Ray Garners CL Batter of the Month Award
Thursday, May 1st, 2166: Craig Ray received the Continental League Batter of the Month trophy earlier today for his efforts at the plate this last month.

"He might be getting older," Cleveland's manager told reporters, "But he's been around long enough to know what it takes to put a stretch such as this together... and he doesn't keep that to himself. He's always talking to the younger guys in the clubhouse helping 'em any way they'll let him. Craig's value to our team goes farther than the numbers he puts up on the field."

To win the honor Ray put up a .415 batting average, 7 home runs, 24 RBIs and scored 24 times in April.


RL's Top Hitter Announced
Thursday, May 1st, 2166: Colorado Rancheros 27-year-old right fielder Millard Bennett hit his way to a .400 batting average and the Republic League Batter of the Month award in April.

He had 8 home runs, 25 RBIs and 18 runs scored for the month.

O'Higgins Nabs CL #1 Pitcher Award
Thursday, May 1st, 2166: Despite the number of years he's been in the league, Grant O'Higgins still gets excited when he puts together a quality stretch like he had in April. The 30-year-old starter for Napa Valley was named Continental League Pitcher of the Month earlier today.

He collected 4 wins and 1 loss with 29 strikeouts in his 6 starts, putting up a fine 3.41 ERA in 37 innings of work.


Republic League Names #1 Pitcher in April
Thursday, May 1st, 2166: Luís Reimo has been around the league long enough to know that relievers are often overlooked. That has never stopped him from doing what he does best -- and he did it extremely well in April and stole away with the Republic League Pitcher of the Month award.

The Rancheros bullpen ace collected 7 saves and 16 strikeouts in 14 innings, holding the opposition to a .296 average and posting a 0.00 ERA and a 3-0 record.

Thursday, May 1st, 2166: Manny Fernández is still a bit shy, but then, who could blame the newest Continental League Rookie of the Month honoree? He hasn't been around the league long enough to fully know the ropes yet, despite the fact that he's putting up veteran-like numbers.

In April the Cleveland hitter tagged opposing pitching for a .347 average with 34 hits, 3 home runs and 9 RBIs.


Republic League Names Rookie of Month
Thursday, May 1st, 2166: Harvey Wieman was toddling around on his tricycle when some of the guys he's playing against were in their prime, but the 22-year-old second baseman definitely knows how to get to first, second or beyond. Today he was chosen April's Republic League Rookie of the Month for his remarkable month of hitting.

In 24 games Wieman batted .400 for Toronto, slapping 40 hits in 100 at-bats with 1 home run, drove in 7 runs and scored 14 times.

CL Best Hitter Award to Halifax's Luiz Lenzi
Sunday, June 1st, 2166: Luiz Lenzi, the Halifax right fielder, certainly made a name for himself this past month. He banged out a .360 batting average with 41 hits, 9 home runs, 21 RBIs and scored 27 times.

That kind of hitting earned him the Continental League Batter of the Month honors for May.

This season Lenzi has hit at a .374 clip with 35 RBIs, 14 home runs and 51 runs scored.


Rodríguez Captures RL Batter of Month Award
Sunday, June 1st, 2166: Seasoned by several years of professional experience, 30-year-old Tomás Rodríguez put together a solid offensive month for Colorado and was crowned May's top batter in the Republic League.

He batted .339 with 7 home runs, 26 RBIs and 20 runs scored.



For the year Rodríguez has hit at a .330 clip with 42 RBIs, 8 home runs and 36 runs scored.

CL's Top Pitcher in May Is González
Sunday, June 1st, 2166: Veteran Félix González put together quite a successful stretch in May for the Cleveland Cyclones, earning himself the Continental League Pitcher of the Month award.

González racked up a 5-0 record in 7 starts, posting a 2.76 ERA over 42.1 innings and striking out 26.

So far this season González has a record of 8-0 with 46 strikeouts and 13 walks in 76.2 innings and a 2.93 ERA.


May's RL Top Pitcher is Rancheros Copeland
Sunday, June 1st, 2166: Michael Copeland's been around the league long enough to appreciate the honor he received today. After going 4-0 in May, the 32-year-old Colorado hurler has been named Republic League Pitcher of the Month.

He fanned 24 in 34 innings, logged an ERA of 2.38 and allowed opponents to hit .301 against him.

This year Copeland has fashioned a 6-2 mark, 2.67 ERA and pitched 64 innings. Opposing clubs are batting .278 against him and he has logged 42 strikeouts.

Sunday, June 1st, 2166: A veritable toddler to the Continental League, Manny Fernández just sewed up the Rookie of the Month trophy for May.

Over the past month the 25-year-old center fielder for Cleveland hit .327 with 37 hits, 4 home runs and 12 RBI. He also logged 9 walks and compiled a .387 on-base percentage.

A look at his current stats shows Fernández with a .336 average, 7 home runs, 21 RBIs and 37 runs scored. He has played in 50 games.


Wieman Selected May's Top RL Rookie
Sunday, June 1st, 2166: Harvey Wieman earned May's Rookie of the Month honors in the Republic League for last month's performance. The boyish Toronto second baseman might be wet behind the ears, but he's proving that he has what it takes to play at this level.

Jim Elliott Winner in June
Tuesday, July 1st, 2166: The Continental League has given Jim Elliott the Batter of the Month Award.

In June, the Baltimore center fielder starred with a .443 batting average, 2 home runs and 16 RBIs. Elliott also had 5 walks, posted a .481 on-base percentage and scored 20 times.

Hartford's Moreno Collects June Batting Honor
Tuesday, July 1st, 2166: Víctor Moreno battered Republic League pitchers all June and wound up taking home the Batter of the Month Award.

"I've been around Front Office Offseason League long enough to know you really have to work hard day in and day out to be able to put up this kind of consistency," the 30-year-old Moreno told reporters. "I put in a lot of work, even on the days I might not take the field, and it's always nice when everything comes together for me like it did this last month."

In 26 games, Moreno hit .343 with 7 home runs, 29 RBIs and scored 22 runs.

Currently Moreno is hitting .304 and has collected 21 home runs, 73 RBIs and scored 56 times, while playing in 78 games.

Magalaes Selected CL's Best Pitcher
Tuesday, July 1st, 2166: Juan Magalaes was the anchor in the Noblesville bullpen last month and snatched up the Continental League Pitcher of the Month honors for June. The 27-year-old is in the prime of his career and pitching like he intends to stay around baseball for quite some time to come.

He threw 21.1 innings over 16 relief appearances and collected a 4-0 record with 17 strikeouts and 3 saves while etching his 0.84 ERA.

Season-to-date Magalaes has 10 saves in 37 relief appearances with a 4-1 mark and 3.66 ERA.


RL #1 Pitcher in June is Hammersmith's González
Tuesday, July 1st, 2166: The #1 pitcher this past month in the Republic League was Júlio González of the Hammersmith Hooligans. He worked the hitters over real good, finishing June with a superb 3-0 record and a 1.72 ERA.

The Hooligans star made 5 starts and surrendered 32 hits in 36.2 innings. He struck out 24 and walked 7.

To date this year, González shows a 6-7 record, 15 starts, 98.1 innings, 51 strikeouts and a 4.58 ERA.

Fernández Voted June's Rookie Trophy
Tuesday, July 1st, 2166: Youngster Manny Fernández emerged as the latest Continental League Rookie of the Month today. The young man from Cleveland deserved the honor, batting .307 with 5 home runs and 16 RBI. Is the month of June a harbinger of things to come or just a fluke? We'll find out someday, but for now, we'll just let Fernández enjoy the limelight.

Fernández is currently batting .327 with 12 home runs and 37 RBIs.


Luna Wins Newcomer of the Month
Tuesday, July 1st, 2166: Miguel Luna's eyes seem to light up whenever he sees the baseball. The young Toronto center fielder has been hitting everything in sight for the better part of a month.

In June he was voted the Rookie of the Month Award.

During the month he hit .362 with 7 doubles, 1 triple and 4 home runs. Luna also scored 13 times and drove in 14 runs.

Luna on the season is batting .287 with 15 home runs. His totals include 58 RBIs and 39 runs scored. He has played in 67 games.

Brooklyn Third Baseman CL's Best Batter in July
Friday, August 1st, 2166: Carl Beaudoin was declared the Continental League Batter of the Month today. Brooklyn's third baseman stroked 38 hits in 85 at-bats for a .447 average in July.

He also hit 9 home runs, drove in 29 and scored 29 runs.

This year Beaudoin has hit at a .367 pace and produced 73 RBIs, 21 home runs and scored 65 runs.

Friday, August 1st, 2166: The #1 hitter in the Republic League in July was Toronto left fielder Ramón Morín. He was selected the Batter of the Month.

Morín starred with a .312 batting average, 6 home runs and 22 RBIs.

Sánchez Wins CL Top Pitcher Honors
Friday, August 1st, 2166: Luis Sánchez of Cleveland had a tremendous July with a 4-1 mark and was chosen the Pitcher of the Month in the Continental League.

Sánchez restricted opposing hitters to 32 base hits and a .235 batting average. He rang up 38 strikeouts in 36.1 innings of work, surrendered 8 walks, and crafted a 1.98 ERA.

For this year Sánchez has chalked up 10 wins and 6 losses in 25 starts with 136 strikeouts in 144 innings and a 3.69 ERA.


Reliever Snags RL Top Hurler Trophy
Friday, August 1st, 2166: António Trevino is at the zenith of his career and today he was selected as the Republic League Pitcher of the Month for July.

He made 11 relief appearances for Toronto last month, throwing 17 innings and collecting 4 saves, a 3-0 record, 17 strikeouts and a 0.00 ERA.

So far this year Trevino has delivered 21 saves. In 42 relief appearances he has 51 strikeouts in 53.2 innings with a 2.18 ERA and a 4-3 won-lost mark.

July's Best Rookie Trophy Awarded
Friday, August 1st, 2166: Manny Fernández earned Rookie of the Month honors in the Continental League for his exemplary performance in July.

The Cleveland center fielder racked up 24 hits, clubbed 3 home runs, drove in 16 runs and tacked on 16 runs scored for good measure.

For the season Fernández is hitting .309, batted in 53 runs with 15 home runs and 70 runs scored.


Third Baseman Nabs RL Rookie Award
Friday, August 1st, 2166: Harvey Wieman of the Toronto Marlboros has been honored as the top Rookie in the Republic League.

Napa Valley's Garza Bags CL Top Batter for August
Monday, September 1st, 2166: Beach balls were coming in at Juan Garza in August and he banged, bashed and blasted them all over the park, putting up a .439 batting average and hauling in the Continental League Batter of the Month trophy.

The 26-year-old Napa Valley third baseman collected 36 hits last month in 24 games. He put up 11 home runs, 21 RBIs and 17 runs scored. Garza also drew 5 walks and compiled a .471 on-base percentage.

For the year Garza is batting .312 with 111 hits and 20 home runs. He has scored 45 times and driven in 53.


August's RL Batter of Month Award Announced
Monday, September 1st, 2166: August was a very productive month for John Lewis, and today the Chico center fielder was rewarded with the Republic League Batter of the Month honors.

He clobbered enemy hurlers for a .394 average, 4 home runs, and 28 RBIs and scored 21 runs.

This season Lewis is swinging the bat at a .359 rate with 181 hits in 504 at-bats. To date he has hit 15 home runs, scored 84 runs and driven in 78.

Winemakers Reliever Cops Pitching Award
Monday, September 1st, 2166: When Napa Valley reliever Jaime García strolled in from the bullpen in August, it did not bode well for the opposing team. He usually put a quick end to any budding rally. For his excellent mound work he was named the Continental League Pitcher of the Month.

The Winemakers reliever had 6 saves for the month with a 3-0 record and 2.79 ERA. He made 16 relief appearances, hurled 19.1 innings, yielded 17 hits, fanned 27 and walked 8.

García's record this year is 4-and-8 with 18 saves and a 4.45 ERA. He has given up 90 hits in 83 innings with 95 strikeouts.


Republic League Announces August's Top Pitcher
Monday, September 1st, 2166: When Michael Copeland takes the mound, a Colorado victory is usually the result. That was the the case in August.

That's why he was voted the Republic League Pitcher of the Month.

Copeland throttled league hitters the whole month with an impressive 4-0 mark and 1.08 ERA in 5 starts. The Rancheros star hurler also rung up 19 strikeouts in 41.2 innings.

On his stats sheet for the year Copeland shows a 16-6 record, 25 starts, 163.1 innings, 94 strikeouts and a 2.98 ERA.

Cleveland Rookie Hits His Way to CL Honor
Monday, September 1st, 2166: Cleveland center fielder Manny Fernández snagged the Continental League Rookie of the Month Award for August.

He posted a .286 batting average last month and collected 32 hits, 5 home runs and 16 RBIs.

This year Fernández has hit at a .304 clip with 69 RBIs, 20 home runs and 89 runs scored.

Monday, September 1st, 2166: Steve Bailey earned the Republic League Rookie of the Month award for his fine play in August.

Ray Crowned Top CL Hitter in September
Wednesday, October 1st, 2166: When guys like Cleveland's Craig Ray win Batter of the Month awards, it just makes you feel good. In a productive September, the longtime Continental League veteran toyed with opposing pitchers all month long, collecting 38 hits in 108 at-bats.

The veteran right fielder hit for a .352 batting average and collected 9 home runs, 27 RBIs and 21 runs scored.

Ray is presently hitting at a .348 pace with 40 home runs and 112 RBIs. He has played in 152 games and scored 114 times.


Republic League Selects September's Best Batter
Wednesday, October 1st, 2166: September's Batter of the Month has been chosen by the Republic League. This month's trophy was awarded to the Omaha catcher, Blair Miller.

He starred by hitting .344 with a .438 on-base percentage, totaled 31 hits in 90 at-bats, 9 home runs, 28 RBIs and 18 runs scored.

This season in 146 games Miller is batting .237 with 31 home runs, 100 RBIs and has scored 84 times.

CL Starter of the Month Goes to Meléndez
Wednesday, October 1st, 2166: When the Brownstones skipper wrote Meléndez on the lineup card, it was a bad omen for the opposition. Outing after outing in September he took command and usually got the win.

He dominated with a 5-0 mark and 0.76 ERA in 5 starts. The gifted Brownstones star pitched 35.1 innings, fanned 38 and held opposing teams to a .158 average.

For his excellent mound work Meléndez was named the CL Pitcher of the Month by the baseball writers.

So far this year Meléndez has 14 wins and 9 losses and a 3.44 ERA.


Flynn Named Top RL Hurler
Wednesday, October 1st, 2166: George Flynn certainly found a groove in September. The Toronto starter posted 5 wins last month to easily claim the Republic League Pitcher of the Month.

During the month Flynn was 5-0 with a 1.75 ERA. He made 5 starts, tossed 36 innings and had 35 strikeouts.

Flynn has made 31 starts, tossed 203 innings, struck out 182 batters and walked 37. His record is 16-6 with a 2.93 ERA and he has limited other teams to a .247 batting average.

Wednesday, October 1st, 2166: Swinging a hot stick in September, Mike Lawson picked up the Continental League Rookie of the Month Award today.

The 25-year-old left fielder for Brooklyn lashed 23 hits as he put together a .418 average with 1 home run. He also drove in 7 runs, scored 15 times and drew 5 walks on his way to a .467 OBP.

In 108 games this season Lawson has compiled a .272 batting average with 89 hits and 12 home runs. He has also scored 62 times and knocked in 37 runs.


September's Best Newcomer Named by RL
Wednesday, October 1st, 2166: Ramón Marín proved to be one of the Republic League's preeminent rookies last month, putting up some sensational numbers to take the Rookie of the Month trophy.
