Thank you to other users on this forum (particularly Beargrowlz and Sabotai) their for ideas, and the replies to my game immersion post as inspiration for this dynasty.

I hope to stick with this dynasty for a while. I have a couple of young kids and I am busy with work, but I hope to update the dynasty regularly. Wish me luck!

Quick and dirty background on this dynasty:

In 2004, some Canadian guy came up with the idea that would finally be accepted by the NCAA for a football playoff format. In return, the NCAA granted Ontario Universities Athletics, Ontario’s athletic conference, permission to participate in the D-I program as a pilot project.

Since Canadian universities can’t grant athletic scholarships, the recruits would continue to come from the US, whom would be allowed to receive scholarships purely based on donations (this is why I put the recruit restrictions as above). However, strict regulations were put into place for any student-athlete playing north of the border. Recruits must have an SAT score of at least 1100, with a GPA of at least 2.75, to be consistent with admissions for regular students.

Now everyone is asking: Can Canadian universities compete at the D-I level, especially with these strict regulations? One positive is, due to the playoff format, at least one Canadian university will make the post season dance each year. The biggest question is: Can a Canadian team challenge for title of National Champion – of the United States? Will it be the York Yeomen? Let’s find out.

So it's my first day on the job. Today I'm going to take care of some administrative duties. We're ranked 121 out of 125 in the preseason polls. Here's a look at our schedule for this year:

Code:
The College Years 2004 York Schedule Rival: Windsor Stadium Capacity: 27,500 Season Tickets Sold: 9,300 Week Opponent Result Attendance Weather Television 2 HAWAII 3 at Northern Illinois 4 at Wake Forest $$6 at Toronto $$7 LAURIER $$8 QUEEN'S 9 at (18) Virginia Tech $$10 at Western $$11 MCMASTER $$12 at Ottawa $$13 WINDSOR Home Games in ALL CAPS $$-Conference Games, ##-League Championship Games, **-Post-Season Games

We start the season against teams that will probably beat us, but I hope they won't be a blow outs. Week 6 is the annual Red-Blue Bowl versus cross-town rivals UofT Varsity Blues. A great way to open our conference schedule. I must admit I'm not looking forward to our Week 9 game at 18th ranked Virginia Tech.

I had some meetings today with the staff.

I met with the DC Rich Grant this morning. What a very good guy. Being 67 years old, he’s pretty old school and is fairly conservative with his play calling. With this mind set, he’s tough on the guys in the off-season and is good at keeping guys on the field. Only thing is, when guys do get hurt, he’s the type of guy to say, “Rub some dirt on it, and get back in there!”, so his ability to deal with injuries is lousy. As far as developing players, the old school in him keeps him focus on the fundamentals. He’s excellent with both the D-line and the secondary, but his weakness is with the poor linebackers. In all, I really like Rich. I’ll probably let him stick around as long as he wants to.

Our SC, Lamont Shore took me out for lunch to welcome me to campus. I gotta say he’s not really my kind of guy. He’s good taking care of investigations, which doesn’t really help us out because I plan to keep this program on the straight and narrow. I don’t have much of a choice anyway with our conference’s regulations. To land a number of solid recruits, we’re going to need someone who’s better than fair at getting donations, and with our academic requirements, I’m fairly certain he’s no help there either. I think we’ll be looking for someone else next year.

My afternoon was spent with Frank Wilson, or OC. He runs the I-Formation, which I like (I also like the power I with a good backfield), and for the most part, he’s decent at developing the quarterbacks and running backs, good with the receivers, and he’s excellent with kickers. Frank’s terrible with the O-line, which is disappointing to me. Further, if we’re going to land good recruits up here in Canada, we’re going to need a more likeable guy. He’s got poor social skills and I wasn’t impressed with his poor ideas in terms of offensive creativity. I think I’ll be looking to go in a different direction next year.

Tomorrow I meet with our regional scouts, and will finish up the week working out practice schedules and other details.

Here are this year's pre-season conference rankings:

Code:
The College Years Overall Rankings School Record Conf Rank McMaster 0-0 OUA 100 Toronto 0-0 OUA 106 Western 0-0 OUA 119 **York 0-0 OUA 121 Laurier 0-0 OUA 122 Ottawa 0-0 OUA 123 Windsor 0-0 OUA 124 Queen's 0-0 OUA 125

My goal this season is to finish with a conference record better than .500. I would love for one of those wins to come against U of T. If we can keep close in the non-conference games, that would be a bonus.

Sorry about those Golden Gaels, Bear.

I met with the two scouts we will be using today. I first met with Donnie Collier, our New England Region and Lead Scout. If I’m going to build the type of team I want, we’re going to have to get rid of him as soon as we can. He’s very good with receivers, and decent and good with the O-Line and kickers respectively. After that he’s only fair with quarterbacks, linebackers, and the secondary. He’s lousy with the running backs and D-Line. One and done with Donnie, for sure.

The other scout we’ll be using is our Great Lakes region guy, Brandon Hampton. He’s a lot more in line with the plan I have for this program. He is excellent with both the running backs and linebackers, and is terrific with receivers. He’s very good with the O-Line and good with the kickers. His weaknesses are with quarterbacks, the D-Line and the secondary.

It looks like I’ll have my work cut out for me for the first couple of years, making changes to the program to get it heading in the direction I would like to take it.

Ultimately, the type of program I'd like to build would revolve around a strong running game using a power-I or straight I-formation. Once we get some depth in the backfield I'd like to make the shift to the power-I and run mostly right up the gut. Our O-line needs to be strong in run blocking, and will be a focus in our recruiting. I'd like a QB with a stong arm and receivers with big play capabilities, as I plan to keep the D honest by throwing downfield a few times a game too.

I'd like our defense to be the cornerstone of our team with linemen that can pass rush, backers with stong run defense, and safeties with strong zone and corners that man up well. I'll play a lot of 2 deep zone, and keep blitzing to a minimum. When I do blitz, I'll bring the house.

This season we'll stick with the I-form on offense and I will mostly coach to the players. On defense I'll run a 4-3, and keep things pretty basic. As we grow, we'll move toward our goal, and implement the above strategies.

Time to get ready for camp and see who will make plays for us this year.

So we've run the boys through camp and here's what we're looking at to open the 2004 season:

Code:
Hopkins, Mitch 5 QB Sr* 26 26 Rypien, Lionel 13 QB So 21 42 Tanner, Hugh 1 QB Sr 16 16 Woodard, Rondell 19 QB Jr* 10 15
We're going to go with Hopkins this year and redshirt Rypien. Hopefully Rypien develop OK and bide us some time next season and a couple after that while we find a QB that suits us best.

Code:
Pamer, Sammy 41 RB Sr 43 63 Mueller, Irving 24 RB Jr 26 31 Lyons, Aaron 25 RB So 23 36 Harrelson, Clifton 39 RB So 16 32 Sweeney, K.C. 28 RB Fr 14 19 Martinez, Don 35 RB* Fr 11 25 Warnsing, Duane 34 FB Sr 25 40 Carpenter, Tyrell 37 FB Fr 16 34 Reed, Rodney 31 FB Fr 10 18
We'll be depending a lot on Pamer this year to shoulder the load. He's our offensive star, and I'm going to use him as much as I can. Lyons will slide in when Pamer needs a rest, and Sweeney will fill in on long 3rd downs. Both Harrelson and Lyons have more potential than the scouts think. Warnsing will be making holes for these guys and will make a few carries himself. If we're going to have any success on the offensive side of the ball, it will be because of this group.

Code:
Doyle, Howie 85 TE Sr* 29 47 Hay, Maurice 97 TE Jr* 25 30 Newton, Chris 83 TE So* 18 18 Martin, Marlon 91 TE So 14 14 Smedley, Sean 81 WR Sr* 25 25 Metzger, Orlando 89 WR Sr 23 25 Frye, Tyrell 6 WR Sr 20 20 Franz, Bobby 80 WR* Sr 16 32 Huffman, Sam 9 WR* Fr 10 10 Weigle, Melvin 87 WR* Fr 8 20 Meadows, Jimmie 82 WR* Fr 7 20
We're going with Doyle at TE to open the season, but I wouldn't be surprised if we get Newton in there by mid-season. We have adequate receivers in Metzger and Frye, but not much depth after that. WR will be a recruiting focus this year.

Code:
Schwartz, J.B. 53 C Jr 45 45 Orazi, Leland 56 C Fr 16 19 Van Pelt, Albert 65 G Fr 9 57 Rayburn, Kenyon 64 G* So 11 38 Giordano, Curtis 66 G* Jr* 8 37 Reitz, Louie 75 G* Fr 7 40 Kelly, William 77 T Sr* 26 26 Fulton, Graham 69 T Jr* 18 21 Craig, Harry 61 T Fr 12 37 Adkins, Austin 73 T Fr 5 28
C Schwatz is our anchor here and we'll run it behind him a ton. Our guards are in a word, awful. This will be our biggest need in recruiting this year. Hope there's some good high school seniors out there this year. I flipped a coin and decided Van Pelt and Rayburn would start. Kelly will play LT and Fulton over on the right. T will be another position we'll address with recruiting.

Code:
Shields, Gino 2 P Jr 33 33 Shapiro, Britt 14 P So 28 28 Whalen, Ricky 16 K Jr 25 40 Fisk, Norman 8 K Sr 21 21
Shields and Whalen will play, I will redshirt the other two.

And on the defensive side of the ball:

Code:
Alexander, Tommy 98 DE Sr 28 28 Fong, Frank 71 DE Sr* 25 39 Whalen, Rickey 78 DE So 21 21 Dietz, Henry 93 DE Sr* 19 30 Pagnotti, Sherman 76 DE Jr 18 18 Ciaccio, Bernie 70 DT Sr* 30 46 Racz, Gus 72 DT Sr* 16 37 Cooley, Clyde 74 DT Sr 13 13 Hill, Richard 95 DT Jr* 9 19
We have a pretty good group here. Alexander starts at RDE and Pagnotti at LDE. In the middle will be Ciaccio at LDT and Cooley at RDT.

Code:
Finley, Darnell 99 ILB So 32 34 Pichardo, Bryce 48 ILB Fr 11 11 Hernandez, John 58 ILB Fr 9 31 Gulley, Ricky 59 ILB* Fr 7 32 Webster, Jimmy 57 OLB Sr* 19 23 Bernstein, Shawn 40 OLB Sr 17 34 Howe, A.J. 50 OLB Fr 12 37 Carmichael, Jay 92 OLB* Fr 14 15 Fleming, Seth 94 OLB* Jr* 7 7 Shellenberger, Frankie 43 OLB* So* 2 2
Finley will be the defensive captain at MLB. Webster is our SAM linebacker and Bernstein will line up on the weak side.

Code:
Cochrane, Carl 47 CB Sr 16 27 Connor, Neil 22 CB Jr 16 16 Page, Bob 27 CB Sr 13 33 Mayes, Kenneth 46 CB So* 9 24 Harrison, Britt 20 CB* Fr 4 5 Logan, Robbie 30 S Sr 44 44 Wright, Isaac 49 S Jr 17 48 Schuneman, Oscar 29 S So 8 8 Georgopulos, Cedric 38 S* Fr 11 34
I tossed and turned on whether to start Logan at free or strong safety. I wanted to start him at free to try and make some plays, but I ended up putting him at SS. Schuneman will play free. He's good in zone and can make a play on the ball too. Logan can stuff the run really well, so I think this will work best for us. Page is a man specialist and will be our top CB. On the other side will be Cochrane.

After evaluating our players, I think we might challenge for the conference. My goal still remains that we finish above .500 in our conference. We certainly have our weaknesses, but barring any injuries, we have some solid starters. Injuries will decimate us because we just don't have any depth.

Our recruiting focus will be the G, T, WR, OLB, S and CB. Being a running team, we will always be on the lookout for blue chip RBs as well. Season's up next, I'm pumped.

The first three recruits I contacted said they didn't like my OC. No surprise there, I knew this would be problem.

I'd really like to land Mayes or Castroll, but we'll see. This is a good start and I'll continue to pursue these guys. We really need a couple of good guards. I'm planning on using my one black recruit on a guard.

I saved this info in the wrong view. I want to use the stats worksheet to keep track of recruits. I decided to go after Gene Monroe, a National Top 10 QB. I'm not going to spend too much time on him, but thought I'd buy a lottery ticket. Went after a few other guys that were decent fits with our team, that also had strengths that worked with what I'm trying to do with the team.

Well, I was hoping for at least a little more offense. Hawaii stuffed our run game, and our 3rd downs were awful. Pamer did nothing and Hopkins threw three picks. Two of those in the fourth quarter were pick sixes. need to work on our ball control.

On defense, SO Darnell Finley was outstanding, the only bright spot in this game. We'll be counting on him this year. Time to go back to the drawing board.

I may let the coordinators game plan this week and see what happens. Then we'll have one more game to tweak things and come up with some middle ground before conference play starts up.

A few thoughts:

I may change the state restriction for recruiting. I figure I have a budget for a reason, and if I want to pursue a recruit from further away, it means I need to be careful about it. I would keep the colour restriction in place based on my SC. This will not change until next year.

I may change the presentation of my weekly posts from time to time. I want to keep this readable for everyone, but I also want to make it as easy as possible for me.

I was debating about just playing out the season and giving a seasonal report, but to keep myself into the game I think the weekly idea is better. Any thoughts here would be appreciated.

Thanks for the comments so far, I hope people are enjoying it.

My advice would be to stay with the week by week basis. You'll stay more immersed and get a better feel for your team IMO.

We've got a few recruits visiting this week. The biggest name is Gene Monroe, the top ranked QB in the country. I've gone after 4 top recruits and offered three of them scholarships at this point. Remember I can only take one of them.

I'm trying to recruit at least one player from each position, and plan to create some depth from here on. I can still go after one more Tier 2 recruit even if all of the ones I've targeted so far sign with us.

Alexander is a big loss, I'm going to keep him out at least for 1 week and let him heal. I'm going to keep Fisk in for this one and see how he does.

We played a lot better than we did last week, but we still have a long way to go. Again our bright spot was on defense. S Robbie Logan had great individual game and we made 4 sacks. However as a team we need to get our D of the field. NILL earned 26 first downs.

Our offense controlled the ball better this game, only allowing 2 turnovers. Pamer still has not had a breakout game and continues to get stuffed. Maybe we need to shift to Lyons as our starter soon. Opposing defenses are keying on him, as there's not much else to worry about with us. Our offensive line really needs work.

I think I'll continue to let the coordinators gameplan, while I keep control of the depth chart. If anything, I might adjust so that Pamer gets the ball more, perhaps as a reciever out of the backfield, and see what happens.

We got decimated in injuries this week. What was a strength of our team, our D-Line, has been reduced to nothing. We have no depth at any position, so this will be a hard few weeks, especially with conference play starting up. Luckily, we have a week off to recuperate some of these injuries. Alexander should be ready go next week, which helps our cause a little.

Again we gave up 28 first downs. Unacceptable. Finley again had a good game on defense. We'll need him to pick it up even more in the next few weeks with those injuries at the D-line. I think if our defense could at least keep a few points off the board in the early going, we might have a fighting chance. It's tough going into the second half with the game already almost out of hand.

Like I said last week, Lyons may be our guy. His yards per carry was an outstanding 7.5, and he scored our lone TD. He's moving up on the depth chart this week. On offense, we gave up 3 turnovers. We need to start keeping the ball. We're not playing well enough to make those kind of mistakes.

Conference play next week. At least we'll be playing an opponent more our calibre. In addition, it's our annual Red-Blue Bowl game against cross-town rivals, the U of T Varsity Blues. Our boys should be pumped!

Lots of visitors this week. I hope we can put on a good show against U of T next week to show these recruits we have potential as a program.
No new recruits this week, I spent most of my time following up with our top guys, those that have yet to visit, and guys sitting on the fence. Not much else.

Week 6

I made a few new recruiting contacts this week, but nothing significant. Still no commitments yet, I'm looking forward to getting one under the belt. I really hope we put on a good show against the Varsity Blues despite being 18 point underdogs. We have the top ranked QB in the country here, Gene Monroe. We also have two second tier RBs here this weekend in Ray Borders and Sean Knobbs. On top of that we have 6 other recruits here this weekend.

#123 York (0-3) at #92 Toronto (1-2) (-18)

York 28, Toronto 25. We held of a 4th quarter comeback by the Blues to hang on and win 28-25. Our ground game finally got going, as Lyons and Pamer combined for 156 yards. Our QB Hopkins completed 23 of 29 passes for 217 yards and 2 TDs. Freshman RB K.C. Sweeney had 2 TDs, one on the ground and one receiving TD. We had 408 yards total offense, with no turnovers. We ran the ball 51 times, which really let Hopkins do his thing, and the O-line only allowed 1 sack.

On defense, we limited Toronto to 12 first downs, a stat I was getting worried about. Getting the lead quick helped, because it put them into passing situations and we took advantage of that. Keeping their offense off the field meant that were no standouts on defense, and no big stats to report, but the unit really clicked together and quietly did their job.

We lost sophomore DE Rickey Whalen for the season with a torn triceps.

Week 7

Our great showing at U of T last week must have impressed Gene Monroe as he signed his letter of intent this week. We couldn't be more excited to land the top QB in the country. Not too shabby for a little school like us. Hopefully, others will want to follow suit. Unfortunately, donations only allow us to sign one top tier recruit, and we'll have to rescind a few scholarship offers. One of them includes the second ranked RB in the nation, Lincoln Spector. No relation to Phil. He also had plans to visit us this week. I know it's not the fair thing to do, but we may wait out a few more weeks and decide which one to take then, if more than one signs. This, especially considering we are trying to build our program around the run game.

Not much else to report on the recruiting front. Sought out some acadguys with high academics, and went to watch a couple of games, that's about it. I'm hoping next week some more guys will commit, and we'll be able to see where we are a little better.

We get OT William Kelly back to full strength this week, as well as DE Tommy Alexander.

#98 Laurier (2-3) (-5) at #109 York (1-3)

Laurier 34, York 10. We were down 24-0 by half time, again forcing us to pass, not our game. We need to get ahead early and pound it. We committed 4 turnovers, and gave excellent field position to the Golden Hawks all day. Their average starting field position was their own 44. Our best rusher was freshman KC Sweeney with a huge 26 yards and Mitch Hopkins completed 9 of 32 passes. I'm debating changing things up and giving senior Hugh Tanner a chance under centre. Aaron Lyons dropped a couple of key passes as well.

After last week's win, this is a disappointing loss.

DE Tommy Alexander is probable again with a sprained ankle (2 wks). Nothing else significant to report as far as injuries are concerned.

I think I like the format I've used the last couple of reports better than the cut paste style. Any comments at this point are welcome. Hope people are enjoying this so far.

Week 8

We have 9 recruits visiting campus this week, including top tier RB, Lincoln Spector, and guards Bryan Mayes and Joel Castroll. RBs Ray Borders and Sean Knobbs are here, too. Made a few new contacts, including a kicker, but nothing else noteworthy. I hope we get a good turnout to show these recruits the potential in our program.

#120 Queen's (1-4) at #112 York (1-4) (-5)

York 52, Queen's 13. We dominated this one. I think it could have been more except for our plethora of offensive penalties, especially our false starts. All aspects played well, even our special teams. RB Sammy Pamer was game MVP with 125 yards on only 14 carries and 2 TDs. QB Mitch Hopkins played well managing the ball and leading us to two TD scores. The defense again played as a unit with no one in particular standing out. One exception would be the 54 yards interception return made by sophomore CB Kenneth Mayes.

DE Sherman Pagnotti is doubtful for 3 weeks with an abdominal strain. DE Tommy Alexander and WR Sean Smedley remain probable.

Both Spector and Mayes gave their commitments to York this week. This means at this point, the 6th, 9th, and 45th ranked players in the country have chosen to play here at York. Pretty impressive to get two top ten recruits. I spent this week making sure I had enough contacts to fill out our roster for departing seniors. No one significant was contacted.

#94 York (2-4) at #16 Virginia Tech (4-1) (-19)

Virginia Tech 37, York 7. False starts are driving me insane. At the half any points Tech had were off of dumb mistakes. Twice we had good drives going, then a false start killed our momentum. We had to punt, giving them good field position and both times they turned their drives into TDs. Their third score was of a fumble recovery. In the second half, we tried to play catch up -- which we are no good at. We were picked off twice in the 3rd quarter, leading to points, and we abandoned the run, something I think we need to stick with even if we are down. All in all, we played OK.

We hung in there for most of the fist half, but mistakes cost us. We can't keep beating ourselves, especially against opponents like Tech.

Our best rusher, Lyons, had 19 yards while Mitch Hopkins went 12 of 24 for 129 yards with 1 TD and two picks. Finley was everywhere on defense with 14 tackles and 4 assists. I will take that with a grain of salt considering the amount of time our D spent on the field. I'm glad we're back to conference play next week, against Western.

We lost starting WLB, Shawn Bernstein for 5 weeks with a sprained back.

NOTE: I am seriously considering changing my limit of colour of recruits. Especially after landing three top prospects. This is my first real attempt at this game, other than making the odd change and simming the whole season.

I've never taken on recruiting and gone methodically week by week. I'm really enjoying this so far, and don't want to get too frustrated with this. Perhaps as I play more and get better I can put the restrictions back in place. I'll keep you posted as to what I decide to do.

Week 10

RB Sean Knobbs, G Marcus Heath, and DT Shannon Fielder all committed this week, bringing our recruit class size up to eight. Not too many contacts this week. I decided to seek out academic players with test scores of over 1500.

#103 York (2-5) (-5) at #106 Western (2-5)

York 27, Western 24. What a game! We took an early lead, that squandered away with some costly turnovers. After Western's first possession in the second half, we were down 24-13. On our next possesion, we marched down the, only to have Ricky Whalen miss a key 23 yard FG, after making a 42 yarder late in the first half. I was concerned because our team does not play catch up well. Our boys made me proud as we staged our first comeback win. Hopkins was accurate enough completing 13 of 18 passes with 1 TD. Lyons led our ground game with 18 carries for 91 yards. Our defense sealed the victory with an interception late in the game, enabling Hopkind to take a knee and let the clock run out.

RB Aaron Lyons is battling a bad case of the flu. He's probable, and hope to be back to full strength in a couple of weeks.

Limited contacts this week and followed up with recruits I've already contacted. We NEED to land a DE, so I pursued the guys on our list once again. Another priority is at S. We received commitments from G Neil Hudspeth, T Donald Woodruff, and ILB Donald "The Big" Grabowski.
Big game on TV this week. Hope our boys put on a good show.

#74 McMaster (4-4) at #93 York (3-5) (-2) TV5

McMaster 32, York 21. We should have won this game. I don't know whether I'm more ticked or disappointed. We had a 21-10 lead going into the second half, and we decided to give them a win. Our O-line killed us with false start penalties -- AGAIN, and our defense couldn't stop the run. McMaster came up with 22 unanswered points in the 4th quarter. we let it slip away. McMaster carries on to 5-0 in conference play, and if we'd have won, we'd be in a 3 way tie for first in the conference. Our one bright spot was RB Aaron Lyons who rushed for 158 yards and 2 TDs. I gotta go and rip the boys for their performance today.

We also lost DE Sherman Pagnotti for the year with a back injury.

OT Reuben Ireland committed this week. Again limited contacts, with the purpose to fill out spots I'm concerned we won't be able to fill, particularly K, P, WR, DE.

#96 York (3-6) at #98 Ottawa (3-5) (-2)

York 38, Ottawa 14. We had an explosion in the 4th quarter with 28 points. 30 first downs overall is a stat I'm extremely happy with, considering we haven't gotten many this year. We always do much better when we run the ball more than we pass. We had a whopping 80 plays from scrimmage, 42 of those were a run. We kept Ottawa from converting any third downs, shutting them down 10 times in that situation. RB Aaron Lyons was again outstanding with 135 yards rushing with 2 TDs, and another 45 yards and TD via the passing game. QB Mitch Hopkins had his first 300 yard passing game hitting that number exactly, and he threw for 2 TDs, but 2 picks as well. Our defence was a rock on third down as mentioned and 11 players had multiple tackles. Overall our run defence was stellar, shutting down the run allowing not even one yard. In addition, our offense generated 538 total yards.

I'm still reeling from that McMaster loss. Had we nailed that one, we'd be in control of the conference championship at this point. Oh well, my dad used to always say, "If your aunt had nuts, she'd be your uncle."

ILB Darnell Finley bruised his shoulder and will be probable for next week.

TE Deon Hanson signed his letter this week. I spent the rest of the week tying up loose ends, making sure everyone had been invited to visit campus, and I followed up again with a few recruits. We have TE Dale Richmond, DE Leroy Watson, and S Frankie Rhoades here this week.

#63 Windsor (6-4) at #90 York (4-6) (-3)

Windsor 38, York 14. I really hoped to end this season with a win, but that's awful hard to do when you turn the ball over 6 times. Mitch Hopkins threw 5 picks without a TD. His accuracy was way off from the get go, first underthrowing receivers, then overcompensating and putting it past them. Aaron Lyons had another solid game, running fur 97 yards and a TD. Our defense was mediocre, but not awful. Finley had an incredible game, fitting, since it was his last one here.

No injuries to report.

No new contacts. DE Leroy Watson, ILB Dusty Jamison, CB Scott Rhodes, and S Frankie Rhoades are here this week. Finally some solid defensive recruits. I'd love to land Watson, but offers from Florida and Pittsburgh have me thinking it's far fetched.

Week 15 - Conference Championship Week

Good news! We landed Watson and CB Scott Rhodes.
McMaster will represent the OUA this year going 7-0 in conference play, and 7-4 overall.

Army beat Navy 41-38, in a nail biter.

Week 16 - First Round

McMaster plays #18 Clemson and are 23 point underdogs. They lose 52-10.

Week 17 - Round of Sixteen

Week 18 - Playoff Quarterfinals

Week 19 - Playoff Semifinals

Of the 4 teams remaining, the top three teams are still in it.

Week 20 - National Championship Game

#7 Tennessee beats #1 Oklahoma 42-30 and Penn State QB Albert Thomas is named the Heisman Winner for 2004.

After a short hiatus, I'm back. I've thought long and hard about how to address the rules I've set out for recruiting. This is the first real dynasty I've played at all, let alone post it. For now I've decided to scrap the colour limitation, but will continue to recruit from the states outlined above. This may also change in the future, especially after picking up an outstanding scout from the SW Region.

This move is purely for my enjoyment of the game, considering I'm still very much a rookie at this. I apologize to anyone following this thread if this change takes away from your enjoyment of following along.

On that note, thanks to those whom have commented thus far. Hope you keep following along.

And now ... on to 2005!

2005 Season Log

Rather than recap the 2004 season in detail, I thought I'd look ahead to 2005. We start as the 109th ranked team. However, I will note this about last season:

DT Bernie Ciaccio and ILB Darnell finley were First Team All-Conference. G Albert Van Pelt and S Robbie Logan made Second Team. WR Sean Smedley, K Norman Fisk, and OLB Jimmy Webster were All-Conference Academic, leading us to the highest GPA in the country at 3.39.

Our recruiting performance was rated at 90.

While I was pleased that we reached our goal of better than .500 in the conference, I can't help but think we could have done more in 2004. I think this year, we should be able to compete for the conference championship, depending on how our defense holds up.

Starters that graduated:
RB Sammy Pamer
FB Duane Warnsing
WR Orlando Metzger
K Norman Fisk
DE Tommy Alexander
CB Carl Cochrane
CB Bob Page
S Robbie Logan

Key Recruits:
QB Gene Monroe
RB Lincoln Spector
RB Sean Knobbs
G Bryan Mayes
G Neil Hudspeth
T Ruben Ireland
DE Leroy Watson
DT Shannon Felder
ILB Donald "The Big" Grabowski

Staffing
Lamont Shore retired, so we hired Artie Harvey as SC. He's another older guy, but he's the best we could find to fit into our situation. It looks like he'll be good with academics and pretty good grabbing us some donations. We don't even bother looking at investigations for our SC hires.

SW Region scout, Sean Gagliardi, also retired, so we picked up 33 year old Vince Tokeshi. This guy is incredible. He's terrific or excellent with all position groups except QB, where he's terrible (this is OK, considering our situation at QB is pretty good for the next few years) and he's good with the receivers.

We decided to let OC Frank Wilson go. We had an opportunity to get a guy we think we can ride for at least a few years in Marvin Lindell. He's 36 years old and has good playcaling skills. He's pretty good with both injury avoidance and rehabilitation, and we think he'll be very good at bringing kids in who want to play with him. His player development skills with the O-Line are terrible which is the only concern I have with him. He's good with QBs and kickers and is terrific and excellent with the RBs and WRs, respectively. With this change we move our offensive set to a power-I.

Recruiting
We had a pretty good recruiting season last year, landing some top prospects. We aren't very deep number wise at WR or QB, which has me concerned. Simply an oversight on my part. This year our focus will have to be on defense, and I'd like to continue to tighten up the O-line. Of course, we'll have to pick up at least a couple of WR, too.

Scheduling
Our Athletic Director has scheduled us with a permanent game against Alabama-Birmingham and has made our game against Northern Illinois permanent as well. I wanted to try to build up a rivalry with a close but out of conference team, and Buffalo accepted a home and away series this year and next. In stage 4, Air Force offered us an away game in week 1. I had to accept, considering it's a military institution, and will support them any way I can. With our conference games, that fills us up for this year.

Miscellaneous
We lowered all ticket prices by $2 in each section. Hopefully that, combined with a half competitive team will bring up our attendance figures from 12,400 last year.

Roster and Depth Chart

OFFENSE
Our biggest battle will be at QB. Mitch Hopkins who was good at times last year is back as a fifth year senior. Redshirt junior, Lionel Rypien (Mark's son) is also ready to get a shot. Then we have blue chip recruit Gene Monroe who will have to be given a serious look. Unfortunately, we only have three QBs on the roster, making the luxury of redshirting Monroe impossible. Another oversight on my part.

Lincoln Spector and Sean Knobbs will both step in as freshmen starters, with Aaron Lyons -- who carried most of the load last year -- a very capable backup.

Our FB situation is poor, but when situation calls for it, sophomore Rodney Reed will be the guy. I will probably have TE Maurice Hay start in the FB spot because of his run blocking.

At TE, Howie Doyle looks to be the starter at this point. Back up TEs Maurice Hay and Dale Richmond will also fit into the depth chart at WR.
As stated, receiver is a big weakness for us, and is a must in recruiting this year. Our starters for now will be senior Sean Smedley followed by sophomore Sam Huffman.

Our O-line will be anchored by senior C BJ Schwartz. Albert Van Pelt looks to start at LG, while Kenyon Rayburn will start at RG. I am seriously considering redshirting all freshman guards. At tackle, freshman Reuben Ireland will play on the left side, and William Kelly on the right.

DEFENSE
Fifth year senior Frank Fong will take over as the RDE. He had some success at that position last year when filling in for departed Tommy Alexander. Sherman Pagnotti will bookend the D-line at LDE. In the middle of our 4-3 will be freshman Shannon Felder at LDT and All-Conference DT Bernie Ciaccio will play on the right. Gus Racz will fill in for Felder on passing downs.

Our linebacking corps still needs work. All-Conference Junior Darnell Finley is back as the Mike linebacker, with Jimmy Webster playing Strong side and Seth Fleming will begin the year as the Will Backer.

In the secondary, freshman Scott Rhodes will start as our top CB, and freshman Bobby Horibe will play the other side. Senior Isaac Wright will play SS, and Cedric Georgopoulos will line up at FS.

SPECIAL TEAMS
Our punter will be Gino Sheilds and our kicker will be Ricky Whalen. Sean Smedley will return kicks and Aaron Lyons will take punts.
