CL Best Hitter Trophy Goes to Rivera
Thursday, May 1st, 2081: José Rivera battered Continental League pitchers all April and wound up taking home the Batter of the Month Award.

"I've been around FOOL-X long enough to know you really have to work hard day in and day out to be able to put up this kind of consistency," the 30-year-old Rivera told reporters. "I put in a lot of work, even on the days I might not take the field, and it's always nice when everything comes together for me like it did this last month."

In 21 games, Rivera hit .313 with 8 home runs, 25 RBIs and scored 10 runs.




New York's Booker Chosen RL Batter of the Month
Thursday, May 1st, 2081: Seasoned by several years of professional experience, 28-year-old Ron Booker put together a solid offensive month for New York and was crowned April's top batter in the Republic League.

He batted .377 with 9 home runs, 25 RBIs and 16 runs scored.

CL's Top Pitcher in April Is Richter
Thursday, May 1st, 2081: In April, Larry Richter tore through the Continental League like a seasoned veteran -- quite impressive for a player only 24 years old.

The young Oshawa starter posted a 5-0 mark and an ERA of 0.84 to earn the Pitcher of the Month award. In 32.1 innings he collected 36 strikeouts while limiting the opposition to a .205 average.


RL Relief Ace Fitzpatrick Named Best Hurler
Thursday, May 1st, 2081: Jeremy Fitzpatrick has been around the league long enough to know that relievers are often overlooked. That has never stopped him from doing what he does best -- and he did it extremely well in April and stole away with the Republic League Pitcher of the Month award.

The Rattlers bullpen ace collected 6 saves and 12 strikeouts in 13 innings, holding the opposition to a .200 average and posting a 0.00 ERA and a 3-0 record.

Continental League Names Rookie of Month
Thursday, May 1st, 2081: A veritable toddler to the Continental League, Steve Middleton just sewed up the Rookie of the Month trophy for April.

Over the past month the 22-year-old right fielder for St Cloud hit .333 with 24 hits, 3 home runs and 10 RBI. He also logged 11 walks and compiled a .429 on-base percentage.


Kogawa Earns RL Rookie of Month
Thursday, May 1st, 2081: In April Ann Arbor catcher Hidekazu Kogawa was named Rookie of the Month in the Republic League.

Last month Kogawa posted a .390 average with 30 hits, no home runs and 11 RBIs.

Jones Takes CL's Best Bat Award
Sunday, June 1st, 2081: The premier hitter in the Continental League in May was Havana left fielder Reed Jones. For his standout play, he was voted the Batter of the Month.

Jones was selected after batting .305, hitting 9 home runs, scoring 23 runs and driving in 26.

Thus far in 2081 Jones is hitting .295 with 14 home runs, 40 RBIs, 33 runs scored and has compiled a .369 OBP.


Republic League Picks May's Best Batter
Sunday, June 1st, 2081: May's Batter of the Month has been chosen by the Republic League. This month's trophy was awarded to the New York left fielder, Ron Booker.

He starred by hitting .330 with a .381 on-base percentage, totaled 36 hits in 109 at-bats, 9 home runs, 19 RBIs and 23 runs scored.

Posting a .349 batting average to date, Booker has 18 home runs and 44 RBIs.

Moody Earns CL's Best Pitcher Honor
Sunday, June 1st, 2081: Mark Moody hasn't been around the big leagues long enough to know that youngsters shouldn't be winning Continental League Pitcher of the Month. But when you put up numbers like his, you're going to get some notice.

In May the London starter earned a 4-1 mark in 6 starts. He threw 36 innings, struck out 24 and compiled a solid 2.25 ERA.

This year Moody has gone 5-3 with an ERA of 3.02 and has 44 strikeouts in 59.2 innings.


Harada Gets RL #1 Pitcher Trophy
Sunday, June 1st, 2081: Despite the number of years he's been in the league, Ikemoto Harada still gets excited when he puts together a quality stretch like he had in May. The 30-year-old starter for Maricopa was named Republic League Pitcher of the Month earlier today.

He collected 4 wins and 1 loss with 31 strikeouts in his 6 starts, putting up a fine 2.68 ERA in 43.2 innings of work.

This year Harada has 4 wins and 4 losses and a 3.63 ERA.

CL Selects Rookie Star of the Month
Sunday, June 1st, 2081: Félix Gonzáles earned May's Rookie of the Month honors in the Continental League for last month's performance. The boyish Plantana left fielder might be wet behind the ears, but he's proving that he has what it takes to play at this level.

Gonzáles hit .359 with 2 home runs, 13 RBIs and 8 runs scored this past month on his way to winning the award.

So far this season Gonzáles has hit .328 with 3 home runs, 21 RBIs and and scored 12 times.


May's Best Rookie Named by RL
Sunday, June 1st, 2081: José Solís is still a bit shy, but then, who could blame the newest Republic League Rookie of the Month honoree? He hasn't been around the league long enough to fully know the ropes yet, despite the fact that he's putting up veteran-like numbers.

In May the Ann Arbor hitter tagged opposing pitching for a .226 average with 26 hits, 9 home runs and 25 RBIs.

Solís currently has a .235 batting average with 47 hits, 17 homers, 48 RBIs, 33 runs scored and a .282 OBP.

St Louis's Salamanca Snags June Batting Title
Tuesday, July 1st, 2081: St Louis shortstop Claudio Salamanca put the wraps on a fine June by capturing the Continental League Batter of the Month honors today.

He put up a .283 batting average and .361 on-base percentage last month while racking up 11 home runs, 23 RBIs, 20 runs scored and 13 walks.

This season Salamanca is hitting .276 with 81 hits, 15 home runs, 50 RBIs, scored 41 runs and played in 77 games.


June's Premier Batter Announced
Tuesday, July 1st, 2081: There's nothing like putting up good, solid numbers in the last year of your contract. Today Kai-xi Xú helped his contract negotiations by nabbing June's Republic League Batter of the Month honors.

The Waikiki left fielder put together a .326 batting average with 5 home runs, 26 RBIs and 22 runs scored.

Someone will surely be opening up the vault this offseason if Xú continues at this brisk pace.

This season in 73 games, Xú has hit at a .305 clip with 82 hits, 8 home runs, 48 RBIs and 37 runs scored.

Wiggins Wins Best CL Pitcher
Tuesday, July 1st, 2081: It was a very good month for Conrad Wiggins in June. The 35-year-old veteran starter for the Plantana Pirates outpitched everybody -- young and old -- to claim the Continental League Pitcher of the Month award earlier today.

Wiggins ran up a 4-0 record in his 6 starts during the month. In 39.2 innings he fanned 27 and recorded a 1.59 ERA.

To date this year in 16 starts, Wiggins has crafted a 8-5 mark with a 1.94 ERA.


Torres Acclaimed Top Pitcher in June
Tuesday, July 1st, 2081: Carlos Torres took home the Republic League Pitcher of the Month honors in June. After all these years playing ball, the 37-year-old veteran still enjoys the game as though he'd just broken camp for the first time a month ago. He's a bit older now with a few more aches and pains, but the old man has reason to celebrate, having gone 6-0 for New York last month and claiming the Pitcher of the Month award.

He tacked up a 1.98 ERA in his 6 starts, tossing 36.1 innings and striking out 27.

To date this season Torres is 11-5 with 18 starts and an ERA of 2.72 with 85 strikeouts in 106 innings.

CL Selects Rookie of the Month
Tuesday, July 1st, 2081: Steve Middleton was toddling around on his tricycle when some of the guys he's playing against were in their prime, but the 23-year-old right fielder definitely knows how to get to first, second or beyond. Today he was chosen June's Continental League Rookie of the Month for his remarkable month of hitting.

In 27 games Middleton batted .346 for St Cloud, slapping 36 hits in 104 at-bats with 6 home runs, drove in 23 runs and scored 17 times.

Currently Middleton is batting .329 with 11 home runs and 43 RBIs.


Spring Right Fielder Rated Best Rookie
Tuesday, July 1st, 2081: Dana Barrett's eyes seem to light up whenever he sees the baseball. The young Spring right fielder has been hitting everything in sight for the better part of a month.

In June he was voted the Rookie of the Month Award.

During the month he hit .338 with 3 doubles, no triples and 4 home runs. Barrett also scored 12 times and drove in 11 runs.

Barrett is currently batting .320 with 6 home runs and 25 RBIs.

Kono Wins Best Bat Award in July
Friday, August 1st, 2081: In July, Shinsui Kono let his bat do the talking for him. The Havana catcher smacked the ball at a .398 average as he laid claim to the Continental League Batter of the Month award.

He rapped 6 home runs, drove in 23 and scored 18 runs.

Kono is currently batting .280 with 19 home runs and 71 RBIs.


Kerfoot Takes RL's Best Bat Trophy
Friday, August 1st, 2081: Stan Kerfoot of the Legends hit .364 in July with 3 home runs, 18 RBIs and 18 runs scored to capture a majority of votes for the Republic League Batter of the Month trophy.

The 26-year-old is in the last year of his contract and will undoubtedly use these numbers to try and bring in a huge pay raise.

Thus far in 2081 Kerfoot is hitting .303 with 6 home runs, 52 RBIs, 56 runs scored and has compiled a .386 OBP.

Friday, August 1st, 2081: Junior Brown's been around the league long enough to appreciate the honor he received today. After going 4-0 in July, the 28-year-old Havana hurler has been named Continental League Pitcher of the Month.

He fanned 28 in 27.2 innings, logged an ERA of 1.63 and allowed opponents to hit .196 against him.

This year Brown has registered 10 wins and 3 losses in 20 starts with a 5.01 ERA while registering 93 strikeouts and 27 walks in 118.2 innings.


RL Top Pitcher Award for July to Bendiola
Friday, August 1st, 2081: Veteran Fernando Bendiola put together quite a successful stretch in July for the Maricopa Rattlers, earning himself the Republic League Pitcher of the Month award.

Bendiola racked up a 4-0 record in 5 starts, posting a 0.75 ERA over 36 innings and striking out 22.

On his stats sheet this season Bendiola shows a 8-6 record, 21 starts, 141 innings, 99 strikeouts and a 2.74 ERA.

July's Best Rookie Honored by CL
Friday, August 1st, 2081: Youngster Steve Middleton emerged as the latest Continental League Rookie of the Month today. The young man from St Cloud deserved the honor, batting .286 with 6 home runs and 19 RBI. Is the month of July a harbinger of things to come or just a fluke? We'll find out someday, but for now, we'll just let Middleton enjoy the limelight.

Posting a .318 batting average to date, Middleton has 17 home runs and 62 RBIs.


Ann Arbor First Baseman July's Premier Rookie
Friday, August 1st, 2081: What a fantastic July it was for José Solís! The Ann Arbor first baseman battered Republic League hurlers for a .224 batting average as he easily claimed the Rookie of the Month Award.

He tallied 5 home runs, 15 RBIs and 9 runs scored in the month-long assault. Solís also had 8 walks for a .278 on-base percentage.

If he continues to outpace the rookie class like this, he could very well be the 2081 Kien-lung Teng Award winner.

So far this season Solís has hit .224 with 27 home runs, 79 RBIs and and scored 51 times.

Okada Named CL Batter of the Month
Monday, September 1st, 2081: Motonobu Okada used that sweet swing with great success for London last month, garnering him the Continental League Batter of the Month award.

The 29-year-old center fielder put up a .342 batting average and collected 7 home runs, 22 RBIs and 19 runs scored.

This year Okada is batting .314 with 169 hits, 26 home runs, 97 RBIs, 42 walks, .363 OBP and has scored 85 runs.


August's Best RL Hitter is Gianpaolo Pacho
Monday, September 1st, 2081: The Republic League has made it official -- Gianpaolo Pacho is the winner of the Batter of the Month trophy.

In August, the New York second baseman starred with a .417 batting average, 4 home runs and 9 RBIs. Pacho also had 20 walks, posted a .512 on-base percentage and scored 25 times.

Pacho is swinging at a .329 pace on the year with 17 home runs, 48 RBIs and 88 runs scored. He has played in 131 games.

Plantana's Starter Receives CL Pitching Award
Monday, September 1st, 2081: The Continental League made it official today -- Alonso Ramos of the Plantana Pirates is the Pitcher of the Month. In August he impressed the sportswriters with his domination of league hitters.

Ramos made 6 starts, registered 4 wins and 1 loss with a solid 1.65 ERA. In 43.2 innings he allowed 33 hits, racked up 28 strikeouts, walked 5 and permitted teams to hit .212 against him.

Checking out his stats for the season, Ramos has racked up 9 wins and 12 losses in 26 starts, 3.51 ERA and struck out 121 batters in 154 innings.


Torres Wins RL Top Pitcher Award
Monday, September 1st, 2081: The Republic League announced today that Carlos Torres has been chosen the league's Pitcher of the Month. The New York starter had everything working for him last month as he glided to a 4-0 record.

In August Torres chalked up a 2.27 ERA in 43.2 innings with 30 strikeouts and 6 walks.

Torres has started 29 times this year, pitched 178.2 innings, fanned 144 batters and walked 23. His current record is 18 wins and 5 losses with a 2.42 ERA.

Rookie Right Fielder Honored by CL
Monday, September 1st, 2081: August was a very productive month for Steve Middleton. The right fielder for the St Cloud Raindrops was named the best newcomer in the Continental League.

He captured the honor by hitting .318 in 29 games with 34 hits, 5 home runs and 26 RBIs.

In 2081 Middleton has hit at a .318 clip with 153 hits, 22 home runs, 88 RBIs and has scored 71 times.


Best Republic League Newcomer Named
Monday, September 1st, 2081: It was an excellent month for Hidekazu Kogawa. He really swung into action! The catcher for the Ann Arbor Wolverines was named August's best newcomer in the Republic League.

He captured the honor by hitting .385 with 40 hits, 1 home run, 14 RBIs and 18 runs scored.

Looking at his season stats, Kogawa has compiled a .300 batting average and a .341 on-base percentage, while hitting 2 home runs and driving in 52 runs.

Salamanca Awarded September's CL Top Bat Prize
Wednesday, October 1st, 2081: The top hitter in the Continental League in September was St Louis shortstop Claudio Salamanca.

He was selected the Batter of the Month after batting .324, hitting 12 home runs, scoring 19 runs and driving in 26.

This year Salamanca has collected a .314 batting average to date with 188 hits in 598 at-bats, 113 RBIs, 35 home runs and scored 92 times. He has played in 157 games.


Super Month Nets De La Cruz #1 Batter Prize in RL
Wednesday, October 1st, 2081: Juan De La Cruz of the Cleveland Naps was named the Republic League's best batter for his fine performance in September.

He compiled a .400 batting average and .462 on-base percentage during the month. In 27 games he piled up 42 hits, 9 home runs, 33 RBIs and 14 runs scored.

This season De La Cruz is batting .307 with 27 home runs. His totals include 97 RBIs and 80 runs scored.

CL's Top Starter is Rodríguez
Wednesday, October 1st, 2081: When Juan Carlos Rodríguez takes the mound, a Havana victory is usually the result. At least that's the way it was in September.

He excelled with a 4-1 mark and a 2.92 ERA in 6 starts, tossed 40 innings, fanned 23 and held opposing batters to a .250 average.

That's why the Banana Sluggers starter was honored today as the Pitcher of the Month by the Continental League.

To this point in the season Rodríguez has 15 wins and 5 losses and a 3.83 ERA.


Cleveland's Walker Chosen September's Best in RL
Wednesday, October 1st, 2081: September's premier pitcher was Stephen Walker of Cleveland Naps. He pulverized Republic League hitters all month long and picked up the Pitcher of the Month award. The Naps star hurler fashioned a 4-0 en route to the honor.

He had 29 strikeouts in 42.2 innings and compiled a 2.74 ERA. Other clubs hit .231 against him.

To date this year Walker has compiled a 15-12 mark with a 3.56 ERA in 40 starts.

Hori Gets CL Rookie of Month Honors
Wednesday, October 1st, 2081: When you think of rookies, you think of men in their early to mid 20's. Despite the fact that Tsuramatsu Hori is 31, he made a big splash by putting up solid numbers to win Continental League Rookie of the Month honors.

He told BNN reporters at the press conference, "I'm thrilled beyond words. All I can say is... better late than never."

In September, the St Cloud third baseman hit .294 while rapping out 32 hits, 5 home runs, 22 RBIs and 13 runs scored.

This season Hori has hit 15 home runs and posted a .243 batting average.


Top Republic League Newcomer Named
Wednesday, October 1st, 2081: The top-ranked Republic League rookie in September was Spring's right fielder Dana Barrett.

Last month he played in 20 games and hit .370 with 7 doubles, no triples, and 2 home runs. Barrett also scored 10 times and drove in 10 runs.

So far this season Barrett has gotten 128 hits in 423 at-bats for a .303 batting average with 11 home runs. His stats include 54 RBIs and 53 runs scored. He has played in 120 games
