Ping: TroyF and CamEdwards
Since it's football season, I've done quite a bit of Sooner discussion lately, but I figured I'd ping you two on something that you'll probably find pretty interesting.
First, I should say that I'm a bit of an anomaly in that I was raised an OU fan but went to Oklahoma State. Since I was at OSU during the frenzy of the '95 Final Four run, I became quite a fan of Sutton and am now a rabid OSU basketball fan. So, I split: OU in football/OSU in basketball. Now, on to my point: I read this morning in the paper that OSU has added Byron Eaton to their commitment list in basketball. From Dallas, Eaton is a five star point guard according to Rivals.com. Now, with Eaton, OSU has commitments from Gerald Green (the number one player in the country according to rivals), Terrel Harris (4 star guard), Roderick Flemings (4 star forward), and the transfer of that stud from NC. It is sure to be one of the best recruiting classes in the country. Of course, the Final Four appearance had a lot to do with this, but I think the announcement of Sean Sutton as Eddie's successor had just as much of an impact. I think it was absolutey huge for recruits. With all that Sutton has done in the past with lesser knowns, how good can this team be in the near future? I think we're in for a real treat in the coming years boys. Last edited by Cuckoo : 09-20-2004 at 11:05 AM. |

Speaking of OSU hoops, what do you think about Tremaine Fuqua? After his booting for the Cowboys after his bar incident he has transfered to UTEP. He's been working out with the team, and folks who have watched them play say that Fuqua's got a great body but he looks lazy. Was that his rep in Stillwater?
Just curious...

Yeah, that was exactly his rep. They were really hopeful about him because had such good talent and athleticism for a pretty big guy, but even Sutton couldn't get him to care enough from what I hear. I didn't hear much about the bar thing, but Sutton's usually pretty good about getting guys to behave. He didn't waste much time on Fuqua, though, which leads me to believe that his unwillingness to work hard was a big issue. If he puts forth the effort, though, there's no reason to believe he can't be a very good player. |

Sky is the limit for OSU hoops as of now. They have a chance to be pretty special. Still. . . I'll wait until I see how the team gels and how good these players really are before I make a judgement on the team.
Sutton can be brutal on younger players at times. It's why he's been so successful with the JUCO's. We had a recruiting class that was the bomb a few years ago. Four guys who were all supposed to be solid players. 2 transfers and an injury later that group turned into Desmond Mason. (great player, but it wasn't the class we thought we were going to have) |

Thanks, Cuckoo. Hopefully Doc can light a fire under him once regular practices start...
