FOFC WoW Group?
I'm really thinking about picking up Worlds of Warcraft when it comes out. It looks pretty good and it's a Blizzard game. It's been years since I last played a MMORPG (UO). I'd like to find a standard group to adventure with.
Who else is going to pick it up? What kind of info do we need to coordinate (like what server)? |

i plan on picking it up Blacky. i imagine the City Of Heroes FOFC boys have no problem with coordination of group outings. i'm fine with whatever server we choose, although i'd prefer if we could get on a roleplaying dedicated server if at all possible.

I'm in CoH and considering WoW. I generally do not like talking like I am at a renaissance faire, but when I do buy this game I'll go where the board goes.
BTW: CoH is a blast because of playing with board members. The vehicle right now is CoH (And I do think this game is a great execution) but the reason why I play it, is to play with the board members. Should have success in creating a FOF WoW group. |

HA, I think WoWing with King Jackoff77 would be an adventure to say the least. Gi, I don't know you very well, but you're more than welcome to join if we can get this off the ground.
I have usually disliked MMORPGs because I haven't joined one upon release and have usually done so later and solo. It's awfully hard to make inroads like that. Perhaps Sabotai can join us and be our guide. I suppose we need to decide on a few things in the next couple of weeks. 1. Which server to join? 2. PvP or non PvP? My preference is to not go PvP - UO just ruined that aspect of MMORPGs for me. |

i use the name "Dean Houston" on all my MMORPG's. i'm open to non-PvP. i played with some FOFCers on Avlis (Neverwinter Nights server) and the lack of PvP was not ever an issue.

I might be interested. I'm about as big a Blizzard fan as you'll see here, but Im just not sure if I want to pay the monthly fee yet. This would be my first MMORPG.

I'd go with forming a group. Not sure about being a "guide". After a couple of hours, you all will have as much experience as I do.
I prefer an RP server (if they specify). You don't have to talk like a renaissance faire, just don't say things like "This mob spawn on top of me, but I pwned those dudez." Instead, just say something like "This grell came out of nowhere, but it was no problem for me." I prefer PvP, but it doesn't really matter to me. |

I'd be down with PvP, although some of you I'd prefer to kill rather than group with.
When is the release coming out? Last edited by Desnudo : 11-16-2004 at 12:47 PM. |

exactly. Avlis was a little hardcore, but i'm looking for more than what SW:G had to offer. no roleplaying at all there, just people running around trying to get to the next level or aquire that next skill. i just like people being in-character and having a little backstory, that's all. i always have some type of "history" for when i bump into more hardcore role players than i who wish to know more about Dean Houston. just a little background, what he's seeking to do in that universe, that sort of thing. it's kinda corny to run into someone and they're like "let's go kill some monsters - i need [x amount] XP to reach level 8 Fighter." Yeah, that pretty much ruins it for me. I played EVE: Online for a long time, not because it was a great game. In fact, it was boring as hell traveling betrween stations. It took a long time. But I joined up with a corperation, and everyone there roleplayed their character. So during the downtime of flying around, we'd be talking back and forth in character. Was alot of fun. I only stopped playing because the corperation slowly died.
Desnudo, I think the release date is Nov 23rd. Blackie, it doesn't matter to me who picks the server, so go right ahead if everyone else is fine with it. |

Sabotai, I don't know enough about the game to pick a server. I haven't been involved in the Beta.

I don't know the differences between the servers either. I only played at a friends house for a few hours.

considering the following i found when i googled "role playing server for WoW", i don't think we have to worry about it so much:
"To: Blizzard To Whom it may concern at Blizzard: We, the role-playing community and prospective players of your game, World of Warcraft (WoW), wish you to reconsider your stated intent of not having an officially designated Role-Playing server at the launch of your game. Having a designated Role-Play environment will allow those players who role-play to participate in a role-played, immersive experience while playing and enjoying WoW. The role-playing community in existing online games, as well as new role-players to the market, is more than sufficient in size to necessitate an environment of this type. There do not need to be overly restrictive rules for this server, as the majority of Role-Players are simply looking for an environment with a minimum of a naming rule set and rules about talk in public channels. Previous games have had role-playing servers that were very successful. Some have taken on creating a role-playing server in different ways and some have been more successful than others. How Blizzard would want to do the role-playing servers and which types of rule sets they would have with the role-playing servers is something that could be determined at a future time. At this point in time with this petition we are simply attempting to show Blizzard the high demand that there is for a role-playing server within the prospective community of players. We, the role-playing community, are requesting that you make available a role-playing specific environment for your future customers so they may continue to enjoy a role-played, immersive experience in their online gaming. Sincerely, The Undersigned" |

I have not played much EQ2 yet but I am not overly impressed with it so far. If I am not drawn in by the time WoW begins I might be playing that instead. Non-PVP would be my preference.

I start a week of leave next Monday and my wife and son will both be out of town, so bright and early Tuesday I'm heading to EB to pick WoW up. I'll be on a PvP server, though. I just can't get into PvE for very long so I like to have the option of doing both.

I know what PvP and PvE servers are, but are the PvP severs in WoW totally PvP (i.e., the UO free-for-all of the early days)? Is there a way to elect NOT to go PvP but still be on a PvP server?

i'd like to know that too. i would welcome the option for PvP if the need arose (roleplaying-wise), but don't want to turn WoW into Halo2.

My understanding is that in the zones that are designed for lvl 20 and below you will need to turn on a PvP flag in order to be attacked or attack someone else. However, zones designed for lvls 20+ are fought for and you don't have much of a choice in whether or not to PvP in those particular zones. I plan on having a character on a PvP server and a secondary on whichever server the majority of FOFC ends up on.

For what it's worth, I pre-ordered my copy today. Should be in on Wednesday. Between now and then, I'll try to do some research and pick a starting server.

I called EB today and they said I won't have any trouble walking in and picking up a copy Tuesday morning. I'm picking it up at 10 and should be all set to go by 11 or 12.

I played in beta.. the thing you all need to decide is whether or not you wanna be horde or alliance.. cause you cannot cross group.. or even communicate with the other side..

I strongly suggest being part of the horde. It seems more mature players pick the bad guys for some reason ....and if you chose alliance you will never know the pleasure of killing a gnome....

Dola...night elves are part of the Alliance.
Here's my preferences thus far: PvE server (strong preference) - eventually, PvE servers will have a PvP area. Until I learn the game, I have horrid nightmares of PvP in Ultima Online and don't want to go back there again. Alliance - I'd like to be a Night Elf (what would you expect with a name like Blackadar?) and therefore Alliance, but this isn't necessary. I could be a troll...it goes with my nature on the message boards from time to time. |

It doesn't really matter to me, Alliance or Horde. I plan on creating and playing a couple of different characters, so one I'll devote to FOFC group.

my preference (more of an opinion, i'll go with what the group wants) is PvE as well and with Alliance. i like playing the hero type, role playing-wise i don't make a good villain.
my MMORPG characters usually are the type to just solo, wander in one direction and to see what people groups i can encounter. on countless occassions i would bump into people taking on a mob, sometimes overmatched, and i'd lend my bow. usually after that we'd all group together. good times. i almost always play as an elf. not sure what the distinction in WoW is between a traditional elf and a WoWish Night Elf. |

If you guys give it positive reviews, you may have another member on board...CoH is my fare for now and it's fun because of knowing your teammates.

A final pre-release preview from Gamespot. Too long to post, sorry.
hxxp://www.gamespot.com/pc/rpg/worldofwarcraft/preview_6113764.html?q=1&tag=gs_hp_flashtop_story EDIT: The screenshots look great. A little cartoony, but it looks like they did a nice job giving players different environments to play in.

I did the beta-testing for the game and am a part of a Warcraft clan if you care to know...id be up for stuff as well, though my clan is already pretty into it and want me to go with them. All Beta players have to give up their chars, so its even from day one

I made it!!!!
FYI, if you get this error: Quote:
I got around it by opening the disk that gave me a problem (disk 2) manually (right click and open). Seems to be a problem with auto-play for that disk. After that, smooth sailing, although installing 3.1GB takes quite a while. Now off to set up my account.
