Lightbulb FOFC Tournament?

Would anyone be interested in a tournament which features multiple different games (such as Chess and Scrabble), where the contestants all compete in a tournament of each type of game, and the ultimate winner is determined by combined points across all of the games? I know we had a chess tourney that was successful already. I was thinking we could choose various online games like Chess, Scrabble, etc.

Anyhow, it's just an idea at the moment, and I was curious to see if people would be interested / have ideas for other games to include (I don't really know what other games are out there).

I'll gauge interest and then we'll go from there. I just figured it might be a nice diversion from all the war arguments.

I heard Fritz was a World Champion in Pocket Pool. You may want to consider that game.

Yep.

Marmel keeps getting disqualified from tournement play. You just can't play two-ball with only one ball and a short stick.

yes I would play, but I wouldnt use chess or any game that takes a long time to play. It seems to be really hard to get people to sit down for two hours a week for a month

Also, might I suggestion something other than elimination. I like the points system that keeps everyone interested until the end

I'd like to get to 8 players so that we'd have easy tournament grids, and not too many rounds. 16 players would also work, but would probably lead to more trouble in getting games played, so I think maybe 8 players is ideal. Also, I think single-elimination tournaments could help reduce time constraints. Obviously, the farther you advance in a given tourney, the more points you get. If you lose in the first round of the chess tourney, then you still have a chance to get points in the scrabble tourney, so you don't lose interest in the overall competition. I'd like to have at least 5 different games involved (Chess, scrabble, ?, ?, ?).

The points for a given tourney would go something like this:

1st place (3 wins)= 5 points
2nd place (2 wins) = 3 points
3rd & 4th place (1 win) = 1 points
5th-8th place (No wins) = 0 points

Can anyone think of other good games that are available online? Checkers? Stratego? I have no idea what is out there.

Maybe one game could be poker - all 8 people play at once, after a pre-defined amount of time, the game is over, rank is based on how much each player has at the end.

Poker
Hearts
Cribbage

I think we should have a poll kodos for games to pick. I know we have some real chess whizzes

1.chess
2.scrabble
3.poker
4.battleship
5.Backgammon
6.Checkers
7. Dominoes

thats four single player games. If we play poker, I would suggest playing hold-em Now if we could get people to download some software for a popular site, we could run our own tournament, and have it all setup to only last 30 minutes or so...

I like the suggestions of poker and hearts.

Is dots the one where you try to make boxes by putting a dot and then drawing lines?
