Can't put a player on LTIR until the season starts, which is (partly) why the Bruins traded Boychuk in preseason instead of just sticking Savard on there.

Blackhawks will be fine Chicago Blackhawks 2015 Salary Cap Table | Spotrac . Worst case they'll salary dump a Bickell, Versteeg or Seabrook because their contracts run out soon. (The Corey Crawford deal also continues to look bad for exactly the reasons predicted, but I don't think Toronto would want him for Horton.)

Agreed - was hoping that 1 or more of AMac, Vinny, or Grossmann would be headed out, but love the return we got for Kimmo and Coburn. Hextall said he didn't want to "shred" the team in the playoff race (a whopping 2.9% or something of a chance left) - hopefully he'll find some takers in the offseason. Though the plan seems to be more about 2017 and beyond

Pens trade Despres to the ducks to get Lovejoy back - seems like a big win for the Ducks to me, what am I missing?

Also continuing with the defensemen going back to a previous team Wisniewski back to the Ducks, for Karlsson and a second (plus the corpse of Rene Bourque) Don't hate that deal either outside of his contract which is a million or so too high. All in all a good deadline for the Ducks.

I remember many neutral zone turnovers from one James Wisniewski when he was a Duck. I am hopeful he is better about that now than he was, but his plus/minus totals don't suggest he has.

He was very very good last year and +/- really doesn't mean much, especially on a crappy team. I'm cautiously happy about both moves, although the contract is steep for Wiz. Both Depres and Wiz have some very nice looking advanced stats.

I like the fact that there is a plan and he will follow through with it even though there will be growing pains.

Homer would have bought during the deadline to get the Flyers into the 8 seed and only to have them lose in the first round.

I think THN has just teased the cover, I'm not sure when the issue actually comes out.

I'm not familiar with NHL contracts too much, but on the radio this morning some talking guys thought this contract was nuts. It does seem to be haha. Is there a way to defend this? I think they were worried that if he can command this money, what is Byfuglien worth?

I really like Boychuck. I think he's a really good player. Big, strong, defensively responsible and has a big shot on the power play. But $6 million a year over 7 years seems a bit excessive for him.

He was shaping up to get about that much on the open market, it seems - I had read a couple things around the deadline saying he would be the top FA defenseman and those guys always get paid. The term is probably longer though. I would have thought the Isles could have kept him for 5.5x5 or something similar. He basically beat out the Niskanen deal (7 years, $40MM) and that was with no one to negotiate against.

Regarding prospects, I quit getting THN years back, but still order the Future Watch every year. I'll post details once I have it.

Jets lost a stomach-punch game to the 'Hawks last night. I can't believe how crazy exciting these games down the stretch have been. Go Jets Go!

Good game between the Jets and Rangers thought. My apologies Fidatelo but I think your boy Byfuglien deserves to sit for a few games for that cross check to the back of JT Miller's neck. No injury though so spin the wheel...

If Buff has to sit that's fine, I think that game killed the Jets playoff chances anyways. They really, really needed at least a point. With 5 games left I think they now need to go 4-1 to get in, or at worst 3-1-1. Given the teams they are up against that will be an extremely tough road, and I don't think it's very likely.

Yeah, Hextall seems committed to building from within, which is refreshing. Just hopefully they don't miss Giroux/Voracek's prime window while rebuilding.

Not that Buff didn't earn his suspension, and all coaches are hypocrites, but giggled watching Vigneault say that's the worse he's seen. He must not have been paying attention in the playoffs last year, Staal on Crosby, about 3 times in one shift

Losing Duclair probably drops them pretty close to the bottom of the league.. but they do have a strong contention window at the moment.

Especially since Staal received no punishment at all.

President's Trophy for the Rangers.

Crazy endings impacting playoff races...Pens blow a late lead to Ottawa who wins in OT. Isles pull the goalie down 2, tie it up, only need a point to clinch a playoff spot...and Halak gives up an awful goal with 2 seconds left. Kings lose to Edmonton and can get knocked out with a loss to Calgary.

The Kings are just making it more dramatic. I won't count them out until the corpse is burned and the ashes are scattered.

Man, I'm going to be so amused if the Penguins miss the playoffs after all the taunting they directed towards the Flyers about missing the playoffs even though they beat them 4-1 twice in the last week.

I doubt it happens, but I'm sure Philly would be happy to lose to the Sens on Saturday to help even more.

I'm cool with it.

QFT. I'm convinced they are just seeing how close they can cut it and still win a Stanley Cup just because they are bored. Nobody loses to an unmotivated Oilers team otherwise.

Yeah, no kidding. They are just setting it up to end up in the 8 spot and so they would face the Ducks in Round One and somehow continue the Boudreau playoff curse.
