Any Hearts of Iron Players?
I'd like to see if we can get a MP game some night.
I'll even volunteer to lead the Axis side |

Yup. I'll play.
Fritz? BTW, I've already upgraded to 1.04. Seems promising. I posted the link to the real North American patch in the Game Reviews Forum. |

I just recently got the game, and am still learning the ropes, but I'd be interested in giving it a shot some night as well.

I doubt I can because of the time-zone problem, but I wouldn't mind a bit of MP.

I'd be up for a game sometime as well, weekends are best. Been awhile since I've played it, but I'd love to give MP a try someday.

I'm not sure what's happening for me on Suday...I have to pick up my daughter from visiting her grandparents. I could play Saturday night...but you youngsters probably have fun stuff to do.

this idea die or no? I'm guessing so, seeing as how no one has said anything and the proposed dates are here.
Anyway, thought I'd throw in my name if any other folks are interested in playing tomorrow or maybe waiting until next weekend, or whatever. |

I played a bit of MP with a friend once, actually the only HoI game I'd played. It ain't a short deal, not something we'd finish in one sitting for sure.

Anyone want to take a stab at what makes HOI special? I've read a few reviews over on GameRankings and I've rarely seen such diversity. Some folks have it rated at 90% and some at 40%. Why the diversity of opinions and what makes it special if you guys are still playing it?

Blackadar: It does many things. From the diplomatic side, to the domestic side, to the military side. Some think a WW2 sim should only focus on the military side alone. It's a jack of all trades, master of none, to some.

Blackie,
HOI is hard to pin down. Some pitch it as an RTS game, but it is more than that. The combat is abstract, but strategy is key. Some elements are very realistic, and some are poorly executed. Also, the game is still evolving, as with other Strategy First titles, they will continue patching until the game is done. I think everyone has a different idea about what HOI should be, and it leaves some cold. If you are looking to replay WWII exactly, this isn't your game. |

I'm loving it for the simple fact it's the only Grand Strategy game encompassing the whole of WW2. I'm just enjoying playing it as a huge what if game, I find myself starting new games of it all the time just to try and change history.
I can definitely see where there is varying reviews, it's not a game that'll knock your socks off, but if you have that itch for a grand WW2 game, it's the best there is, not to mention the only as far as I know. |

Blackie,
I think you will find the diversity in opinions based on the gameplay and philosophy of the gameplay rather than the game itself. Basically, the game was made with direction and I think that direction was realized. It's not that the cake was cooked poorly, but that some people don't like chocolate lemon cake. |

I ended up being busy working through the weekend, so sorry if I missed a game, but let me know if another comes up.
As for the game, I agree with Dutch. Not everyone got into the depth of the game. Gamespot's review wasn't particularly high, but you could tell it was reviewed by someone not used to, or with an interest in, those types of games. |
