POST GAME COMMENTS

It was nice to see Hall and Colston hook up a few times. That's promising.

I'm starting to think that RB Preston Dunn's (41/44) role needs to be tweaked, but I'm not sure how, I may just wait a couple of games and see if he gets back on track. I actually tried to get him the ball more by bumping up the possabilities of throwing a screen and also tried to get the FB Rubini more involved in the running game, but neither materialized in this matchup.

Probably the most interesting note in this game was the stats line on WLB Jose Richard (46/46). As the WLB, his role on the field is already limited (to roughly 45-50 plays). But he was busy. Either getting a helmet in on a tackle (13) or geting burned by a receiver (5).

I guess the scout has it just about right for this guy.

WLB Jose Richard

One other note: SS Lamont Law (63/63) hurt his foot and will miss a week or two. Nothing serious, but unless I want to bring in a weak roster filler for him, I will probably activate LCB Joe "Speedy" Graham (79/79) since he has been upgraded to PROBABLE.

NEW YORK GIANTS @ TAMPA BAY RECAP

Tampa, FL - The Bucs (1-2) dropped their second straight game at home, a 17-7 slugfest lost to QB Matt Leinart and the Giants (3-0). Once again, the Bucs offense teased the home crowd with a first half lead, and once again they blew it in the second half.

With a gameplan geared much more noticably to the pass than last season, the effects of not having a true work horse power back like Lewis Burnett (58/58) is noticeable. Scatback RB Preston Dunn (42/44) played better this week (13 for 63) but it was obvious that the Giants were keying in on the passing game of QB Allen Hall (80/80) who threw 45 times for a scant 200 yards, 1 touchdown, and one pick.

Piling on to the loss, the Bucs faces a huge scare early in the first quarter when superstar LDE Barry Sanders (62/81) stayed down long after a play had ended. Reports are he has a broken clavicle and will be sidelines a month, so it's better than it seemed at the time, but never the less, bad news for the Bucs.

The Bucs get a chance at getting back on track next week against division rival Atlanta (2-1) in Tampa.

POST GAME COMMENTS

Well, that sucked.

I tried to tweak our gameplan to provide for shorter passes on 1st and 2nd down and we did complete them (16 of 19 for 97 yards) but I was hoping that by throwing deep less, that it would help open things up downfield when we did. But not really. In passes over 9 yards, QB Allen Hall (80/80) went 7 of 21 for 106 yards. The Bucs only completed 1 of 5 screen passes that were attempted. We were looking forward to getting RB Preston Dunn (42/44) into the open field that way but to no avail.

I'm just going to have to back away from the pass happiness and try and force Dunn to give up some better looks on 3rd down. We need him to run the ball, and I'll try and get him 25 or 30 carries and see what happens.

Here's a spotlight on RB Preston Dunn.

Also, LDE Barry Sanders (62/81) being out for 4 weeks will hurt but a former 2.1 draft pick LDE Bruce Winslett (32/52) will take his place, one of the few areas where have some quality depth.

*****DYNASTY CANCELLED*****
Once again I failed to save my work, lots of work down the drain. So I'll have to pass on writing in detail. I am continuing on with this SP universe, and will at least pass on the outcome.

Quietly updating this to tie up loose ends...

The Bucs finished the season with Preston Dunn running the ball deep into the playoffs. RB Lewis Burnett fully recovered from his surgery just in time for the playoffs. He played sparingly in the 2RB slot during the Wild Card matchup and accumulated a 5 YPC average on 10 tries, while Preston Dunn continued to hover around the 3-3.5 YPC range. The Bucs won the game and moved to the divisional round. This lackluster performance from Dunn and short but sweet look at RB Burnett convinced me to put the star RB back into the starting role, but then he became the victim and suffered at the hands of the San Francisco 49'ers and managed 65 yards on 17 carries. Perhaps the rust was too much for him to shake off...not sure.

Anyway, we lost to the 49'ers and they lost to the New York Giants, who then lost to the Pittsburgh Steelers 35-30, as they repeated as NFL Champions.

A quick look back.
