Started my new gig today........

I was hired as an assistant principal at the school I've been teaching at since 1995. I was first a student there in 1987, graduated in 1990, started coaching in 1991, teaching in 1995, and move up after an interview and a hire in May. I didn't want to jinx anything, so I didn't post anything. I am super fired up to move up and have a more positive impact on a wider number of kids. I am in charge of the "freshman academy", which is about 400 students at present. I taught in the academy for 7 years, before moving up to teach AP the last 4 years. Good times!

Congratulations! That is awesome man, how does it feel to almost come full circle here at that one facility? I know a guy who I went to high school with and he came back to our high school as assistant principal. I was hoping he would get the head job eventually, but his superior was young as well and he ended up accepting a head principal job at another school.

It's pretty cool. I can remember being the greenhorn, and now it's the exact opposite. There are 5 teachers on staff that I had as students in class. Not sure if I ever want to be a head principal, that would be pretty far down the road. I applied at a couple places last year, and had interviews. My wife told me it was for the best I didn't get them, that she knew where I'd end up/needed to be. Turned out she was right.

Hope you find it rewarding and fulfilling. Being the AP of a High School, from friends and acquaintances who are one, is not an easy gig.

Nice! But since you are an assistant principal does that mean you are in charge of the discipline?
