iTunes QUESTION
I was wondering about getting an Ipod to use for working out and such and was wondering are the songs on iTunes only for the iPod or can you also use them on MP3 players? The reason is I won't be buying an iPod for a couple of months and still got an MP3 player now and would like to download some music for it. I know I could download music for MP3 players but it would be great if I didn't have pay and download again in afew months just to get songs I already have formatted for iPod's.

songs you buy off itunes i think are coded especially for an ipod (but there are still workarounds). just regular mp3s can be loaded onto any mp3 player, i believe...

You can't use them directly with non-iPod players, but if I'm not mistaken, you can burn them to an audio CD for use in a car, and then re-import them into iTunes as mp3's, and then those mp3's are usable with other players. Pain in the ass, but it should work. |

The Ipod can play mp3 files and files purchased from the Itunes music store (possibly also .ogg and .wav files). Every other music store sells encrypted .wma files which are not compatible with the Ipod. So in closing, you can either have mp3's, or you have to get your songs from the Itunes music store to play them on an Ipod. And any song you get from the Itunes music store cannot be played on any non-Ipod player.
Are there ways around this? Yes. I'd post them, but since they're technically against the law (you break the DRM). The one obvious, AFAIK non illegal way to get itunes songs on another mp3 player is to burn the songs to a CD as an audio CD, then just rip the songs off as mp3s. |

I'll go ahead and tell you to search for a program called jhymn, that will take away the DRM on Itunes songs. It may technically be illegal, but you paid for the song, and its not like you're selling it or putting it on Kazaa. That will do the conversions for you.

I buy my music off of allofmp3.com, I save it to the hard drive, then just copy it into my iTunes by drag and drop. I also can burn cd's off the same files on the hard drive and play them on my car cd player.
