Second Worst Dynasty Ever - An FM 2010 Dynasty (Retired, FM 11 dynasty coming soon)

After finally deciding that the 2009 dynasty could no longer continue have decided to try a new dynasty using FM 2010 (I find it hard going back to the 2009 game after playing 2010).

So while others move on to 2011 I will start up a 2010 dynasty.

Background

I will be taking over Burton who are currently in the Coca Cola League 2. They are predicted to be relegated this season so I will have my work cut out for me.

The reason that I chose Burton is two-fold. It will be a bit of a challenge and success will not likely be immediate. This gives me room to improve and also room to fail (I wanted to be able to go in either direction). The second reason is that this team has one of my favorite players from the 2009 game (I know little about him in real life); striker Shaun Harrad. In my previous dynasty he put up monster numbers for Burton. I considered it a victory when I kept him off the score sheet when we would play them. It got to the point where it actually cost me my first job when I tried to get the club I was on to sign him.

This will be a slow paced dynasty (as I am balancing a few with the fighting dynasty and the NFL world cup extremely slow dynasty). Additionally my availability changes frequently.

Hopefully I can keep interest up while running this dynasty.

Team Background

Founded: 1950
Finances: Okay
Fierce Rival: None
Rivals: Knotts County, Derby, Accrington, Port Vale
Value: 1.6 Million
2009 Result: Won Blue Square Premier (promoted to CC L1)
Highest Position: Current

Burton Roster

GK Artur Krysiak (19, Poland) - On Loan from Birmingham. Very good in the air and has good reflexes. Easily the best keeper on the squad.

GK John Lowe (16, England) - Solid in the air. Needs to improve to have a chance to be the future keeper for the club.

GK Kevin Poole (45, England) - Solid all around but his best years are well behind him. The old man of the squad. Has played 117 games with Burton over the last 3 seasons. 434 games played in his career.

D RC Ryan Austin (24, England) - Good in the air, solid at marking and tackling and strong. Plays better as center defender.

D RL Richard Jackson (29, England) - Good team player but no other real strengths. Projected to split playing time on the right side.

D LC Gary Butterfield (16, England) - Good team player, quick and has great stamina. Needs to improve in his decision making if he wants to make the big club.

D LC Tom Parkes (17, England) - On Loan from Leicester. Solid central defender.

D LC Aaron Webster (28, England) - Very athletic, all-around player. Has been with Burton for 8 years an has played 286 games with 44 goals scored.

D C Tony James (30, Wales) - Very good marking and in the air. Entering his third season with the squad.

D/WB L Paul Boertien (30, England) - Skillful player but lacks speed. His first season with the squad, signed as a free transfer.

D/M R Andrew Corbett (27, England) - Good team player and adds depth but no real outstanding skills. Will get his share of playing time but we may be in trouble if we have to rely on him as a regular.

DM, M C John McGrath (29, Ireland) - Probably our best central midfielder. Solid all-around player. Entering his third season with the club.

M RLC Russ Penn (23, England) - Very fit team player. Looks to be the second best central midfielder on the club. Entering his first season with the club.

M L Terry Mullarkey (16, England) - Quick but has a very long way to go if he wants to make it to the big club and contribute.

M C Michael Simpson (35, England) - Team player with skill but lacks speed. Should see plenty of playing time. Entering his third season with the squad. Has played 517 matches in his career.

AM RL Jimmy Phillips (19, England) - Good team player and looks like he has a chance to develop into a serious threat. Projected as th highest valued player on the squad.

AM R Cleveland Taylor (25, England) - On Loan from Brentford. Quick, good dribbler with plenty of flair.

AM L Keith Gilroy (25, Ireland) - Skillful and should get plenty of playing time. Good at dribbling, passing and crossing. Entering his 5th season with the squad.

AM LC Jacques Maghoma (21, England) - Quick but no real strengths or weaknesses. Should see plenty of time.

AM/F C Greg Pearson (24, England) - Fast paced and quick with lots of flair. Poor decision making sometimes. Entering his second season with the squad. Scored 18 goals for Burton last season and has scored 44 goals in the last two seasons.

ST Shaun Harrad (24, England) - Good team player. Entering his 6th season with the squad. Has scored 32 goals over the last two seasons in 55 games.

ST Steve Kabba (28, England) - On loan from Brentford. Very quick and solid all-around player. Should see plenty of playing time.

ST Richard Walker (31, England) - Good in the air and may be the best penalty taker on the squad. Adds to a very deep group of forwards. First season with the squad. Has 78 career goals in 303 matches.

It looks like I am going to have a very deep group of forwards to select from, which may tempt me to change to a 3 forward formation... it definitely gives me the chance to do so if we are in need of a goal.

DL - Boertien
DC - Webster
DC - Parkes
DR - Jackson
ML - Gilroy
MC - McGrath
MC - Penn
MR - Taylor
ST - Kabba
ST - Pearson

The remainder of the squad are eligible subs.

1st half
- We look extremely rusty. Not one player impressed me in that half as the half ends scoreless.

2nd half
- Poole in for Krysiak at keeper to start the second half.
- Maghoma infor McGrath at center midfield to start the second half.
- Phillips in for Taylor at right midfield to start the second half.
- Mullarkey in for Gilroy at left midfield to start the second half.
- Simpson in for Penn at center midfield to start the second half.
- Austin in for Jackson at right defender to start the second half.
- James in for Webster at center defender to start the second half.
- Harrad in for Pearson at striker to start the second half.
- Butterfield in for Parkes at center defender to start the second half.
- Walker in for Kabba at striker to start the second half.
- In the 69th minute Harrad finds James in the box with a corner kick; James turns quickly and fires into the right corner of the goal to give us a 1-0 lead. We have controlled this half much better and it seemed to be a mtter of time befre we finally broke deadlock.
- We hang on for the 1-0 victory but we did not look good.

Man of the Match: Reserve keeper Jon Hurst is named the man of the match

Entering into negotiation with Cheltenham for 27 year old defender Shane Duff. We have gone back and forth a few times but have not gotten close yet. He would make a great addition to our team but they are asking well above his value; which is also above our team budget.

We have to delay our Duff deal for a week to attempt to get the funds together. This is on me as I thought I could get this through.

This dynasty is about to be retired. I now have FM 11 and will be starting a dynasty using that version at smoe point over the next couple weeks.

Any suggestions for a good team/league to try?

How about a 2nd division team in a top four team with lots of money, but not much talent, so we can see you build the talent?

I have always liked how the English leagues are setup (with the promotion/relegation). Do other countries use the same approach as well (I know MLS doesn't)?

I like this suggestion, just a matter of finding the right team. I generally like going with a 2nd division (or lower) team so that there is room to gain promotion or have to avoid relegation.

Here's a thought.. if you use my USA edit (I can give you a link in a lil bit)

Look at Boston Athletic in the Challenge Division... well if you can get past using a Boston team

Don't tell anyone but I like the Red Sox so I can get past that. If you said it was a New York team, that would be different.
