CL Best Hitter

April's outstanding offensive player in the Continental League has been picked and the honor goes to the London left fielder Danny Burnett.

He won the award by batting .409, hitting 4 home runs, knocking in 19 runs and scoring 20 times.

RL Best Hitter

Jake Wright battered Republic League pitchers all April and wound up taking home the Batter of the Month Award.

"I've been around FOOL-X long enough to know you really have to work hard day in and day out to be able to put up this kind of consistency," the 31-year-old Wright told reporters. "I put in a lot of work, even on the days I might not take the field, and it's always nice when everything comes together for me like it did this last month."

In 28 games, Wright hit .349 with 5 home runs, 27 RBIs and scored 19 runs.

CL Best Pitcher

It was a productive month of April for reliever Cipriano Villanuera. He put up some impressive figures with 12 saves in 12 save opportunities -- figures so impressive that the Continental League chose him as its Pitcher of the Month.

During the month, the Banana Sluggers bullpen specialist chalked up no wins and no losses while compiling a 1.29 ERA. In 14 innings Cipriano Villanuera yielded 3 base hits, struck out 0 and walked 3. Opposing batters hit .064 against him.

RL Best Pitcher

David Houston has been around the league long enough to know that relievers are often overlooked. That has never stopped him from doing what he does best -- and he did it extremely well in April and stole away with the Republic League Pitcher of the Month award.

The bullpen ace collected 13 saves and 12 strikeouts in 14 innings, holding the opposition to a .174 average and posting a 0.64 ERA and a 0-0 record.

CL Best Rookie

Hi-yuan Meng was toddling around on his tricycle when some of the guys he's playing against were in their prime, but the 25-year-old third baseman definitely knows how to get to first, second or beyond. Today he was chosen April's Continental League Rookie of the Month for his remarkable month of hitting.

In 27 games Meng batted .318 for St Cloud, slapping 27 hits in 85 at-bats with 5 home runs, drove in 16 runs and scored 16 times.

RL Best Rookie

Youngster António Maldonado emerged as the latest Republic League Rookie of the Month today. The young man from Maricopa deserved the honor, batting .348 with no home runs and 7 runs batted in. Is the month of April a harbinger of things to come or just a fluke? We'll find out someday, but for now, we'll just let Maldonado enjoy the limelight.

López Earns May's Top Batter Prize in CL
Saturday, June 1st, 2075: The Continental League Batter of the Month has been chosen for May and the trophy was presented to Eduardo López of the St Louis Hops.

He stood out this month with a .364 batting average, 32 hits and 5 home runs, along with 12 RBIs and 21 runs scored.

In 53 games López is hitting .298 this season with 54 hits, 6 home runs, 22 RBIs, 30 walks, .396 OBP and has scored 33 runs.

May's RL Batter of Month Award Announced
Saturday, June 1st, 2075: Nobody was better with the bat in May!
Matias Pilon caught everyone's attention with some hot hitting and today he came away with the Batter of the Month award.

Ann Arbor's right fielder put together a solid month with a .358 batting average, 5 home runs, 26 RBIs and 17 runs scored.

For the year Pilon has hit .338 with 9 home runs, 41 RBIs and scored 38 runs.

CL Selects Hubbard May's Best Pitcher
Saturday, June 1st, 2075: Ray Hubbard took a much-deserved turn in the spotlight earlier today as he accepted the Continental League Pitcher of the Month award for May.

The 26-year-old Freedom starter is a relative newcomer to the league, but nonetheless racked up an impressive 4-0 won-lost record in 5 starts. This month he fanned 40 batters in 31.2 innings and compiled a 1.14 ERA.

This season in 11 starts Ray Hubbard has a record of 8-0 with 76 strikeouts in 68.1 innings and a 1.84 ERA.

May's Best RL Hurler is Houston
Saturday, June 1st, 2075: David Houston was the anchor in the Maricopa bullpen last month and snatched up the Republic League Pitcher of the Month honors for May. The 31-year-old is in the prime of his career and pitching like he intends to stay around baseball for quite some time to come.

He threw 21 innings over 17 relief appearances and collected a 4-2 record with 21 strikeouts and 4 saves while etching his 1.71 ERA.

Season-to-date Houston has 17 saves in 32 relief appearances with a 4-2 mark and 1.29 ERA.

May's #1 Rookie Named by CL
Saturday, June 1st, 2075: Marcos Nájera earned top rookie honors in the Continental League with a solid performance last month.

In May the Plantana first baseman posted a .266 average while racking up 25 hits, 3 home runs and 11 RBIs.

Thus far this season in 53 games Nájera is batting .278 with 8 home runs, 27 RBIs and 26 runs scored. He has 55 hits in 198 at-bats.

Chin Voted RL's #1 Rookie
Saturday, June 1st, 2075: Hyun-seung Chin's eyes seem to light up whenever he sees the baseball. The young Portland first baseman has been hitting everything in sight for the better part of a month.

In May he was voted the Rookie of the Month Award.

During the month he hit .284 with 2 doubles, no triples and 7 home runs. Chin also scored 12 times and drove in 25 runs.

Chin is presently hitting at a .253 pace with 12 home runs and 39 RBIs. He has played in 50 games and scored 23 times.

Pedro Vélez Winner in June
Monday, July 1st, 2075: Free agent-to-be Pedro Vélez has inflated his asking price over the past 30 days by winning the Continental League Batter of the Month.

In June, the 33-year-old Havana first baseman hit .360 with 7 home runs and 27 RBIs.

If he keeps putting numbers like that up, he could be hauling in a big wad of cash at this time next year.

Vélez has collected 109 hits for the Banana Sluggers this year, 16 of them home runs. He has also netted 67 RBIs and scored 51 runs while batting .348.

Wright Brings Home RL Batter of Month Honor
Monday, July 1st, 2075: When guys like New York's Jake Wright win Batter of the Month awards, it just makes you feel good. In a productive June, the longtime Republic League veteran toyed with opposing pitchers all month long, collecting 32 hits in 112 at-bats.

The veteran designated hitter hit for a .286 batting average and collected 11 home runs, 29 RBIs and 29 runs scored.

Wright is hitting .329 this season with 21 home runs, 68 RBIs and 70 runs scored. He has 106 hits in 322 at-bats.

CL Top Pitcher Award for June to Wiggins
Monday, July 1st, 2075: Despite the number of years he's been in the league, Conrad Wiggins still gets excited when he puts together a quality stretch like he had in June. The 29-year-old starter for St Cloud was named Continental League Pitcher of the Month earlier today.

He collected 4 wins and no losses with 48 strikeouts in his 6 starts, putting up a fine 1.71 ERA in 42 innings of work.

In 17 starts this year Wiggins has fashioned a 9-3 record and a 2.43 ERA.

Lions Starter Named June's Premier Pitcher
Monday, July 1st, 2075: The top-rated pitcher this past month in the Republic League was Aurelio López of the Spring Lions. He really dominated league hitters, finishing June with a 4-0 won-lost mark and a 0.95 ERA.

The Lions ace made 5 starts and surrendered 16 hits in 28.1 innings. He struck out 27 and walked 7.

This year López has fanned 93 in 93.2 innings and collected a 9-2 record with a 2.50 ERA.

Fuentes Wins CL Rookie Award
Monday, July 1st, 2075: Oshawa's Alejandro Fuentes collected 25 hits to snare the Continental League Rookie of the Month for June.

He batted .316 with no home runs, 8 RBIs and 8 runs scored.

The 20-year-old is barely old enough to shave, but he could definitely contend for Rookie of the Year if he keeps up this pace.

Presently Fuentes is batting .256 with no home runs and 18 RBIs. He has played in 70 games and scored 18 times.

RL Selects Rookie Star of the Month
Monday, July 1st, 2075: Hyun-seung Chin is still a bit shy, but then, who could blame the newest Republic League Rookie of the Month honoree? He hasn't been around the league long enough to fully know the ropes yet, despite the fact that he's putting up veteran-like numbers.

In June the Portland hitter tagged opposing pitching for a .303 average with 33 hits, 4 home runs and 22 RBIs.

Currently Chin has 16 home runs and a .271 batting average.

Pedro Vélez is July's #1 Hitter in CL
Thursday, August 1st, 2075: In the last year of his deal with Havana, Pedro Vélez has created some waves by winning July's Continental League Batter of the Month title today.

He put up a solid .340 batting average with 9 home runs, 17 RBIs and 22 runs scored. He also worked CL pitchers for 11 walks and a .413 on-base percentage.

If he keeps churning out numbers like these, the 33-year-old is sure to draw some attention, when contract time rolls around.

The talented Raindrops hurler made 0 starts, worked 14 innings, permitted 10 base hits, and struck out 9 while putting up a 2.57 ERA.

This season to date Cashman has a record of 12 wins and no losses with a 2.25 ERA, has appeared in 55 games and struck out 66 in 60 innings.

RL Selects Kouyama July's Best Starter
Thursday, August 1st, 2075: The Ann Arbor Wolverines celebrated today after the news filtered through the clubhouse that Masuhiro Kouyama had been selected as July's Republic League Pitcher of the Month. Kouyama's zest for the game has been a frequent topic on the sports pages and his numbers of late have made his fans even more enthusiastic.

"Our coaching staff really helps me prepare well," Kouyama said, "and the fans feed off good pitching. Your pitches just seem to have that extra pop to them when the fans are behind you and you feel confident you can get outs."

Kouyama tossed 38 innings last month, holding opponents to a .250 average while striking out 24 batters. In 5 starting assignments he came away with a 4-0 record, putting together an ERA of 1.89.

Checking out his stats for the season, Kouyama has notched 9 wins and 9 losses in 22 starts, 3.22 ERA and struck out 92 batters in 148.1 innings.

Sunday, September 1st, 2075: Prospective free agents love to have hot streaks and Bill Davis is no exception. The St Louis first baseman capped off a fine month by hauling in Batter of the Month honors in the Continental League.

In August Davis hit .400 with 8 home runs, 25 RBIs and 18 runs scored.

Currently Davis is batting .311 with 17 home runs and 82 RBIs.

Wright Takes Home RL Top Batter Award
Sunday, September 1st, 2075: Though his face is weathered and his hands are calloused, Jake Wright can still get it done in FOOL-X. In fact, the 31-year-old right fielder for New York was named the Republic League Batter of the Month today after putting up an impressive performance at the plate.

In August he batted .302 with 8 home runs, 26 RBIs and 23 runs scored.

Sunday, September 1st, 2075: The Washington Freedom felt very secure when they sent Harrie Beyen out to the hill last month. The 25-year-old starter went after Continental League hitters with a vengeance and earned August's Pitcher of the Month award.

He went 4-0 with a 1.11 ERA as he struck out 37 in 40.2 innings over 6 starts.

This season Beyen has 13 wins and 8 losses and a 2.60 ERA.

Chapman Earns RL Top Pitcher Trophy
Sunday, September 1st, 2075: Nelson Chapman hated to see August turn to September.
And who could blame him?
The 25-year-old hurler piled up 5 wins and no losses for the Wolverines last month and won the Republic League Pitcher of the Month award for his efforts.

Chapman stymied opposing batters on 39 base hits and a .258 batting average. He rang up 32 strikeouts in 38.2 innings of work, surrendered 5 walks and fashioned a sparkling 1.86 ERA.

To date this season Chapman has compiled a 12-10 record with a 3.51 ERA in 27 starts.

Sunday, September 1st, 2075: Marcos Nájera certainly made his presence felt in the Continental League in August. The gifted first baseman for Plantana ripped opposing pitchers for a .294 batting average and was the top votegetter for the Rookie of the Month trophy.

He won it by going 30-102 in 27 games with 5 home runs, 20 RBIs and 16 runs scored.

This season in 132 games, Nájera has hit at a .254 clip with 124 hits, 18 home runs, 68 RBIs and 59 runs scored.

Sunday, September 1st, 2075: Hyun-seung Chin earned August's Rookie of the Month honors in the Republic League for last month's performance. The boyish Portland first baseman might be wet behind the ears, but he's proving that he has what it takes to play at this level.
