NFL Week 13: The NFL is NOT targeting James Harrison. Honest...just ask them!

NFL official: League not targeting Steelers' Harrison

This article made me laugh for 2 reasons:

1) Were they going to come out and say "yes...we are targetting him...I mean watch him out there...he's really gonna hurt someone!!"

2) I never knew until I read the article that Merton Hank was the assistant director of operations for the NFL. It all makes sense now. He's angry at players for leading with their helmets because, had he done so during his career, his 4 foot neck would have snapped like a twig.

Maybe he will learn how to not be a dirty player and that will solve his problem.

I wonder how many of these guys who are fining the NFL players actually played football before. Do they realize that a tackle is made with the shoulders? Do they realize that the head happens to be between the shoulders and actually sticks out up to a foot above the shoulders? It's bound to happen. The NFL continues to make itself worse and worse.

Its understandable for the NFL to protect it's players but when they start coddling them, that's the problem. Hell these are grown man playing a kids sport, someone is bound to get hurt..

I use to love watching Merton do his thing on the field. A fantastic player that became an all-pro from out of nowhere.

Im not a big Steelers fan, but it is clear that the leaguehas been calling some teams and play3ers different than others this year. I could point you to some plays against David Garrard as well that were never called, and never fined, but are at the level or worse than others.

I understand that. I just don't see why one criminal act should somehow limit his job options when the NFL has nothing against it.

EDIT: The NFL has nothing that would prevent him from eventually coming back due to the crime.

"conduct unbecoming the NFL" is at the commissioner's discretion & seems to be the catch-all provision. If the NFLPA wants to fight for a p.o.s. like Vick then by all means, let them do so. Goodell fucked this up & puts the blame for that on himself.

edit: Correction, as of 2007, the phrase appears to be "conduct detrimental to the game"

I'll guess something that would prevent him coming back would be betting on games and certainly ones that he was in since it would taint the outcome of the games themselves.

I read on the sportsline NFL playoff scenarios blog (which is a great blog by the way, if you're into nerdy playoff scenario stuff), this is the first season since 2000 when there's no possible playoff clinching scenarios by week 13. The last few weeks could be very interesting.

Did Cincy not sell out their home game? I believe that happens if there is a black out.

Boo! Was hoping for more snow in GB. At least that would provide some entertainment during this certain beat down.

Somebody also tell the Packers to never wear this unis again. Absolutely hideous.

And the Vikes finally might be able to move past the "Favre era" as he got knocked out of the game today.

That intentional grounding call against Rodgers was amongst the lamest I've seen.

Fitting that it was a pass that got intercepted.

What an awful pass by Chad Henne. Brian Hartline had about five yards on Joe Haden, Henne throws it about ten yards short and it gets picked off. It could have been a touchdown.

Second time I've seen that call on similar plays this season. Earlier in the year we had this discussion on a pass thrown by Alex Smith that was called for intentional grounding. In the Week 3 or 4 thread I believe.

Green Bay is letting the Niners hang around and they need to take advantage with a TD drive.

Earl Bennett is really starting to look like a big time tough WR. Not often you see a wideout drag 4 guys downfield.

Absolutely awful no-call on intentional grounding, and on the next play the Packers get a TD. Horrible.

Yep. Why does Billick keep explaining that the QB is okay if he stays within the pocket?

Correct me if I am wrong, but I thought you had to be OUTSIDE the pocket to just chuck it anywhere to avoid intentional grounding.

The earlier one had a ball going right over a receiver's head - clearly a bad call. I wonder if the no-call on this one was a "make up" for the earlier one?

Dixon needs longer cleats. And a three and out here is awful. Good bye any chance at winning this game.

During the Giants route of the Foreskins, Joe Zornahan, III lost a fumble call challenge and the ref said, "Denver is charged a timeout." Then he corrected himself.

Probably good for the legacy if no one even notices you coached for Dan Snyder.

What the hell is with these refs? Taking days on the TD call, allowing a ton of extra-curricular stuff after the whistle...I didn't expect the Niners to even be IN this game, but these refs are killing me.

Davis is the only receiver the Packers really need to worry about. How do they lose track of him like that?

Tarvaris Jackson, 12-19, 170 yards, 2TDs and a INT.

Good thing they kept Favre in there all this time because he gave them the best chance.
