PureSim Baseball 3 Goes Gold

I just submitted the gold master to Wolverine, so assuming all goes smoothly we should have PureSim Baseball 3 released tonight or at the latest, tomorrow.

There are 75+ new features and enhancements, and it is the most excited I have ever been about a PureSim release. TRU-Life transaction mode is a unique feature to career sims, it lets you play out a season and the transactions are executed exactly as they happened in real life. Add to that manager tendencies that let you tweak hundreds of situational decisions as well as every manager that has managed since 1900 modeled and automatically assigned to the appropriate teams as history progresses.

Tons of new "modability" too..

Here is a high level list of what is new.

Check back here later or in the AM and I'll post a link to the demo.

Shaun

I still have yet to dive head first into a Puresim. What exactly separates this from an OOTP type program?

I really enjoyed the free version. I liked it alot better then Mogul. As for OOTP, Ive never played it.

I may have to buy this game though. Puresim reminds me a lot of the SI board game I played and played growing up.

Does the game track managers' career records?

Do players become managers?

Forgive me for asking, but was this free if you bought Puresim 2? I thought I remember something like that, but it could have been the previous release.

That's what I thought I remembered, but I didn't want to seem like a cheapskate.

As with any product each one has benefits, but as someone who participated in the open Beta for PureSim3 and considered OOTP 11, here is what I like better about PS 3.

1. It is simpler. The navigation is less complicated, you don't have to worry about options, 40 man rosters, etc. It is designed to simulate MLB but you can create a number of league structures with fictional players. No scouting at all.
2. Shaun has invested a lot of time in roster, lineup and Trade AI. We really tested and feel that it presents are very large challenge.
3. I love the early import option. It allows you to simulate the minor leagues very well with historical options.
4. Two different development engines for historical sims. Tru-life uses historical stats (3 year smooth) to change ratings over time while organic uses historical stats to create a profile of the player but the development engine drives the ratings development. Stars remain good but you will see breakout players.
5. Tru-Life transactions is an interesting twist. There is no trading and all roster movement is driven by real life. You can start with any year after 1946 for that mode although back to 1925 is under development.
6. Historical stats engine is very good.
7. All Owners of PS 2 get PS 3 for free.

As to Swaggs questions about managers. The historical modes use real life managers and they change as they did in real life during Spring Training. You can import different historical managers with or change the preferences of that manager.. It does not track records of the managers.

Feel free to ask any more questions once the game comes out.

For historical players, I'd recommend picking up the recently created logo installer that I created. A new feature of the game is that the team logos will auto-magically update each season if you have the logos installed and named correctly. My installer takes care of all the work for you... It's at the very top of the PureSim/Logos page on my Mod Website.

Free for PS2 Owners

I should have mentioned that! If you bought PureSim 2 you are also the lucky owner of PS3. I made that promise early on and it sticks.

I didn't realize I would add so much, but hey, a promise is a promise. When it is released, if you have a purchased copy of PS2, PS3 will be fully functional upon install.

You should add a PayPal "donate" button to your PS3 download for PS2 owners. I'm sure some folks might be willing to help out an indy developer in such ways.

The game is now available - if any PS2 owners do want to help out the PureSim crew they are of course welcomed to purchase another license

I have to say the amount of updates is staggering in PS3 and some really, really cool ideas too. Can't wait to try and incorporate some of them in future builds of my own games

Congrats Shaun - great work as always!!!

Will download this soon.

One question.

Has the free agency improved? Playing a sandbox career in 2 and it seems like there are way too many top talent guys still unsigned as the season starts. A player that led one of the leagues in homeruns for two straight years and was the career leader in homeruns, slugging percentage and RBI's was a free agent for two years without benig signed. He was only 32 when this all started (only 5 years into the sandbox league at that time) and still had killer ratings but sat there with a 20+ million dollar asking price.

I didn't sign him because I has a 23 year old at that position who was just rookie of the year and had the ratings and potential to have a great career (still could if he can stay healthy but injuries are hurting him, missed half of the season last year but still had 32 homeruns and 85 RBI's while hitting .380).

Kansas City is apparently gonna be my personal farm team. They dealt me Soria for Weaver and Greinke for Wolf.

I thought at first there might be an issue with the trade AI, but I've tried to trade for other big names (Lincecum, Pujols, etc) and I haven't been able to acquire those guys at all.

So there's probably just something weird about Wolf and Weaver that's got the AI salivating over them.

The runner's going on an 0-2 pitch, the pitch is a strike, the runner steals second safely...

The batter gets to stay up and single him home.

Yep. Glad I downloaded the demo first.

You should report it on the bug thread for Shaun to fix. The game just got released and if a small bug like this would turn you off then that is unfortunate. PS 3 really might not cater to FOFC crowd here as I am thinking the majority of folks here are geared more to the fictional or at least GM style career play with trading implemented. Shaun does have that as modes but he has in no uncertain terms laid out his target audience as being more the historical strat o matic type replayers which I do n ot think there a re alot of here.

Thanks I have logged this as a bug report. I haven't been able to reproduce it yet, but will keep trying until I see it.

I hope you are enjoying the game otherwise.

That seems to be the path the game has taken and probably why I've been more into ootp.. although that doesn't mean I won't give it some playing time.

Actually for me that is the only reason I might buy it after trying Strat getting a refund on the PC game this just might be the best option for realistic historical MLB replayers.

Not really true. I am trying to expand the market for the game to Strat and DMB for sure, but Fictional is still a featured mode, and I even added an Organic mode that lets you play with real players but have it be ratings-based, kind of between fictional and real.

Looking forward to DLing this and giving it a whirl hopefully this weekend!!!

Curious to try out this new mode, as I love long-term historical play, and i think some of the new playing modes involving historical play might make it really interesting!!

I'm actually fairly surprised you'd consider it a "small" bug. It directly impacts the integrity of the manager mode, and unless Shaun has separate simulation engines for the play-by-play simulation and the broad overview simulation, it impacts the entire game - you just don't *see* it unless you're managing each game.

No, the game doesn't blow up when I click a particular option, but that is not, by any stretch, a "small" bug.

I see, however, that Shaun has logged it, so I will refrain from further comment on the topic.

I'll tell you this. The tru-life transaction mode is absolutely incredible for career historical play. That along with the fact that the game has real managers with their real tendencies included makes this a hell of a game for historical players. I have been an OOTP guy for a long time, but have played the heck out of puresim since this version has come out.
