Celebration time is over. Today we host Lazio in the 1st leg of the Semi Final of the Champions League. Lazio are 3rd in Italian Serie A and they have a talented team. Their star player is a player that I wanted to acquire. Striker Valeri Bojinov has it all. He is 32, but he has a complete skill set with speed, strength, agility, acceleration, mental toughness, great technical skill. He has 21 goals and 1 assist on the year. Vito Crimi is his partner at striker. Crimi isn't nearly as talented. He has a good skill set, but he isn't very agile and he can be pushed around. He has 13 goals and 6 assist on the year. Keeper Espen Johnson is a 38 year old Norwegian keeper. However, despite his age, he still has a very high skill leve. He has 23 clean sheets in 50 starts. He is conceding 1.6 goals/game in his other 27 starts. 33 year old midfielder Marcelo Labarthe is a very talented Brazilian who doesn't have any weaknesses in his game. Alessandro Monti is a 23 year old centerback who is just average. Their other centreback, Adriano (yes there will conceivably be 3 Adriano's on the pitch) is slowing down and isn't a very good defender any longer.

We are 4-5 favorites.

It's overcast with temperatures in the 50's.

[Noticing two different wingers in the Player of the Month and Downing's excellent season] I'm seeing a decided lack of SuperLeftWinger[tm] in my limited tinkering with the '06 demo. I don't know how it will be once I get the actual game going.

Ortega and Lennon are both right wingers, but your point is well taken. I'll be glad to see less SuperLeftWingers[tm] in FM 06.

Yeah, I remembered later about Lennon being a right winger.

But, in my tinkering with the '05 Demo, Freddie and even some, ahem, lesser lights [*cough*Jermaine*cough*Pennant*cough*] were sparkling even on the right side while a decently talented left-sider would just go ape-wild.

Finally, a look at his amazing career stats. I wonder how many more years he can keep it up (nothing would surprise me after seeing him have his best year when I thought the decline would catch up to him):

I'm just amazed at his 367 career goals.

May 23, 2018 -

today we play Valencia in the Champions League Final! Valencia is a talented team that has 2 dynamic scorers and a great supporting cast.

Romain Dos Santos is a wonderful player. The 26 year old Frnech striker has a great physical skill set with no weaknesses there. He is fast, strong, agile, has great leaping ability. He is technically very gifted. His only weakness is that he doesn't always work well with his teammates. However, he does have 21 goals and 8 assists in 43 starts on the year.

Gregory Maury is a 26 year old French Striker who doesn't have very good speed, but has every other physical ability you could want in a striker. He is technically gifted and is a superb passer. He has 18 goals and 12 assists in 45 starts.

Alberto is the rock of their defense. This 26 year old right back is "valued" at 41 mllion dollars and is truly a dominating full back. He is strong as anyone I've seen. He always has great positioning, is a top notch tackler, is a top notch passer, and never seems to lose sight of his man. He is simply one of the best right backs I've ever seen except for the fact that he is slow..

Nelio is their left winger, and he is their first true liability. The brazilian player used to be great, but at 34 he has lost much of his speed and he isn't as good at passing any longer. He has 7 goals and 2 assists in 42 starts.

Sean Brady, the former wonderkid that I tried to get from Everton, is their best centreback, but he is ineligible for this match as they acquired him midseason..

Tim Wiese is a 36 year old German keeper who is still a great keeper. However, he is not quite as great as he used to be. He has 21 clean sheets in 50 starts, but has given up 1.4 goals/game in his other starts.

Bastian Schweinsteiger is their main midfielder. The 33 year old German midfielder is still a very good player, but he isn't great any longer. He has 3 goals and 2 assists in 36 starts this year.

We are 6-4 favorites.

It's sunny with temperatures in the 50's.

The match is occuring at Nya Ullevi, Goteborg.

Flores, Petit, Wood, and Pinna are all injured or unavailable.

Alberto Flores had a goal for Spain's U19 team in their 3-1 win over Liechtenstein.

Today we play Coventry in the English FA Cup Final. Coventry finished 11th in the EPL this year.

Their offense completely revolves around Wayne Worthington. Wayne doesn't have great speed, but he is very strong, gets great position, is an excellent leaper, and is lethal with his headers as well as his powerful right foot. The 26 year old English striker had 30 goals and 10 assists in 47 starts this year.

Their #2 striker is a 17 year old and he is away on U19 International Play! Instead, they will have to start Nick Bailey at the other striker position. Nick is a 26 year old power forward who has no speed. He is a decent passer and has a decent shot, but he isn't very dangerous. In 14 starts and 27 relief appearances, he has 4 goals and 4 assists.

Gabriele Nicolae is by far their most dangerous midfielder. The 23 year old Romanian right winger has top notch speed (that matches Ortega's) and he is a very good passer who has a good shot as well. He has 6 goals and 6 assists in 42 starts.

Martin Scott is a 26 year old English Right back who is their best defender the last month or so. He is strong, has decent speed, decent positioning, and decent tackling, but he isn't that much above average.

Marco Tedeschi is their keeper. The 26 year old Italian keeper is very good on one on ones and has good reflexes, but seems to have many lapses for his skill level. He has 16 clean sheets in 47 starts. In his other 31 starts, he is giving up over 2 goals per game.

We are 4-6 favorites.

It's sunny with temperatures in the 60's.

Wood, Pinna, and Flores are injured or otherwise unavailable.

Halftime: 1-1 tie. There are almost 90,000 here today.

77 minute mark: Godoy passes to Barbosa left of the box.. he crosses it short to Rooney.. he heads it.. over the bar.

85 minute mark: We get off a flurry of shots that either their defenders or keeper blocked.

88 minute mark: Bailey trips Salva.. Salva is hurt.. Bailey steals the ball.... dribbles unopposed on goal.. shoots.. upper left corner.. Adriano with a great save.

92 minute mark: Adriano steals the ball from their midfielder.. dribbles twice.. shoots a powerful shot.. wide right.

End of Regulation. We go to extra time.

Cardozo on for Salva. Rooney is winded, but he is such a good penalty taker. That is the main reason he is being left on the pitch..

92 minute mark: Schruers gets a yellow card for tripping Seibert.

96 minute mark: Andrew Whing gets a yellow card for tripping Rooney.

97 minute mark: Rooney gets a yellow card for pusing Whing.

Halftime of extra time. 1-1 tie..

106 minute mark: Cardozo passes to Schruers on the right wing.. he dribbles past a defender.. down the right sideline.. he passes to Adriano in the box.. Adriano hits it on the half-volley.. upper left corner.. great save by the keeper to tip it over.

On the ensuing corner.. Adriano is pushed to the ground by Scott.. Whistle! Penalty!!! I ask my AM who should take the shot.. he feels Trotta should take it. I look at him incrediously, but he thinks Rooney is too exhausted to take it..

Trotta steps up.. he blasts it.. upper right corner.. GOAL!!!!!! 2-1! That was Trotta's first goal of the year!

114 minute mark: Worthington steals it from Heller.. passes it to Seibert who passes it to Harvey in the box.. he dribbles into the 6 yard box.. and Kompany tackles him cleanly!

116 minute mark: Trotta gets a yellow card for pushing Worthington.

The wall deflects and clears the ensuing free kick.

118 minute mark: Whing with a long pass towards Worthington.. Miller intercepts it and clears it.

120 minute mark: Barbosa passes to Adriano in the box.. he is about to shoot.. whistle.. offside on Adriano.

GAME OVER!!!!! 2-1 Win! We've pulled off the Quadruple!!!

We outshot them 24-12 (12-4 on target)

Helder Barbosa wins MoM, 10 for form, 34 of 40 passes, 5 key passes, 0 of 2 tackles, 3 of 11 headers, 21 runs, 2 fouls drawn, and 1 assist.

Salva, Heller, and Schreurs all had 8's for form.

Thanks guys. I've never done the Quad in any version, so I was thrilled (and holding my breath in the last game, particularly when it went to extra time.)

TonyR, I'm already falling in love with WSM 06 (it actually kept me up til 3:30 - despite my best intentions to go to bed by 2:30.) But, I am looking forward to playing this career for a long time. Despite all of the great features WSM 06 has, I'm just very very attached to this Manchester United team. That attachment will make up for any features that FM 05 doesn't have. Also, it helps that FM 05 will remain on my laptop while WSM 06 will strictly be on my main computer upstairs. Many times, I just want to relax on the couch after work and it will be my laptop and FM05 that I fire up. I'm certain that I'm going to continue this dynasty until either Flores retires or my laptop dies (it is in very good health at the moment.) Who knows I might fall in love with another young kid after Flores, and continue my dynasty even longer than Flores' retirement.

However, I am going to start a WSM 06 dynasty. Most likely, I'll start it after the next patch. I'm going to probably make it where I'm an American Coach who starts unemployed with the goal to make it to the MLS (however, I might consider jumping if one of the biggest clubs around the world comes calling eventually.) In any case, I plan on making some different stylistic choices with that dynasty and hopefully people will enjoy reading both dynasties. I'm almost certain I'll enjoy playing/writing them both

I've been asked to name my squad for the World Cup. Here it is:

Keepers:

GK: Chris Taylor - Has been consistently good for several years.

GK: Warren Norman - This relative newcomer was a big part of West Ham's success this year. He has arguably become the best English keeper in the world.

GK: Jon Hooper - At 26, he is the youngest of the three keepers, but he has also played very well the last year or two.

Defenders:

Ben Bennett - The 29 year old centreback for Valencia doesn't have great physical abilities, but he plays so well. Arguably, he is my top centreback.

Chris Cohen - The versatile 31 year old can play any defensive position or in the midfield. He also doesn't have great physical skills, but is very sound fundamentally.

David Evans - The 25 year old centreback/midfielder is very good, but also lacks good physical skills..

Chris Miller - My 21 year old right back can also play centreback. He is the quickest of my defenders and is among the most talented.

Robert Morris - A 24 year old centreback who also doesn't have great physical skills but uses excellent positioning to play at a very high level. I have a lot of guys who are kind of slow, hopefully it doesn't bite me in the ass.

Alan Thomas - This 29 year old left back is quick, accelerates well, and is a great tackler. Also an excellent passer who can ignite the counterattack.

Midfielders:

Jamie Cook - The 26 year old isn't very fast, but is otherwise quite skilled.

Michael Corbett - This 21 year old from Tottenham is primarily on the squad for excellent speed and great penalty shooting ability. However, he is a good midfielder as well.

John Hall - This 26 year old left winger is probably better than Downing at this point. Doesn't have top notch speed, but has everything else I look for in a winger.

Matthew Harvey - This 27 year old right winger doesn't have great speed either, but also has everything else I'm looking for. Really has the potential to play at an elite level on the right wing.

Jack Lee - This 23 year old left winger has excellent speed and a good all around skill level.

Aaron Lennon - This 31 year old right winger is starting to lose his speed, but is still a very talented passer who can make plays.

Barry Parker - My 28 year old midfielder has an outstanding skill set and is probably my most mentally tough player on the squad. Love his long range shooting potential..

Paul Simpson - This 24 year old midfielder from Manchester City is a superb defensive midfielder who is also very tough mentally but also has great speed.

Forwards:

Wayne Rooney - The 32 year old striker is legendary. Need I say more?

Craig King - This 28 year old striker wasn't #2 on my team, but he is arguably #2 in England. Certainly will get some PT as he has a lethal shot and great off the ball skills.

Luke Moore - The 32 year old striker still has top notch speed and lethal finishing moves.

Nicky Platt - The 30 year old striker is slow and not that strong, but he manages to score many goals

Mark Tucker - The 25 year old Striker is now with Tottenham and I think he will have a resurgence soon. Not very fast, but he is a very skilled player.

Wayne Worthington - The 24 year old had a very impressive season with Coventry. He is arguably #2 ahead of King. Certainly will get some PT after his great season.

Overall, I'm very happy with our strikers and midfielders. I'm not as happy with the defense, particularly the centrebacks. My keepers should be good enough if the defense can protect them..

The media have openly questioned my leaving veterans Glen Johnson and Christopher Eagles off the squad. I disagree with that criticism as both were aging, and not doing so gracefully. However, they also questioned my putting Michael Corbett on the squad. I can understand that criticism. Hopefully, he will prove he belongs if I use him.

Wayne Rooney has won the European Golden Boot Award with his 26 league goals. Robbin Kieft of West Ham came in 2nd, and Rodrigo of Bordeaux came in 3rd.

The World Cup kicked off in Mexico today!

In a group A match, Brazil beat Canada 3-0 behind 2 goals by Josias. Adriano, my striker, had no goals or assists. Adriano, my keeper, played well this match.

In another group A match, Serbia & Mont tied the Republic of Congo 0-0.

Today we play Sweden in our first Group C Match. Sweden is a talented team centered around star striker Henrik Lantz. Henrik is a 29 year old striker who has starred for Juventus for the last few years. In 45 starts, he had 24 goals for them this year. He is fast, strong, and well skilled. Magnus Gustavsson anchors the defense. He isn't too fast, but plays with excellent positioning. Andreas Isaksson is a 36 year old keeper, but he is still in the upper tier of keepers. The midfield isn't strong, and there are no clear standouts.

They are probably the toughest team in my group.

We are 5-4 favorites.

It's raining with temperatures in the 60's.

GK: Taylor
DL: Thomas
DC: Morris
DC: Cohen
DR: Miller
ML: Hall
MC: Simpson
MC: Parker
MR: Harvey
SC: Rooney
SC: King

The rest of the team is eligible to come on as a sub (but max of 3.)

Today we play Uruguay in a match that we must win. Uruguay has a talented team with 3 main stars. Diego Cardozo is a very talented centreback who has served me well, but will now fight for his nation. Enzo Giovanni Scorza is a slow striker, but is a very talented striker who had 18 goals for Schalke 04 this year. Matias Buzo is a speedy striker who works well alongside his partner. He had 21 goals for Rostock this year. Martin Nunez is a 30 year old keeper played well for Sunderland this year.

We are 4-5 favorites.

It's sunny with temperatures in the 70's.
