10 year landmark in FOFC history
It was 10 years ago (Feb. 23rd, 2000) that the infamous Dave Dial incident took place that led to mass bannings, the introduction of Stix, and the eventual formation of what we now know as Front Office Football Central. Hard to believe. Here is a link to a newsgroup thread that shines a light a bit on what was going on at the time.

I remember those days, I would completely ignore the OT stuff and just read the FOF info. (I found the message boards/FOF right before FOF2 was released) Of course, now, I'm facinated by the history. And still don't understand what the "Dave Dial incident" was.
Edit: I do vaguely remember two forums briefly existing at the same time, but with all the posters moving over to the new place. Last edited by molson : 02-23-2010 at 02:23 PM. |

Quote:
In a nutshell (I think Sack posted this about 5 years ago): 1) Sycophantic flunky (Dial) stages coup, arranges for former boss (Tony) to be fired. 2) Said sycophantic flunky shouts the firing from the rooftops, asks moderator at FOFC (me) to ban Tony to prevent him from saying anything that will make him look bad. Moderator refuses and posts all of S.F.'s emails that show what a douchebag he really is. 3) S.F. turns to one of Tony's other subordinates (Chubby) to take over the site, on condition that Tony and myself be banned. Subordinate refuses. 4) S.F. brings Mullet Boy (STIX) from another forum to "restore order." Mass bannings ensue. Board riots, heads elsewhere. 5) Cooler heads (CEO of game site) prevail, former moderator (me) is restored to his position with assurances that S.F. will no longer interfere. There is much rejoicing. 6) A few months later, Tony lands on his feet at GameSpy, community picks up and follows suit. There is much rejoicing. Fun days. I remember telling Dave to get his head out of his ass or something to that effect. Of course, we eventually left GameSpy too... Old post about Dialgate - Front Office Football Central Forums - Front Office Football Central Dial really was a piece of work. I remember something about him getting caught cheating in an online fantasy league with some people and him leaving in a huff. Last edited by Blackadar : 02-23-2010 at 05:19 PM. |

Hillarious.
Was GA-Sports some kind of mega-international corporation? I have no idea what they did other than host message boards. I remember always being surprised that they had all these bickering employees and coups and things going on. Also funny is the possessiveness and turf wars over small pieces of an infinite internet.
