Sekine Awarded April's CL Top Bat Prize
Tuesday, May 1st, 2096: Though his face is weathered and his hands are calloused, Tokaji Sekine can still get it done in FOOL-X. In fact, the 32-year-old center fielder for Plantana was named the Continental League Batter of the Month today after putting up an impressive performance at the plate.

In April he batted .320 with 7 home runs, 26 RBIs and 19 runs scored.


RL Top Batter Trophy Won by Walters
Tuesday, May 1st, 2096: Today Palmer Walters was voted Republic League Batter of the Month for May. During the month the 26-year-old New York designated hitter compiled a .374 batting average.

Most importantly for the Legends though, he also posted 10 home runs, 17 RBIs and 25 runs scored

Pérez Garners CL #1 Pitcher Award
Tuesday, May 1st, 2096: Over the past month Juan Pérez has turned quite a few heads. He's young, talented and able to pitch with the established arms in the Continental League. He proved all that and now he's been named April's Pitcher of the Month.

The rookie for the Havana Banana Sluggers posted 5-0 mark and a 3.05 ERA. In 5 starts he tossed 38.1 innings, permitted 35 hits and fanned 35 batters.


Republic League Picks Best Starter in April
Tuesday, May 1st, 2096: Veteran Bartolo Delgado put together quite a successful stretch in April for the New York Legends, earning himself the Republic League Pitcher of the Month award.

Delgado racked up a 4-0 record in 6 starts, posting a 1.25 ERA over 43.1 innings and striking out 37.

Rising Star--Pérez Shines as Top Rookie
Tuesday, May 1st, 2096: Juan Pérez has become a big Havana fan favorite, especially during the last month when the pitching phenom racked up a 5-0 record, making him the easy choice for April's Continental League Rookie of the Month Award.

He notched 35 strikeouts in 38.1 innings as he compiled a 3.05 ERA and held opponents to a .238 batting average.


Republic League Names Rookie of Month
Tuesday, May 1st, 2096: Roberto Ríos was toddling around on his tricycle when some of the guys he's playing against were in their prime, but the 23-year-old left fielder definitely knows how to get to first, second or beyond. Today he was chosen April's Republic League Rookie of the Month for his remarkable month of hitting.

In 24 games Ríos batted .392 for Maricopa, slapping 38 hits in 97 at-bats with 4 home runs, drove in 17 runs and scored 12 times.

May's #1 Batter Announced
Friday, June 1st, 2096: Tokaji Sekine battered Continental League pitchers all May and wound up taking home the Batter of the Month Award.

"I've been around FOOL-X long enough to know you really have to work hard day in and day out to be able to put up this kind of consistency," the 32-year-old Sekine told reporters. "I put in a lot of work, even on the days I might not take the field, and it's always nice when everything comes together for me like it did this last month."

In 28 games, Sekine hit .365 with 7 home runs, 26 RBIs and scored 23 runs.

Sekine's current batting average stands at .343 and he has chalked up 14 home runs and 52 RBIs.


RL Batter of the Month Honors to Hernández
Friday, June 1st, 2096: To survive in the bigs, you've got to be a scrapper like Raúl Hernández. It never pays to take a day off from the batting cages or to shrug off the advice of the hitting coach. It all paid off today as Las Vegas's second baseman pinned down the Republic League Batter of the Month trophy today.

He hit .372 in May collecting 6 home runs, 23 RBIs and 22 runs scored.

So far this year Hernández has 7 home runs and a .357 batting average

CL Top Pitcher for May Picked
Friday, June 1st, 2096: Juan Álvarez was the anchor in the London bullpen last month and snatched up the Continental League Pitcher of the Month honors for May. The 32-year-old is in the prime of his career and pitching like he intends to stay around baseball for quite some time to come.

He threw 13.2 innings over 12 relief appearances and collected a 2-0 record with 16 strikeouts and 9 saves while etching his 1.32 ERA.

Álvarez has nailed down 14 saves to date. In 23.2 innings he has fanned 28 batters and walked 10. His pitching record is 3 wins and 1 loss with a 3.04 ERA.


Rosales Is RL's Best Pitcher in May
Friday, June 1st, 2096: The Las Vegas Wildcats felt very secure when they sent Lúcio Rosales out to the hill last month. The 23-year-old starter went after Republic League hitters with a vengeance and earned May's Pitcher of the Month award.

He went 4-2 with a 2.45 ERA as he struck out 28 in 40.1 innings over 6 starts.

In 11 starts this season Rosales has chalked up a 6-4 record and a 3.17 ERA.

CL Selects Rookie Star of the Month
Friday, June 1st, 2096: A veritable toddler to the Continental League, Juan Vega just sewed up the Rookie of the Month trophy for May.

Over the past month the 25-year-old right fielder for Plantana hit .361 with 22 hits, 2 home runs and 10 runs batted in. He also logged 8 walks and compiled a .444 on-base percentage.

On the year Vega has hit .274 with 3 home runs, 13 RBIs and scored 11 runs.


Cordero Wins RL Rookie Award
Friday, June 1st, 2096: Marcos Cordero performed better than any of his first-year peers in May and today was presented the Republic League Rookie of the Month trophy.

Last month the 26-year-old Maricopa first baseman played in 25 games and hit .284 with 7 doubles, 2 triples and no home runs. Cordero also scored 14 times and drove in 8 runs.

Cordero is currently hitting at a .273 pace with no home runs, 16 RBIs and has scored 25 times.

Washington's Rivas Bags CL Batting Award
Sunday, July 1st, 2096: There's nothing like putting up good, solid numbers in the last year of your contract. Today Ricardo Rivas helped his contract negotiations by nabbing June's Continental League Batter of the Month honors.

The Washington first baseman put together a .365 batting average with 10 home runs, 21 RBIs and 17 runs scored.

Someone will surely be opening up the vault this offseason if Rivas continues at this brisk pace.

Currently Rivas is batting .254 with 19 home runs, 45 RBIs and 42 runs scored.


Iverson Brings Home RL Batter of Month Honor
Sunday, July 1st, 2096: Seasoned by several years of professional experience, 29-year-old Dan Iverson put together a solid offensive month for Spring and was crowned June's top batter in the Republic League.

He batted .384 with 5 home runs, 18 RBIs and 17 runs scored.



To date this season Iverson is hitting .323 with 22 home runs.

Sunday, July 1st, 2096: Despite the number of years he's been in the league, Gabriel Tadeo still gets excited when he puts together a quality stretch like he had in June. The 37-year-old starter for Oshawa was named Continental League Pitcher of the Month earlier today.

He collected 5 wins and no losses with 38 strikeouts in his 6 starts, putting up a fine 1.27 ERA in 42.2 innings of work.

This season Tadeo has 8 wins and 4 losses and a 2.92 ERA.


RL Honors June's #1 Pitcher
Sunday, July 1st, 2096: Pat Little's been around the league long enough to appreciate the honor he received today. After going 4-0 in June, the 32-year-old Spring hurler has been named Republic League Pitcher of the Month.

He fanned 26 in 31 innings, logged an ERA of 0.58 and allowed opponents to hit .204 against him.

Up to now Little has compiled an ERA of 2.87 with a 8-4 mark over 16 starts. He has 71 strikeouts in 97.1 innings and has held opponents to a .251 batting average.

Plantana Rookie Star Sparkles
Sunday, July 1st, 2096: Tadataka Nishiyama's eyes seem to light up whenever he sees the baseball. The young Plantana center fielder has been hitting everything in sight for the better part of a month.

In June he was voted the Rookie of the Month Award.

During the month he hit .342 with 4 doubles, 1 triple and 7 home runs. Nishiyama also scored 16 times and drove in 21 runs.

For the season Nishiyama has produced 64 hits in 215 at-bats for a .298 average with 13 home runs and gotten on base at a .339 clip.


New York First Baseman June's Best Rookie
Sunday, July 1st, 2096: Youngster Jaye Norman emerged as the latest Republic League Rookie of the Month today. The young man from New York deserved the honor, batting .293 with 3 home runs and 14 runs batted in. Is the month of June a harbinger of things to come or just a fluke? We'll find out someday, but for now, we'll just let Norman enjoy the limelight.

For the year Norman is batting .256 with 8 home runs.

Emerson Hubbard Selected July's Best Batter
Wednesday, August 1st, 2096: When guys like Oshawa's Emerson Hubbard win Batter of the Month awards, it just makes you feel good. In a productive July, the longtime Continental League veteran toyed with opposing pitchers all month long, collecting 29 hits in 86 at-bats.

The veteran left fielder hit for a .337 batting average and collected 12 home runs, 30 RBIs and 22 runs scored.

So far this year Hubbard has 26 home runs and a .280 batting average.


Langman Wins Best Bat Trophy in July
Wednesday, August 1st, 2096: The Republic League has given Anthony Langman the Batter of the Month Award.

In July, the Waikiki catcher starred with a .427 batting average, 5 home runs and 20 RBIs. Langman also had 21 walks, posted a .541 on-base percentage and scored 23 times.

On the year Langman has hit .345 with 23 home runs, 86 RBIs and scored 68 runs.

July's Best CL Hurler is Alvarado
Wednesday, August 1st, 2096: Miguel Alvarado has been around the league long enough to know that relievers are often overlooked. That has never stopped him from doing what he does best -- and he did it extremely well in July and stole away with the Continental League Pitcher of the Month award.

The Pirates bullpen ace collected 9 saves and 17 strikeouts in 12.1 innings, holding the opposition to a .208 average and posting a 0.00 ERA and a 1-0 record.

Currently Alvarado has 51 relief appearances, saving 27. His record is 2-2 with 72 strikeouts in 53.1 innings and a 1.52 ERA.


Johnson Premier Pitcher in July
Wednesday, August 1st, 2096: As Tim Johnson hoisted up the Republic League Pitcher of the Month trophy for July, rumors have already begun to swirl about whether he will leave Waikiki once his contract is up at the end of the season.

Johnson put pressure on the Beach Boys to keep him around by posting a 4-0 record and an ERA of 1.60 over 39.1 innings last month. He also rolled up 26 strikeouts, increasing his value both to Waikiki and to every other team in the league.

This year Johnson has gone 13-3 with an ERA of 3.59 and has 97 strikeouts in 148 innings.

McCall Selected July's Top Newcomer
Wednesday, August 1st, 2096: Tom McCall earned July's Rookie of the Month honors in the Continental League for last month's performance. The boyish Manchester second baseman might be wet behind the ears, but he's proving that he has what it takes to play at this level.

McCall hit .330 with no home runs, 13 RBIs and 10 runs scored this past month on his way to winning the award.

This season McCall is batting .265 with 102 hits, 1 home run, 36 RBIs, 56 walks, .357 OBP and has scored 44 runs. He has played in 107 games.


Sloan Fox Named RL Rookie of Month
Wednesday, August 1st, 2096: Sloan Fox is still a bit shy, but then, who could blame the newest Republic League Rookie of the Month honoree? He hasn't been around the league long enough to fully know the ropes yet, despite the fact that he's putting up veteran-like numbers.

In July the Cleveland hitter tagged opposing pitching for a .280 average with 33 hits, 4 home runs and 17 RBIs.

In this current campaign Fox is hitting at a .217 clip with 6 home runs and 40 RBIs.

CL Honors Sekine, Best Hitter in August
Saturday, September 1st, 2096: On the heels of a very productive August, Tokaji Sekine received Continental League Batter of the Month recognition today.

The battle-tested right fielder hit .391 for the Plantana Pirates and racked up 9 home runs, 27 RBIs and 21 runs scored.

In the current season, Sekine has put up a .346 batting average with 178 hits, 33 home runs, 121 RBI and scored 98 runs.


RL's Best Batter Selected
Saturday, September 1st, 2096: Mauro Sandoval has made a definite impact on the baseball world by snatching Republic League Batter of the Month honors for August.

In 28 games the New York batter hit .396 with 5 home runs, 23 RBIs and 21 runs scored.

Currently Sandoval is batting .313 with 164 hits and 29 home runs. He has knocked in 94 runs and scored 86 times.

Harris Nabs CL #1 Pitcher Trophy
Saturday, September 1st, 2096: Don Harris was the best pitcher in August according to the voters. He severely shut down opposition batters to win the Continental League Pitcher of the Month Award.

St Louis's star reliever compiled a 3-2 mark and an ERA of 0.83 in 21.2 innings with 26 strikeouts and 4 saves in 5 save opportunities.

This season Harris has been credited with 19 saves. In 76 relief appearances and 97.1 innings he has a 8-6 won-lost mark, 2.59 ERA and 108 strikeouts


RL Announces Best Pitcher for August
Saturday, September 1st, 2096: Júlio Romero had a super August and has been rewarded with the Republic League Pitcher of the Month Award. The Cleveland relief specialist was very effective, constantly coming in and getting his club out of trouble or protecting a one-run or two-run lead.

the Cleveland bullpen ace starred with 7 saves in 12 relief appearances, logging 13.2 innings, 19 strikeouts, 2 walks and a 1.32 ERA. Romero finished the month with 3 wins and no losses -- and was named the league's top pitcher.

Currently Romero has 31 saves. In 58 relief appearances he has hurled 61.2 innings, struck out 89 and issued 16 walks with a 7-3 record. The Cleveland reliever has recorded a 2.48 ERA and allowed the opposition to hit .177 when he is on the mound.

August's Top Rookie Named by CL
Saturday, September 1st, 2096: In August, Oshawa second baseman Mathieu Pelletier took the Continental League Rookie of the Month honors.

In 26 games he hit .274, collecting 26 hits, 1 home run, 20 RBIs and 9 runs scored. He also chalked up 8 walks and a .337 OBP.

To date, Pelletier has collected 131 hits for a .298 average. He has posted 10 home runs, scored 58 runs and driven in 62 runs.


Red-Hot Rookie Rewarded in August
Saturday, September 1st, 2096: The Republic League made the official announcement today. The Rookie of the Month trophy went to Jaye Norman of New York. He was voted the outstanding rookie in August.

Last month the 23-year-old Legends first baseman played in 24 games and hit .348 with 7 doubles, 1 triple and 5 home runs. Norman also scored 12 times and drove in 18 runs.

Norman is presently hitting at a .289 pace with 17 home runs, 61 RBIs and has scored 52 times.
