Canadian Golden Combat

In 2009, George DeColt decided it was time to retire as owner of CGC. He gave the ownership over to his son, Alex DeColt. This did not sit well with the oldest of the DeColt bothers, Steve, since he was under the impression that he'd be the one to take over the business. George, however, felt lex had a much better understanding of the business side of wrestling. After several attempts by George, Alex and Steve to work it out, Steve and Alex were at each other's throat. Attempts to come to an understanding only ended up in the two brothers having a very public falling out. Steve walked out on CGC and went to their rival, NOTBW.

But for Alex, the show must go one. CGC had been in a state of staleness. The same formula being repeated over and over again. He brought in some new blood to help out with booking to get over this staleness.

Enter Rick Silver(that's me! Jack Avatar clone). At only 24, Silver has been making waves throughout the wrestling world behind the scenes. He's worked as an adviser to many independents, and helped book many successful shows.

One priority will be the tag team division. The Specialists and Youth Energy both retired their teams and have gone single. Nate Johnson has joined Elite. Lee Rivera changed his name to Thrill Seeker and has reinvented himself. That leaves, other than the 3 DeColt combinations, The Dirty White Boys (Grease Hogg and Lead Belly) and The Soldiers of Fortune (Destiny and Fate). The tag team champions are Stevie Grayson and Zeus Maxmillion.

Secondly, the main event picture needs to change. The DeColts vs. Elite has long since run its course. Elite needs to die. The DeColts need to let some new blood into the face side of the Main Event. But that's in the future. Time is needed to build up some new talent.

A Closer look at the Workers

Main Eventers

CGC World Champion: Jack DeColt
32 Year Old - National Star - Light Heavyweight Entertainer
Great on camera, great performance skills. Will be the main guy for a long time to come.
One negative is that he can't really pull off anything other than "Wholesome" gimmicks.

Alex DeColt
35 Year Old - National Star - Light Heavyweight Brawler
A bit better than his brother Jack in the ring and on camera, but he's 35 and will start declining physically.

Ricky DeColt
25 Year Old - National Star - Lightweight Cruiserweight
The youngest, and smallest, of the DeColts. He's better technically at what he does (aerial) than his older brothers are at what they do (brawling).

Dan DeLay
34 Year Old - National Star - Big Heavyweight Brawler
Decent performance but is bad in angles. He's the giant side-kick. He's there to be big and look mean.

Eddie Chandler
34 year Old - National Star - Middleweight Regular Wrestler
Great on camera, great performance, great Technical skills. Will be one of the top heels for many years.

Ryan Powell
29 Year Old - National Worker - Lightweight Regular Wrestler
Average to good all around. Not sure how he became a Main Eventer, honestly. Seems more suited for Upper Middlecard right now. Not involved in the DeColts vs. Elite

The Notable Rest

Nate Johnson
33 Year Old - National Worker - Middleweight Regular Wrestler
Great performance ratings, good all-around technical skills, decent on the mic. The newest member of Elite has a bright future.

Shooter Sean Deeley
24 Year Old - National Worker - Middleweight Regular Wrestler
Great performance and Technical skills. Needs work for angles. Could easily become my top heel in a few years if he improves in Entertainment.

Trent Shaffer
24 Year Old - National Worker - Lightweight Entertainer
Average performance, good in angles, good Aerial. Currently a heel. Thinking of switching him to face and making a tag team of him and help him with his performance abilities. Could be a great opponent for Ricky DeColt or possibly a great tag team with Ricky DeColt. Maybe a the predictable "tag team for awhile before a split and feud" with them?

Gargantuan
24 Year Old - Independent Star - Super Heavyweight Brawler
He pretty much sucks, but this is a Sports Entertainment fed. Menace is A*. Power is A*. Star Quality is A. If I can get his performance to an acceptable level (doubtful), he could be a great worker. Otherwise, he'll be there to squash openers and be a menace.

CGC Canadian Champion: Joey Poison
32 Year Old - Independent Star - Middleweight Regular Wrestler
Pretty good all around. Would work as a Main Eventer if his popularity increases. He'll be a "main" midcarder (meaning he'll get tons of air time and storylines) for awhile to see if mainstream audiences take a liking to him.

Rick Silver (me!)
24 Year Old - Independent Star - Middleweight Regular Wrestler
Of course I'm a future star. I'm awesome at everything! But I will be holding myself back for awhile. Just doing middle of the show matches for now. I'll probably even let myself get destroyed by Gargantuan a few times to see if I can help him out with his Performance ratings.

And that rounds out the workers that could have a nice future with CGC. The rest are just the grunts. A lot will be getting the boot. I'm going to look for young, quality workers that already have some good Entertainment skills to help build a few tag teams.

Prior to the show, I was informed that Jack DeColt had taken Philippe LaGrenier under his wing as a protege.

Angle: Alex DeColt comes down to the ring. He takes a microphone and starts talking to the crowd, before eventually getting interupted by Dan DaLay. They have a big argument, going back and forth on the microphone, before things take a violent turn and they start brawling. A whole host of staff hit the ring to break them up, and as they are being pulled apart it is clear a match is going to take place between them. (B)

Match: Philippe LaGrenier defeated Thrill Seeker in 8:18 by count out. (D+)
The colour commentary gave the match a boost. Philippe LaGrenier is improving in Technical skills. Philippe LaGrenier is improving in Performance skills.

Angle: Immediately following the previous match, LaGrenier and Thrill Seeker are still in the ring. Out of nowhere, Gargantuan hits the ring and attacks. The assault is quick and brutal, and leaves both team mates completely destroyed. (C-)

Angle: Alex DeColt had an interview hyping his upcoming singles match with Dan DaLay. (B+)

Match: Ricky DeColt drew with Shooter Sean Deeley in 4:31 following a double count out. (C)
Ricky DeColt is improving in Performance skills. Shooter Sean Deeley is improving in Flying skills.

CGC Canadian Title Match: Joey Poison defeated Bobby Thomas in 6:54 by pinfall with an Antidote Web. (D)
Joey Poison and Faith have great chemistry. Bobby Thomas seemed off his game tonight. The colour commentary gave the match a boost. Joey Poison is improving in Technical skills. Joey Poison is improving in Performance skills. Bobby Thomas is improving in Rumble skills.

Match: Alex DeColt defeated Dan DaLay in 7:31 by disqualification. (C+)
Dan DaLay is improving in Technical skills. Dan DaLay is improving in Performance skills.

Angle: Alex DeColt is being attacked by Dan DaLay in the ring. Seeing the assault, Jack and Ricky DeColt come running in and chase DaLay off, saving Alex DeColt from a serious beating. (B)

Final Rating: C
Att: 9,382
Rating: 1.11

Poor showing for my first show. C rated shows will not cut it.

According to the Dirt Sheet, Bobby Thomas basically laid an egg for his match. A few matches also suffered due to length (too short).

A few new faces...

Davis Wayne Newton
22 Year Old - Independent Name - Middleweight Regular Wrestler
Already has all of the tools to be a star. We just need to get him some popularity.

Jacob Jett
23 Year Old - Independent Stat - Lightweight Japanese Junior
Like DWN, Jett has all of the tools. He just needs some popularity, and hopefully the Sports Entertainment crowd doesn't reject his style.

Jamie Atherton
21 Year Old - Virtually Unknown - Lightweight Cruiserweight
Young worker from the new All Canada Pro Wrestling fed. He has some ability already. He needs some work but could be a future star.

Mainstream Hernandez
23 Year Old - Independent Name - Lightweight Regular Wrestler
Great worker who has made a name for himself in the States, but is still pretty unknown in Canada.

Sayeed Ali
23 Year Old - Independent Star - Heavyweight Brawler
Decent skills. Intend to use him in a tag team.

I've already let a few people go. The Soldiers of Fortune are gone. Brett Fraser is gone as well. There will definitely be more cuts in the next few months.

So both teams in the first dark match put on a good match. A C rating for dark match, I assume, is pretty good for two teams that are made of 3 workers who haven't debuted yet. I think I have two teams there. Time to give them names and start pushing the hell out of them.

Jacob Jett and Trent Shaffer
Rick Silver and Mainstream Hernandez

Any suggestions?

I have trouble with tag team names too but Shaffer has a history of name changes and since both Jett and Shaffer are high flyers you could change Shaffers name and give them a name that is a play on "Jett." Maybe something to do with flying high, or the airline industry. Not sure how good it is, but maybe Red Eye? I know its terrible, but like I said I can't really think of anything concrete myself either, just some ideas that maybe you could run with.

I probably should have planned this out more. I used too many new workers that didn't have any momentum or had low momentum. I messed up the order of the angles (the video should have been first). I meant to add my angles between the DeColts and Elite, but forgot to fit them in.

I stuck too much with the gimmick. The last match should have been 3v3 Elimination, and the rest of the card probably would have been better if I made normal matches. Too many workers that didn't deserve to be on a PPV.

Anyway....time to move on.

This guy is one of the best workers in the game, he just lacks Star Quality and Entertainment skills. He may not be a future star in this Sports Entertainment fed, but he'll be a solid worker that will put on, hopefully, solid matches every time he's out there.

That handicap match was a total bust. I expected a better match between Gryson and Jett as well.

The pre-show angle seemed to work so that'll become standard.

Hernandez has been under performing lately.

Looks like there's no way for me to avoid it (unless I get a lot better at booking), CGC is going to drop in popularity for awhile. As soon as I break up Elite and sorta break up The DeColts, I'll have much more "wealth" to spread around. Plus, Eminent and Wings of Fury should gain some good popularity over the next few months. I could probably find 1 or 2 more teams to through into the mix.

A graduate of the DeColt Power House dojo, I signed him up for $100 PPA. He will replace Warren Technique as my face Enhancement Talent. He's still very "green" - E+ Psychology, D- Consistency - but he has potential. Already has some Entertainment ability. He's only 18 so in several years, when he's in his early-mid 20s, he could be a big a player.

Warren Technique was let go.

D+!? I lost track of how much time went from match vs. angles....too much on the matches side and the crowd wanted more angles. Fuck.

Got the Canadian title back into the hands of a Midcarder. Ricky DeColt is pissed off though. I've given him 2 loses since I started, and he's angry over both of them. What a punk.

I think I also need to make this a 2 hour show. Too many workers are getting annoyed at being left off shows. The network won't allow it though.

He replaces Marty Papin as our Announcer. Papin was rated a C, Naess is B+. He's going to cost a lot more than Papin, but hopefully it'll be worth it. He's someone I can add to angles as the "interviewer" to give some angles a boost as well.

Marty Papin has been let go.

Well, I tested a few decisions and none worked out. I upped the Match Intensity from 20 to 25 for a few matches and they were all too intense for some fans. I also badly used the "Work The Crowd" note as well.

After the match, I saw that Eddie Chandler is now a "National Superstar" with an A in popularity in all Canadian regions. He's going to be my Ric Flair.

Mainstream Hernandez is up to an E popularity in British Columbia. Rick Silver's is up to a C. He's got a way to catch up, but Hernandez is gaining popularity quickly (He started off at F- in Canada I think, he's F+ in the other regions).

Not sure this tag team thing is working out. With both teams, there seems to be too much of a difference in popularity with the workers. Shaffer is more popular than Jett, and Silver is much more popular than Hernandez.

Ah well, I'll keep it going another month or two and see if Hernandez and Jett can make up the difference.

The show starts off with Alex DeColt coming down to the ring and explaining how his brother has gotten out of control. Ricky just will not listen to anyone and that he needs to be taught a lesson. If Ricky wants to earn Alex's, and the rest of the family's, respect back, he'll have to show he can be a winner.

Ricky is stunned. He genuinely looks like he doesn't know what his brother is doing. Alex explains that Ricky has let him and the rest of the family down. His attack on Jack proved it. Ricky says that was an accident. He meant to hit Alex because he kept pushing his buttons. Alex shrugs and says that he's the boss and Ricky will do what he says. (B-)

Shooter Sean Deeley defeated Joey Poison in 8:17 by submission with a Seated Stretch Armbar. (C)

Match: Dan DaLay defeated Ricky DeColt in 12:12 by pinfall with a DaLay Down after a distraction from Alex DeColt. (D+)
Dan DaLay and Ricky DeColt just don't click at all, and it showed in their performances. The match suffered due to its booking; there simply wasn't enough time for the workers to take a 'slow build' approach. Dan DaLay is improving in Performance skills.

(During the match) Ricky was beating DeLay and getting ready to try to finish him off when Alex got on the apron and started yelling at Ricky. Ricky turned to Alex and DeLay wrapped up Ricky to get the pinfall.

(After the match) A stunned Ricky DeColt looks at his brother Alex. Alex grabs a mic and says how disappointed he is. Ricky's expression goes from stunned to anger. Alex asks is Ricky has anything to say for himself. The crowd doesn't know how to react. At this point, they don't know who is face and who is heel.

Ricky grabs the mic from Alex and says "Fine, let's air all of the dirty laundry. Ever since father gave you control of the promotion, it's gone to your head. You try to control everyone like they are your slaves. A few weeks ago, I get blamed for you being attacked. Did you even check to see if I was in the building before you booked that match? No! I wasn't even there that night." During this time, Alex grabbed another mic.

Alex: Cry, cry, cry some more. Look, you had your...

Ricky: No, you look. I'm sick of it. You expect everyone to do exactly what you say. I'm through. I'm done with you. I'm going to go off on my own and find my own success. I don't need you around. You go your way, I go mine. Let's leave it at that.

Alex: You go your way, I go mine? Is that the idea?

Ricky turns his back to walk away and Alex hits him in the back of the head with his mic. Alex yells "You go WHERE I TELL YOU TO GO!" at the fallen Ricky. Alex then stomps on Ricky a few times. The crowd starts booing. They see now why Ricky was acting the way he was and they now booing loudly at Alex. Alex looks out to the crowd and appears very angry and disgusted that the crowd has dared turn their backs on him. He finally leaves the ring after stomping Ricky in the head a few more times. (B-)

Grabbed a few more skillful workers, but totally unknown in Canada, to work as openers.

Joey Beauchamp
33 Years Old - Independent Star - Lightweight Cruiserweight
A high flyer, might be too old to building into a star here. Has good skills in the ring and on camera. Could make him into a midcard regular with some work. For now, he'll help put over the heels.

Steven Parker
25 Years Old - Independent Name - Middleweight Regular Wrestler
Another great worker bu unknown in Canada. He'll help put over the faces. He has a bright future if he decides to stay with CGC.

Grease Hogg and Lead Belly were released.

Acid signs a written deal with TCW. So much for him and Queen Emily. I wasn't sure what I was going to do with them anyway.

I could tell once I saw the C for the Deeley - Ricky DeColt match that the rating would be bad.

Now I can stop this feud between LaGrenier and Grayson. Didn't turn out like I had hoped, and the tag teams just don't seem to be gaining any momentum, and I'm sure it has to do with Mainstream Hernandez just not having high popularity. Jacob Jett is also lacking in the popularity needed.

I'm thinking it's time to try to find a good enough tag team out there that I can bring in while Jett and Hernandez work on their popularity.

We renegotiated our agreement with the network. They would only extend for 1 more season (3 months - 12 episodes), and insisted on 100% Ad revenue. At least I got them to take on 10% of the costs....

I also adjusted the details. I was allowed to increase the show to 1 hour and 30 minutes, which will allow me to get more workers on the air. I wanted to go to 2 hours, but that was blocked.
