I doubt any Dems have the guts to do this, but I think the law gets gutted pretty quickly if it's used against anti-abortion demonstrators.

She really needs to learn to choose her words more carefully, especially as we have seen how literally people will take them in a worked up mindset.

In fairness, I think we need to give Maxine Waters a chance to clarify her comments on getting “more confrontational”, considering that the previous level of “confrontational” consisted in massive rioting, looting and destruction of hundreds of millions of dollars in private property.

Those words are also very similar to Trump's words before they stormed the capital, inciting violence.

context and cause matter. What Waters said was amazingly stupid, and she has to know her words will be used against her and the cause. That being said Waters is fighting for social equality and police to stop killing black men. Trumps merry band of idiots were fighting because they didn't like that their guy lost.

Trump could have prevented the insurrection with a simple statement saying he lost a fair election. Waters doesn't have that luxury.

I just can't bring myself to expend any energy fighting the pretend outrage over Waters' comments. The GOP doesn't care, they just see a potential political advantage to pretending to care.

Yeah, the party of "gun this, gun that" and go screaming at high schoolers on the street really aren't offended by "confrontational." They just don't like it when the opposition (or especially women of color) show a backbone.

For the billionth time, two wrongs don't make a right. Trump was DEAD WRONG. She is DEAD WRONG. Stop decrying whataboutism on one hand, while immediately reaching for it as soon as someone on "your side" does something inexcusable.

"Confrontational" need not be "violent." Passivity is a scale.

"We've got to stay in the street and demand justice," Waters said to reporters, according to video posted on social media.

"We're looking for a guilty verdict and we're looking to see if all of the talk that took place and has been taking place after they saw what happened to George Floyd. If nothing does not happen, then we know that we got to not only stay in the street, but we have got to fight for justice," she added.

Asked what protesters should do if there is no guilty verdict, Waters said protests should continue.

"We got to stay on the street. And we've got to get more active, we've got to get more confrontational. We've got to make sure that they know that we mean business," she said.

Asked about the curfew put in place, Waters said, "I don't think anything about curfew. Curfew means I want you all to stop talking. I want you to stop meeting. I want you to stop gathering. I don't agree with that."

Unless there is something missing from that, what part of that sentiment should change? "Confrontational?" "Curfew?" Regarding that last one, with the way things are headed (Florida) "curfew" is going to be about any time at all, now. But...everyone should just go home?

Republicans are going to paint anything that the left says as being much more radical that it actually is.

Also, if you got down to brass tacks, I'd say 95% of them would consider something like the Edmund Pettus Bridge march, if it happened today, "confrontational."

Neither she nor Biden should have talked about a favored verdict, but what Waters said is tame and only being seized as a call for violence as a political ploy.

It's incredibly tame and I didn't see it as a call to violence. Just going after the black woman knowing who their base is and what they feel about women and minorities.

Van Jones on CNN right now is highlighting that woman who held her phone up and recorded the murderous act. I am so glad she did.

Most likely. And thank heavens.

Question: how can you be guilty of two murder charges for the death of one person? Are they going to throw out the 3rd Degree charge since he is guilty of 2nd Degree? I've never noticed that in a trial before.

Thank goodness for the correct verdict and I hope this serves as a way to move forward, and serve as a starting point to effectively address Police brutality, weed out those that should not carry a badge, and provide better training, screening and support to those officers that serve their communities with distinction.

I also hope that this opportunity is embraced by everyone that has stood for this cause and we don't see "celebratory" violence, which will accomplish absolutely nothing but undermine the entire outcome of this moment of justice.

One is felony murder charge (the 2nd degree, also referred to as 2nd degree unintentional murder). The other is a traditional murder charge, with mens rea as to the murder.

That's really the only time (when you have murder and felony murder charges) you'll see that.

Actually no. Only 12 states prohibit it, it's allowed in the other 38. That's less than half as many states as have Republican governors.

I mean, if Waters truly was calling for violence, no, it's not right. I don't believe she was.

I 100% believe Trump is ok with calling for violence, and has.

Either way, the outrage is disingenuous when your side has been employing (or at least tacitly accepting) violence (slavery, lynchings, police brutality) for ages.

Absolutely. My point being that this was about as cut and dry a case as you could get. Had another white police officer gotten off afte a public murder, we would have seen shit I dont think we have seen yet.
