A Journey Through College Hoops

I'm having a blast with my NBA2K9 dynasty, so I thought I'd try out a college ball dynasty.

I started a career legacy, and will start out with Saint Francis University. The Red Flash are in the NEC (Northeast Conference) and have a fairly good offense but a weak defense.

All games will be simulated, I won't use any of the drills or training, and recruiting rules are subject to change as I learn more about how it works. As of now, I'm free to move to any school that will take me, but this is subject to change. I never really got far in these dynasties so I'm not sure how well they work, so I may need some house rules.

And with that, let's take a look at the 2007-2008 St. Francis roster.

2007 Opening Day Roster

I have a long journey ahead of me, but the first step is evaluating our current players to see who gives us the best chance to win. Here is what our roster looks like.

STARTERS

PG: JR(RS) Cale Nelson. 5'10", 180 lbs (66 ovr)

Nelson was a walkon, but has established himself as the starting PG. He's a pretty good passer and a decent shooter, but his defense leaves a lot to be desired.

SG: JR Marques Ford. 5'10", 175 lbs (65 ovr)

Ford was recruited as a PG, but his three point shooting landed him a job at SG. He tends to drive toward the basket and is a pretty good shooter from short range as well. His defense needs work.

SF: SO(RS) Devin Sweetney. 6'6", 180 lbs. (67 ovr)

Probably our best player, Sweeney has a good medium range shot, good rebounding skills, and great touch on free throws. He won't take many three pointers.

PF: SO Mislay Jukic. 6'7", 220 lbs (56 ovr)

Jukic is here from England, but he really isn't a good basketball player. His rebounding is his strength, if I had to pick one, and his weakness is his basketball IQ.

C : JR(RS) Bass Ding. 6'9", 215 lbs (58 ovr)

Ding is better on defense than offense, but his strength on offense is long range shots, believe it or not. He needs to work on rebounding.

G: JR Grant Surprenant. 6'5", 180 lbs. (58 ovr)
G: SO Chris McFarland. 6'0", 180 lbs. (57 ovr)

Recruiting

We only have one scholarship available. We actually have no graduating seniors, but we desperately need a big man. We are loaded with guards, but even our starters at PF and C are just terrible.

I'll give a more detailed upgrade of our targets as we get some more time with them.

We've spent a ton of time talking to Jose Long, a 6'10" center from Baltimore. He has us listed as his current top school. We're going to spend a few more weeks talking to him and then we'll offer him a scholarship to join St. Francis next season.
