Wait, what? Ohio ended up with Toledo, and you consider that a win?

That's an Ohioan for you.

Better than ending up with Detroit.

No, I don't think so. And that wasn't really on the table, anyway.

Toledo for the UP? Hardly a loss at all.

Again though the point I think you are missing, or at least not acknowledging, is a LEO could have a radar, it could say you were going 55, he could still pull you and say you were running 82...no difference. You dont know what the radar said. And yes you can ask to see the radar, but how do you know he hit the hold key when he clocked you and not some guy on the interstate a week ago?

The point I'm trying to make is...it's not up to the accused to prove their innocence, it's the accuser and for me, as a juror, that is not enough to get a guilty vote from me. I believe that in order for our system of justice to be fair, you have to err on the side for the accused.

Just to clarify, a Police Officer's statement is pretty much all that is ever needed in a speeding case. Firstly you do not have to be BREAKING the speed limit to get a speeding ticket. Every officer has the right to ticket you for driving too fast for the road conditions, regardless of the posted speed signs.

That precedent alone gives the Cops and the judges a very wide latitude in such cases.

You're best bet is to fight the ticket and hope the cop is too busy to bother showing up so that it gets dropped.

You're making the mistake of assuming this ever gets to a jury. it won't. A judge simply rules one way or the other.

Actually, I'm assuming the person being accused has asked for and got a jury trial.

In cases where the maximum possible punishment is 6 months or less, the Constitution does not require a jury.

And the constitution also states that you have a right to a trial by jury by your peers.

If they ask they'll be told they have that option, however they will also incur the full legal costs for such a trial and the case can be settled by the judge far easier.

Anyone asking for a jury trial over a traffic violation is a fucking moron.

You still have the right to request one. it does not have to be granted based on a judge's hearing.

I wouldn't be as harsh as you calling them a fucking moron, but, I definitely see your point!

Of all the speeding tickets issued, I'm sure the percentage of people that were NOT speeding is extremely low.
