FOFC's Favourite Movie - Opening Round (Part 4)

Moving on to part 4 as part 3 is getting set to close. The full bracket can be found here.

Some good match-ups in this next round. Spinal Tap gets a wild card at-large bid and I think honestly may have the best shot to pull off an upset as any seed near the very bottom.

The Great Escape v. On the Waterfront should also be a very close match between two older movies while Holy Grail v. Gran Torino could be good as well, although I feel like Python movies will be getting some good support in the tournament so it may not have too much trouble, particularly considering the fact that it is the holy grail of Python movies.

Looking at the bracket as a whole, I'm not sure I see The Dark Knight coming out on top to advance to the Sweet 16. Rocky is a movie that I could see making a spirited underdog run this tournament (221st seed!?) on this forum and assuming we see Rocky v. Holy Grail in round 2, the winner of that match could represent this bracket in the Sweet 16. The Shining also has to be considered as a serious contender though.

Additionally, for the benefit of MIJB#19 and others, I've tried to include the original foreign titles of films when I can in brackets following the film title.

This has probably been the easiest set of match-ups to choose from

I want to apologize for voting for the Dark Knight. While I've seen a good portion of Spinal Tap, I don't think I've seen the whole thing.

Spirited Away V Prisoners was a tough choice for me, as was Dark Knight V Spinal Tap..

Spirited Away and Prisoners couldn't be more different but both are great films. Gave it to Miyazaki though, because I think Villeneuve has made better films. Spinal Tap got the nod for me because it went to 11.

Thank you, that is very kind. It was actually helpful here again. I had no recollection of ever watching a movie named "Spirited Away", until I realized it was that animated movie.

I think this group had a couple of the most difficult choices.

Dark Knight versus Spinal Tap and Monty Python versus Gran Torino.

I can finally vote in these!

Network, The Great Escape and Once Upon a Time in America are movies I've yet to see, and I didn't think much of On The Waterfront so i abstained from those two matchups.

Heard nothing but great things about Tokyo Story, but I haven't seen it and 2001 is so iconic so I voted for 2001.

The Dark Knight, The Shining, Spirited Away, Rocky and Holy Grail were all relatively easy picks for me. Not that they weren't up against some really good movies. Against a lot of other movies, Spinal Tap would get the easy vote from me...but it had to go up against The Dark Knight.

Feel bad for Spinal Tap. Another movie that doesn't deserve to go out as quick as it will. Dark Knight is easily in my top 10 movies of all time though, so it wasn't a difficult vote.

Gran Torino got a terrible draw.
Great movie.
But how do you choose against The Holy Grail?

I had forgotten to follow up on the results and much to my relief, Dark Knight easily won. I saw the early returns showing it tied and I simply was rendered speechless.
