Tar Heel Stars - a Bowl Bound College Football dynasty

I've really gotten back into Bowl Bound College Football lately, a game I haven't played enough and really enjoy. I thought I would try a dynasty based on some of the best high school players out of North Carolina. What school will they attend? Will they have successful careers? Unfortunately there's no pro football game to attach to the college one (yet) but this should still be interesting.

Recruiting Week 1

John Parks – WR - East Davidson HS, Thomasville, NC

John is rated as the best prospect in North Carolina this year, at 46th overall, and according to the scouts is the second best wide receiver prospect in the land. He blew the doors off opposing defenses in his senior year, ending up with 1,178 receiving yards and 18 touchdowns. At 6'0, 194 pounds, he tops it all off with a 4.57 40 score.

John is already seeing lots of interest from the big schools, and has offers from USC, LSU, Maryland, Penn State, West Virginia, and Wake Forest so far. It looks like he hasn't made up his mind yet though – there's not really a front runner.

Donald Carroll – DT – Bunn HS, Bunn, NC

Donald is a big boy at 6'4”, 270 pounds, and is the other 5 star recruit from North Carolina this year. There's nothing not to like here – he's rated 73rd in the country and 15th best at his position (very deep DT class of prospects this year.) He was a huge threat for his high school, finishing the year with 53 tackles, 10 sacks, and 17 tackles for loss. He's fast too, running a 4.80 40,

So far Donald hasn't seen any offers, though he's interested in Boston College, Mississippi, and NC State, among other schools. With so many great defensive tackles coming out this year, he could be overlooked a bit.

Ronnie Dennis – RB – Lackawanna College – Clinton, NC

Ronnie is coming out of junior college, and ready to get some playing time with a Division 1 school. He's rated as the #100 prospect in the country, and the 12th best running back. At 6'0”, 177 pounds, he's got very good speed (4.53 40) and hammered out 1,748 rushing yards and 18 touchdowns last year.

Ronnie doesn't have any offers yet, and is thinking about schools like Georgia and Maryland.

David Maloney – DE – Richmond County HS – Rockingham, NC

David has lethal speed (4.53) for a DE and could be a real menace to opposing quarterbacks. At 6'6” and 257 pounds he brings the physical package as well. He's rated #184 nationwide and the 16th best defensive end. David dominated opposing teams in high school, finishing with 65 tackles, 13 sacks, and 5 forced fumbles last year.

David already has offers from Maryland and Wake Forest, and it looks like Maryland is leading the pack so far.

David Holder – CB – East Surry HS, Pilot Mountain, NC

David doesn't have the typical size for a cover corner at only 5'9” and 162 pounds but he is plenty fast (4.54) and really covered the field in high school. He played cornerback and wide receiver, last year ending up with 66 tackles, 3 sacks, and an interception, along with 700 receiving yards. David is rated #317 in the nation and is the 26th best corner available.

So far David has only one offer, from Boise State, but he'd prefer to hear from Maryland or Penn State.

Recruiting Week 2

None of our players committed to a school, and their opinions didn't really change.

Recruiting Week 3

John Parks committed to the West Virginia Mountaineers! He had plenty of schools to choose from but he made his choice. WVU finished #3 in the nation last season , has an excellent quarterback, George Barnett, and is fairly weak in the receiving area so it was a natural fit.

No changes or new offers for any of our other players.

Recruiting Week 4

Again, no changes. It appears our players are late bloomers, as two of them don't even have a scholarship offer yet. It seems like a good chance for some lower tier team to step in and score a coup.

Recruiting Week 5

Again, no changes.

Recruiting Week 6

Donald Carroll finally had his offers come in this week – from Mississippi, NC State, and Wake Forest. He seems to be looking hard at the two in-state schools so far.

Ronnie Dennis got offers from Georgia and Maryland this week – he seems to prefer Maryland so far, but these players can change their minds.

David Maloney is considering offers from Maryland, Wake Forest, and West Virginia. We could see our players playing together at one of these schools.

David Holder is still waiting on further offers, with only Boise State's so far.

Recruiting Week 7

David Maloney signed his letter of intent to commit to Maryland! The Terrapins finished 9-3 last year and were ranked #17 in the country. They are short at DE right now, with their best starter a senior. Congratulations David!
Ronnie Dennis got a surprise offer to add to his others – from USC! Looks like he's still leaning to Maryland or West Virginia.

David Holder received a scholarship offer from NC State – he's got some thinking to do.

Recruiting Week 8

Donald Carroll has committed to Mississippi! Ole Miss finished 10-3 last year at #15 overall and they definitely need defensive tackles.

Ronnie Dennis has committed to Georgia! The Bulldogs had an excellent year last year, finishing 10-3 and #6 in the country. They can really use a backup to their starting RB Timmy Ross and Ronnie fills the bill.

David Holder surprised a lot of people by committing to Boise State! They made their interest known early and in the end that's what counted. The Broncos reeled off a 10-2 season and a #21 finish last year , and they have multiple corners graduating next year, so David can really help out.

All our players have committed!

Season Start, 2014

Just some basics about the way I run things – I use a 1-100 skill system and a 1-10 rating format. With this dynasty I've also tried a 16 team playoff system instead of the bowls, since I hadn't tried that before. Each game is still converted into an existing bowl name, however. I'm running Tulane with the can't be fired option and letting the coaches run everything.

John Parks – WR, West Virginia

The Mountaineers talented QB George Barnett is starting in his senior year, and John Parks will be on of his main targets, as he is the starting SE! He looks tremendous, and is rated 5/10 to start – by his senior year he could be one of the top receivers in the country. Junior Bruce Rivera will start at flanker, and they should both do some damage this year.

Donald Carroll – DT, Mississippi

Donald will start as a true freshman, as the team has little depth at DT. He is rated 4/8 right now, and definitely has some learning to do. Junior Matt Brown will be starting across from him and the Rebels better hope neither get hurt this year!

Ronnie Dennis – RB, Georgia

As expected, Ronnie will back up excellent RB Timmy Ross this year. Ronnie is rated 6/8 and should be able to make an immediate impact, an advantage of signing a junior college player.

David Maloney – DE, Maryland

David will be redshirted this year. He is already rated 5/8 and the Terrapins are hoping for great things from him next year. For now the excellent senior-junior combo of Marcus Ferris and Phil Harris will start at DE.

David Holder – CB, Boise State

David will be redshirted this season. He is currently rated 3/6 and will get to watch seniors Francis “Frank” Grimes and Adam Jones start at corner.

With more work and attention to detail, he will have hands as good as anyone in the nation. When he learns how to make cuts a little sharper, his route running could be unparalleled. There will come a day when his speed will put him in an elite class of receivers. His main job is to catch the ball but he will eventually surprise people with his electrifying running.

His ability at the point of attack will someday be compared to some of the all time greats. This kid's tackling ability is going to keep improving until he is one of the best in the league. As his familiarity with the position grows, his aggressiveness could take his game to an elite level. Most so called 'experts' think he will have about average speed for a D tackle.

By the time he wraps up his career, his inside running skills could be legendary. As he continues to learn the position, he will become a solid receiver out of the backfield. His blocking skills will contribute positively to his overall game. When he peaks, his ability to shed tackles will make for some huge plays.

Has the combination of power and speed to someday be a reliable end against the run. He will eventually have the kind of speed that is scary in a defensive end. By the time he's finished, he'll have the type of agility that really stands out for a guy his size. He'll continue to improve his strength until he can hold his own against most offensive linemen.

When fully developed, the ability to blitz from the corner position will be a strength. By the time his career is over, he will develop above average agility. As he continues to improve, his tackling ability will just add to his overall game. When fully developed, I look for him to be very reliable in zone coverage.

Week 1, 2014

John Parks – WR, West Virginia

Week 1 and we have a barn-burner of two of our teams as Boise State travels to take on West Virginia. The Mountaineers held the Broncos to no touchdowns and won going away, 27-15. John grabbed his first collegiate touchdown in the fourth quarter, a three yard grab, and finished with 5 catches for 31 yards.

Donald Carroll – DT, Mississippi

Ole Miss played host to UAB this week and was able to salvage a 17-6 win, though it took two fourth quarter touchdowns to do it. If you ask me, that game was way closer than in should have been, particularly in letting the Blazers run up almost 400 total yards. Donald made a big impact in his first college game, though – hounding the quarterback with 3 hurries, a sack, and a tackle.

Ronnie Dennis – RB, Georgia

Georgia did not play this week.

David Maloney – DE, Maryland

Maryland destroyed Central Michigan this week, 45-12. David watched from the sidelines.

David Holder – CB, Boise State

Boise State lost to WVU, 27-15. David did not play.

Week 2, 2014

John Parks – WR, West Virginia (1-0, #11)

This week West Virginia took on a real challenge, traveling to Knoxville to take on Tennessee. The Volunteers took an early lead and controlled the game for three quarters, with impressive quarterbacks on each side lobbing touchdowns. WVU rallied to take the lead in the fourth quarter as John caught a 16 yard score, but in the end Tennessee pulled it out, driving for a final TD to win 34-31. John had 3 catches for 41 yards and the TD, but went home disappointed with the rest of his team.

Donald Carroll – DT, Mississippi (1-0, #17)

Mississippi faced off against a very tough Iowa team in Oxford this week. The Hawkeyes tore through the Rebels defense and held Mississippi down to finish with a 31-17 win. Donald missed the game with a cracked sternum but should probably be back next week.

Ronnie Dennis – RB, Georgia (0-0)

Georgia started their season off with a home game against Florida State – it was a close game all around, and was tied up at 19 going into the fourth quarter, until Georgia QB Vince Maxwell came up with two huge passing touchdowns to win the game 33-22 for the Bulldogs. The running game for Georgia never broke loose, but Ronnie had 14 carries for 42 yards in his first college game.

David Maloney – DE, Maryland (1-0, #14)

Maryland hosted Texas A&M this week, and the Aggies gave them all they could handle, pushing their defense to the breaking point. Luckily it held, and Maryland won, 31-24.

David Holder – CB, Boise State (0-1)

Miami of Ohio travelled to Boise this week and the Broncos manhandled them, 28-10.

John Parks – WR, West Virginia (1-1, #14)

West Virginia traveled to Wyoming this week to rough up an overmatched Cowboys team, 30-13. John led the team with 5 catches for 51 yards.

Donald Carroll – DT, Mississippi (1-1, #18)

Mississippi took on Arkansas State this week in Oxford, and passed all over the Red Wolves for a 35-24 victory. Donald was held out this week also with his cracked sternum but is probable for next week.

Ronnie Dennis – RB, Georgia (1-0, #11)

Georgia hosted the UAB Blazers this week, and like Ole Miss two weeks ago, could barely control them – finishing with a 38-26 win. Ronnie ran for his first college touchdown in the first quarter, a three yard jab. Georgia's running game was excellent this week, with Timmy Ross going for 153 yards and a score, and Ronnie helping with 14 carries for 69 yards and the TD.

David Maloney – DE, Maryland (2-0, #15)

Maryland hosted a winless Florida Atlantic team this week, and demolished them 59-13.

David Holder – CB, Boise State (1-1)

Boise State faced the California Golden Bears this week in Boise – Cal was a top 5 team last year and looks to repeat the performance this year, as they remained undefeated and beat Boise State 23-18. The Broncos tried their best, but never led in the game and just couldn't score a touchdown when they needed one.

John Parks – WR, West Virginia (2-1, #13)

West Virginia faced an unpredictable Navy team this week, and it ended up being a slugfest, with WVU on top, 51-38. John had his first big game, leading the team with 7 catches for 109 yards, including two catches of 30 yards or better.

Donald Carroll – DT, Mississippi (2-1, #18)

Mississippi went to Athens this week to take on Georgia in a conference battle. It started bad and ended worse for the Rebels, as they were held to 222 total yards and absolutely dominated by Georgia, 50-9. Donald didn't start, but came in later in the game and recorded 2 hurries.

Ronnie Dennis – RB, Georgia (2-0, #9)

Timmy Ross ran wild in this week's Mississippi game, racking up four touchdowns. Ronnie had one run for four yards before going out with a bruised kidney. Looks like he's going to miss a game or two at least.

David Maloney – DE, Maryland (3-0, #14)

The Terrapins hosted Boston College this week in their first conference game. Maryland won a tough one, 26-21, in a game that had several lead changes and could have gone either way. Both teams remain in the top 20, but Maryland is now 4-0!

David Holder – CB, Boise State (1-2)

Boise State started their conference schedule with a bang, routing Utah State 30-6.

John Parks – WR, West Virginia (3-1, #14)

West Virginia was off this week.

Donald Carroll – DT, Mississippi (2-2, 0-1, #22)

Mississippi traveled to Auburn this week, hoping to atone for last week's blowout loss. Auburn shut down their running game and they failed to score an offensive touchdown in a 25-19 loss. Donald was able to play this week and recorded a tackle and a deflected pass.

Ronnie Dennis – RB, Georgia (3-0, 1-0, #6)

Georgia hosted Alabama this week in a battle of unbeaten teams. Alabama was held to just field goals as Georgia managed a 23-12 win. Timmy Ross went out with tendinitis after only 8 rushes, so Ronnie came in, bruised kidney and all, to rush 10 times for 58 yards and a crucial ten yard touchdown. Third stringer Ronnie Templeton also ran the ball well.

Georgia is now ranked #1 in the nation after this game!

David Maloney – DE, Maryland (4-0, 1-0, #10)

Maryland travelled to South Carolina this week to play Clemson. An early touchdown helped the Terrapins keep control of the game and win 20-9 in a defensive battle.

David Holder – CB, Boise State (2-2, 1-0)

Boise State took on Idaho on the road this week. The Broncos moved the ball very well but struggled in the red zone. The game ended up tied at 27 at the end, and the teams traded Tds in overtime before Idaho intercepted a Gerald King pass to win the game, 40-34.

John Parks – WR, West Virginia (3-1, #12)

John got terrible news before this game – he's been suspended for poor academics! He will need to improve his grades before he can get back on the field. Really bad luck, especially that it happened before this week's game where WVU pounded Louisville 47-6 and WVU quarterback George Barnett threw for 525 yards and 3 scores.

Donald Carroll – DT, Mississippi (2-3, 0-2)

The Rebels faced a very strong Florida team this week, and almost came away with a win. The Gators needed a last minute field goal to bring it to overtime, then clinched the 20-17 win. Donald made his mark this week, with a tackle, 2 hurries, and a forced fumble.

Ronnie Dennis – RB, Georgia (4-0, 2-0, #1)

Georgia had no trouble with this week's game, hammering Vandy 48-10. Ronnie got the lion's share of this week's carries and ended up with 25 carries for 96 yards, his best game yet.

David Maloney – DE, Maryland (5-0, 2-0, #6)

The Terrapins went to 6-0 this week after beating Virginia Tech 29-23. The Hokies took the game to overtime but Maryland blocked VT's final field goal to win the game.

David Holder – CB, Boise State (2-3, 1-1)

Boise State took on Army this week and pounded them, 45-6. Definitely a much needed win for the Broncos.

Cool! I've been thinking about doing something like this with TCY and the metro Detroit area. I did one a while back and had a lot of fun with it.

John Parks – WR, West Virginia (4-1, 1-0, #6)

West Virginia traveled to Syracuse this week, and pounded them 31-10. With Parks and one of their better tight ends suspended, the passing game suffered but they were able to run for 285 yards.

Donald Carroll – DT, Mississippi (2-4, 0-3)

Mississippi did not play this week.

Ronnie Dennis – RB, Georgia (5-0, 3-0, #1)

Georgia took on undefeated Kentucky this week, but held their offense in check to get the win, 30-17. With Timmy Ross still affected by tendinitis, Ronnie was the starter again this week, going 24 carries for 74 yards, grabbing a one yard touchdown pass, and adding a one yard TD run as well.

David Maloney – DE, Maryland (6-0, 3-0, #7)

Maryland remained undefeated this week after beating an outmatched Duke team 35-29, but Duke made it pretty close with a strong rushing attack.

David Holder – CB, Boise State (3-3, 1-1)

Boise State went on the road to winless Nevada this week, and completely shut down their offense for a 23-8 win

John Parks – WR, West Virginia (5-1, 2-0, #7)

The Mountaineers took their show on the road to South Florida this week, and left with a 38-24 win. The bad news was that QB George Barnett was injured and left the game with a strained MCL. He's now listed as doubtful for 2-4 weeks, so we'll see how fast he recovers. Backup quarterback John Miller is pretty good, however. To add to their woes, monster starting RB Alfred Hale (10/10 current rating) has been academically suspended!

Donald Carroll – DT, Mississippi (2-4, 0-3)

The Rebels faced another challenge in their brutal schedule this year, playing Tennessee in Knoxville. Despite being held to just 207 yards of offense, they almost pulled it off, but ended up losing 16-13. Donald did not play in this game, I'm not sure why.

Ronnie Dennis – RB, Georgia (6-0, 4-0, #1)

Georgia did not play this week

David Maloney – DE, Maryland (7-0, 4-0, #5)

Maryland did not play this week.

David Holder – CB, Boise State (4-3, 2-1)

The Broncos faced a 1-6 San Jose State team at home this week, and easily won, 31-9. QB Gerald King had a nice game with 270 yards passing and three touchdowns.

John Parks – WR, West Virginia (6-1, 3-0, #5)

West Virginia had the week off. Hopefully this will help their quarterback recover faster. John's GPA is up to 1.97 but he's still suspended. Getting closer though.

Donald Carroll – DT, Mississippi (2-5, 0-4)

Mississippi faced #15 Alabama in Oxford this week, and pulled a major upset, 20-9. Donald played but didn't get any tackles, only a deflected pass.

Ronnie Dennis – RB, Georgia (6-0, 4-0, #1)

Georgia faced a tough 6-1 Florida team at home this week (I guess the game isn't programmed for The World's Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party in Jacksonville.) They were able to shut down Florida's passing game and ended up with a 22-14 win. Timmy Ross was back in the driver's seat at RB, going for 81 yards, and Ronnie was limited to 8 carries for 29 yards.

David Maloney – DE, Maryland (7-0, 4-0, #3)

Maryland remained undefeated and continued to climb the rankings to #2 nationwide this week, after handing Florida State a 42-33 loss.

David Holder – CB, Boise State (5-3, 3-1)

Boise State continued to look good in their conference with a 28-19 win over Fresno State. This propels them to top team in the WAC.

John Parks – WR, West Virginia (6-1, 3-0, #6)

West Virginia took on a capable Cincinnati team this week and totally routed them, 48-15. They are looking very good right now, and should be better once John returns. He's hoping he will be able to come back before the end of the season.

Donald Carroll – DT, Mississippi (3-5, 1-4)

Mississippi had no trouble with Army this week, notching a 41-20 win. Donald went out early with a bruised sternum and missed the rest of the game.

Ronnie Dennis – RB, Georgia (7-0, 5-0, #1)

Georgia went on the road this week to Columbia to face South Carolina. They had little trouble taking care of the Gamecocks, in a 37-21 win. Ronnie ended up with the lion's share of the carries, with 23 rushes for 96 yards. He also grabbed a 44 yard touchdown pass

David Maloney – DE, Maryland (8-0, 5-0, #2)

Maryland took on the NC State Wolfpack this week and won again, though it was close at 23-17. Despite their high ranking, some have questioned Maryland's ability against very good teams, as they seem to have a lot of very close wins.

David Holder – CB, Boise State (6-3, 4-1)

The Broncos continued to dominate conference foes, this week smacking New Mexico State 44-10.

John Parks – WR, West Virginia (7-1, 4-0, #7)

Good news and bad news this week. The good news is that John is back from his suspension, and he made an immediate impact, with 3 catches for 69 yards and a 37 yard touchdown catch. The bad news is that an aggressive Rutgers team came into Morgantown and beat the Mountaineers 26-23 on a fourth quarter rally. This is really going to hurt WVU's chances at a top ranking but they remain #2 in the conference behind Louisville.

Donald Carroll – DT, Mississippi (4-5, 1-4)

Mississippi has fought hard to get back to .500 football after their terrible start, and they achieved that goal this week against a outmatched Arkansas team, 27-9. Donald played through his injury but only recorded one hurry.

Ronnie Dennis – RB, Georgia (8-0, 6-0, #1)

Georgia faced Mississippi State at home this week, and it was a lot closer match than anyone expected, with UGA winning in overtime 30-27. Ronnie had 16 carries for 88 yards, though he was denied any touchdowns – Timmy Ross ran in two TDs.

David Maloney – DE, Maryland (9-0, 6-0, #2)

Another week, another win for the Terrapins. They took care of Wake Forest 27-15, stifling the Deacons offense.

David Holder – CB, Boise State (7-3, 5-1)

Boise State hosted Lousiana Tech this week and really put on a defensive show, shutting their guests out 29-0. The Broncos remain on top of the WAC and are playing good football right now.

Week 12, 2014

John Parks – WR, West Virginia (7-2, 4-1, #11)

WVU traveled to face Connecticut this week, and hammered them 45-6, in frustration at last week's loss. This game was all about the running game, as WVU racked up over 250 yards rushing. John led the team in receiving with 5 catches for 61 yards.

Donald Carroll – DT, Mississippi (5-5, 2-4)

The Rebels went on the road to play LSU this week, a tough game but winnable. Several turnovers led to a 27-19 LSU win. Donald had a tackle and forced a fumble this week.

Ronnie Dennis – RB, Georgia (9-0, 7-0 #1)

Georgia faced Tennessee at home this week, a huge rivalry game no matter what the teams' records. The Volunteers pounded Georgia's defense all day, racking up more than 500 yards of offense, and there were several lead changes before the game went to overtime. After the Bulldogs missed their field goal attempt, Tennessee converted to win the game 36-33! Ronnie had a big game this week, with 25 carries for 101 yards – his first 100 yard game.

David Maloney – DE, Maryland (10-0, 7-0, #2)

Maryland's last game of the regular season was on the road at Miami. Miami is an average team this year but they gave it their all, jumping to an early lead but then watching as Maryland slowly came back to win, 26-22.

David Holder – CB, Boise State (8-3, 6-1)

The Broncos did not play this week.

Week 14, 2014

John Parks – WR, West Virginia (8-2, 5-1, #8)

West Virginia finished out their regular season on the road at Pittsburgh. It was a game of halves this week, with WVU strong in the first half, and Pitt strong in the second half. In the end Pitt won, 34-27. The Mountaineers really staggered at the end of the year, with 2 losses in 3 games and with this loss fell to #2 in the Big East. John had 4 catches for 68 yards in the game.

Donald Carroll – DT, Mississippi (5-6, 2-6)

This week was the rivalry game against Mississippi State – this year played in Oxford. It was a low scoring affair on both sides, but a critical interception by Rebel QB Steve Maurer set up the winning touchdown for the Bulldogs who won 17-10. Donald did not play because of a torn foot tendon.

Playoffs – 2014

Maryland was the #1 seed in the 16 seed tournament this year. Georgia was #7. Boise State snuck in at #14. Mississippi managed to get into the Papa John's Bowl (in the BBCF playoff system, there are also bowl games for the lower ranked teams.) West Virginia made the International Bowl.

John Parks – WR, West Virginia

The Mountaineers faced an outmanned Ball State team in the Internation Bowl, and there was no question of the outcome – WVU won 65-7 in a dominating performance. John was limited to 2 catches for 33 yards in the game.

Donald Carroll – DT, Mississippi

Mississippi faced Rutgers in the Papajohns.com bowl this year. Rutgers came in with a better record but Mississippi won the game 22-7. Donald had a tackled and a forced fumble in the game.

Ronnie Dennis – RB, Georgia

Georgia faced #9 USC in the playoffs, hoping to control their late season slide. USC started out hot with two long touchdown passes but Georgia dominated the second half, and in the end the game went to overtime. Georgia missed their first field goal and USC passed in a touchdown to win, 34-27. Ronnie had 11 carries for 35 yards in the game.

David Maloney – DE, Maryland

Maryland faced #16 seed BYU in the first playoff week. They shut them down, holding them to only 10 first downs in a 26-13 win. The next week they faced a tougher opponent, 8 seed Ohio State, and sent them packing 37-13. In the final 4, they faced 4 seed Auburn, and took them down in a very close 24-21 game. Finally they faced #2 California in the championship game - #1 vs #2 team in the country. Maryland triumphed again, 29-24, despite a late Cal rally. The Maryland Terrapins are the national champions and the only undefeated team in the country!

David Holder – CB, Boise State

Boise State faced a tough Oklahoma team, #3 in the country, this week. They played a tough game, and a fourth quarter rally sent the game to overtime. A missed field goal, however, led to an Oklahoma 30-23 win. The Broncos have to be proud to have done so well against so tough an opponent.

Here's what the playoff/bowl system looks like - one thing I really like about BBCF is all the information available on one screen.

2014 Wrap-up

John Parks – WR, West Virginia

West Virginia finished 9-3, and second in the Big East. They won the International Bowl this year. John Parks had a decent year, but obviously it was seriously impaired by his academic suspension. He ended up with 32 catches for 430 yards and 3 touchdowns. He should remain the top target for WVU next year if he can keep his grades straightened out. Unfortunately WVU will lose their monster QB George Barnett and 5 other starters, mostly on the defense. They have several excellent QBs signed already and have good options there.

Donald Carroll – DT, Mississippi

Mississippi didn't have a great year, finishing 6-7, but managed to eke out a bowl game, which they won. They stand to retain most of their starters, losing only a few key defenders. Donald showed flashes of real talent this year, but injuries cost him a lot of playing time. He ended up with 4 tackles, 9 hurries, 1 sack, and 2 forced fumbles on the year.

Ronnie Dennis – RB, Georgia

Georgia had a very good year (10-3) but ended on a disappointing note, slipping badly at the end of the year and losing out of the playoffs, even though they held the #1 ranking for most of the year. They will lose two key starters on the offensive line for next year but otherwise won't be hurt too badly. Ronnie had a surprisingly good year – taking over the starting duties for much of the season, and otherwise platooning with Timmy Ross. He ended up with 177 carries for 729 yards and 5 TDs, though he had problems getting into the end zone late in the year. I expect that he will play more of a supporting role next season as Ross has continued to develop.

David Maloney – DE, Maryland

Maryland went undefeated and won the national championship playoff – no question there. Unfortunately David didn't get to play but will start his college career next year. What's really scary is looking at their roster they are only set to lose 4 or 5 starters off this talented team.

David Holder – CB, Boise State

Boise State finished 9-4 and won their conference, a good performance all around. They will lose several starters for next year but should have adequate replacements. David is champing at the bit to contribute next year.

2015 Start of Season

John Parks – WR, West Virginia

John should remain the top target for the Mountaineers this season, if he can keep his grades in line. WVU's new QB will be Vincent Blake, a very good player who has been the backup the past two seasons. John has already improved a lot after a year's play and is now rated 7/10. His hands, route running, and agility ratings have particularly improved.

Donald Carroll – DT, Mississippi

Donald hopes he can stay healthy this year and contribute a bit more to the team. He looks to be the top talent on the Rebel defensive line, currently rated 6/8. He has really scary skills at the point of attack and in tackling.

Ronnie Dennis – RB, Georgia

Ronnie will be playing in his final year at Georgia, and will be mostly backing up and platooning with Timmy Ross. He is rated 6/8. The Bulldogs have had some shakeups in the offensive line and will be starting two true freshmen this year – both potential monsters but with a lot of work to do, at 4/10 ratings.

David Maloney – DE, Connecticut

The one major change was that David, after redshirting all year, decided he didn't want to play at Maryland after all, and put himself on the transfer list. He ended up transferring to Connecticut, where he will now have to wait out his transfer year. He is currently rated 5/8 and has a good shot at being a starter next year.

David Holder – CB, Boise State

David is glad to be done with his redshirt year and get some playing time. Currently he is #3 on the depth chart at corner, but there's not much difference in talent between him and the starters so if he makes a move he could easily become a starter. He is currently rated 4/6, and needs to shake off the rust of the last year.

With more work and attention to detail, he will have hands as good as anyone in the nation. As he catches on to the nuances of the position, he'll consistently run beautiful routes. There will come a day when his speed will put him in an elite class of receivers. Sooner or later, the combination of speed and body control will make him a top runner at his position.

Potential

This kid's tackling ability is going to keep improving until he is one of the best in the league. He is always in high gear and I expect him to become one of the more aggressive players you'll see. You're going to see some amazing agility from this kid down the road. He'll eventually have substantial strength that offensive linemen will have to respect.

Potential

As he continues to learn the game, his ability to run outside the tackles could really make him stand out. His blocking skills will contribute positively to his overall game. With a little more muscle, he'll break tackles on a regular basis. With more experience, cutting to the right hole will become second nature.

Potential

He projects to be a solid defensive end against the run. He'll probably show some aggressive tendencies but not more than your average DE. He will eventually have the kind of speed that is scary in a defensive end. At the rate he's improving, his agility will be in the elite category one of these days.

Scouting Report
Potential

He's still learning the tricks of the trade but he will eventually be a solid man cover corner. Most scouts project that he will eventually have very good speed for a corner. He loves the tip drill in practice and his ability to get turnovers will help his team down the road. If he keeps working hard, he should end up being solid in zone coverage.

Week 1, 2015

John Parks – WR, West Virginia

WVU started their season off with an easy win over Navy, rocking them 41-13. Their new running back Arthur Jones ran for 199 yards and two touchdowns, and John had 8 catches for 58 yards and a one yard touchdown reception.

Donald Carroll – DT, Mississippi

Many had predicted a turnaround for Mississippi, and they were ranked #12 in preseason. They faced a tough BYU team on the road for their first game, and the Rebels were sent home with their tail between their legs after a 43-12 scorching. Donald had a tackle and a hurry in the game.

Ronnie Dennis – RB, Georgia

Did not play

David Maloney – DE, Connecticut

Uconn had no trouble with Temple this week, winning 37-13.

David Holder – CB, Boise State

The Broncos went on the road to start off their season, to face the East Carolina Pirates. ECU racked up the yards but Boise State bent but didn't break to win, 14-13. David started his collegiate career with a bang, recording 5 tackles, grabbing an interception and forcing a fumble. He's already moved up to #2 corner after 1 game!

Week 2, 2015

John Parks – WR, West Virginia (1-0, #10)

WVU faced Northwestern this week in a battle of 1-0 teams. It went into overtime in an offensive shootout, but the Mountaineers won it with a 9 yard Mitch Gonzales touchdown catch, 26-23. John had 3 catches for 38 yards in the game.

Donald Carroll – DT, Mississippi (0-1, #16)

Mississippi got back on the right track this week, manhandling Indiana 34-13. Donald had his biggest game yet, with 3 tackles, a sack, and a stuff.

Ronnie Dennis – RB, Georgia (0-0)

Georgia faced Wake Forest this week, started fast, and didn't look back in a 51-15 win. Timmy Ross was definitely in charge, rushing for 200 yards and adding another 70 receiving yards. Ronnie had 14 carries for 45 yards.

David Maloney – DE, Connecticut (1-0)

The Huskies were dominated by a #3 Oklahoma team this week, 44-16.

David Holder – CB, Boise State (1-0)

Boise State faced Louisiana-Monroe in their home opener and won 41-34 in overtime. Both teams were airing the ball out and Bronco QB Gerald King had 325 yards and 3 touchdowns. David didn't have a big part in this week's game, recording only a deflected pass.

Week 3, 2015

John Parks – WR, West Virginia (2-0, #10)

WVU hosted Southern Mississippi this week, and defeated them with no trouble, 34-13. John led the team with 5 catches for 94 yards, including a 45 yard catch.

Donald Carroll – DT, Mississippi (1-1, #16)

Mississippi faced East Carolina this week and got a 13-9 win in a defensive battle. Donald was a serious threat on the line this week, with 3 tackles, 2 sacks, a hurry, and a stuff.

Ronnie Dennis – RB, Georgia (1-0, #7)

The Bulldogs blew out the winless Memphis Tigers this week, 37-10. Before the game, Georgia got the bad news – starting RB Timmy Ross was suspended for poor grades! Ronnie was handed the ball and it looks like he will start until Timmy returns. He made the most of it this week with a career game, 19 rushes for 138 yards.

David Maloney – DE, Connecticut (1-1)

The Huskies traveled to California to face the #1 team in the country, USC. It was over early, but wasn't quite a rout, as USC won 41-27.

David Holder – CB, Boise State (2-0)

Boise State faced Troy this week, and handled them easily despite a late rally attempt, 30-14. David didn't record any stats this week.

Another nice feature of BBCF is that is tracks a few more stats than TCY or other games. For wide receivers, it tracks drops of course, and drop percentage, but also missed routes. It's really interesting to watch a receiver with a bad route running rating as they will often end the season with a high number of missed routes. Defensive backs also have an out of position stat and big plays allowed - both give you a better view of the player beyond just his positive stats. You'll see both of these more with an inexperienced player, and also sometimes with a really aggressive, ballhawking player. Offensive line players are tracked for the number of holding penalties and false starts they are charged for, which can be useful information, particularly if one player is dragging you down in that area.

Week 4, 2015

John Parks – WR, West Virginia (3-0, #11)

The Mountaineers faced a winless Syracuse team in their first conference battle, and won 41-21. John broke out with a huge game, 8 catches for 138 yards and two touchdowns. This was his career best game in all three areas.

Donald Carroll – DT, Mississippi (2-1, #15)

The Tennessee Volunteers came to Oxford this week, and the Rebels weren't up to the task, losing 20-6. Donald had two tackles and a sack in the game.

Ronnie Dennis – RB, Georgia (2-0, #7)

Georgia faced Kentucky this week in their conference opener and more than doubled Kentucky's offense yards in a 23-10 win. Ronnie carried the ball 25 times for 94 yards in the game - 3rd stringer Willie Harris spelled him for 62 yards rushing on 8 carries.

David Maloney – DE, Connecticut (1-2)

Connecticut had a tough challenge this week, against Louisville, and were shut down in a 30-13 loss.

David Holder – CB, Boise State (3-0)

The Broncos were dealt their first loss this week by tough conference foe Fresno State. Fresno rocked them for over 500 yards of offense in a 37-19 game. David had two tackles, 3 assists, and a defensed pass this week, though he also allowed one big play and missed two tackles. He's a young player and should make fewer mistakes with time.

Week 5, 2015

John Parks – WR, West Virginia (4-0, 1-0, #11)

West Virginia continues to impress this season, bringing home a win against a nationally ranked South Florida team this week, 31-27. John is really blowing up the last two games, as he grabbed two touchdowns of 25+ yards this week to finish with 6 catches for 132 yards and the 2 TDs. He's already beaten his yardage and touchdowns marks for last year, after only 5 games.

Donald Carroll – DT, Mississippi (2-2, 0-1, #19)

The Rebels faced an undefeated Auburn this week, on the road, and really buckled down to win, 24-17. This was a really impressive win and silenced a lot of critics who felt that Mississippi didn't deserve their national ranking. Donald had a tackle, a sack (his fifth on the year) and recovered a fumble.

Ronnie Dennis – RB, Georgia (3-0, 1-0, #7)

Big rivalry game this week as Georgia faced Tennessee. In the end the Bulldogs dominated the game in all aspects to win 29-14. Ronnie had his best game so far, smashing through the Volunteer defense for 197 yards on 27 carries.

David Maloney – DE, Connecticut (1-3)

Connecticut faced Rutgers this week and were hammered 38-14. It's beginning to look like a very long season for the Huskies.

David Holder – CB, Boise State (3-1, 0-1)

Boise State blanked Hawaii 36-0 to bounce back from last week's loss. David had 3 tackles and 2 assists in the game.

John Parks – WR, West Virginia (5-0, 2-0, #3)

WVU faced 3-1 Cincinnati this week in Morgantown, and won 34-18. John was heavily covered this week, but managed to catch 5 passes for 29 yards and a 2 yard touchdown.

Donald Carroll – DT, Mississippi (3-2, 1-1, #21)

The Rebels faced Georgia on the road this week, and it was a close one, especially in the second half when both teams QBs were throwing heavily. In the end Georgia won it 31-28. Donald did not play as a n ankle stress fracture kept him on the sidelines.

Ronnie Dennis – RB, Georgia (4-0, 2-0, #7)

Ronnie had 26 carries for 112 yards in the win against Mississippi.

David Maloney – DE, Connecticut (1-4, 0-2)

Can the Huskies season get any worse? Yes, as they become the first team Syracuse has beaten this year, an embarrasing 24-19 loss.

David Holder – CB, Boise State (4-1, 1-1)

Boise State pounded conference opponent Nevada this week, 34-10. David went out early in the game with a serious eye laceration that may keep him out of a game or two.

Week 7, 2015

John Parks – WR, West Virginia (6-0, 3-0, #3)

The Mountaineers traveled to face #20 Rutgers this week in their biggest game so far this season. WVU went up 17-0 at halftime but then Rutgers took over, scoring 20 straight points to win the game 20-17 and stun the WVU faithful. John had 6 catches for 80 yards and a 7 yard touchdown early in the game.

Donald Carroll – DT, Mississippi (3-3, 1-2)

Mississippi faced a strong LSU team, 5-1 on the year, and beat them handily, 34-6. The Rebels have played a brutal schedule so far this year but have shown real talent. Donald had two tackles this week.

Ronnie Dennis – RB, Georgia (5-0, 3-0, #7)

Georgia faced Florida in another giant rivalry game this week (in real life held in Jacksonville, FL, a “neutral” site.) Both teams were undefeated going into the game, making this one extra huge. Georgia's defense really stood out as they shut down Florida and held the Gators to 9 points in a decisive 33-9 game. Ronnie got into the end zone for the first time this year, twice – a 15 yard catch and 4 yard run, but was knocked out of the game early with a deviated septum and will be out for a week or so. He ended up with just 6 carries but for 64 yards, and 2 catches for 16 yards, with the two TDs.

David Maloney – DE, Connecticut (1-5, 0-3)

The Huskies were throttled by Pittsburgh this week, 41-10. It just gets worse and worse for them.

David Holder – CB, Boise State (5-1, 2-1)

Did not play this week

Week 8, 2015

John Parks – WR, West Virginia (6-1, 3-1, #8)

West Virginia faced a 1-6 Connecticut team this week and had no trouble dispatching them, 34-16. Vincent Blake threw for 343 yards, but John only caught 3 passes for 58 yards.

Donald Carroll – DT, Mississippi (4-3, 2-2, #24)

Did not play this week

Ronnie Dennis – RB, Georgia (6-0, 4-0, #7)

Georgia faced Auburn this week in a battle of top 10 teams. It was a back-and-forth game but in the end Auburn gave the Bulldogs their first loss of the season, 34-23. Ronnie did not play due to his injury – Georgia was really hurt in this one by having their top two backs out.

David Maloney – DE, Connecticut (1-6, 0-4)

Another week, another beatdown, this time by WVU.

David Holder – CB, Boise State (5-1, 2-1)

Boise State faced San Jose State this week, and it was no contest. The Broncos won the game 41-3. David was kept out by his eye injury.

Week 9, 2015

John Parks – WR, West Virginia (7-1, 4-1, #7)

The Mountaineers faced a dangerous Louisville team this week, and really struggled with turnovers, as Vincent Blake threw three picks. In the end Louisville came up victorious with a late field goal, 23-20. This game really hurt as West Virginia had every chance to win it but threw it away. John had a big game, with 6 catches for 95 yards and two touchdowns.

Donald Carroll – DT, Mississippi (4-3, 2-2, #25)

The Rebels hammered a hapless Arkansas squad this week, 38-7. Donald had a tackle, an assist, and a deflected pass in the game.

Ronnie Dennis – RB, Georgia (6-1, 4-1, #11)

Georgia vented their frustrations on South Carolina this week, and came back to Athens with a 38-7 win. Ronnie was back in the game this week and ran very well, with 26 carries for 141 yards and a 15 yard touchdown run.

David Maloney – DE, Connecticut (1-7, 0-5)

Connecticut lost to Houston this week, 16-9.

David Holder – CB, Boise State (6-1, 3-1)

The Broncos had little trouble with Utah State this week, winning 28-10. David did not play but the coaches feel his injury has recovered so he should be able to next week. Boise State is really knocking at the door of being a top 25 team, and many feel they should already be rated.

Is this accurate? His non-TD stats were five catches for one yard? I do not think I've ever seen anything like that in BBCF.

Reading along and enjoying the story.

Ah that should have been 80 yards, corrected the typo. John is having a pretty good year this year, all around - he has 10 touchdown passes with a few games to go.

Week 10, 2015

John Parks – WR, West Virginia (7-2, 4-2, #14)

West Virginia had a lot to prove this week, facing an 8-1 Michigan State team on the road. The Spartans kept the Mountaineer offense under control but WVU made the most of their opportunities and won a close one, 20-17. John had 5 catches for 59 yards and also caught the go-ahead touchdown in the 3rd quarter.

Donald Carroll – DT, Mississippi (5-3, 3-2, #23)

Did not play this week

Ronnie Dennis – RB, Georgia (7-1, 5-1, #9)

Georgia faced 1-7 Vanderbilt this week and seemed ready to put them away. Apparently they were looking past them and Vandy was in it all the way, making it close to the fourth quarter, and then leaving Georgia fans stunned with a 21-20 win on an 89 yard kickoff return for the winning score. Is Georgia going to repeat last year's late slide? This is a game they had no business losing, and it really hurt them in the polls. Ronnie ran well, with 22 carries for 117 yards, but it wasn't enough.

David Maloney – DE, Connecticut (1-8, 0-5)

The Huskies made it close against top 25 ranked South Florida, but couldn't put the game away, losing 41-34. David must be wondering at this point if he made the right decision, leaving last year's national champion for a 1-9 Connecticut team.

David Holder – CB, Boise State (7-1, 4-1)

Boise State notched a 33-16 win over Louisiana Tech this week, hammering home over 200 yards rushing. David was back in the lineup this week, recording 2 tackles, an assist, and a forced fumble in the game.

Week 11, 2015

John Parks – WR, West Virginia (8-2, 4-2, #10)

Did not play this week

Donald Carroll – DT, Mississippi (5-3, 3-2, #23)

Mississippi faced Florida this week, one of the best teams in the nation. There was really no contest, as the Gators won going away, 38-9. Donald had a tackle and a hurry in the game.

Ronnie Dennis – RB, Georgia (7-2, 5-2, #18)

Did not play this week

David Maloney – DE, Connecticut (1-9, 0-6)

Did not play this week

David Holder – CB, Boise State (8-1, 5-1)

Boise State blanked New Mexico State this week 32-0, going to 9-1 and reaching the national rankings. Unfortunately David got word that he was being suspended for poor grades!

John Parks – WR, West Virginia (8-2, 4-2, #9)

They did not play, but they keep climbing in the polls due to other teams losing.

Donald Carroll – DT, Mississippi (5-4, 3-3)

Mississippi had another brutal game this week at the hands of Alabama, losing 34-0. Donald recorded only a hurry in this game.

Ronnie Dennis – RB, Georgia (7-2, 5-2, #17)

Georgia continues to stagger toward the end of the season for the second year in a row. Losing to Vandy was bad, but this week they were blown out 42-17 by a mediocre Mississippi State team. It all seems to be falling apart for the Bulldogs as they gave up 7 turnovers in a forgettable game. The only good news was they got Timmy Ross back, but he is too little, too late. Ronnie sat out this game with a thumb laceration.

David Maloney – DE, Connecticut (1-9, 0-6)

Connecticut lost 24-16 to Cincinnati this week.

David Holder – CB, Boise State (9-1, 6-1, #25)

Boise State finished off their regular season against pitiful Idaho, and hammered them 69-0. David missed out due to his suspension.

WVU finished off their regular season with a win against Pittsburgh, 30-17. John had 3 catches for 59 yards in the game.

Donald Carroll – DT, Mississippi (5-5, 3-4)

The Rebels faced Mississippi State in their annual grudge match and came up with a 26-25 win to give them a winning record on the year. Donald dislocated his elbow in the game and will be out for a while.

Ronnie Dennis – RB, Georgia (7-3, 5-3, #19)

Georgia continued their utter collapse this week by losing to Georgia Tech in their rivalry game, 30-19. Tech is a good team but Georgia was never really in this one. Ronnie had 9 rushes for 29 yards and a 59 yard reception.

David Maloney – DE, Connecticut (1-10, 0-7)

Playoffs

John Parks – WR, West Virginia (9-3, 5-2, #4)

West Virginia got the #6 seed in the national playoffs, and faced off against Michigan State in their first game. The Spartans were looking for some revenge for their loss in the regular season, and pounded the Mountaineer defense with 460 total yards. WVU was off balance from the beginning of the game and never recovered, as Michigan State won 30-17. A disappointing result for West Virginia. John had 5 catches for 56 yards and a touchdown in the game.

Donald Carroll – DT, Mississippi (7-5, 4-4)

Mississippi faced Hawaii in the Independence Bowl, a tough 8-3 opponent. The Rebels won 29- 20 as Mississippi QB Steve Maurer threw for 384 yards and a touchdown. Donald unfortunately missed the bowl game due to his injury.

Ronnie Dennis – RB, Georgia (7-5, 5-3)

Georgia's miserable slide ended in them losing to Kansas, 34-23. Three straight losses to end the season, the Georgia fans are furious and are calling for their coach's head. Ronnie had 12 carries for 45 yards in his final collegiate game.

David Maloney – DE, Connecticut (1-10, 0-7)

No postseason

David Holder – CB, Boise State (11-1, 7-1, #10)

Boise State played Southern Miss in the Hawaii Bowl. It was nice to have the trip to Hawaii but the game was a total mismatch, as a 6-6 Southern Miss team never got going and Boise State won 30-13. David had a good game with a tackle, an assist, a defensed pass, and an interception.

In the end the playoffs resulted in a #1 vs #2 matchup just like last year, undefeated Oklahoma State at #1 versus #2 Texas Tech. In an upset, Texas Tech shut out the Cowboys 17-0 to become national champions.

2015 Wrap-up

John Parks – WR, West Virginia

John had a very good year this year, starting 11 games. He finished with 58 catches for 840 yards and 10 touchdowns. Only three receivers in the country had that many touchdowns, and he was rewarded with the First Team All Big East award, as well as being named National Second Team All-American! (One thing I noticed is that receivers didn't get the correct number of yards this year – I don't know if this is a problem with BBCF generally or just a fluke this year. Only 3 players broke the 1,000 yards receiving mark – compare that to the 2007 Division 1 stats – 39 players broke that mark.)

Donald Carroll – DT, Mississippi

Donald started 11 games this year and improved a lot on his freshman season. He ended up with 16 tackles, 5 sacks, 4 hurries, 2 stuffs, and a deflected pass.

Ronnie Dennis – RB, Georgia

Ronnie had a big year this year, starting most of the season at RB, though he struggled to find the end zone. He had 174 rushes for 937 yards and 2 touchdowns, as well as 8 catches for 114 yards and a touchdown. This will be his final year in college and in the dynasty.

David Maloney – DE, Connecticut

David missed the season due to transferring, and is looking forward to finally getting to play next year.

David Holder – CB, Boise State

Boise State had another great year this year, ending up ranked #10 in the nation after their bowl win. David was mostly a backup this year but got some starting time, but was limited to various injuries. He ended the year with 18 tackles, 2 forced fumbles, 2 defensed passes, and 1 interception. He looks probable to start next year at corner.

Scouting Report
Potential

As he continues to learn the game, his ability to run outside the tackles could really make him stand out. His blocking skills will contribute positively to his overall game. With a little more muscle, he'll break tackles on a regular basis. With more experience, cutting to the right hole will become second nature.

2016 Season Start

I thought about finding a replacement in the dynasty for Ronnie, but the NC recruits this year were mostly offensive line, so I won't for now. Maybe next year.

John Parks – WR, West Virginia

John is really developing into a major threat at WR. He is currently rated 8/10. There isn't a lot behind him at receiver so he should have every chance at a huge year, if he doesn't get hurt. QB Vince Blake will return and the Mountaineers scored the #3 recruiting class, so the roster is stacked and they are ready for another run at the top of the college ranks.

Donald Carroll – DT, Mississippi

Donald is back at starter for the Rebels in his junior year. He is rated 6/9 and should round out an excellent defensive line, definitely the strength of the defense. The Rebels have true freshman Vernon Williams running the ball this year and he has a lot of potential but is fairly raw now. They have also solidified the corner spot with JC recruit Mike Morrison. Overall this roster looks pretty good – the scouts are saying they could finish third in the SEC.

David Maloney – DE, Connecticut

David has had two years to wait before starting this year, and has made the most of it. He's really developed and is now rated 7/8 and looks to be the Huskies' best defensive lineman this year. Uconn will try to bounce back, at least a bit, from the horrible performance last year. The scouts are saying this team will finish 7th in the conference.

David Holder – CB, Boise State

David, as expected, will start as second corner for the Broncos this year. He is rated 4/6. They will have a new QB, Clarence Marshall, and look pretty shaky at the safety position, so I wonder what kind of help David will receive this year. They should battle Fresno State for the top of the WAC, just like last year.

Scouting Report
Potential

With more repetitions and effort, he'll be able to catch anything thrown in his direction. As he catches on to the nuances of the position, he'll consistently run beautiful routes. When he is able to translate his raw speed to the football field, he'll be a real burner. Sooner or later, the combination of speed and body control will make him a top runner at his position.

Scouting Report
Potential

With the hours he puts in on the practice field, he'll someday be outstanding at getting to the quarterback. This kid really seems to 'get it' and I believe he will become an awesome force against the run. Speed won't ever be outstanding but he should have enough to play the position. He'll develop some nice strength for his position and it will benefit his overall game.
