Who do I extend?

Not QB Ferguson, OC Macias, TE Preston, OG Shelby, several backups.

I do sign some backups

I hold off on the 55 mill 4 years Grembowski would cost and instead I will franchise him next year for a year while I try to find another good D back.

Any good 2 years left? RB Londesbrough has dropped to 67/67 and wants 134 mill over 5 years which I do. I extend OT Bennett for 4 years and 56 mill. Ditto FS Ferguson for 49 mill 4 years

Wanna see my top two choices?

Your wish is my command!

Here is Watson

This is the well rounded Watson, and you can see that he has no real weaknesses nor is he poor at anything save kick returns. Good stuff rookie!

Here’s my 2.1 pickup TE Moy. He’s my first stud level TE that’s not a FB I converted. You can see him here and he’s good at run B and blocking str, and he’s fine at the catching. Good stuff!

Green Page? We have Watson, Westbrook, and Kennedy on the Green Page.

Rookie Investigation

This was a one QB draft with 1 QB of 22/70, another at 29/56 and then the next is down to 45 pot. Nasty.

At WR we had the best player with Watson. Gamez was right behind him with 56/77, and a 3rd WR came in 45/67 and a 4th 54/64, so there were 4 solid WRs in the draft and we could have gone Gamez and we wouldn’t have been disappointed. Wanna know something cool? If Watson hits 80, then he’ll be the best WR in the league. Gamez will be 2nd best. Prior to this the best WR in the league were in the low 70s. it reminds me of Kirk Barber and his QB both of whom were the best in the league with the Jets.

This was not good for Rb as the best was 61 pot

At TE, remember the other person at 2.1 that hadn’t been taken along with Moy, Trabash? He also finished with the 71 pot, so they were equal. He was grabbed by the Browns at 2.4.

Without the boom I expected, OC Bissett finished 5th best.

At OG, we had 3 studs of 70+ and 4 of 60+

This was a one OT draft with a 72 pot and then the next was 53

My K was the best in the draft

DT Kennedy is the best in the draft

RJ Woodson is 8th best LB in the draft

Westbrook is the 2nd best d back in the draft

Good stuff!

The 2058 NFL Regular Season

This year I still think we’ll be a little slower and get a record I haven’t gotten yet in this campaign. What is it? 8-8. I know that’s an odd prediction since I haven’t had it in decades of play, but that’s my best guess. With our bad first draft and UFAas busts all over Monday, and a sophomore very green QB in year 2 only having a 41 current ability, I don’t think we’ll be blowing up the leader board. We are also in the rough NFC North and that will lose us a game or two we might win in our first winning season. 8-8 with my normal +/- 1 game, so 7-9 (which we’ve never had either) or 9-7 (which I’ve only had once in Year 3 with Miami). Shoot I’ve only had one 6-10 season (year 2 Carolina) and one 5-11 season (Year two with the Jets). (I also don’t have an 0-16 season and my first 1-15 season was year 1 with Richmond just a few years ago).

Here were my Bowls I’ve won

Jets – 10 years, 2 Bowls
Dolphins – 9 Years, 3 bowls
Panthers – 7 years, 2 bowls
Bucs – 10 years, 2 Bowls
Vikings/Rattlesnakes – 3 years…

So I have 9 Bowls across 5 teams in 39 years, which feels pretty solid to me, right?

Do I wanna skip through the losses this season? I enjoy the deep dive into the game as I do it but it adds a lot of time to the dynasty and I never reread them when I go back and reread these later I skip by them. What do you do with my game reviews?

We’ll slow go this one and invest time into it. Year 4 should be our first winning season, or at least our first competitive one…

But let’s find out!!!!

Week 1 – Chicago – We open with a home game against last year’s Super Bowl winner… Like I said, playing against three teams with Super Bowls, playoffs, and good records in the NFC South will give me losses that I might take home otherwise. We win! 40-38! Wow! MVP is K Kanpurwala with 4 of 4 FGs. Londesbrough was 19 of 95. Kennedy? 23 of 37, 198, 2:1. Scores by Glenn and Londesbrough. Pick six by rookie Westbrook. 2 FF by Snyder, 1 by Plumier, FF rec by Plumier, 2 sacks by Snyder.

Good stuff!

Week 2 – New York Jets – We win 34-14. MVP was CB Avery Terry with TWO PICK SIXESs. Wow! Londesbrough 24 for 105, Kennedy 21 of 32, 267 and 2:1. Scores by Glenn and Deyo.

FB Bensen is out and I massage my roster.

Week 3 – Atlanta – We lose 23-7. Londesbrough, 15 for 97 and 1 score, Kennedy, 18 for 33, 243, 0:2, Watson 7 for 110 yards, his first 100+ game in his career. Pick by Ferguson. FF by Willis. 3 pasdef by CB Wright.

Week 4 – At Raleigh – We win 14-10. MVP is Kennedy with 17 of 29, 245 and 2:0. Glenn was 5 for 105 and 1 score the other score by RB Harvey. Londesbrough is 24 for 137, FF by LB Sellers and DE Hailey. 2 sacks by LB Sellars. 4 KRb by Macias

We are 3-1 and looking pretty…

Week 5 – At Green Bay – Uh oh… We lose 8-22. Londesbrough 21 for 143, rush score by Ferguson who was starting for a banged up Kennedy (who finishes probable),

Week 6 – BYE

FB Bensen is back and I change my roster around.

Week 7 – At Greenville – We lose 31-36. Londesbrough, 19 for 124 and 2 scores, rush score by Kennedy, who was 31 of 45, 366 and 1:1. Glenn was 8 for 120, Moy was 7 for 115 and 1 score, FF by Ferguson, 6 KRB by OT McDonald.

WR Deyo is out for a few weeks. WR Bennett will start for him.

Week 8 – DC – We win 27-13. MVP is Kennedy, 25 of 35, 262, 2:0. RB Harvey a score. Glenn 7 for 110 and 1 score, score by Reynolds, pick by Westbroook

Week 9 – New York Giants – We tie 28-28. Kennedy, 25 of 41, 263, 3:1, scores by Bensenx2 and Harvey. Pick six by rookie LB Woodson and picks by CB Wright and Westbrook. FF by S Dunlap. 2 sacks by Snyder, 4 KRb by Macias

Londesbrough was injured in that game and is questionable, but we’ll start him.

We are 4-3-1

Stats

Offensive

Passing

QB Kennedy – 346 of 549, 3681, 23:15, 85.1 rating

Not bad! He was 6th in TDs, but not in the top ten in rating or yards. We need more growth.

Rushing

RB Londesbrough – 292 for 1574, 5.39 ypc,9 scores

He led the league in yards despite his mid-season injuries, and had a great ypc, and was tied for 3rd in TDs. Good stuff! He now has more than 4k rush yards in his first three years.

Receiving

This was both a good and bad season for my three star catchers. All had great 800+ seasons but I’d like more from Watson even in his rookie year. Moy was good, as well as Glenn. I’m very happy with that. Londesbrough was 372 on 52 snags, still lower than I like.

Blocking

This was a great year for McDonald with that nasty % percent. You also have a great year by Macias again.

Special Teams

K Kanpurwala – 24 of 33, Long of 59, 40 of 40 PAT

Good rookie season!

P Gonzalez – 87 punts, 48.0 avg, 38 in 20

Another great year by Gonzalez!

Reynolds had 1 PR RET Td.

Good stuff!

Defense

Not a dominant year by my top three in tackles. Snyder notched 7.5 sacks which was the most on my team, but we have to improve that. Ditto Plumier with just 3.5 sacks. He was better last year!

Pass Coverage

Westbrook led my team in picks, grabbed two RET scores, and came in tied for 3rd in pasdef. We need to get those pasdef numbers up for my team…

I end the season – we score a 26

The 2059 NFL Offseason

I get another warning from the owner about the losing ness going on.

Hall of Fame

No Abe’s Boys

Retirements of Note

Richmond Rattlesnakes

None

Tampa Bay Bucs

WR Wesley Cleghorn – Their stud WR retires. 3 Rings, 5 All Pros, 1 league’s fastest man – HOF parabola probable.

Other Abe’s Boys

WR Greg Vila -7th round pick that played well with the Bucs, we didn’t retain him due to cost, no Rings

OT Mackenzie Shannon – 2nd round pick who played with us for a bit and then signed with the Broncos. No Rings or honors.

DE Leslie Schneider – Strong UFA pickup with the Bucs, finished with a Ring

Staff Draft

We pick 31st and… I make no changes

I have 9 UFAs. Do I want to tag Grembowski? It’s 15.5 mill. I do so. He downplayed, and he’s on my radar for replacement in the draft if possible.

I head to FA!

The 2059 NFL FA Period #1

We draft at the 1.10 spot.

My targets – OC, stud only. OG, stud only. Starters - CB, S, LB. My favorite at the 1.10 spot is WLB Dashawn Troutman a very underrated stud, but we’ll see if he is still there. There’s a great S as well we’ll look at later that I could see at the 10th pick.

I resign my RFAs – but not WR Bennett, he sucks.

We have 75 mill in cash after my draft and 43 on my roster.

Who’s contract is coming up soon?

FB Bensen – We’ll let him go
LB Willis – Ditto
LB Sellars – Ditto
SS Grembowski – I’ll hold off for now – he wants 40 mill over 3 years to extend his deal
WR Glenn – Wants 87 mill over 4 years. For a 59/59 guy? Nope!
OG Storm- Wants 69 mill over 5years. We’ll hold off for post draft
DE Hailey – Wants 18 mill over 3 years. Not that bad – but he’s a runs topping specialist and I won’t keep him. I want to try out Arnie Tapp who is a pass rush specialist. (Or a DE I might draft)
NT Garibaldi – No thanks, I have two great DTs

Do I want to chase a UFA?

Nope! Some are cheap, but nope…

Anyone else I want chase?

OG Norman Ramirez was drafted by…moi…for the Bucs. Should I offer him a cheap 11 mill over 2 years? He’s better than OG Shelby and cheaper…

I make him the offer. He could be a cheap backup for me on the O line.

Week 2 – Ramirez signs with us

Week 3 – Ferguson signs with Houston,

Week 4 – Macias stays in the NFC North and heads to GB.

Week 6 – Shelby signs with Cleveland.

Week 10 – Grier signs with New Orleans, Preston also stays in the NFC North and heads to Detroit.

Drafting fun times…commence!

The 2059 NFL Amateur Draft

Are you ready for the last draft of the 2050s?

Drafting at the 1.1 spot is the Raleigh Eagles. Let’s slow roll this. I’d like WLB Dashawn Troutman who is the top OLB on the board to be there at the 1.10 but there are some solid consolidation prizes like S Darius Wiggins or DE Hunter Mlazgar. Ready?

1.1 – Raleigh goes: Kleinsasser, Mackenzie, DT. That was the top DT on the board.
1.2 – New Orleans - Frederick, Evan, QB – Here goes the top QB on the board
1.3 – Houston - Sanders, Ivan, RB, - The top RB on the board and looks fine but unspectacular.
1.4 – Denver - Farley, Bo, DE – Denver did the 2nd best DE on the board when the 1st is still here. Hmm.
1.5 - Augusta (GA) - Newman, Nolan, CB – CBs this good rarely make it to the 10th spot, but we really liked him.
1.6 – NY Jets - New Jersey - Clancy, Minky, T – The first O Line goes and he’s okay. Good bars, overrated.
1.7 - New England - Brigham, Arnie, ILB – The first LB goes and it’s not Troutman but the best ILB on the draft. He was Hard to Read and adequate bars and not on my shortlist. I’m happy to see this pick move us one closer to the final pick of the Top Ten. 3 picks left!
1.8 – Cleveland – Traded to SF - Wiggins, Darius, S, -That’s not good. He was an absolute stud on bars, but Hard to Read, but I would have taken him all day long.
1.9 - Arizona - Feldman, Darnell, CB – The 3rd DB and 2nd CB heads off the board in the top 10. He’s not great with the bars and I didn’t even bother to interview him.

Our 10th pick arrives! Wanna see the guy I like here?

This is Troutman. As you can see this studly OLB is strong everywhere and very underrated and is pretty well developed. My goal is to turn this into a SLB Rex Madison of the Bucs who was nasty for years. He was the 3rd player on the draft regardless of position….

But the top player? He’s still here!

This is DE Mlazgar, and he’s very nasty in the bars from pass rush to run d to thinking and punching, and he’s not bad at coverage either. He is very very strong and could start for me immediately across from Snyder. But………he’s Hard to Read…

So which one would you do? Mlazgar, which is the cooler name, or Troutman, which is an okay name I suppose.

Or…is this a super secret player that’s still on the board?

This is the best O Line on the board going into the draft, and he’s an OG and underrated. Do I fill my need at OG, LB or DE?

I also need another WR to match with Watson as Glenn is too expensive to retain and……look who’s fallen…

How has a stud this studly still on the board? I know…hard to read…but seriously…how? Should I grab Morris and really set myself up for majestic receivership?

This will clearly be my last Top Ten pick with the Rattlesnakes…so who do I like here? Who will push my franchise forward?

I take…

Troutman. I’m a 3-4 that hasn’t gotten lucky with the later LBs. I need my Rex Madison for my team, and Troutman appears to be the best LB who’s been on the board at any spot thus far when I’ve been up… I grab him.

2.10 – Np FBs have gone yet. FB Alfredo Lachance? He’s a catching FB. WR Ezekiel Burke? DE Rufus Carter? Carter is a pass rush specialist. I like all three!

Why each?

Lachance would be my new Bensen.
Carter looks to be a solid starter at DE and pass rushes like a bear in heat.
WR Burke could be my new Glenn. And maybe a bit better.

I like all three. Carter feels like the biggest position of need right now so I go him.

Look at Carter! He’s the top player on the board.

3.10 – OG Arnold Cone? I like Cone. He looks full at run blocking and pass blcoking but no strength. Did Lachance or the 2nd FB Dominic Morrison fall? Nope.

4.10 – MLB Courtney Luciano looks to have fallen…I grab him.

5.10 – I need a backup QB. Should I grab Sebastian Lambeau? He looks like a grower.

6.10 – Who do I like here? Hmmm…I need a ….d back but they al have sucky bars and no one looks like a grower… I need a 4th TE, anyone here? The 2nd TE on the board might be a grower and I grab TE Neil Linares

7.10 – DE Alex Turner? OC Devon Doebert? OC Derek Garrett? Wanna see Doebert?

He was the 2nd OC on the board but no one has taken him….so we do! Alright Mr. Underrated, let’s see what you can do!

Rookie Lookie #1

1.10 - WLB Dashawn Troutman, Michigan State, 62/85
2.10 – DE Rufus Carter, Syracuse, 34/67
3.10 – OG Arnold Cone, WVU, 20/76
4.10 – MLB Courtney Luciano, Kansas State, 20/60
5.10 – QB Sebastian Lambeau, Duke, 16/43
6.10 – TE Neil Linares, Clemson, 25/41
7.10 – OC Devon Doebert, Tennessee, 44/65

There we go friends!!!

Two teams had move votes. Tampa Bay to Manchester….loses

However…

Denver to Portland, OR succeeds.

I move Troutman to SLB and my SLB Sheldon to WLB. I move Luciano to SILB.

Any extensions?

I have 80 mill. I extend no one with one year left.

My two years in stud QB Kennedy. We extend him for a nasty 225 mill, 5 years. WLB Sheldon and NT Plumier want too much right now (or too few years).

My rookies?

We’ll skip him

Carter on the other hand looks great with his pass rush t and s. Good stuff Carter!

On The Green Page we have Cone and Carter.

Rookie Investigation

At QB, our UFA Joyner is the best QB in the draft by potential! Only him had a 50+ pot.

Only three RB’s had a 50+ pot.

FB Lachance wound up with a 38/69 rating, and wound have been solid pick up. 2nd FB Morrison was with 67 pot.

Only two TEs had a 50+ rating, and one of those is at 64.

At WR, stud Morris wound up with a 47/79 rating, and to more in the 60s, and Burke that we were looking at 2.10 wound up with a 51/63 rating. Not bad at all. Just one WR in the 50s,

At OC, Doebert wound up the top OC by pot by 1.

Had we taken OG Strickland, we would have gotten the top O Line player in the draft at 52/84. There are four OGs in the 70s including ours, at the 2nd spot.

1 Ot in the 60s. The rest are in the 50s. That was taken in the 1st round top ten

Carter is the 2nd best DE in the draft and 3rd best D Line. This was deep there. Mlazgar was the best at 61/79.

After Troutman busted he’s the 9th best LB in the draft. And Luciano is 3rd. Anyone I would have taken at 1.10 over Troutman would have been a stud.

6 DBacks have 60s pot, and 13 to in the 50s, so this was an okay draft for them.

The 2059 NFL Regular Season

I think we’ll turn the curve and finish our 5th season 10-6 with 4 more wins.

Week 1 – At Detroit – Ready for our first game on the road in the NFC North? Let’s do it to it! We win 31-21 – MVP is QB Kennedy with 25 of 36, 276 and 3:0, scores by Watson, Bensen and Londesbrough, who was 27 for 144 and 1 score. INT by Ferguson

Week 2 – At LA Chargers – We win 35-16. MVP is Kennedy, 18 of 22, 174, 2:0, 2 scores by Watson, Londesbrough a rush score, Pick six by Ferguson and another by LB Luciano, INT by Ferguson in addition. 4 KRb by rookie C Doebert.

Week 3 – Raleigh – We barely win 30-27. Kennedy, MVP, 22 of 31, 272, 3:0, all three scores by Watson, Londesbrough 25 for 123, 4 KRb by OT Bennett

Week 4 – Green Bay – Can we beat the heavy? They started 1-2 and maybe we can catch them weakwindedly. We lose 20-23. Londesbrough 23 for 104, Kennedy 25 of 38, 236, 2:2, Watson 8 for 123 and 2 scores, pick by Sheldon, 5 pasdef by Grembowski, 3 by Troutman, 4 Doebert KRB.

DT Plumier is out for a month or so

We are 3-1 at the first quarter

Week 5 – Tampa Bay – Can we beat our former team? Let’s find out! We win 30-23. They held Londesbrough to 26 yards. Kennedy was 25 of 34, 285 and 1:2, score to Watson, Deyo a KR RET TD, which was enough for the win and was our MVP. Heath Watson a PR RET TD as well, so we were really in the returning space in this game… 3 pasdef by Luciano,

Week 7 – Carolina - Against another old team, can we emerge victorious? We win 34-27. Kennedy, MVP, 25 of 36, 290, 3:0, Watson two scores, Deyo one, Londesbrough is 26 for 152 and 1 score. 4 KRB by Bennett

Plumier is back.

Week 14 – Denver – We win 40-38. Too close to a 1 win team. That was almost a trap loss. Londesbrough kept to 90 on 20, Kennedy 23 of 33, 301, 3:0, Watson 4 for 106 and 1 score, scores by Londesbrough and Moy. Fum Rec TD by Sheldon. FF by Plumier and Westbrook.

Week 15 – At Green Bay – They have dropped to 5-8 and are not looking good. They must have the Super Bowl Loser’s Curse. his is our best chance to win away against them and…We lose 34-37. Close! Londesbrough held to 19 for 88, Kennedy rush score and was 26 of 45, 255 and 2:1, scores by Moy and Glenn, pick six by Grembowski

Where are we with 2 games left? Kennedy is in front of yards by more than 100, Watson is 2nd in yards by 100 but has a massive 17 scores, Londy is more than 100 yards in front of 2nd place. My trinity is playing like it! Can we finish strong?

Week 16 – KC – They are 6-8…can we thump them and finish well with my trinity? We win 27-20. Kennedy, MVP, 24 of 34, 216 and 3:0, scores by Moy, Hopkins and Londesbrough and he was 27 for 146, but Watson held to 55 yards. Pick by Ferguson.

Reynolds is back from his injury.

Week 17 – Chicago – This game is for the NFC North. We are both 12-3. Who will win the division? Let’s find out! We do have home field advantage which may tip it. We win 30-10. Not even close! MVP is Kennedy, MVP, 22 of 30, 195, 3:0, scores by Watson, Glenn and Londesbrough who was 33 of 138, picks by Westbrook and Grembowski, THREE ff by Plumier, Troutman a rec, 2.5 sacks by Snyder,

We finish 13-3 and with the NFC North Win!!!

Stats

Offensive

Passing

QB Kennedy – 365 of 532, 4190 yards, 39:5, 112.6

That’s one of my best QB seasons in a long time! He led in yards by 23, TDs by 8, rating by 18.8. Nasty stuff from the guy!

Rushing

RB Londesbrough – 402 for 1749, 4.35 ypc, 9 scores

His yards were way up from his previous high last year, but his scores and ypc are down. If he had last year’s ypc he would have gotten more than 2k yards with 401 carries. Good stuff!

Receiving

Watson was 2nd in the league in yards and dominated with 18 scores. Only 6 players netted 1000+ yards this year. Down years from Moy and Glenn from last when they had 800+ yards each. Londesbrough was good with 322 that put him over 2k for the year from scrimmage.

Blocking

Rookie Cone led my team n KRB and % and he had just one sack allowed. Good stuff rookie! A down-ish year from others. McDonald really fell from last year.

Special Teams

K Kanpurwala – 30 of 38, Long of 49, 59 of 60 PAT

Good PAT numbers and only 8 missed kicks but that felt a little inconsistent at times.

P Gonzalez – 80 punts, 47.9 avg, 39 in 20

Great almost 50% in 20. Lower avg than normal though

We had TWO RET TDs this year

OT Rivers led my team with 25 special teams tackles

Defense

Luciano led my team in tackles but not dominatingly. Snyder with a tired 7 sacks led my team, and rookie Troutman with 6.5 just a half sack behind him. Plumier was injured so no judgments there. Rookie Carter just 3. We have to do better with my D Line given their talent level. With 5 FF, Plumier led my team.

Pass Coverage

Ferguson had a great year with the picks and pasdef. He tied for 2nd most in the league. Hocking was my nickelback and played well there. He tied my team for 1st in pasdef and grabbed a pair of picks. Good stuff!

Def. Player of the Year – S Percy Ferguson – Led my team in picks and was tied for 2nd in the league, and was 2nd on my team in pasdef. Good stuff!

Special Teams Player of the Year – P Liam Gonzalez – Nasty year by the lad on inside the 20 and his avg was among the top in the league.

Rookie of the Year – OG Arnold Cone – Led my team in sacks allowed, KRB and block %. Never played like a rookie!

Heart Award – S Braden Hocking – We already established how good he was and how he outplayed starters. Good stuff UFA rookie!

The 2060 NFL FA Period #1

I look up at the draft to see what might be there at the 1.31 spot. There is a stud FB that’s overrated. This seems like a weak DB draft so I doubt we’ll see anyone fall there. I interview some LBs but this is a weak group of those as well.

I have 103 mill available for new players.

Here are players of note in the final year of their deal

OT McDonald – Wants 81 mill over 4 years, cap cut of 5 mill this year – I’ll wait until post draft in case we grab a stud somewhere
NT Plumier – Wants 151 mill over 4 years. I do it, but he needs to play up to his ability.
LB Sheldon – Wants 71 mill over 5 years. I do it as well

I extend my LS and P.

I sign my RFAs but not WR Wynn or CB Donovan.

I have 40 players and 51 mill for big stuff.

Anyone I want to chase in FA?

I make an offer to bring back Willis for two years. We need bodies at LB.

I make an offer to 13 year vet FS Drew Kempthorne for 11 mill/1 year to join us as I doubt we’ll get a good option in the draft at both CB and S.

WR Glenn wants 44 mill over 3 years…do I want to bring him back? Right now I have just Raleigh and Watson… I make him an offer as this seems like a weaker WR draft.

Week 3 – Glenn returns to us.

Week 4 – Storm heads to Arizona

Week 5 – We sign Kempthorne and Willis

Week 9 – Hailey signs with Augusta, Grembowski heads back to Tampa Bay

Week 11 – Sellars heads to Miami

I’ll see you in the draft!

The 2060 NFL Amateur Draft

This is the first injection of talent for the new decade!

Picking first is… Denver and they grab… WR Aiden McKnight

Who is left at the 1.31 spot?

Wow…not a lot…

The biggest falls appear to be a position of no need at DT. The four top players on the board, other than the overrated FB, are all DT. Wow I wish I hadn’t extended my guy now…

DT Gabriel Finacchiaro – 3rd best Dt on the board, the best by bars
OT DeAndre Fairley – Looks good with the two blocking stuff, weak at strength
OG Lewis Dunn – Looks good but I don’t really need an OG; I’m very strong there on my roster
SLB Brayden Blanchard – Best LB on the board, bad bars, very overrated. Overrated not under…
SLB Thurman Lavalais – 2nd best LB on the board, bad bars, very underrated
MLB Zane Eckert – Not great bars, As Scouted, 3rd LB on the board
FB Tom Conley – Overrated – Given how bad my predictions have been in the past, maybe this guy will boom, not bust?
CB B.J. Klech – Top D Back on the board, bars are…okay at best… poor at coverage, good at picks, play d and hitting.

Here’s a thought… take a stud DT. What am I doing? Then flip to 4-3 next year in the offseason staff draft since we’ve had such a problem with LBs here. Would that work?

What do I do? What makes sense? Do I grab Lavalais and hope? Take a stud DT and move to 4-3 next year? Go FB, a position of need, even though he’ll likely fall?

Here’s Lavalais…. Do I gamble on this guy growing? Those bars aren’t good…and I have no combine scores to compare him too or guess at growth… if I take him, am I throwing a good pick this year after my bad pick last at 1.10?

I’ll sleep on it

Okay, I still am unsure so let’s talk it out. I rule out the Bap of DT. Moving to a 4-3 would be a transformational shift that I am unwilling to do simply to get the BAP from this draft. I’m sure one of the 4 DTs at the top of the draft would wind up a studly stud.

So what’s left? CB Klech is a need with okay bars but no interview or anything to hang my hat on. FB Conley is a player of need but overrated. I could Lavalais, and I don’t need him to be a Madison, but an Arellano would be fine. OT Fairley, if he developed as he looks, could replace my expensive OT right now and save me money heading into a few big contracts coming up named Watson and….Moy. But OT is the least need right now.

So what do I do?

Could I go with the top WR Roberto Coles instead? Or the next OT who seems better in bars OT Graham Mangold?

I grab OT Mangold…if I am going to blind grab someone I’ve not interviewed he seems better. OT seems the best bet here…

There’s my Mangold. He’s the next OT down from the one I was looking at.

2.31 – Who do I like here? TE Santiago Roberts looks good. Is there a good WR on the board? Nope. FS Axel Fox looks pretty solid as well. I need D dbacks badly so I do Fox.

3.31 – Lavalais is still on the board here and I grab him.

4.31 – Who do I like here? I need a WR, and who is the best on the board? The 3rd WR Ralph Borders looks like a grower and I grab him.

5.31 – I could grab WILB Percy Isbell or SLB Desmond Wilson here. I take Isbell.

6.31 – DT Renaldo Andersen?

7.31 – Hmm…how about RB Mitch Erickson or CB Ivan Fisher? Erickson looks like a solid grower…

Rookie Lookie #1

1.31 – OT Graham Mangold, Clemson, 34/66
2.31 – FS Axel Fox, Oklahoma State, 30/63
3.31 – LB Thurman Lavalais, Oregon, 36/53
4.31 – WR Ralph Borders, Florida State, 23/38
5.31 – WILB Percy Isbell, Brigham Young, 31/51
6.31 – DT Renaldo Andersen, NC State, 32/62
7.31 – RB Mitch Erickson, Southern California, 35/38

We have 50 on my roster, so I make offers to…

CB Ivan Fisher
TE Carson Williamson
WR Carl Stephenson
DE Chase Clements
MLB Damon Clancy
LS Edwin Mendola – Our LS snapping is 90, so this one looks like he might be better..

It’s a weak UFA pool. Only 4 non-kickers have a pot of 50 or more…

Week 1 – Two sign.

Week 2 – Three sign

Week 3 – The last one signs

UFAs

CB Ivan Fisher, 23/42
TE Carson Williamson, 16/47
WR Carl Stephenson, 20/45
DE Chase Clements, 15/45
MLB Damon Clancy, 23/50
LS Edwin Mendola, 21/21

The 2060 NFL Preseason

I hand out 8 deactives and make my depth chart.

I start Fox at RCB, and Mangold and Lavalais at WILB in the preseason…

Week 1 – At Baltimore – We lose 17-34.

OG Ramirez is out for a while

Week 2 - BYE

Week 3 – Jacksonville – We crush the recent Super Bowl winner 44-14

Week 4 – At Pittsburgh – We lose to last year’s Super Bowl winner 27-24

Week 5 – Indy – We win 45-18

We go 3-1

Rookie Lookie #3

1.31 – OT Graham Mangold, Clemson, 34/66; 39/67; 41/71
2.31 – FS Axel Fox, Oklahoma State, 30/63; 35/65; 36/66
3.31 – LB Thurman Lavalais, Oregon, 36/53; 41/55; 44/55
4.31 – WR Ralph Borders, Florida State, 23/38; 25/38; 25/38

6.31 – DT Renaldo Andersen, NC State, 32/62; 37/61; 46/78
7.31 – RB Mitch Erickson, Southern California, 35/38; 37/39; 39/48

Wow, hello booming Andersen! Nasty! I may want to move to 4-3 anyway…

UFAs

CB Ivan Fisher, 23/42; 27/43; 28/49
TE Carson Williamson, 16/47; 18/44; 18/39
WR Carl Stephenson, 20/45; 24/46; 24/42
DE Chase Clements, 15/45; 19/43; 18/36
MLB Damon Clancy, 23/50; 26/49; 26/47

I only have 54 on my roster, so I cut LB Sam Cunningham

Any extensions I wanna make? I have 26 mill in cap space.

TE Moy, dropped to 66/66 – Wants 91 mill, 5 years, and that’s a cap hit of 11 mill this year

WR Watson – Wants 201 mill, 5 years, Increase this year of 25 mill. No thanks.

CB Westbrook – Wants 185 mill, 5 years, cap hit of 24 mill.

I’ll hold off on all three. I’ll cut Sanford in the post season to afford Moy.

Top two rookies?

OT Mangold

Here is Mangold after development, and you can see where he wound up. Good stuff Graham!

And here is The Fox. As you can see, Axel looks sexy pretty much everywhere save punching and zoning. He’s a solid pickup in a weak D back draft. When I grabbed him he was the 5th best S on the board but he had actual, proper, bars.

On The Green Page is…….

Andersen 5th and Mangold 8th.

Rookie Investigation

QB – The best QB in the draft is 9/52 picked in round 6. Not a great draft for them

RB – Just 5 RBs with a pot in the 50s or more, one at 67

TE – The TE I was looking at 2.31, Roberts, wound up the best at 47/63

WR – 2 WRs at the 61 pot, and then 6 in the 50s. Not a graft draft for them either.

OC – The best one was a UFA with a 52 pot, and that was the only C with a 50+ pot.

OG – This was a deep OG draft with 1 83 (on the board at 1.31), 1 74, 3 60s, and 9 50s. We could have left with a stud OG and then cut someone if we had wanted to.

OT – After booming, Mangold was the 2nd best OT in the draft. We had 2 70s, 5 60s, and 10 50s so it was a deep draft for OTs

After booming massively, Andersen is the 2nd best DT in the draft and the 2nd best D Line as well. There were 3 in the 70s, 6 in the 60s, and 6 in the 50s, so this was a deep draft for D Line

At LB however, this was weak. 1 in the 70s, 3 in the 60s including our Isbell 3rd best in the draft, and just 3 LBs in the 50s, of which Lavalais was one. Lavalais didn’t boom as much as I’d hoped, but we didn’t waste a 1.31 pick on him either, so I’m happy about that.

At DB, there was a 81, a 71, and then 3 60s including Fox the 4th best, and just 6in the 50s, so it wasn’t super deep for CBs and Ss combined. We got lucky with Fox.

Good stuff!

The 2060 NFL Regular Season

I predict 12-4 in the rough NFC North, a drop of a game from last year.

I am coming out of preseason with a doubtful, one out, and three questionables.

Week 1 – At Green Bay – Well…we aren’t staring out our campaign in a good spot. We lost this game last year. Ready? We win 19-17, MVP is K Kasparwala with 4 of 4 FGs. Londesbrough (hereforth known as “Londy”) is rocking 19 of 141 and Kennedy is 26 of 35, 229 and 1:1, score by Watson, FF by Ferguson, rec by Plumier, 4 KRB by Porter

Week 2 – At Indy – We win 23-17. Kennedy, MVP, 22 of 31, 201 and 2:0, scores by Londy and Reynolds, Londy was 27 of 166, FF by Ferguson, rec by Kempthorne,

Week 3 – Atlanta – We lose 34-38. Londy was 18 for 88, Kennedy a rush score and 31 of 47, 300 and 3:2, Moy, Glenn, and Watson with scores, We had four picks – Sheldon, Westbrook, Lavalais and Fox. Two rookies on the chart.

Week 4 – BYE

Week 5 – Seattle – We thump them 41-17. Londy, 23 for 106, Kennedy, MVP, 20 of 30, 304 and 5:0, score by Watsonx2, Londy, Glenn, and Moy. FF by Kempthorne and Ferguson, rec by Carter, 3 pasdef by Luciano, 6 KRB by Bennett

We are 3-1 at the first quarter…

Halfway into the season, Londy has 1051 yards and is on pace for 2k

Week 10 – Green Bay – They have really fallen and are 1-7. We win 23-16. MVP is Londy with 22 for 114 and Kennedy was injured and my backup QB had three quarters of pay (QB Kennedy will be probable after the game.). They will combine for around 235 yards and 3:2. Scores by Stephenson, and Reynoldsx2. Pick by Fox, sFF by Luciano, 4 KRB by Doebert

Week 11 – Detroit- We win 30-7. MVP is Londy with 31 for 158, 2 scores, Kennedy is 20 of 29, 261 and 1:1, score by Watson, pick by Kempthorne, 4 KRB by Cone.

Week 12 – At Jacksonville – At the AFC Heavy Hitter… we win a close one 24-21. MVP is Kennedy with 24 of 31, 266 and 3:0, 2 scores by Glenn, 1 by Reynolds, Londy is 19 for 113 and pick by Ferguson, 2 sacks by Troutman, 5 KRb by Porter

Week 13 – At 8-3 DC. Can we win? We win 20-6. MVP is Londy with 27 of 185, Kennedy was 17 of 24, 218 and 2:1, 2 scores by Watson, Glenn 7 for 111, FF bY Westbrook and Carter, rec by Terry, 3 pasdef by Fox, 5 KRB by Bennette, 4 by Cone,

We are 10-2 at the three quarter mark. Londy has 1621 yards with 4 games left and could have the best Rush Yards/Season in history… it’s 2,062 yards with Preston Fones of my Dolphins in 2034…
