1988 Axl Rose died a little inside last night

Last night, Mrs. A and I (White, mid-30s) were driving back to our suburban house with our kids piled in the back of our sensible maroon hatchback.

And Sweet Child O' Mine came on (gotta love mobile Pandora), and the two of us started singing along like schoolgirls.

And at some point, I realized that whatever vision GnR had for this song, it probably was not a suburban couple in their 30s singing along with it with their toddler in the back of the car.

Basically, rock music seems to take this inevitable move from cutting edge to mainstream. Music that used to get the attention of the censors decades ago now seems either bubble gum or oldies or classic or whatever.

At some point, I'd expect, they will be playing Too Drunk to Fuck at nursing home mixers and no one will bat an eye.

Oh, and not that any of you were wondering, but Appetite for Destruction totally holds up.

Actually, of all the members of Gn'R, I'd be willing to bet that Axl may have been thinking that very thing when writing that song. I know half the reason the band split was because Axl wanted to do a lot more ballads (plus he wanted to incorporate some electronic sounds) and the rest of the boys wouldn't have it.

as far as I'm concerned, 1988 Axel Rose can go fuck himself with all the other versions of himself

25 years ago, Judas Priest was being sued for causing kids to commit suicide. Now, their music is used to sell Burger King and Honda Odyssey.

Axl Rose stated that his original concept for the video focused on the theme of drug trafficking. According to Rose, the video was to depict an Asian woman carrying a baby into a foreign land, only to discover at the end that the child was dead and filled with heroin. This concept was rejected by Geffen Records.

That would have thrown people for a loop..
