OT: Ever heard of marketocracy.com?
I started goofing around with it a long time ago, a few years back. It's a site where you can create your own mutual funds, you get an imaginary million and go adding stocks to your funds and can compete against other people.
It's different because they're trying to find the best amateur investors or whatever. I just like it, because it keeps me sharp even if I can't compete with the best of the best, I hold my own. Anyway, I was wondering if anyone else even knew it existed or was part of it. |

I did not, but it sounds very interesting and I might get involved after I check it out a bit.

I tried this a couple years ago, but never remembered to follow up my "virtual" trades, I'm too busy trading in real life. I was a stock option market maker in Chicago and London before my current career of running a retro vintage store and basically doing nothing all day but playing computer games, and unfortunately losing at online poker.
Anyway, I started a portfolio on Jan 28, 2004, the Common Sense Value & Growth Fund (CSVG). Up 5%+ since then, double the Nasdaq and S&P return, 5 times more than the Dow return. Anyhoo, for a great site with free stock fundamental research reports, check out www.gabelli.com/research , under Research Library -- this is Mario Gabelli's company (he's been around a long time), and they put their stock research reports on here in .PDF format for FREE a few days after they are released to their clients. I've done very well with their picks, which all include a Private Market Valuation (PMV) going out a few years, has been very helpful. BTW, don't get greedy, I usually sell half a position if its up 25-50%, and the rest before a double...but that's just me, I don't like to give up gains... |
