CL's Top Hitter Selected
Friday, May 1st, 2139: Ken Simpson battered Continental League pitchers all April and wound up taking home the Batter of the Month Award.

"I've been around Front Office Offseason League long enough to know you really have to work hard day in and day out to be able to put up this kind of consistency," the 29-year-old Simpson told reporters. "I put in a lot of work, even on the days I might not take the field, and it's always nice when everything comes together for me like it did this last month."

In 27 games, Simpson hit .306 with 10 home runs, 30 RBIs and scored 18 runs.

RL's Top Hitter Announced
Friday, May 1st, 2139: A hot-hitting Toshikazu Noda punished RL pitchers in April, hitting .389 in 27 games while racking up 6 home runs, 29 RBIs and 22 runs scored.

With those numbers it came as no surprise that Hartford's 28-year-old right fielder earned Republic League Batter of the Month honors.

Continental League Announces #1 Starter
Friday, May 1st, 2139: In April, Miguel Guerra tore through the Continental League like a seasoned veteran -- quite impressive for a player only 24 years old.

The young Apex starter posted a 4-1 mark and an ERA of 2.34 to earn the Pitcher of the Month award. In 34.2 innings he collected 36 strikeouts while limiting the opposition to a .206 average.

Bruins Hurler Named RL's Best Starter
Friday, May 1st, 2139: Despite the number of years he's been in the league, Harold Smith still gets excited when he puts together a quality stretch like he had in April. The 28-year-old starter for Los Angeles was named Republic League Pitcher of the Month earlier today.

He collected 3 wins and no losses with 33 strikeouts in his 5 starts, putting up a fine 1.36 ERA in 39.2 innings of work.

Continental League Names Rookie of Month
Friday, May 1st, 2139: Youngster Pung-cho Kim emerged as the latest Continental League Rookie of the Month today. The young man from Noblesville deserved the honor, batting .375 with 1 home run and 8 RBI. Is the month of April a harbinger of things to come or just a fluke? We'll find out someday, but for now, we'll just let Kim enjoy the limelight.

RL Selects Rookie Star of the Month
Friday, May 1st, 2139: Harry Thorne's eyes seem to light up whenever he sees the baseball. The young Chico left fielder has been hitting everything in sight for the better part of a month.

In April he was voted the Rookie of the Month Award.

During the month he hit .318 with 2 doubles, no triples and 8 home runs. Thorne also scored 22 times and drove in 15 runs.

Chikafuji Wins CL Prize, Named Best Hitter in May
Monday, June 1st, 2139: Seasoned by several years of professional experience, 33-year-old Yoritoki Chikafuji put together a solid offensive month for Brooklyn and was crowned May's top batter in the Continental League.

He batted .288 with 5 home runs, 16 RBIs and 26 runs scored.



To date this season Chikafuji is hitting .280 with 7 home runs.

Toronto's Hutchinson Snags May Batting Title
Monday, June 1st, 2139: The hard-hitting right fielder from Toronto, Nathan Hutchinson, wielded a big bat in May and was hailed as the Republic League Batter of the Month.

He hit a healthy .294 with 6 home runs, 23 RBIs and 22 runs scored.

Hutchinson is swinging at a .301 pace on the year with 8 home runs, 38 RBIs and 35 runs scored. He has played in 54 games.

Archuleta Nets CL #1 Pitcher Award
Monday, June 1st, 2139: When Halifax reliever Daniel Archuleta strolled in from the bullpen in May, it did not bode well for the opposing team. He usually put a quick end to any budding rally. For his excellent mound work he was named the Continental League Pitcher of the Month.

The Winter Wolves reliever had no saves for the month with a 4-0 record and 0.98 ERA. He made no relief appearances, hurled 36.2 innings, yielded 23 hits, fanned 28 and walked 8.

This season Archuleta has no saves. In no relief appearances he has tossed 63 innings, struck out 49 and issued 15 walks with a 6-1 record. The Halifax reliever has recorded a 2.57 ERA and allowed the opposition to hit .242 when he is in the game.

RL Honors May's #1 Pitcher
Monday, June 1st, 2139: Roberto Guerra's been around the league long enough to appreciate the honor he received today. After going 5-0 in May, the 27-year-old Colorado hurler has been named Republic League Pitcher of the Month.

He fanned 18 in 43 innings, logged an ERA of 3.14 and allowed opponents to hit .258 against him.

This season Guerra has a 6-1 record with a 3.44 ERA in 10 starts.

First-Year Fame: Apex Hurler Honored
Monday, June 1st, 2139: Héctor Guerrero is beginning to make a name for himself and he did it by posting a 4-0 record and a 2.12 ERA in May. For his spectacular mound performance last month he has been named BNN's Rookie of the Month in the Continental League.

The 20-year-old newcomer isn't at all intimidated by his lack of experience, at least not outwardly. In fact, by the way he has pitched beyond his years, you could easily mistake him for a veteran.

In 5 starts for the Assassins Guerrero has struck out 33 batters in 34 innings, holding opposing hitters to a batting average of .240 during his hot streak.

Cappelletti Gets RL Rookie of Month Honors
Monday, June 1st, 2139: A veritable toddler to the Republic League, Napoleon Cappelletti just sewed up the Rookie of the Month trophy for May.

Over the past month the 22-year-old right fielder for Toronto hit .341 with 30 hits, 4 home runs and 10 runs batted in. He also logged 4 walks and compiled a .370 on-base percentage.

This year Cappelletti is hitting .333 with 11 home runs and 31 RBIs in 43 games played. He also boasts an OBP of .382 with 13 walks and 25 runs scored.

This season Guerrero has compiled a 5-3 mark, 2.91 ERA and made 10 starts.

CL Best Hitter Trophy Goes to Solano
Wednesday, July 1st, 2139: Juan Solano of the Tokyo Cyclones had a field day with Continental League pitchers last month and was crowned the Batter of the Month as a result.

During June he compiled a .319 batting average, drove in 22 runs and scored 22 times. He also managed to pick up 14 walks to post a .398 on-base percentage.

So far this season, Solano has recorded a .265 batting average with 83 hits, 10 home runs, 38 RBIs, 56 runs scored and a .355 OBP.

RL's Best Batter Announced
Wednesday, July 1st, 2139: In June, Ann Arbor Winged Lingerines second baseman Rob Duncan claimed the Republic League Batter of the Month award.

The 28-year-old swung with confidence, hitting .468 with 10 home runs, 21 RBIs and 21 runs scored.

So far this year in 76 games Duncan is hitting .323 with 23 home runs, 55 RBIs and 51 runs scored.

Torres CL's #1 Pitcher in June
Wednesday, July 1st, 2139: The Pitcher of the Month Award has been chosen and the Continental League winner is Brooklyn bullpen specialist, Félix Torres. For his excellent work in June he has been named the league's best pitcher.

During the month, he excelled with 8 saves in 9 save opportunities, a 0.84 ERA and 1 win and no losses. In 10.2 innings Torres struck out 17 and gave up 5 hits and 4 walks.

For the year Torres has 20 saves. In 38 relief appearances he has hurled 37 innings, fanned 47 and issued 8 walks with a 3-4 record. The Brooklyn reliever has recorded a 2.92 ERA and allowed the opposition to hit .259 when he is on the hill.

RL Selects Sánchez June's Best Starter
Wednesday, July 1st, 2139: Veteran Paco Sánchez put together quite a successful stretch in June for the Hartford Harpooners, earning himself the Republic League Pitcher of the Month award.

Sánchez racked up a 4-1 record in 5 starts, posting a 2.01 ERA over 40.1 innings and striking out 29.

In 16 starts this year Sánchez has crafted a 9-4 record and a 3.28 ERA.

Tokyo Rookie Reels in Reward in June
Wednesday, July 1st, 2139: Jody Swift was toddling around on his tricycle when some of the guys he's playing against were in their prime, but the 21-year-old catcher definitely knows how to get to first, second or beyond. Today he was chosen June's Continental League Rookie of the Month for his remarkable month of hitting.

In 21 games Swift batted .313 for Tokyo, slapping 21 hits in 67 at-bats with 2 home runs, drove in 9 runs and scored 10 times.

Swift is hitting .317 in 2139 with 21 RBIs and 5 home runs.

Wednesday, July 1st, 2139: Juan Soto is still a bit shy, but then, who could blame the newest Republic League Rookie of the Month honoree? He hasn't been around the league long enough to fully know the ropes yet, despite the fact that he's putting up veteran-like numbers.

In June the Hammersmith hitter tagged opposing pitching for a .262 average with 22 hits, 4 home runs and 17 RBIs.

This season Soto is swinging the bat at a .293 pace. He has hit 12 home runs and scored 42 times, while driving in 38. His on-base percentage is .383 and he has played in 74

Popoca Takes Home CL Top Batter Award
Saturday, August 1st, 2139: Juan Popoca earned July's Batter of the Month honors in the Continental League by reeling off a .422 average, going 38 for 90 with 6 home runs, 15 RBIs and 17 runs scored.

The soon-to-be free agent was hitting with great urgency in an effort to bolster his asking price in the Halifax clubhouse and around the rest of the league.

In 97 games this season Popoca is batting .323 with 125 hits and 18 home runs. He has scored 58 runs and driven in 48.

Olivares Captures RL Batter of Month Award
Saturday, August 1st, 2139: In the last year of his deal with Los Angeles, Francisco Olivares has created some waves by winning July's Republic League Batter of the Month title today.

He put up a solid .402 batting average with 6 home runs, 22 RBIs and 15 runs scored. He also worked RL pitchers for 6 walks and a .433 on-base percentage.

If he keeps churning out numbers like these, the 31-year-old is sure to draw some attention, when contract time rolls around.

So far in 2139 Olivares is batting .333 with 25 home runs, 70 RBIs and 65 runs scored. He has 135 hits in 405 at-bats and a .371 OBP.

Saturday, August 1st, 2139: For a young man just making his way into the Continental League, Earl Harris has shown incredible poise and confidence over the past month, netting him the coveted Rookie of the Month Award.

In July he fashioned a 3-1 mark and a 2.05 ERA. The Brooklyn starter struck out 19 in 30.2 innings as he walked 8 and held opposing batters to a .243 average.

This season Harris has registered 5 wins and 10 losses in 20 starts with a 5.24 ERA.

Hammersmith Newcomer July's Best Rookie
Saturday, August 1st, 2139: Garrett Lawson earned July's Rookie of the Month honors in the Republic League for last month's performance. The boyish Hammersmith second baseman might be wet behind the ears, but he's proving that he has what it takes to play at this level.

Lawson hit .269 with 4 home runs, 14 RBIs and 19 runs scored this past month on his way to winning the award.

So far this year Lawson has hit .254 with 10 home runs, 48 RBIs and 62 runs scored.

Tuesday, September 1st, 2139: Noblesville's Víctor Morales wowed sportswriters in August with an award-winning performance. For his standout play he was voted the Continental League Batter of the Month.

Continental League Names #1 Pitcher in August
Tuesday, September 1st, 2139: What Matt Adams of the Napa Valley Winemakers did to Continental League hitters in August was criminal. He assaulted them, broke them and walked off leaving them lifeless and lost as he stole away with the Pitcher of the Month award for his barbaric behavior.

"Adams was truly dominant out there," an opposing hitter said to reporters. "He really made hitters miserable."

The 25-year-old reliever threw 22.1 innings in 18 relief appearances as he registered 7 saves, 21 strikeouts, and notched a 2-0 record and 0.00 ERA for the month.

This year Adams has collected 21 saves in 67 relief appearances. He has also compiled a 6-6 won-lost mark with a 2.11 ERA and fanned 79 batters in 81 innings. Opponents are hitting him at a .212 clip in 2139.

Yoritomo Sumita caught everyone's attention with some hot hitting and today he came away with the Batter of the Month award.
