So I started another franchise a month or so ago and since I want to start fresh with the new verison, this will be our last year in the BM 08 universe!

I started with the Cardinals in 2007, mogul level.

Which brings us to 2009.

Now I will slow down this dynasty and get a little more in detail. If you would like to see anything from 2007-2009, just let me know. There are quite a bit more stats and what not if anyone wants to see numbers.

My goal this year is to finally win the Central Division, while trimming some payroll.

With Soriano now our closer, Izzy and his $4.0 Mil salary is now expendable. We shop him around and finally agree to trade him to the Chicago White Sox for 28 yr old RP Jeff Ridgway. Ridgway isn't much, but he's cheap!

Izzy's had a great career as a Cardinal and we wish him well in Chicago... at least it's not the Cubs!

I call the Cubs GM and inquire about Mark and when he calls me back, he wants rookie SP Jamie Garcia in return.

Jamie was called up last year in September and was stellar dispite what seemed liked normal scout ratings.. although he does have a nice upside.

Yep, (4-0) in 4 starts to end the season in 2008 and I penciled him in as our #5 in 2009. I took some time to ponder this trade as I'd gain $2.2 Mil in payroll, but I'd have a proven SP which is what I was looking for.

I sign the deal and Prior becomes a St. Louis Cardinal on Nov. 10th 2008 - in what would be our last transaction of 2008.

With the Prior trade, I needed to trim some more payroll and my first thought was SS David Eckstein. David's been great for us at leadoff, hitting 0.294, 0.292, 0.292, and 0.291 in his last 4 years as a Cardinal.

David is making $6.7 mil this year and 2008 backup Brendan Ryan hit 0.300 in 98 games, making this trade a good decision for this team.

On April 1st, 2009 we finalize a deal that sends David Eckstein to the Yankees for 31 year old SP Tim Redding. Redding pitched in AAA for the Yankees last year and went (8-3) with a 3.05 era. He'll provide a stop gap if one of our starters gets injured.

Alfredo Amezaga looks pretty good and is only asking for $800K. I glance over his stats for the last 3 years with Florida and I'm sold.

Spring is in the air and 2009 gets off to a bang!

Baltimore - 48,190 gathered on a cold and drizzly evening at Camden Yards to witness Red Sox starter Daisuke Matsuzaka craft a perfect game. Boston beat the Orioles by a score of 4-0 to earn thier 1st win of 2009.

Daisuke Matsuzaka gave up no earned runs on no hits and no walks to bring his 2009 ERA to 0.00.

Leadoff hitter Nick Punto contributed two hits in five at bats, with a steal and an RBI. Matsuzaka's perfect game was his 24th career win.

Before we get too deep into the 2009 season, lets preview the NL Central division starting with the 2008 NL Central Division Champion Cincinnati Reds.

Cincinnati Reds (93-69)

NL HR Leader and MVP Adam Dunn (48) and the Cincinnati Reds look to repeat as 08 division Champs. Dunn hit 12 less than his 2007 campaign, when he hit 60, but Adam added 122 rbi's and hit 0.292. Dunn has plenty of help in the power department too with LF Josh Hamilton hitting 40 hr's last year and 3 other starters hitting 20 or more.

SP Carlos Silva led the team with 13 wins, but all 5 starters had 10 wins or more. Eddie Guardado had 28 saves and Dennys Reyes had a stellar 2.16 era in 68 appearances.

Cincinnati also led the NL in attendace with a little over 4.5 million. They also made over $15 million in revenue.

Chicago lost out to the LA Dodgers for the wildcard by just 2 games.

Houston was just about .500 for the year. They played well at home (.617) and horrible on the road (.370).

They have a good lineup with Lance Berkman, Carlos Lee, and Hunter Pence. Lee lead the team in hr's with 35 and rbi's, 109.

Jon Garland, who the Astros acquired in 2007, led the team with 14 wins. Brad Lidge had 34 saves and a low 2.55 era while Dan Wheeler pitched in 72 games and had an excellent 2.89 era.

Houston lost about $6.2 million and attendance was right around 3.3 million.

Cardinals Embarrass Giants, 15-2 in season opener!

San Francisco - The St. Louis Cardinals brought their hit total for the year up to 18 by trouncing the San Francisco Giants 15-2 on a cool Sunday evening at ATT Park before 41,600 fans.

St. Louis number eight hitter Cody Haerther anchored the offense with two hits, three bases on balls, a home run, two runs scored and three runs batted in.

Ryan Zimmerman went five for five to raise his batting average to 1.000. Zimmerman is 5-for-5 so far this season.

Cleanup hitter Albert Pujols contributed two hits in four at bats, with a base on balls, a run scored and three runs batted in.

Shane Victorino added one hit, a walk, a steal, a double, four runs and three RBIs.

15-2, Pittsburgh Takes Lead From St. Louis

St. Louis - On Thursday at Busch Stadium, the Pittsburgh Pirates snatched the NL Central lead from the St. Louis Cardinals. The fifteen to two win brought the Pirates record to 2 and 1 and dropped the Cardinals record to 2 and 2.

St. Louis's offense got no help from their cleanup hitter, Albert Pujols, who neither scored nor drove in a run.

St. Louis's offense got little help from Alex Escobar, who couldn't score or drive in any runners.

Haerther's hitless performance for the Cardinals knocked his batting average down to 0.308.

The Pirates got a solid seven innings from Bryan Bullington. Bryan allowed eight hits and two earned runs in his 1st appearance of the year.

I see our backup Catcher, Ramon Castro is making $2.25M this year, so I shop him around.

Kansas City has the best offer, and a bit of a surprise as they offer up 25-year-old SS Angel Sanchez. His ratings are not as good as Castro, but he only makes $400K, so I make the move.

Doing this leaves me a hole at backup Catcher and I sign Ben Davis for $450K.

David's been great for us at leadoff, hitting 0.294, 0.292, 0.292, and 0.291 in his last 4 years as a Cardinal. David is making $6.7 mil this year and 2008 backup Brendan Ryan hit 0.300 in 98 games, making this trade a good decision for this team. On April 1st, 2009 we finalize a deal that sends David Eckstein to the Yankees for 31 year old SP Tim Redding. Redding pitched in AAA for the Yankees last year and went (8-3) with a 3.05 era. He'll provide a stop gap if one of our starters gets injured.

San Francisco - The St. Louis Cardinals brought their hit total for the year up to 18 by trouncing the San Francisco Giants 15-2 on a cool Sunday evening at ATT Park before 41,600 fans. St. Louis number eight hitter Cody Haerther anchored the offense with two hits, three bases on balls, a home run, two runs scored and three runs batted in. Ryan Zimmerman went five for five to raise his batting average to 1.000. Zimmerman is 5-for-5 so far this season. Cleanup hitter Albert Pujols contributed two hits in four at bats, with a base on balls, a run scored and three runs batted in. Shane Victorino added one hit, a walk, a steal, a double, four runs and three RBIs.

The fifteen to two win brought the Pirates record to 2 and 1 and dropped the Cardinals record to 2 and 2. St. Louis's offense got no help from their cleanup hitter, Albert Pujols, who neither scored nor drove in a run. St. Louis's offense got little help from Alex Escobar, who couldn't score or drive in any runners. Haerther's hitless performance for the Cardinals knocked his batting average down to 0.308. The Pirates got a solid seven innings from Bryan Bullington. Bryan allowed eight hits and two earned runs in his 1st appearance of the year.

Kansas City has the best offer, and a bit of a surprise as they offer up 25-year-old SS Angel Sanchez. His ratings are not as good as Castro, but he only makes $400K, so I make the move. Doing this leaves me a hole at backup Catcher and I sign Ben Davis for $450K.
