That was a pretty awesome episode. Almost the best I have seen since Season 1, I think, with the lone exception being the Battle of Blackwater Bay (2.9).

I liked it a lot as well. I'm starting to come to grips with the TV way of including characters when they become relevant to the plot. I think they've done a good job of illustrating what a character is like in a short period of time, especially here with the Blackfish, Edmure, and Ramsay.

Out of many awesome parts, I think my favorite moment was the way they chose to end it, and then they jumped right into the credits with that boisterous cover of Maiden Fair or whatever it was (was that Dropkick Murphys, BTW?). I mean, I knew what was about to happen to Jaime, of course, but the way they did it and jumped to those credits had me somewhere between disbelief and laughter.

That song choice was so weird it broke me out of that immediate final scene shock which I'm not sure was the intent of the creators.

i read the books and am confused about the Theon escape..... who ambushed the guys that caught up with him? did Ramsey get shot with an arrrow?

I would think some kind of quality control is in place and someone watches the show start to finish a few times before it airs. I have to think just about anyone would have commented on that. So I think it was intentional.

I think this show might be more enjoyable for those of us who don't know what is coming. There was a split second of "what just happened there?", then the realization that he just chopped his hand off. Nice!

Have we for sure seen a named character Ramsey, or have we only assumed who Ramsey is? Watched with my GF, I had read and she hadn't. She definitely got more enjoyment out of it, though I knew ahead of time to entertain myself with her reaction.

i think this is exactly what is happening...i think they set us up to assume that the guy doing the torture last week was Ramsey, and in fact it will be the guy that rescued him

I can't actually remember what he said, so I will take on faith you're right that that's what he said. And given that, it would be an interetsing and astute observation.

Consider how we use the term bastard today. It certainly still has its plain meaning, but the derogatory nature of being "born out of wed lock" is pretty much lost to history at this point. So instead the word has evolved into a simple pejorative, more like calling someone an asshole, but with less oomph. And, really, it's so commonly just tossed out there, that even as a pejorative term, it's pretty light. It's shrugged off if said in anger, and it's more likely used in friendly banter and ribbing, then it is to actually insult.

So when we hear it, it doesn't even register anymore (like me, I can't remember what the man told the rescuer before he died) or it's just another everyday term.

But in the world of Westeros, "bastard" is a very real term with a real meaning, and when it is used, it is intended as a harsh insult. We have seen Jon Snow suffer under the weight of it numerous times. So we as viewers shrug it off, but within the culture of the show, I'll bet that is a very telling quote from the man before he died.

I would be pretty shocked if Theon's rescuer did not turn out to be the Bastard himself.

In the books, Sansa spills the beans about the Tyrell's plans to Ser Dontos, the drunk knight she saved in CoK (or the 1st episode of S2), during one of her Godswood visits.

Dontos tells Littlefinger, Littlefinger tells the Small Council so she doesn't get whisked away before he can whisk away with her. They're changing the motives around a bit, but I think it'll still go through.

5 star episode all around. Just like the source material, everything from now to the end of the season should be top shelf.

That was one of the best episodes of the season, if not the show.

The final scene was fantastic. I had pretty high expectations for it, since it's one of the best in the book as well and they aboslutely nailed it. Wonderfully shot and acted. Emilia Clarke really channeled her inner-Drogo there.

I also really liked how the scene at Craster's unfolded. The Cersei/Tywin scene was great as was the Varys/Queen of Thorns scene.

Great stuff.

I think the Dany scene was one of my most anticipated scene from the books. It is closely followed by the other major scene coming this season. I was so excited to see it play out on the screen. Just such a sweet turn of events (and one the few big surprise turns that are positives in the whole series).

I think the lady that is playing Olenna Tyrell has been great. She's gotten in a number of memorable quotes.

As I've said before, Dany's chapters were always the least favourite of mine in the books - the first 3, anyway. I enjoy them 100x more in the TV series for some reason and last night was amazing.

I do wish they'd had her riding the horse during her speech like in the book, but still a great scene. I do worry that

they're kind of messing with the Sam the Slayer storyline. Unless he and Gilly come back to the farm now (which should happen for Sam to talk to the Old Bear) and meet up with Grenn or someone else, none of the Night's Watch are going to see him kill the Other (I am assuming the show can't cut that out).

Also, I've seen a number of people saying they're messing with the Sansa plot, but I think they're tracking the book there, with the possible exception of eliminating Willas Tyrell and actually using Loras as the potential groom.

I thought they (Ghost?) uncovered some at the Fist of the First Men at the end of last season, but even if I'm right, it definitely didn't get the attention it deserved - even one brief conversation where they take it to the Lord Commander and he says "Well, if the First Men felt the need to bury it, we should probably hold on to it" would've been better. I don't even recall if Sam took any.

I think the implication during the Ros/Varys scene was that the whores had already been paid - probably by Tyrion - and told to return the gold that Tyrion/Pod gave them at the time. That would mean that Tyrion was testing Pod's loyalty by seeing if he would return the gold, or (seeing as he has his own story about losing his virginity, and he's taken a liking to Pod) helping his confidence, or both.
