I take exception with Twisted sister and Mighty Mighty Bosstones being labeled one hit wonders.

Twisted Sister has a couple well know songs and the Bosstones have been successful for over 2 decades in their genre.

I agree Lathum.

This was by far the toughest bracket so far.

GO HOT ROD LINCOLN

Some brutal matchups in this pod. I'd Love to Change the World is a personal favorite of mine.

Yeah, TS had 3 other singles (I Wanna Rock, The Price and Leader of the Pack) that charted, but We're not Gonna Take it was so iconic it kind of drowns those out I guess.

I always think a group/singer whose only hit is a cover of someone else's better and more famous song...is just lame and disqualified from any fame and glory for their song.

I actually thought this Baby I Love YOur Way version was the Will To Power version from 1987....yes their name was will to power and they combined Baby I love your way with Freebird. :P

Neither version is better than frampton's

Actually, the other two songs you mentioned didn't chart in the top 40, which was the definition of a second "hit"...which is why this song wasn't removed when I culled out the songs that didn't meet the definition of OHW.

Sixpence is probably out first round, which saddens me, because I love that song.

This one is closed...

Thoughts:

Right Said Fred vs Big Mountain - Similar to Macarena, I thought Too Sexy would lose in round 1 simply due to people hating it, but it eeked it out by 1 vote. I think it'll have a harder road in round 2.

Mighty Mighty Bosstones vs Michael Sembello - tough match up in round 1...and the victory was just 4 votes. Felt this would be tight due to comments about Maniac in the original OHW thread...

Semisonic vs Ten Years After - I'd Love to Change the World is an iconic song, and I expected it would have solid support, but Semisonic destroying it in this pairing sends a pretty loud message...

Iron Butterfly vs Sniff'n the Tears - another interesting one...Drivers Seat isn't a bad song, and while In a Gadda Da Vita is a classic it's also a bit of an acquired taste, especially if you don't get the shortened radio edit version. I expected a tight race here, but I was WAY off...not sure if Iron Butterfly is that popular or if Sniff'n the Tears is just not popular at all.

Bobby McFerrin vs Commander Cody - Hot Rod Lincoln had almost no shot...though 13 votes is very respectable.

Oleta Adams vs Nu Shooz - - very little interest in this pairing from voters...so don't expect Shooz to hang around long.

Twisted Sister vs Rick Derringer - two rock songs, and TS wins easily...could be a sign of things to come.

Vangelis vs Sixpence None the Richer - I'm a big fan of Kiss Me, and was hoping it could win a tough match up, but the iconic Chariots of Fire won out in a close pairing. If only Kiss Me had been in the pairing two up...

yes i'm too sexy was annoying mainly because of all the old people that went around quoting it and thinking they were funny.

But when it comes down to it, it is catchy as hell with several great hooks...the bass voice, the infectious piano, the horns, the electropop dance beat...and of course the novelty of not only a song about models but one sung by two of the ugliest mothertruckers around who really knew they were making fun of everything by singing it.

I realize Bosstones is like catchy and hooky and a good fad band...i just never liked the song that much especially compared to sambello. Despite hating most things about flashdance.

Closing time is just a big a song for its time as I'd love to change the world. IT's a pity these two met in the first round.

Iron Butterfly is a solid song a prelude to metal.

Mcferrin i kind of expected people to bury this because of how annoyingly catchy it is. I will never get this song out of my head. It wqas playing on the radio when i went to my first concert....and it played at least 20 times.

Nu Shooz was a classic 80s song. I really love it no matter how fake all the instruments sound
that's R&B for ya

Rik Derringer is cheap crap classic rock especially compared to Dee

The last grouping...who cares really.
