Another great one, the story of the Mary Celeste. You may know the story, but the wikipedia article is very good and worth reading.

this has the potential to be an epic "time-waster" thread!
i knew about the mary celeste of course, but the rundown of the different theories was informative. oak island i also knew about and is one of my favorite "mystery" things. i'll have to post some links of my own later

Thanks for the good read. I was thinking it would make a great movie, apparently, unfortunately, Keanu thought it would be as well as its slated for a 2012 release per IMDB. Whoa. |

glad you liked it. Got to that page after reading a comic adaptation of the story titled Ronin hood of the 47 Samurai which had a pretty good one page introduction to the story explaining how this was based off a real story. Quick googling led me to the Wiki page which I found to be pretty complete. FM

Yeah... it's also fun to start with the original problem, have people tell you that the solution is "obvious", then move on to some of the others. Amazing how people will come to completely different answers but be unable to tell you why.

It's batshit crazy. There are distinctions too. The ones that have land, the ones that don't, internet-only ones and of course, just fake internet-based micronation games. It's a weird subculture. |

Yeah what's with this micronation thing... I wouldn't mind having an FOFC internet-based one. I think we'd be a pretty damn good one lol.

1993 Football League First Division play-off Final - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The key section here is "Kevin Poole was alleged to have brought down Steve White in the area". I've just watched it again for the first time in years and it's even worse than I remember!!! Steve Thommo's equaliser was the best I have ever felt at a football game, and the cheating b******s' winner is the worst I've ever felt at a football game. The only time I've ever cried over sport. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MHCOMe8J7Ew No, I will not let it go! PS - Kevin Poole was our GK who when we got relgated from the Prem (after we finally won a playoff final) won the club's player of the year. He received his trophy: a crystal glass bowl, and dropped it! True story.

Oh man I remember those 2 Leicester games especially the one you are referring to. The curse of David Ellery. Funnily enough I forgot just how shite a ref he was until this morning stumbled across an account of Cardiff - Cambridge from around 98/99 when he sent off 3 Cardiff players for very little just for the hell of it.
Nice to see a Steve White reference who played for Cardiff for a couple of years when he was pushing 38 and was still a good lower leagues striker even then. Some good memories. At least you can console yourself with the knowledge you eventually made it to the promised land a few years later (and had a pretty good run at it IIRC) Last edited by bhlloy : 04-02-2010 at 07:48 PM. |
