Another port of a big Euro board game, much awaited:

http://ipadboardgames.org/2013/agricola/

High ratings (and a pretty thorough review), but I have not yet bought it -- not an endorsement, just a FYI.

It plays true to the board game, and without all of the stocking the board or scoring gymnastics.

If you haven't played the board game. You are a medieval farmer, and remember that farming at that time was hard work. The game reflects that by being a very "tight" worker placement game. You need to accomplish a lot to score well, but you only have a limited number of actions. You can get more actions by growing your family, but then you have to feed those pesky kids. And you have to spend actions to collect resources, add onto your house(where else are those kids gonna sleep), plow fields, sow fields, build fences, herd animals, and much more. All in all this makes for a tight and somewhat stressful game as you strive to do everything with a limited number of actions.

A great board game, and a very nice implementation in IOS. The AI is passable, especially at the most difficult level. That said, I'm not good at this game, I just really enjoy playing it.

Saw this on another site.. haven't played it yet.

Three long-time game developers created a new football game, Your Turn Football. It is finally now live for iPhone, iPad, Android, and tablets. It's free. Think "Tecmo Bowl" meets "Words with Friends" except even more fun.

We did this on our own and have no money for marketing -- so we need your help in spreading the word about the game. Try it. If you like it, let people know about it!

We'd also love to hear what you think, and how we could make it even better in future updates.

Ok, I am really impressed by what I see so far. Really like the simple gameplay mechanics. It's a freemium game, but looks like you can have fun and earn money to buy better players just by playing the game. Not sure if there is any sort of "upgrade cap".

Looks like they will have league support in the future....

Right now it looks like Randoms, Facebook or folks from your Contact List. Needs Gamecenter support for sure.

I got it and the game looks really good if you like that style of game.

I've been having a little bit of a break from those type of board games for a bit though myself so haven't played it too much (probably half of my ipad apps are games of that nature). Plus a new expansion came out for the Ascension deck builder game so I've been playing that more anyways.

The game is really good though and I'm sure I'll get back to it once my burn out is over.

yeah, I'm sorta going the other way. Had not played Carcassonne in a while and restarted it this week and the itch to play some board style game is coming a bit... Reinstalled Tigris & Euphrates which I had never really given a shot and also New World Colony... We'll if I get tempted by Agricola.

Played. Meh.

I do wonder if there's a core structure there that could be the basis for a legitimate deck-building style game, of some sort.

GameStop's magazine (Game Informer) did a thing on iOS and Android games this month, a 10 best or something. Most were iOS:
Year Walk
*Ridiculous Fishing (oddly I bought this game right when it came out but haven't played yet)
Eclipse: New Dawn for the Galaxy (for the board game fans)
*Sorcery! - seems like a choose your own adventure/RPG type thing
*Badland - platformer
Star Wars Pinball (also available for Android) - from the folks at Zen
Magicka (also available for Android) - RPGish. Supposed to be good coop, but I've heard mixed reviews
Little Inferno - Puzzle game about burning things?
Frozen Synapse - (also available for Android) "indie tactical combat game"
Gemini Rue - adventure game that has science fiction and noir detective aspects
*Joe Danger Touch - similar to the PS3 games, updated to work well with touch controls
Star Command - build a starship? Similar to FTL?
Crabitron - "pop the bubble" type game or something. Apparently it's cute but I think it would get old?
*Slayin - endless runner with a sword. I actually have this one and it's cute but I thought the curve was a bit steep, I got bored.
Cut the Rope: Time Travel - (also on Android) more OmNom

On other iOS news, I believe that Limbo (platform/puzzler on 360) just got released on iOS. Bastion also had a temporary price cut which might still be active, down to 99 cents I think. I starred the games I have bought. If anybody wants to try co-op Magicka, I can also be persuaded to procure it.

And in case you haven't noticed, Jetpack Joyride has had more vehicles and stuff added. But now it has ads, too.

I'm getting much better at Carcassonne, wonder what playing a couple dozen games can do to the learning process. They have a very recent update to the game where it gives you visually post-game analysis of where your points went to, particularly where your (and your opponent's) fields were.

Now I am wonder what I am working towards. I'm playing against two easy AI opponents and can win some of the time. Do I increase the number of opponents or do I bump up the difficulty of the opponents?

Didn't know they added that feature. I'd bump up the difficulty of the opponents...that's how I seemed to do better.

Meanwhile, why aren't you playing any games with me yet? terpkristin

I went ahead and dropped my 99 cents on the game. I really like the sim elements of the game. I really hate that I can't bend in shots and my team sucks kicking goals on my assists. My cash remains low, but I am having a good time. I may restart my career soon just to get a better start to my career. I used the same career in my first 10 (free games) but didn't use my cash wisely for it.

I inexplicably started playing Dice Soccer again...first time through I liked it a bit, now I see its even more serious depth potential.

Wanted to add it to my iPhone (and use cloud backup to port) but its no longer in US iTunes Store. WTF?

Dice Soccer was some fun. I could never get multi-player to work, but I'd imagine that would have had a lot more potential.

Seriously, MP dice soccer with some forum-based house rules (draft?) could be pretty cool. That setup has (had?) big potential.

Trademania 2 is out for free with IAP. You will need $4.99 to unlock the other two levels, so it's somewhat of a wash. You start with 5 gold, and 35 gold costs $4.99.

You can use the gold for other things in-game, but the AI is as weak as it was in the first version. That being said, there is multi-player now and there is an interesting upgrading of properties that I haven't fully explored. You can upgrade your properties for a factory (money every turn), restaurant (better exchange rates on the goods you buy and sell), or hotel (higher rent).

it doesn't have a space in the title, if that helps

definitely available for iPad, but doesn't come up with a search without the spacing correct

I'm really underwhelmed by Plants vs Zombies 2 so far. Charging you money for plants that were in PvZ 1 is stupid, forcing you to grind content to avoid paying money to progress is stupid, and the power-ups aren't really very fun.

Being a pinball fanatic, I love pinball arcade. Zen is good, but I love seeing my favorite pins digitized. They just finished a kickstarter and the Terminator2 pinball is coming out at the end of this month. I cannot wait. I worked at an arcade when it first came out. I was in charge of the repairs of it and played that thing to death. (one night I stayed in the arcade until 3 in the morning playing it) (yes, I'm pathetic)

I am awesome at Agricola. I have no idea why, since I can never remember the rules all that well between times I play it, and still have never really grasped certain concepts, but I tend to win a lot.

I wish I was better at other games.

so, has anyone else picked up Pocket Trains yet? It's fun, gameplays is about the same as Pocket Trains but only one train can be assigned to a route between two cities so it is strategically different. I like it so far...

I'm in, just getting it now, thanks for the heads up. Really got a ton out of Pocket Planes, this appears to have similar look and feel. Good thing.

yes, very similar look and feel but as I said, some strategies will not work the same way. And the daily challenges are more of the single player variety, i.e. you don't team up with others but you have to deliver a certain number of items to a certain city by yourself...

So far I like it. Nimblebits games are usually quite fair in their use of IAP and special mony, in this case Bux. You can get plenty simply by playing the game. Save them cause they are needed to open crates will contain parts for future engines and fuel cars... I've got one express and it's the sh*t going 100mph

I picked it up about a week ago. I'm annoyed in that I can't seem to turn off notifications for them.
