The match report for the Everton match is kind of boring, eh?
Not the full table of players' feelings and status and goals...

As if we needed this, César Augusto Fawcett strained his groin and is at first said to miss 2 weeks. You're probably beginning to learn that groin=rehab, and yep, it does. He'll miss 3 weeks while attending physiotherapy.
Andrew Johnson played well for the England U21 squad, playing the whole game, rating at 8 and collecting an assist.

Craig Crane makes a public apology to my attention for telling the media that he was disillusioned at not being picked for the first team. He admitted that he should respect any decisions that I make and he realises that complaining publicly is not going to improve his chances of selection. Good boy...

October 8, 2011
From one good boy to the ungrateful bastage we go as Jeppe Lund Curth, almost three months before time, goes public and announces that he will leave the club at the end of his contract on a free transfer under the Bosman ruling. He added that he feels he needs a new challeneg and will the the opportunity to leave for nothing when his present deal expires. Well, there goes any chance of getting some money for him, BASTAGE! I still try to offer him to a bunch of teams, asking first $3M, then only $1M. Absolutely nobody is interested...

Today is a Euro 2012 qual day...
Anthony Vanden Borre was in magnificent form, impression both pundits and managers for the whole game. He rated at 8 as a right fullback for Belgium.
Ross McCormack scored two goals in Scotland's 11-0 win over Luxembourg. He rated at 10, one of six 10's for Scotland.

October 11, 2011
It was Andrew Johnson's turn to be in magnificent form in England U21's 1-1 draw against Austria.

October 12, 2011
Ross McCormack
scored another goal for Scotland, but he also suffered a bruised thigh and will miss three days. Our next match is in 3 days, grrr.
Stephen Pearson also played in that game for Scotland and even though he only played the last 29 minutes of the game, he also scored a goal. Both players rated at 8.

League Match #9: we play Newcastle at Loftus Road. They're only two points ahead of us in 10th place, but we have a game on hand over them. They are 4-6 favourites to win this game.

They are struggling with injuries of their own, with three players out and one who'S doubtful. All these injuries happened in the last 4 days.

Both team played on October 5.

Ross McCormack is still not 100% after suffering an injury in his last international game. We will play a 4-1-2-2-1, or basically an attacking 4-5-1 formation, that looks like this:

Tom Howell is in for César Augusto Fawcett.

Danny Shittu could have been back in the lineup, but James Collins has played well in his last few league games. I hope he won't make me regret it.

Fábio Rochemback is back in the lineup but I'll have Li Tie ready in case he gets tired from not being match fit.

We take the lead in the 16th minute, on a sweet center from Marcus Kelly. Kelly went all the way to the byline before centering the ball backward to Clemens Fritz who was waiting on the edge of the 6 yard box, in front of an empty net. That was Fritz's first goal of the season.

They tie on a beautiful top corner kick in the 21st minute.

The half ends with the score at 1-1. They're outshooting us 6(3) to 3(2) but we're puttin tons of pressure on their defenders.

The second half goes scoreless even though we did put pressure until the very last minute. We just never got good shots on goal.

Final Score: 1-1

Marcus Kelly is named Man of the Match with a rating of 9. Kasper Schmeichel got rated at 6 though...

We drop to 12th place and looking at it, we're oly 5 points ahead of 17th, better watch out...

Euro Cup Group B, Match #1: we play CSKA Moscow. They are 6-4 favourites to win this game.

We are getting into a crazy stretch of 7 games in 20 days, look at this:
10/20 Euro Cup
10/23 EPL
10/26 League Cup
10/29 EPL
11/03 Euro Cup
11/06 EPL
11/09 EPL

Only then will we get a break as the next game after the 9th is on the 19th...

We need Kasper Schmeichel to get back on track as ratings of 6 won't help us much in that stretch.

This game is on TV and key mean are presented as Youssouf Hersi for us and Jiri Jarosik, an inner midfielder in their 5-3-2 formation, for them.

TEAMtalk.com's prediction: A draw is on the cards in this game as I can see Q.P.R. and CSKA Moscow cancelling each other. Not one fot he neutral in my opinion.

All their players are at 100% condition while most of ours run from 95 to 98%.

In the 16th minute, after having been denied many times already, the ball goes back to Craig Crane who's playing a bit forward from his fullback position and he finds Marcus Kelly on the other wing, all alone. He doesn't miss his chance and makes it 1-0.

It's Youssouf Hersi to Andrew Johnson in the 21st minute. AJ doesn't waste time trying to advance the bal and fires a powerful shot from 20 yards out to score the 2-0 goal.

We add a third goal before the half is over when, in the 44th minute, Marcus Kelly centers Tom Howell's short corner perfectly to Danny Shittu's head. He makes it 2-0.

And what's with the handballing from the Russians??? On the ensuing kickoff, and for the second time in the game since they did it on the opening kickoff too, one of their player handballs and is consequently given a yellow card...

The half ends with us ahead 3-0. We're outshooting them 10(7) to 8(3).

The second half goes scoreless as we controlled the ball, not taking chances, mostly shooting from long range.

Final Score: 3-0

Youssouf Hersi is named Man of the Match with a rating of 10. He completed 16 of 19 passes, 7 of them key passes. Anthony Vanden Borre received a form rating of 9 while everybody but the bench, Crane, and McCormack getting ratings of 8.

Chris Chapman suffered a chest injury and will miss 5 days.

We've been awarded $160k for the win.

requests to be transfer listed. I reject the request. You may not like it, but I need you with us...

League Match #10: We play Aston Villa on their pitch. They're having a great start to their season and are currently in 3rd place. They are 4-6 favourites to win this game, but we beat them 2-0 in a preseason friendly.

Mathew Sadler is in at left fullback as I need Tom Howell to serve as Marcus Kelly's backup.

Both teams played in the Euro Cup on October 20.

They score the first goal of the game from short range on the right in the 28th minute. At that point, they were outshooting us 6(2) to a mere 2(1).

The half ends with us down 0-1. We got back in the game and they're now outshooting us 7(3) to 5(2).

In the 66th minute, we repeat the short corner trick. This time, it's Stephen Pearson taking the corner, short to Tom Howell, who centers it perfectly to Danny Shittu's head (who else). Shittu directs it past the keeper for the equalizer, silencing the home crowd.

42 seconds into an announced 2 minutes of injury time, Quincy Owusu Abeyie caps a nice Q.P.R. move that ended in a nice pass from Matt Cross to his feet. Abeyie seals the deal with a goal on his debut!!!

Final Score: 2-1

They outshot us but barely, 10(4) to 8(4), but it's a sweet win!!! A great team effort, with 8 of our players rated at 8.

We move up to 10th.

Arsčne Wenger, still managing Manchester City, tells me that his sid is relishing the opportunity to test their skills when our sides meet at Loftus Road in our League Cup match. Speaking ot a journalist from TEAMtalk.com, Wenger stated that his side would do their best to match Q.P.R. and he hoped it would be a cracking game.

Following his comment, Andrew Johnson is happy I'm getting the praise I deserve while Anthony Vanden Borre and Marcus Kelly both believe the team cannot fail to perform whilst under my guidance.

While looking at Wenger's profile, I go WOAH! I'm listed in his list of preferred personnel. Wow, that's the first time I see my name in anybody's list, pretty cool

I decide to reply to his praise with a praise of my own, simply praising my friend Arsčne Wenger.

League Cup Round 3: we play Manchester City at Loftus Road. They are currently in 12th in the Premiership, so very close to us, and are evens favourites to win this game.
They are also in the Euro Cup, so they've also played a lot recently, and similar to us, they're battling some injuries of their own. I also want to keep in mind that we play Arsenal in three days. I won't throw this one, but if there's any way, I'll try to rest some players to be able to play a good game against Arsenal, since it's league play while this game here is the League Cup.

I forgot to the pregame lineup for this one. You can click the following thumbnail to see the postgame lineup, from which I stripped the condition and game ratings.

Paul Davis is in at keeper and we've shaken up our roster quite a bit. Stephen Pearson and Anthony Vanden Borre will completely sit this one out.
We're on fire to start the game and Clemens Fritz does what he does so well, A FRITZ!!! From the center line, he dribbled the ball going from the middle to middle-right then back, past two opponents before striking one with fury. The keeper got his hand on it, but the shot goes in anyway. Up 1-0!

They tie the game in the 10th minute when Danny Shittu misses a rare header in our penalty area. The ball goes to a striker who buries it. 1-1.

Clemens Fritz scores his second of the night when he picked up a nice pass from Marcus Kelly and his shot got deflected by a defender. Up 2-1.

Clemens Fritz is again in the middle of the action, as he sets up Youssouf Hersi perfectly. Hersi scores one off the post. Up 3-1.

The Fritz show continues as he scores another goal in the 40th minute to complete his HAT TRICK!!!

The half ends with us ahead 4-1. Wow, we're outshooting them 8(6) to 2(1). I decide to pull Fritz from the game. He ends it with 3 goals, an assist and a rating of 10.

In the 55th minute, we go to a 4-2-2-1-1 formation. Igor Biscan goes in for Andrew Johnson and Tom Howell goes in for Marcus Kelly.

Final Score: 4-1

We outshot them 14(9) to 6(2) on the game and I achieved what I wanted, which was keep my wingers, and both my strikers somewhat rested. Ross McCormack didn't even play.

Clemens Fritz is named Man of the Match with a rating of 10 and 3 goals and an assist in only 45 minutes of play. We had 6 other at 8, including Danny Shittu who won 10 of 11 headers. How about that, the one header he missed cost us a goal. That speaks volume about the importance of good heading skills for a centreback.

We've been awarded $52k for the win and we're through to round 4.

Wow, talk about beating up on Man City!!!

I love it, he pulled a Fritz.

Good read so far, FM. I was beginning to go through withdrawal yesterday with the lack of updates.

César Augusto Fawcett
resumes full training. The specialist who treated him is optimistic that he's recovered fully from his injury.

Michael Laudrup, the current Arsenal manager, speaks highly of me in the media. In the build-up to our Premier Division clash on Saturday that he truly hopes the best team win. He also comment that I'm a good manager and I derserve every succes with The Rs.

That's nice

Following the comment, Danny Shittu and Andrew Johnson are pleased to see I'm getting the praise I deserve while Marcus Kelly again feels the team cannot fail to perform whilst under my guidance. Hmm, somebody remind me to give this guy a raise soon

I respond accordingly, stating I admire him very much. However, I also informed journalists from Football365.com that I hope that on Saturday, the best team wins.

October 29, 2011
Jeppe Lund Curth
resumes full training following his neck injury. Anybody care about him anymore? We got kids capable of taking your place... booooooo

The draw for the 4th round of the League Cup happens. There are 16 teams left and we'll play West Brom on their pitch, on November 9. Looking at my list of fixtures, I see that we will play them in league play, on their pitch again, on November 6. I find that odd and remember we had a similar back to back situation last season with a game in the FA Cup. Turns out it was also against West Brom, but both games had been played at Loftus Road. We ended up winning the FA Cup match 3-1, on our way to win it all, and drawing the league match 1-1.

League Match #11: we play Arsenal at Loftus Road. They're having a rough start to the season with 5 wins, 3 draws and 2 losses and are currently only in 6th place. They are 1-2 favourites to win this game.

Given how relatively low Arsenal are in the standings, compared to where they usually sit, this game scares me. I fear that they're due to switch gears and may use us as punching bags to go back on a winning streak to fight for the title.

Our next game is in 5 days in Spain against Athletic Club.

Anthony Vanden Borre starts for Fábio Rochemback in the DMC spot and Stephen Pearson starts for Youssouf Hersi in the AMC spot.

The game is on TV and key men are presented as Stephen Pearson for us and José Antonio Reyes for Arsenal. They note that Reyes has scores 9 goals in 13 appearances so far this season.

bbc.co.uk/sports' prediction: I fancy Arsenal to win this one. People will argue that Arsenal have a poor away record, but Q.P.R. can't seem to get a win from anywhere at the moment.

That's a funny statement, considering we've won our last three game 3-1, 2-1, and 3-0. Not that I'm questioning him picking Arsenal to win, but his reasoning is a bit flawed to say the least...

Arsenal show a 4-2-3-1 formation to start the game.

Well, crap, crap, crap. Following a long throw from David Marek Rozehnal very deep in their zone, to a spot where not one teammate was standing. They take it the whole way, center it and score. With only 77 seconds done in the game, we're down 0-1, just like that. Everybody feels down after that goal.

Luckily, we regrouped and that was they only goal of the half, despite them trying 9 shots but putting only 2 on target. We shot 3 times, putting one on target and we're winning possession with a respectable 54% split 14-24-16.

But damn it, Ross McCormack is just not there. He's rated at 4 at the half and Kasper Schmeichel still has not recovered from the early goal and is rated at 5. It takes everything I have not to pull McCormack from the game at that point.

I eventually pull him in the 73rd minute and replace him with Quincy Owusu Abeyie who will be facing his former team.

We really turned it up a few notches in the second half, putting tons of pressure on their defense, but we can't buy a goal...

Final Score: 0-1

We outshot them 13(5) to 11(3) on the game, meaning we outshot them 10(4) to 2(1) in the second half. More proof that we were dominating the second half is that half possession figure which shows us with again 54%, but split 5-21-28.

Marcus Kelly had a nice game with a rating of 8, but we had many with a down game. Ross McCormack ends the game with a 5 while Anthony Vanden Borre and Kasper Schmeichel are rated at 6.

I guess it could be seen as a good sign that I'm really pissed about losing. Not only losing, but losing to Arsenal. We could have won that game darn it!!!

We're staying put in 10th position. Arsenal move up to 3rd with their win.

Clemens Fritz suffered a chest injury in the game and will miss 5 days.

I issue a formal warning to Ross McCormack for his poor performance in the game. It's kind of blunt and a moment after issuing the warning, I feel kinda nervous he'll get pissed and it will affect his play. What a relief when I hear that he has apologised for his performance in his previous match and admits that he deserved his official warning. He understands that senior squad members have to lead by example and has said that he will try to motivate himself more for future matches. Great! I like that attitude!

The team board is still delighted. Me happy

Tom Howell earns our only monthly award as he his selected as the English Premier Division Young Player of the Month, sweeet! He had form ratings of 7, 8, and 7 in his three league matches in October.

Li Tie
suffers a groin strain and is initially said to be missing two weeks. As we now know with groin injury, they rarely are simply what they are. My physios recommend I send him see a specialist, which I do. GRRR, he will miss four weeks while attending physiotherapy treatments.

Southend want Paul Davies back for another three month loan. They didn't learn and they try again to have him without the recall clause. I had it and send the couteroffer their way.

Euro Cup Group B, Match #2: we're in Spain to play Athletic Club Bilbao on their pitch. They are 4-5 favourites.

Again, I forgot to save the pregame lineup, but you can still see the postgame lineup, stripped from the subs and conditions, by clicking the following thumbnail. Sorry about that.

Despite not being really match fit, César Augusto Fawcett is back in as the starting left fullback.

I keep Clemens Fritz on the bench, despite his low condition due to his injury in our last match. He could come in handy late in the game and we're allowed to have 7 players on the bench, even though we can't use more than the usual 3. Stephen Pearson starts on the right wing.

Athletic Club show an interesting, albeit narrow 4-3-1-2 formation. That's 4 defenders as usual, then 3 MC, 1 AMC and 2 SC with outside arrows. All their players show 100% condition.

In the 23rd minute, but after putting a lot of pressure, Andrew Johnson caps a wonderful Q.P.R. move and puts us in the lead, 1-0. That was our 5 shot on target already.

The half ends with us ahead 1-0. We're outshooting them 8(5) to 3(0). An intense half and we're running around a bit more than we can afford to, especially on the wings. Marcus Kelly's condition is at 73% while Youssouf Hersi's is at 73%.

They tie the game in the 54th minute after we let a corner kick go through our whole penalty area without clearing the ball. Tied at 1-1.

In the 67th minute, Fábio Rochemback plays a free kick forward to Ross McCormack on the edge of their penalty area. He goes past one defender and drives a shot low that the keeper can't pare. We go up by one!

We go to our late game 4-2-2-1-1 formation. Ross McCormack suffered a minor injury earlier in the game so I pull him out and put in Igor Biscan in the extra DMC spot.

Clemens Fritz goes in for Stephen Pearson and Tom Howell goes in for Marcus Kelly. This last move gave us an incredible boost in possession and proved to be the killer for Athletic Club.

Final Score: 2-1

We outshot them 19(11) to 9(3). I tell you, we had many great plays coming from the wing in the last 20 minutes.

Their keeper is named Man of the Match with a rating of 9 but he was the only one with a rating above 7. Marcus Kelly received a rating of 9 while Anthony Vanden Borre, Danny Shittu, David Marek Rozehnal and Ross McCormack all got rated at 8. Nice to see McCormack bounce back from his atrocious game against Arsenal.

We've been awarded $160k for this second win in Euro Cup group play and after our first two games, the standings in Group B look great for us...

Funny thing, I didn't even realize that this game, as all other Euro Cup group play games, was on TV. Sorry about that...

Dang! Alan Curbishley has been sacked by Bolton Wanderers chairman Phil Gartside. I can already hear you saying something like "hrm, okay, and?" Well, pundits in the media are already speculating that high-profile assistant manager Bruno Conti could be tempted to quit Q.P.R. for Reebok Stadium. Oh no! I like Conti, I trust him, I feel like he's got a good eye to evaluate talent. I guess it could certainly happen that a 56 year old assistant with continental reputation would like to have his own job as a manager. I'll be on the lookout...

League Match #12: we play West Brom on their pitch. They're currently in 4th place, slipping from the 3rd place they'd been occupying for so long. They are 5-4 favourites to win this game.

This is the first of a back-to-back series, since we'll play them again in 3 days in round 4 of the League Cup.

Igor Nadal Lázaro gets the start and Andrew Johnson will sit this one out.

Anthony Vanden Borre starts at DMC while Fábio Rochemback also sits this game out.

Craig Crane takes the right fullback spot.

I swap Stephen Pearson and Marcus Kelly, wing for wing, making Pearson the left winger and Kelly the right winger.

Only 94 seconds into the game I see the dreaded words: "Mr Styles wants to talk to Stephen Pearson" Ohhhh crap. Been a while since we've seen the dude... QUICK, EVERYBODY EASE ON YOUR TACKLES!!!

The half ends scoreless even though we've put 5 of our 9 shots on target. What do we have to do to buy a goal??? We shut them down of any scoring chances in that first half.

In the 72nd minute, Quincy Owusu Abeyie finds Igor Nadal Lázaro in between their two centrebacks. he starts running and as he is about to be caught from behind, he sees that their keeper has rushed out, a bit too eager to put pressure on him. He chips the ball over the keepers head and it goes in. What a fabulously perfect strike to pu us up 1-0!!!

They go to a 4-2-4 formation in the 74th minute and I reply by putting us into a 4-2-2-2 formation. That's 2 DMC, MR/ML, then 2 strikers. Ben Watson is put in the second DMC spot.

We hang on!!!

Final Score: 1-0

We outshot them 21(12) to 4(1). Not only did we hang on, we pretty much dominated them.

Their keeper is named Man of the Match with a rating of 9, again the only one on their team with a rating above 7.

César Augusto Fawcett, Marcus Kelly, Anthony Vanden Borre, and Igor Nadal Lázaro all rated at 8.

We've done this for a couple games now, and I realize I really like having Clemens Fritz coming off the bench in the beginning or the middle of the second half, against tired defenders. His relative lack of stamina renders him ineffective in the second half when he's the starter, but he's amazingly good when coming off the bench...

Ben Watson suffered a chest injury in the game and will miss 5 days.

We're in 10th place following the win, but with a game on hand over the teams in 5th through 7th place. It's still really tight...

League Cup Round 4: we play West Brom (again) on their pitch (again). They are 5-4 favourites to win this game (again). Before the game, I hope to beat the odds (again).

16 teams are left at this point in the Cup. The winner is through to the Quarter Finals. In the other games played in this 4th round, there is one big matchup as Chelsea and Arsenal have been drawn to play each other, Chelsea being at home.

Anthony Vanden Borre goes back to right full back while Fábio Rochemback takes back his spot at DMC.

Both wingers don't change and since our next game is only in 10 days, when we'll play Chelsea, I won't worry too much about keeping players fresh for yet another match in three days. This means I may leave whoever is playing well a bit longer if necessary.

After comparing them closely, I decide to keep a match fit Quincy Owusu Abeyie over a completely unfit Jeppe Lund Curth.

David Marek Rozehnal is back in at centreback and James Collins is out.

We injured their right winger in the game we played three days ago and overall, their conditions seem a bit lower than ours. I guess we just got used to playing every three days, since we've been doing this non stop for three weeks

They show a 4-4-2 formation with long arrows on the wingers.

Not even a minute has been played in the first half, 59 seconds to bexact, when Ross McCormack is tackled on the edge of their penalty area. The referee applies the advantage rule and it's a good thing since Youssouf Hersi picks up the ball and scores one off the post!

They tie it in the 10th minute after a short throw in is picked up an centered to the far post. Kasper Schmeichel is right there, but their striker is able to head it in anyway. 1-1.

36 seconds into injury time of the first half, Andrew Johnson is entering their penalty area when he gets upended. The referee points the spot... PENALTY!!! Ross McCormack scores the 2-1 goal!

The half ends with us ahead 2-1. We are outshooting them 8(6) to 4(2).

I didn't make any changes at the half, but in the 63rd minute, I switch both wingers. Stephen Pearson is replaced by Tom Howell on the left wing and Marcus Kelly is replaced by Clemens Fritz on the right.

Dang! Tom Howell has to go out, injured, in the 75th minute. We go to a 4-2-2-2 formation, without any attacking midfielder and I move Hersi to the left wing, while bringing in Igor Biscan to play the extra DMC spot.

In the 89th minute, as they are putting a ton of pressure on our defense, they get a free kick just outside our penalty area. BRILLIANT SAVE by Kasper Schmeichel who tips it to a corner. Their keeper joins the attack on that corner, but we're able to prevent them from using the extra player.

2:13 into injury time, Clemens Fritz brings the ball in their penalty area from the right wing. Ross McCormack and Andrew Johnson are near the net. Fritz passes the ball to McCormack but the keeper stops his shot. However, he lets go of the ball and Andrew Johnson is right there. He pounces on it and scores his 5th of the season.

Final Score: 3-1

We outshot them 15(9) to 11(5). I feel really good about beating them back to back. Remember, this team was 3rd in the EPL not so long ago...

Ross McCormack is named Man of the Match with a rating of 8 but every starter but Pearson received a 8 for this game.

Tom Howell bruised a rib and will miss 3 days.

We've been awarded $130k and we're through to the Quarter Finals.

Chelsea won 2-1 over Arsenal.

Our next game is only in 10 days, weehee, we can breathe!

Looking back on that crazy stretch, I realize we did quite well. Look at this, 6 wins and 1 loss over 7 games played within a 21 days span, impressive!

More than anything though, this stretch, which started with the end of our injury rash, as proven that we can do it, and we can compete with the top teams when our team is healthy.

November 12, 2011
The draw for the Quarter Final round of the League Cup happens. We come out first, meaning we'll be at home. I think: "niiiiice". Then I see our opponent: League One Swansea, the only non-EPL team left in the remaining eight!!! While I don't want to take them for granted as they are still 3rd on League One which isn't too shabby, but you gotta believe this is an amazingly good draw. The game will be played at Loftus Road on December 7.

Um, should the final score be 3-1?

Reading the whole report and ignoring the final score posted, I'd say yes, the final was 3-1.

and then 3-1 in the list of fixtures.

While the team is off, many of our players are taking part in international games here and there. I'll report mostly on the good games, or when a player scores a goal or makes something interesting in a game.

James Collins was in magnificent form, impressing both pundits and manager for the whole game for Wales in a 3-0 win over Faroes Island. Selected Man of the Match, he was rated at 8 for form, winning all of the 11 headers he went for, 4 of them key headers. That is better than many of the games he's played for us so far...

César Augusto Fawcett played well in a friendly for Colombia. He played the whole game and was rated at 8 for form. He even scored a goal form his left fullback position.

It was a Q.P.R. showdown in the Scotland-Denmark game. Ross McCormack scored a goal for Scotland against Q.P.R. teammate Kasper Schmeichel who started and played the whole game in the nets for Denmark. Stephen Pearson also played for Scotland.

November 13, 2011
Andrew Johnson
scored a goal on England U21's 2-0 friendly win over Tunisia.

November 16, 2011
Ross McCormack
scored another goal for Scotland, as they won 3-0 in a frienldy over Qatar. He started and played 65 minutes in that game. Stephen Pearson also played and had a good game, ratig at 8 for form.

César Augusto Fawcett played the whole match for Colombia in a 4-0 friendly win over French Guyana. He rated at 9 and had an assists in that game.

November 17, 2011
Chris Chapman
requests to be transfer listed. The kid is still young and as I said before, still has some growing up to do. I reject his request. He could be a regular fixture in our midfield by next season...

November 18, 2011
The 3 month loan of Joe Marshall at Stevenage ends. In 10 league appearances, he maintained an average for rating of an even 7, conceding 8 goals and collecting 4 clean sheets in the process. Not all bad...

League Match #13: we play Chelsea at Loftus Road. They are currently sitting in 1st place of the EPL and are 4-7 favourites to win this game.

César Augusto Fawcett and Andrew Johnson are both out on international duty. Fawcett will be replaced by Tom Howell and while I'm looking at his profile, I'm struck with something I've never seen on one of my teams: a WONDERKID!!! Woah! Tom Howell is now, at 20 years of age, seen as a wonderkid! WOW! Click the two thumbnails to look at this. The first one is his personal information screen, where the wonderkid description appears, and the second is his profile per se. As you can see, he's grown since we bought him from Hull a couple of seasons ago, kind sad that his pace isn't better...

Open question here: so what does this "wonderkid" description mean? That he still has lots of untapped potential?

As far as replacing AJ in the lineup, I'm thinking of a new twist for that. Chelsea usually plays a 4-3-2-1 formation that has always given us trouble in the past. That's a pyramid of 3 MC's, 2 AMC's and 1 SC. I'm thinking that the 4-2-2-1-1 formation we sometimes use could give us a better chance of countering their attacks.

Getting to the game, they indeed show their 4-3-2-1 formation. We'll see how our 4-2-2-1-1 formation will match up on the field, but I've done some screenie rotating to show you how it looks on the field. The lineup on the left is ours, the one on the right is Chelsea's that I have rotated to show who matches up against who. Interesting...

The first half ends scoreless, but it's not because we're not pressuring them. The formation is working nicely as we outshoot them 7(6) to 5(2) at the half. We're winning possession with 55%, split even on our end, losing slightly in the middle (expected) and winning it big time on their end. Peter Cech is keeping them in the game so far...

AAAAAAAARRRRRGGGG!!! We just can't convert one!

Final Score: 0-0

We gave them quite the hard time but we just couldn't score one! We outshot them 10(8) to 7(3) on the game. We not only could have won it, we should have won it!

Marcus Kelly is named Man of the Match with a form rating of 10. He had 17 runs past oppnents on the game. Kasper Schmeichel got rated at 8 while his Chelsea counterpart, Peter Cech rated at 9. He's the sole reason we didn't come up with the win.

We remain in 10th, but I'm very satisfied, if a bit frustrated, with the draw.

César Augusto Fawcett was named Man of the Match for Colombia in a 4-0 win against Venezuela in a World Cup Qualifier. He received a form rating of 10, scoring a goal and totalling 12 runs past opponents from his left fullback spot.

Damn! Fábio Rochemback suffered a torn groin muscle and while he's initially thought to be missing one month, my physios all think I should send him to the OR. Facing a good 2 to 6 months of recovery time following the injury, I decide against it...

November 22, 2011
Matt Cross
has revealed that not being a part of the first team at Loftus Road is starting to unsettle him. The 21yo right winger is unhappy that he continually finds himself turning out for the reserves and has said that he will be looking to leave the club if he doesn't break into the first team soon. It may be what you'll have to do, son. I'm sorry, but you've not developped the way we thought you would, or at least not at the same rate we've improved the team in the last few years, and I don't think you can cut it on a game-to-game basis in the Premiership...

Another email I received today is titled: "Agent for Cross approaches your club". I wanna go: "Now what?!?" but it turns out it's the agent of Stuart Cross, a 23yo inner midfielder currently playing for League One Barnsley, who's sending me a video of Cross' most recent game with Barnsley, in which he scored a hat-trick. It's the first time an agent has sent me a video of one of their protégé, so I take a look at the video and while it's very nice, with Cross' name in yellow at all time on the field, two of his goals were lucky ones. One a flicked header that he didn't mean and the other a deflected shot from long range. In all honestly, I have to say that Cross, who's valued at $750k, has pretty good fundamental skills. His agent adds that his client is very keen to join our club and he would be delighted if I make an offer. I ask my scouts to report on him before I make any kind of offer...

Andrew Johnson played the whole match, scoring a goal, for the England U21 squad. He was rated at 9 in their 3-0 win over Ukraine U21 in a Euro U21 Championship qualifier.

The wonderkid description is based on current ability, not potential. While the player could become better, it's more a reflection that he's achieved quite a bit of ability at a young age.

So wait, you're going to risk further injury and downtime to Fábio Rochemback by not sending him to the OR?

I mean, not that I'm ever a fan of OR's, but if people are unilaterally recommending it....that's when I usually have surgery.

League Match #14: we play Blackburn at Loftus Road. They are just ahead of us, in 8th place, and are 5-4 favourites to win this game.

César Augusto Fawcett is still away on international duty with Colombia, as they play Peru in a World Cup Qualifier today.

Andrew Johnson played yesterday, basically ruling him out of today's game.

We go back to our usual 4-1-2-1-2 and give Quincy Owusu Abeyie one of his rare start.

We are going into another, longer stretch of games to be played every 3-4 nights, and if we go a bit further in the League Cup, it could only get worse. Look at this:

I call this a "rough stretch" because I still compare it to the "easy" schedule we had last season, but if we're to have any kind of success in either of the two English Cups, or on a European level, we better get used to playing often.

They show a 5-3-2 formation with up arrows on the wingbacks to start the game.

We score a funky goal in the 18th minute. Stephen Pearson centered the ball from the left wing, past Ross McCormack, to Youssouf Hersi. Hersi headed the ball back toward Pearson, but McCormack stepped in front of it and kicked, top corner, past their keeper who was still swinging his head trying to figure out where the pinball was... up 1-0. The crowd loved it!

The half ends with us ahead 1-0. Shots are kept pretty low, with us getting 4(3) and them 3(0). It was a tough first half and we're far from dominating the game. Both striker's condition is at 79%, kind of low for a halftime figure.

We go to a 4-2-2-1-1 formation in the 60th minute. Igor Biscan comes in to replace Quincy Owusu Abeyie.

The crowd had quieted a bit, mesmerized by our patient ball control play, but it goes wild again when Clemens Fritz picks up the ball in the 86th minute, one third into Blackburn's side of play. FRITZ! FRITZ! FRITZ! they chant, and he turns it on... He pulled a FRITZ as he ran with the ball, two defenders on his tail, until he got just inside their penalty area where he buried the ball with a precise strike. What a goal again by Fritz!

Final Score: 2-0

We outshot them 10(7) to 8(0). They tried coming close to our goal, but we only allowed them shots from the periphery.

Clemens Fritz is named Man of the Match despite only playing the last 30 minutes of the game. He received a form rating of 8 in that short period of time and still had 9 runs past opponents.

Tom Howell, Stephen Pearson, and Ross McCormack all received ratings of 8.

We move up to 8th place and we're only 3 points from 3rd!!!

oh really? I always was of the impression that it was more based on potential than actual ability. So the kind of skills he's developped at age 20 would warrant him the tag of wonderkid? Maybe...

Thanks for the info.

Well, I didn't explain my reasoning really well, if at all, did I?

When I say everyone recommended surgery, it's always like that, in the game at least. Either none of my physios, or every one of them recommends it. It probably would be more realistic if we could have a mix and match of recommendations, but it's not how it comes out, maybe it'll be that way in FM2006, who knows

Then about him missing further injury down the road, here's my reasoning about it, reasoning that happened only in my head, sorry about that

Not sure you'd like to hear that from your coach, but I'm taking a gamble with him. First of all, he's 29.

Second of all, his contract is up in June 2012, so he'll basically become available to a Bosman signing on January 1st unless I offer him a contract in December, when I will analyze who I want to keep and who will be let go.

Third of all, when I took a look at his wage requests, right after he got injured, he was asking for $68k per week, a huge increase from his current $26.5k per week wage. I like Fábio, but there will be decisions to be taken regarding wages as we're already up to $650k and I already see Marcus Kelly wanting $69k, and I'd be more tempted to give him the big money than Fábio, who has not impressed me all that much, especially this season.

Had Roch been a 22 to 25 year old with a longer term contract, say at least another season, I would not have thought about him skipping surgery, but in this case here, I'm back to my gambling concept. I'm hoping he'll come back for the beginning of January and he will be able to give me a good three months before being injured again. I mean, before I realized that you could ask your physios about a health report, I had Danny Shittu who got injured in two consecutive seasons, for good periods of time, but he still played more than half the season in both seasons...

Hope this clarifies my train of thought

Euro Cup matches are played today but we're sitting out this round. In Group B this round:
Malmö FF 2-1 CSKA Moscow
Sporting CP 1-0 Athletic Club

Following their win, Sporting CP have clinched qualification to the Knockout Round. Here is the Group table:
PosInfTeamPldWonDrnLstForAgG.D.Pts
1stQSporting CP321020+27
2ndQ.P.R.220051+46
3rdMalmö FF21012203

Seeing how CSKA Moscow and Athletic Club have played so far, and the fact that the top three teams qualify, I'd say we're inching closer and closer to qualifying for the Knockout round too
Our next Euro Cup match is on November 30, when we'll play said Sporting CP at Loftus Road. A win or a draw there would clinch us a spot in the Knockout Round.

Arsčne Wenger, in the build-up to our Premier Division clash of tomorrow, has sent his usual praise. He says he truly hopes the best team wins. He also comment that I am a good manager a I deserve every success with The Rs.

Following his comment, Danny Shittu, ever the good guy, is happy I'm getting the praises I deserve, while Anthony Vanden Borre, Marcus Kelly, and Ross McCormack all believe the team cannot fail to perform whilst under my guidance.

In a funny jab, I decide to tell him I'd enjoy the win against his Manchester City side. Huhoh, oops, look how it came out in the media:
Quote:
Gougeon Hopes for win against Wenger's men
In a surprising turn of events, Steve Gougeon has apparenlty not agreed with Arsčne Wenger's kind comment about his managerial ability and has responded accordingly.

Q.P.R. manager Steve Gougeon has told Arsčne Wenger that he really hopes his side can get one over on Man City on Saturday.

Gougeon commented that he had not had the best of histories with Wenger and a victory in this league match would bring a smile to his face.
Woah, what was that all about??? I mean, who doesn't enjoy a win?

Some players had reactions to my comment, positive and negative. Anthony Vanden Borre, Marcus Kelly, and Ross McCormack (same three who thought the team couldn not fail to perform under my guidance) all believe they have similar character to min and that we will be able to work well together, both on and off the pitch.

On the other hand, Youssouf Hersi and Tom Howell were not happy at what they perceived to be unprofessional comments from me to the media.

Interesting... I went to take a look at Wenger's profile and I'm still listed among his favoured personnel.

November 26, 2011
Keigan Parker
resumes following his long injury and rehab. Sadly, his contract is up next June and he wants a pay raise to $68k and I don't think he warrants that much money, so he's basically entering his last 7 months with us...

Igor Nadal Lázaro complains to the media that not being part of the first team at Loftus Road is starting to unsettle him. The 24yo striker is unhappy that he continually finds himself an onlooker when the first team play and has said that he will be looking to leave the lcub if he doesn't break into the first team soon. Man has success got to these guys' heads or what?!? I mean sheesh, you been injured for a good part of the first half of the season, it's not like I benched you all this time on purpose darn it!!! His contract is still good until June 2013 but looking at his wage demands of $89k per week I think he won't be with the Rangers much past the end of this contract... *sigh*

League Match #15: we play Manchester City on their pitch. They are currently in 15th position, similar to last season, when they had a low league position during the season, only to turn it on later on to finish in a respectable 7th place, one spot ahead of us. This time though, Arsčne Wenger is dealing with quite a few unhappy players, many stating that the team is underachieveing. They are evens favourites to win this game.

While setting my lineup, I see that James Colins is now unhappy and wants some clarification on his role at the club. I feel it's a bit early, but he is 28 now and if he came to the club thinking he'd start every game, this is not what really happened. I may start playing him more, but sometimes, he scares me.

They show a 4-4-2 formation with long arrows on the wingers to start the game.

The first half is mostly uneventful except for a scare that James Collins gave me in the 30th minute. Taking is sweet time dribbling the ball, IN OUR PENALTY AREA, running backward toward our siz yard box, he got dispossessed of the ball, but they put it over the bar. DAMN IDIOT, be careful!!!

The half ends scoreless with us outshooting them 5(3) to 4(2).

In the 72nd minute, a center to the far post by Clemens Fritz is punched out by they keeper. The ball ends to the feet of Anthony Vanden Borre, on the edge of the penalty area where he kicks it on the half volley, bending it nicely. Their keeper can't do a thing about it and we're up 1-0.

It's a friggin nailbiter from that point on. We go to a 5-1-2-1-1 formation with Vanden Borre brought back to a centreback spot. A nailbiter, but we hang on!

Final Score: 1-0

We outshot them 12(9) to 11(7). Woah, tons of shots on target in that game.

Marcus Kelly is named Man of the Match with a rating of 10. Kasper Schmeichel also had a good game, rating at 9, while Danny Shittu, Stephen Pearson, and Anthony Vanden Borre all got rated at 8.

We move to 4th place (!) with the win, but we have played one more game than many of the other teams. Still this most recent win is money in the bank, nobody can take these three points away from us

PS: that last game doesn't have much commentary to it and I appologize for it, but I started it very late last night, at least late for me at 11:02pm. Let's just say that my addiction got the best of me and after exchanging these few words with Wenger, I just had to see how we'd play in that game

And talk about teams switching place, what about Arsenal in 9th place, huh?

It indicates that he's reached a certain level of current ability, and has a certain level of potential ability.

Sorry Tellistto, this has become my new favorite definition for a wonderkid

Technically, both definitions are correct. You will never see that description unless the players current ability is high enough to qualify him for it, so...even if potential has nothing to do with it or does hardly matters, he'll still be a damn good player. Just in your case he's too dern slow.

I'm not one who swears only by pace. I know, I know, maybe I should and my team would be only better, but I often like players with better all around skills, thinking that even if he can't run real fast, he can setup everybody around him with his amazing crossing and good passing skills, or steal the ball from their fullback deep in their zone with his great tackling... Makes them more real to me

once again whines about not being part of the first team. He's stil on a month-to-month contract and honestly, I wouldn't care much if he left...

That being said, I then learned that left winger Marcus Kelly twisted his knee and will miss one knee. Tom Howell will step in his place. Thing is, Howell is also our backup left fullback...

The Sunday EPL games are played and they kind of turned out well for us. #1 Chelsea drew 0-0 with #6 Liverpool, leaving Liverpool tied in points with us. Could have been worse, since it was Liverpool's game on hand over us, they could have passed us. Aston Villa and Tottenham also drew 0-0. They're two teams right behind us. Finally Blackburn drew 1-1 with Bolton. Blackburn was just 3 points behind us. After 15 games, positions 4 to 10 are all within 3 points of one another...

resumes full training. This is good news to an extent, with the injury to Fábio Rochemback and the stretch of games that are coming up, we may need Tie to step on the field a bit more.

Only three of our second half league games have been picked up for TV coverage, all away games:
January 15, at Fulham
March 4, at Newcastle

Woah, look at Liverpool's record 5 wins, 10 draws

I also went back and found last season's table after 15 games or so and we were in 7th place with 7 wins 3 draws and 5 losses after 15. We had also score 27 and allowed 27. We have improved our defensive play a lot this season. Hopefully this will continue...

I've started looking at what the wages will look like in 2012 and who I'd like to resign before they become available to be signed away on a Bosman.

I'll give you my thoughts first, then I'll show you a table of where the team is headed for 2012.

I see 5 players I'd probably like to keep among the players with contracts that are up in June, here they are in order of my interest in them, with their new wage requests.

1) Marcus Kelly, 25yo AM RL, currently paid $6.6k per week, wants $68k, Conti recommends 51k
The versatile winger may not have the most incredible skill set on paper, but he is a machine on the field. On top of that, is is not a complainer, still playing on his original contract, paid only $6,600 per week. I absolutely, positively want to sign him to a new contract.

2) Craig Crane, 21yo D R, currently paid $3.4k per week, wants $26k, Conti recommends $15.5k
The kid is coming along quite nicely and his playing well at the right fullback spot whenever I need to use Anthony Vanden Borre elsewhere. I'll try to sign for less than he wants, as I think that $26k is a bit steep for him.

3) Chris Chapman, 20yo M LC, currently paid $700 per week, wants $30.5k, Conti recommends $14.5k
Another one who's coming along nicely, the Luton product holds a special place in my heart, as he is my final tie with the Luton club of old. He was a youth team graduate while I was managing there and I brought him to Q.P.R. in my first season here. Lacking pace a bit, he can still double at inner midfield as well as left wing.

4) Fábio Rochemback, 29yo DM C, currently paid $26.5k per week, wants $68k, Conti recommends $38.5k
Roch can be either very hot, or very cold, and even sometimes downright hurtful to the team, especially when he tries to impress referees (Rob Styles anyone?). He's not even averaging 7 in form this season, and this has got me worried about him. I would have thought that in his second season, he would have been playing better, not worse. The big difference between what he wants and what Bruno Conti recommends is also another thing that's got me worried a bit. Being that he is 29 already, does Conti see things as going downward for the Brazilian? I think I could probably sign a similar DMC, or at least maybe one who's less impressive skill-wise but more reliable game in, game out, and possibly with more heading skill (hi Desnudo )

5) David Marek Rozehnal, 31yo D C, currently paid $12k per week, wants $24.5k, Conti recommends $12k
I like David in a sense that I feel like I can trust him not to screw it up when is on the field. Granted, he's not getting any younger, but I like him better than, say, James Collins, at least for now. If I'm able to get him to agree to a deal in the vicinity of $17k, I'd like to keep him around for at least another season.

Here's the list of every players on the squad, with their contract status, wages, etc. The two columns to the left are two possible scenarios that could happen. One is if I resign Rochemback, the other is if I don't.

The middle column (w/offer) is what it will look like once I'll have signed Marcus Kelly. Our wage budget right now is at $700k and you can see that we'll go over the wage budget as soon as I sign him, which will quite certainly trigger the "restriction finger" of my chairman. This would mean that it will make it pretty much impossible to off $68k to Rochemback, not that I think he is worth that much. Even Kelly, I'll sign to sign for less than that. I pointed out Rochemback, since I don't think the board will restrict my wage offers enough that it would make signing any of the other impossible. I'd guess that they may restrict the max offer from $68k to possibly as low as $48 k, but not lower than that, maybe somewhere in between...

Euro Cup Group B, Match #3: we play Sporting Clube de Portugal (aka Sporting CP) at Loftus Road. They are 4-5 favourites to win this game.

Tom Howell is in for injured Marcus Kelly and Chris Chapman will be backing him up, even though he's coming off an injury and has not played in a little while.

The game is on TV and key men are presented as Youssouf Hersi for us and Brazilian goalkeeper Ricardo for them. They point out that Sporting CP have conceded only 9 goals in the 14 games where Ricardo was their keeper.

Rivals.net's prediction: This one isn't an easy game to call but I predict Sporting CP to come out on top in what will undoubtedly be a tight affair.

As we get to the game I see that Pierluigi Collina will be our referee. It's the first time he's refereed one of our game, which is simply normal, since we've not had too many continental competition games... This is also kind of odd, considering that in 2011, he's now about 51 years old. I know he retired of international competition with Euro 2004 (wikipedia link) but I don't know if that would apply to the EUFA Cup...

While we're putting some pressure early on, it takes Anthony Vanden Borre to blast a splendig banana shot from 35 yards out in the 15th minute for us to go ahead. A fabulous strike to give us a 1-0 lead.

Ten minutes later, we do it again. This time, it's Stephen Pearson's turn to fire one from 30 yards out, and again, Ricardo can't do a thing about the precision of the strike. Up 2-0.

Amazingly, we add to our lead in the 34th minute, when Tom Howell makes a nice pass from the sideline to the feet of Youssouf Hersi in the middle, near their penalty area. He makes a couple great move and blasts one to the top corner just as he got into the penalty box.

The half ends with us leading 3-0. We're outshooting them 11(8) to 3(1), also dominating ball control with a 57% figure.

In the 47th minute, there are reports that they are switching to a more defensive style. Huh? Say that again?

In the 67th minute, Clemens Fritz is denied entry in their penalty box. Not one to be stopped twice, he picks up the loose ball and runs right in the box, closing in on the keeper. He spots Hersi standing on the edge of the 6 yards box. His pass is perfect and Hersi makes it 4-0 on his second of the game, 5th of the season.

We keep adding to the scoreboard in the 84th minute when Clemens Fritz pulls a near FRITZ! He did evreything, from the middle this time, but Ricardo got a hand on the ball. Only one hand though, simply pushing the ball sideways, where Andrew Johnson can pounce on the rebound. 5-0!

We're too much for Ricardo to handle and, in the 87th minute, after Tom Howell had nicely swiveled and made a pass to Quincy Owusu Abeyie, and after Abeyie had shot a low and hard shot, Ricardo just can't control the wet ball. Clemens Fritz is there for the rebound and he buries it for the humiliating 6-0 goal.

Final Score: 6-0

We outshot them 19(13) to 5(1). A wow kind of game... Lots of fun to be on the winning side of it And how about that Ricardo, huh? I'm sure you will find him crying softly under the stands, after conceding 6 goals in a game, or 2/3 of what he had conceded in his last 14 games

Youssouf Hersi is selected Man of the Match with a rating of 10 and 2 goals. Tom Howell also got rated at 10. I had kind of adjusted the individual orders for his wing side. For example, I had tuned down the "run with ball" order and added tweaked up the "through ball" setting. I'd say it turned out ok.

We also had numerous other players rated at 8.

We received $160k for the win and with it, we have clinched a spot in the EURO Cup 1st Knockout Round. WEEHEE!!!! In the other Group B match, Athletic Club won 2-0 over Malmö FF. Here is the group table at this point:
PosInfTeamPldWonDrnLstForAgG.D.Pts

3rdAthletic Club31023303
4thMalmö FF310224-23
5thCSKA Moscow301215-41

Looking at the table, not only have we clinched a spot in the 1st Knockout Round, we've also clinched first place in our group, since Sporting CP are done playing their four games. WOOHOO! GO RANGERS!!! We still have to play Malmö FF on December 14 on their pitch, our early qualification will relieve some tension and allow us to play some backups in that game, in preparation to our game against Liverpool that immediately follows it, on December 17.

Also played today were the first two Quarter Final of the League Cup. Everton upset Chelsea by beating them 2-0, while Manchester United won by the same score over Wolves.

And, in league play, Arsenal beat Ipswich 2-0, bumping them up to 5th place while dropping us one spot, to 7th place. I won't post the league table after every little midweek game, but I thought this was an interesting picture: 5 teams with 25 points...

The team board is delighted with my performance as manager of the club, and they have good reasons to be, as I am selected as the Premier Division Manager of the Month. SWEEET!!!

It's a good month for Q.P.R. as Marcus Kelly is selected as the Premier Division Player of the Month. SWEEEEEEEEET!!!

After receiving some scout reports, I decide to approach a youngster to sign with us. The kid is Clive Greenwood, a 17yo AM/F C who's described as a promising midfielder. He is currently on a unprotected contract but is considering a contract offer from Everton, of which he is a youth program graduate. He looks like a very determined kid (determintation=15) with pretty good work ethics (work rate=16) and pretty good pace (pace=17). The rest is somewhat ordinary, but I've seen many kids like that take jumps of up to 3 skill points in many skills in the first year they've bee in our system, so I feel we could work on his skills. I offer him what he wants, which is $2,200 per week.

Seeing how kids like Tom Howell, Craig Crane, and Chris Chapman are turning out, and the lack of such kids in the 18-19 age range, I think it would not be a bad idea to invest some of the $8M we have left in transfer budget on some kids for the future. A kid like Greenwood here could be a pretty solid player in three seasons, when he'd be about 20 years old but I realize now that with getting in the Premiership, I felt a lot of pressure to get a solid first/second team and I left my younth squad a bit to the side...

awesome job, frogman!

That said, I dread the "We recommend he has surgery to ..." knowing i've just lost someone for 2-6 months at least.

Potential has everything to do with it. A wonderkid is someone that has a certain level of current ability and a certain level of potential ability. Two 18 year olds could have the exact same current ability level, but only one might be a wonderkid, based on their future potential. There are exact numbers of CA/PA that qualify someone as a Wonderkid, but that ruins the fun of it.

I decide to make an offer to Bristol C on a 17yo promising winger of theirs, Peter Young. Young is an AM RLC valued at $1.65M and he already has some skills at 15 or above, while having many others in th 11-13 range. His pace is not world class isn't so bad at 13. I offer them $1.85M

The League Cup Semi Final draw happens today. The winner of our match with Swansea will get to play Manchester United in the first Semi Final (ouch) and the winner of the Sunderland/Aston Villa match will get to play Everton. I've never been this deep in the League Cup, but I think it's a two legs thing, as opposed to a one match at Wembley for the FA Cup.

League Match #16: we play Portsmouth at Loftus Road. They are currently in 13th place and are 5-4 favourites to win this game.

Our next game is our League Cup quarter final against Swansea on December 7.

Quincy Owusu Abeyie, Stephen Pearson, Andrew Johnson and David Marek Rozehnal are all sitting this one out.

This game is on TV and key men are presented as Youssouf Hersi for us and Yakubu for them. They point out that their explosive striker has scored 10 goals in 17 appearances so far this season.

Skysports.com's prediction is as follows: A draw is on the cards in this game as I can see Q.P.R. and Portsmouth cancelling each other out. Not one for the neutral in my opininon.

They last played on November 26 and show many players at 100%, while we last played on November 30.

Danny Shittu lets Yakubu run unchallenged in the 27th minute and that can't lead to good stuff. He puts us down by one. We're playing sloppy defense early on, especially the two centrebacks whom are both rated at 6 at this point.

The half ends with us down 0-1. We're outshooting them 6(2) to 1(1). That was their lone foray into our zone and we're winning possession with 64% at this point, but dang, no goals to show for it!

We rectify that in the 63rd minute, when César Augusto Fawcett moves the ball on the left, passing it to Chris Chapman. Chapman's center to Igor Nadal Lázaro on the penalty spot is perfect and Lázaro scores the equalizer.

But dang, we just can't score another one!!!

Final Score: 1-1

We outshot them 13(5) to 5(2) and kept controlling the ball in the second half with 63% in that half.

Their keeper is named Man of the Match with a rating of 8. Craig Crane is the only one rated above 7 on our side, with a 8, while Anthony Vanden Borre has a down game, rating at 6. Even though he got rated at 7, James Collins definitely makes me nervous during games...

We move back up to 8th with the draw, ahead of Arsenal who just lost...

Tom Howell suffered a bruised shin and will mis 5 days. We're down to Chris Chapman as starter, or maybe Stephen Pearson.

The draw for the 3rd round of the FA Cup happens and woah! This will be our first round and we've been drawn to play Birmingham on their pitch. They are having a great season so far and currently in 3rd place in the EPL, so this won't be an easy one. The game will be played on January 7.

Our bid for Peter Young is accepted and we can offer him a contract. He wants $1800 per week with a $56k signing fee, but as a first team player. I don't want to mirepresent, so I will offer him a contract as a "hot prospect" that's one thing that's for sure. Bruno Conti recommends offering him a contract worth around $1400 per week. I offer him $1500 per week with a signing fee of $70k, as a hot prospect.

December 6, 2011
Clive Greenwood
signs a new contract with Everwood. He didn't really acknowledged our offer. I see he's still valued at $1.65 so I offer Eferton that. We'll see...

sorry, just realized I forgot to save the lineup screen...

League Cup Quarter Final: we play Swansea at Loftus Road. They're currently in 2nd place of League One and we're 4-6 favourites to win this game.
Our next game is on December 10 against Middlesbrough.

Swansea also played on December 4, just like us.

Marcus Kelly isn't ready to play so I start Stephen Pearson. Chris Chapman is backing him up.

Clemens Fritz is on the bench as Matt Cross gets the start at right wing.

Ben Watson is in for Anthony Vanden Borre at the DMC spot.

Ross McCormack is on the bench while Quincy Owusu Abeyie and Andrew Johnson start at striker.

A sweet long throw in from Ben Watson goes all the way from the sideline to the edge of their 6 yard box, where Andrew Johnson tips it toward the goal. He lucky, the keeper didn't expect the ball and it goes in, up 1-0 and AJ didn't even mean it!!!

The half ends with us ahead 1-0. While we're outshooting them 5(3) to 2(1), we're not absolutely dominating them. We are still getting a good possession figure at 57%.

In the 73rd minute, Stephen Pearson helps us put in the insurance goal when he centers it to the far post, away from the keeper. Quincy Owusu Abeyie is facing an empty net and he doesn't screw up. Up 2-0!

Final score: 2-0

We outshot them 15(6) to 2(1) on the game, taking control in the second half.

Chris Chapman is selected Man of the Match after playing only the last 45 minutes of the game on the left wing. He got rated at 8 and had 11 runs past opponents. I switched Stephen Pearson, who also got a rating of 8, to the right side at the half after seeing him cross 2 consecutive balls into the side netting. I realized at that point that, even though Pearson is marked as an AM RLC, he's not at his best on the left side, in part because of the way his long balls curl from left to right, and in part because I had the left winger set to cross to the far post, usually because Kelly takes the ball to the byline and crosses over the crowd to somebody who's wide open on the other side. See, with the way Pearson's ball curls, it goes out of bounds and comes back in, or in the case of the 2 balls I mentionned earlier, it never came back and simply died in the side netting. Always nice to see you're players (okay your little dots ) in action and see how they actually perform in a position of another. I also found it nice to see that Chapman was able to hold his own on the wing.

Finally, Ben Watson had a great game at the DMC spot, ending the game with a rating of 8 too. Youssouf Hersi had a down game, rating at 6.

We've been awarded $360k for our win and we're through to the Semi Final. We'll play Machester United and it's indeed a two games series with the first leg to be played at Loftus Road on January 11. The second leg will be on their pitch on January 25.

Following the game, I receive some raving review of a young striker currently on Everton's U18 squad. The kid is a 16yo phenom named Jason Wilson and my scout tells me he's been mightily impressed by the young striker and he believes I would be signing a star of the future. The last time I got a review this good, I ended up making a bid to get Tom Howell. The compensation is set at $1.9M and he will turn 17 on December 19, so in only 12 days. He wants $420 per week with a signing fee of $240k. My first thought is that it's one big signing fee for a kid this young. Bruno Conti recommends offering up to $500 per week. Kinda weird, but the board must agree with me regarding the signing fee since they will only allow me to offer him a signing fee up to $20k. To make up for it, I offer Wilson a contract worth $500 per week with a signing fee of $20k as a hot prospect.

Peter Young
is ecstatic to have agreed terms with us. The 17yo promising winger said he is very keen to rise to the challenge of playing for such an illustrious club. As you'll see in his profile, the kid has a fairly good skill set and is a fairly good worker. He's seen some first-team play already and could probably be used for depth in case of a bad injury rash. The move will go through when the next transfer window reopens on Januarys 1st.

Our bid for Clive Greenwood has been rejected. I offer Everton $1.85M for him.
