It seems like the FPG may be in line with the star players, they just get them in more minutes played... so their foul rating might be coming in low because they averaged 3.5 FPG, but that number is skewed because they played 45 MPG.

Just looked at some comparative numbers and it all looks right, except for the minutes. Tough.

Code:
REAL LIFE Royals '65-'66 - 3rd Most Total Fouls Starting Five MPG FPG PER 36 FPG Robertson 46.0 3.0 2.3 Lucas 44.5 3.5 2.8 Smith 37.3 3.5 3.3 Hawkins 26.9 3.5 4.6 Hairston 24.9 3.0 4.3 TOTAL 179.6 16.5 17.3 AVE 35.92 3.3 3.5

Code:
REPLAY SIM Pistons '65-'66 - 3rd Most Total Fouls Starting Five MPG FPG PER 36 FPG Davis 32.4 2.5 2.8 Hairston 32.1 3.8 4.2 Vaughn 30.3 2.6 3.1 Pettit 30.2 3.7 4.4 Swain 27.2 3.7 4.9 TOTAL 152.2 16.3 19.4 AVE 30.44 3.26 3.9

After doing some comparisons and looking at numbers back and forth, I can't tell if any of this data helps or not. Incredibly small sample size, but it's pretty much in line with what I'm consistently seeing.

Could it be a problem with the Hawks moving from city to city historically?

the problem lies almost solely in the high fouls/low minutes imo, not the modifiers. Wilt averaged 46+ minutes his first 5 years and never below 42. Averaged 2 fouls per game (also due to him famously going out of his way avoiding to foul out, often to the detriment of his team)

Wilt Your Game 1960 per36 minutes = 36.1/15.9
Wilt real life best season 61/62 = 37/19

@ HR: Maybe try to somehow make 60s coaches run smaller rotations ? like 7/8 rather than 8/9 players getting action ?

I guess a better comparison might be to just look at a star's career FPG/MPG/Per36FPG from real life to in a replay... you'll probably get the same FPG averages (which is how the sim works, it's taking the players RL career stats and applying them to the in game ratings), however it's not taking into account the minutes played and the lower fouls per 36.

Here is a bit of a crazy idea...I admit that I am over-dependant on the colored boxes to judge ability/potential, but work with me here. A full league has quite a few blue/blue players, but that doesn't represent the once a generation type of player like Wilt, Jordan, etc. Can ratings go higher than 10 (or 100 with a full blown scouting) and create the extremely rare, once every 15-20 drafts, purple/purple type of player?

Hiring Staff/Personal if I have more then one League Active should be done at once same with Draft Lottery and Draft or better yet with Free-Agent Period and interview other people's staff/Personal for Jobs.

The total fouls are fine in historical sims. The issue would be who is getting them. Next up for that is some work on the fouling rating.

I think this is a phenomenal idea.

Nah...either there is a sorting issue or it isn't finding Wilt in the retired players list. Try going to the Hawks season leaders under the team history section and see if you can double click on him and get the player profile to come up. This will tell me which issue it is likely to be.

Would it be possible to get an email when your head coach retires?

The list I posted earlier has both retired and active players in all-time scoring list.

You should get one. I'll have to double check and make sure that is working.

Ok, that is different. That says there is an issue mixing in the active players. Easier to find.

That might be one of the solutions. I'll also probably need to allow the game to attempt to play players for 48 minutes.

John Austin & Johnny Austin is the same guy.

Brian Williams and Bison Dele from Arizona both are in the database (Brian Williams changed his name to Bison Dele)

Will Solomon and a Willie Solomon out of Clemson.

Wes and Wesley Matthews - not Wesley Matthews dad. You have Wes Matthews debuting in 09 and Wesley in 10.

Same goes for Daniel ('09) and Danny ('10) Green. Same for BJ ('09) and Byron ('10) Mullens.

Keith Anderson and Kim Anderson are the same person. The real Kim Anderson that played in 1978's full name was Keith Kim Anderson.

Two John Brisker's, and two Evric Gray's of which there is only 1.

A number of Mcxxxxx are missing the proper capitilization of the third letter.

Found an Obrien and O'brien O'neil etc and what have you are incorrectly entered.

Rb Lynam should be R.B. Lynam just to keep with the consistency of the rest of those type of names.

I'd suggest Lafayette Lever becoming Fat Lever. If you search for 'Lafayette Lever' in BBRef it redirects you to Fat Lever. Good enough for me, calling him Lafayette is the equivalent of calling the other guys Tyrone Bogues, Vernell Coles, or Eric Floyd.

I'd argue for Flip Murray too, but his BBref page officially lists him as Ronald Murray.

Also, if Lew Alcinder in this game is drafted as Kareem, Lloyd Free is World B. Free to start, Chris Jackson & Oliver St. Jean are drafted as Mahmoud Abdul-Rauf and Tariq Abdul-Wahad respectively, then you probably have a case for changing Ron Artest to Metta World Peace at this point.

Does it mess up the database if a player doesn't have a last name? Or better to remove the first name? (Nene instead of Nene Hilario would be preferred)

---

And I just finished going through the whole database. That should be it on duplicates.

I'm sure if I missed one I'll find it and annoy you.

Yeah Korme.

with version 0.7 I was able to trade for the Celtics 1985 and 86 picks which should have been illegal with my rules set of not leaving them without a first round pick in consecutive years. First time the message that blocks this didn't appear.

I'm working on getting the stats together for 2012 right now so I can post an updated version of the DB. I'll run some checks to see if I can find any other duplicates as well.

Re: Nene....if you must have one name it is going to work best putting it in the last name section. The editors might insist on a first name as well if you open him there.

With the 3.07 update the 60's numbers are a lot closer to the real life numbers per 36 wise thanks HR!! I wish there was a way to get this game more exposure.

Yes. This is the Wilt coding I talked about earlier.

Also, having annual totals correct and not getting outlier players to be great is an issue in all sports sims. Over at OOTP, Markus often talks about annual totals being right on (there is a big comparison screen in historical sim leagues, for example) but getting Ruth to hit 50-60 homers in the 1920's is still hard--although he's got that to happen regularly now.

In OOTP, there are ratings over the supposed max, ie 1-20 scale a 22 in power. You can toggle seeing this rating on and off, but it is still there.

Just a suggestion that works in another great game.

Something odd is happening with trades in my game since the 3.07 update.

First, the CPU is offering trades that they aren't willing to accept. This isn't happening with all of the trades the CPU offers, but a fair amount of them. On top of that, it also seems like the Outgoing, Incoming, and Needed Salary fields aren't updating properly on the trade screen. There have been a few times I've offered a trade that should not be allowed due to salary differences that can still go through. However, a few clicks around on that screen (View Player, Submit Trade but cancelling, etc) eventually cause the numbers to update. Even then, adding or removing players won't always update those numbers.

I saw that last night, too on a deal the AI offered me. Worked the 2nd time ,but the first time it did that where it said I needed salary when the deal wasn't pushing me over the cap.

I just had to go in, click the offer again and it worked tho.

I had this happen as well. If I tried to add more salary to the deal the amount needed didn't change. But if I exited the trade screen and wend back in, the deal worked.

Award summaries for ABA still disappear when ABA closes.

Also got some funky things happen with ABA players, guys in the primes of their careers never signed with anyone else after ABA closed (Dan Issel won 4 Playoff MVPs in a row by the end of '75 and never signed with an NBA team after, at 30 years old and still a blue guy). I don't know why this happened as I just noticed it many years later looking back.

Fixed for version 3.0.8

Also got some funky things happen with ABA players, guys in the primes of their careers never signed with anyone else after ABA closed (Dan Issel won 4 Playoff MVPs in a row by the end of '75 and never signed with an NBA team after, at 30 years old and still a blue guy). I don't know why this happened as I just noticed it many years later looking back.

Both should be fixed now for 3.0.8

In OOTP, there are ratings over the supposed max, ie 1-20 scale a 22 in power. You can toggle seeing this rating on and off, but it is still there.

Just a suggestion that works in another great game.

Once you reach a certain point this really does become the simplest solution. I won't hesitate to go with that approach if it becomes obvious that is what needs to happen to make this work the best.

Hi Brian, what is the status on created players (FBB as well as FBCB) not generating enough FTs and way too many 3s ?

Also, and maybe you answered it before (i tend to go out the loop with me being around for US night hours mostly), is there a chance at the game creating foreign guys for the NBA and other leagues while still importing FBCB files ? I´d absolutely love seeing my 5´11 SG tear up the german league or my 6´6 PF win a rebounding title in slovenia, but not at the cost of the game creating no local players for those leagues.
(so right now i play US leagues only)

definitely loving the game so far though

The issue with 3s seems much better with the latest patches. Still need to get the FTs up a few more attempts. That might be partially due to the tweaks to fouling in this next patch.

My explanation of how this works might have been confusing. The FBCB imports will take over only the league you select for them...most likely the US league. If you had the German league running as well, the game would still be creating a separate pool of new players for that league that would be mostly German. The biggest step here is that if an elite player pops up in the German pool, they wouldn't move over to the US draft.

Will this affect the team csv's I changed? Do I need to add a new row for all of the teams for the new year?

The CSVs already had 2012 included. This is only for the players file.

Is it possible to have more than 15 players? The other day the game told me I had to cut players to get to 15 when I had 16 players but the CPU has 20 players almost every time I try to make a trade.
