Week 6:

Academic News:

WR Michael Howard was suspended for the next 3 weeks

That certainly hurts our explosive offensive.

FB Louis Liske had his suspension continued for 3 weeks. Not a big deal in the scheme of our current offense.

OG David Carter and OLB Jeff Williams are now eligible and this helps our depth at their positions.

Polls:

We remain at #3 despite the impressive win.

We have a bye this week.

Week 7:

Randy is probable with his hamstring injury.

WR Michael Howard has a partially torn hamstring and is out for at least a few weeks. I guess his academic suspension had perfect timing!

MLB Robert Peete is probable with his thumb injury.

CB Dwone Secules pulled his groin muscle and is questionable.

SS Harry Bartrum is questionable with his knee injury.

Now, I've got a big decision to make. I think I'll make it a poll in the dynasty section.

Do I start Randy now?

Do I start Randy once he is 100%?

Or do I go with the en fuego Sedrick Sanders who has a chance to win the Heisman even though he didn't start early in the year?

Stick with Sanders......A national championship, and back-to-back, should be the top goal.

Potential
Has the tools to eventually become one of the most accurate passers in America. As he continues to grow, his touch passing game could become as good as the pros. His arm strength will lead to some unbelieveable passes as he matures. Might turn out to be a decent scrambling quarterback, but probably nothing special.

You've gone with Randy this long and he is lights out this year when he is healthy. There is very little drop-off with Sanders coming in for him, which is great, but Randy is completing 83% of his passes and has a 240+ rating in his time this year.

That said, I think you are crazy putting him in at any less than 100%. The guy gets hurt enough when he is healthy, let along "Probable".

I agree with hoopsguy. Randy should sit unless he is 100% if Sanders can play.

I'll decide by the time I'm done work this evening, but I'm leaning towards Randy too at this point. I'd love to have a Heisman winning QB, as I think it *might* help recruiting, but I think we'll probably get a good QB next year no matter what. I've stuck with Randy this long and this is his story, but I'm still thinking about it. If I do start Randy, I am going to wait until he is 100%.

BTW, this dynasty is inspiring me to start one up for BYU or Memphis....I haven't decided yet, and I won't start until I am travelling in 2 weeks.

Very cool. I look forward to reading it.

Edit: Also, I need to decide after this season on whether or not I should continue this dynasty or start a new dynasty at a weak school and work my way up (with the eventual goal of becoming coach of USC.) If I continue this dynasty, I'll start a new thread for the post-Randy age.

Depth Chart Issues:

I'm going to keep Randy at #3 one more week, but he will return to the #1 role once he recovers fully.

Howard's injury moves Franklin up to #3, Sayers up to the #4 slot, and Jr receiver Leon Counts into the #5 role.

Even though Robert Peete is getting better, I'll leave him as the emergency MLB for one more week.

I'm also giving Harry another week to get better.

Dwone will get a week as the #4 CB and will only play if the other guys are hurt.

Polls:

Miami lost to #11 Clemson 23-21. As a result, they've dropped to 5th and we've moved up to #2.

Preview:

Today we travel to play a 2-2 Oregon State team which has had a mediocre offensive performance this year. They have a star in HB Lee Don, but their passing game hasn't been that good.

Their offense is ranked 75th while their defense is ranked 42nd. Senior CB Bob Knight is the star of their defense. Bob has 7 PD and 3 picks already this year. We haven't thrown any picks with our top two QB's, hopefully Bob doesn't change that.

Our Offense is ranked 1st in the nation with an average of almost 560 yards per game. Our defense is ranked 21st.

We are 20 point favorites on the road.

33,000 fans here today. Light rain and perfect temp to start the game.

Kelley starts us at our 31.

Malcolm starts off with a 2 yard loss on the first play, a run.

Malcolm only gets 1 yard the next play.

Nex play Sanders connects with Williams for 21.

Sanders connects with Jones for 19. Whew, was starting to worry that my OC forgot my gameplan

Sanders throws to Jones on an out, he stiff arms a guy, breaks away, 30 yard TD!!!! 6-0 as we miss the XP!

Sanders was 3 of 3 for 70 yards on that drive.

They start on their 33.

Wow, their QB just threw a ball deep into coverage on 3rd and 10 and they caught it for a 43 yard play.

They drive inside our 10, but Bratton stuffs them on 3rd and 3 for no gain. 24 yard FG is good to make it USC 6 - Oregon State 3.

Betters with a great return takes it to their 48.

Sanders with a quick pass to Jones, he catches it, but is popped by the Safety and fumbles it. Oregon State recovers.

They put together a surprisingly good drive and get inside our 5, but we stop them on 3 consecutive plays. 6-6 game after they kick the FG.

Malcolm fumbles on the first play, but Walker recovers it for us.

3rd and 11 Sanders hits Kelley for 14 yards to convert it.

They stop us on our next 3rd and 10 and we end up punting.

End of 1: 6-6 tie.

They hit a 40 yard fly pattern to convert a 3rd and 10 and drive across midfield.

The put together a 10 play 77 yard drive and end with a 2 yard TD pass to their 3rd WR. 13-6.

Sanders with 2 good passes to get us to midfield, but he misses his next 2 throws which forces us to punt from about midfield.

We force a 3 and out deep in their territory.

A good punt starts us on our 33.

Sanders overthrows the WR on 2nd and 7 and underthrows on 3rd down. The rain appears to be bothering him a bit.

They start on their own 37.

On 3rd down, they connect on a 33 yard pass. We are really missing Dwone.

They drive inside the 15, but we stop them on 3rd and 4. They go for it on 4th down, but a holding call changes their mind. They kick the short FG. 16-6 lead for Oregon State!

We start on our 30.

Sanders hit Kelley for a quick 7.

Sanders with a screen to Malcolm for 11.

Sanders throws it very well to Kelley on the quick out for 7, but we accept a holding call instead.

Sanders throws it to Eric Williams on a quick hitch for 6.

Sanders with a check down to Kelley for 2.

Sanders hits Kelley for 7 to convert the 3rd down.

24 yard pass to Kelley to get inside the 5.

Sanders hits Malcolm for a 3 yard TD. Sanders was 7 of 7 on that drive! 16-13.

They start on their 35 with 90 seconds left.

Their QB shreds us with quick passing down the field. Our scouts didn't think this QB really had any talent, but he is killing us today.

We stop them outside the 15 and they kick the 33 yard FG. 19-13.

Halftime: Oregon State leads 19-13. Sander's stats: 15 of 19 for 189 yards 2 TD's 0 INT's.

We force a 3 and out. Maybe our defense is finally waking up.

We start on our 34.

We get stopped on their 45 and punt it into the endzone.

They get another big pass to start their drive. Their WR's aren't anything great either (although our scouts think they are average which is better than their estimate of the QB who is shredding us.)

Lee Don ends the drive with a 32 yard run in which he plowed over 2 of my defenders. 27-13 after the 2 point conversion is good.

Kelley hurts his elbow on the drive, and has to leave the game.

Sanders throws a deep pass that is intercepted by FS Mack Shievers. I tried to recruit that kid too...

We stop them around our 30. They miss the 46 yard FG attempt! 27-13.

They are covering our downfield receivers and Sanders is settling on short passes, but they stop us short of midfield.

We punt to their 25.

Bratton with a facemask on the first play gives them a free 15.

They connect for 10 yards on a 3rd and 8. This QB is really annoying me.

End of 3: 27-13 lead for Oregon State.

We stop them at our 20. They kick the 38 yard FG. 30-13. We need some explosive offense to get back in this one.

We start on our 15.

Pass Interference gets us 11.

Defensive holding gets us 10 more.

Sanders hits Jones for a quick 7 as his deep options were covered.

Sanders hits Jones for 21.

Malcolm with a 13 yard run on the sweep.

Holding on Meade negates a 8 yard pass.

1st and 20 on their 33. Sanders hits Jones for 30 yards!

Sanders hits Tony Seau on a quick hook for a 3 yard TD. 30-20 with 11 minutes to go in the game.

They get a screen pass to Don for 5 to convert a 3rd and 4.

A 8 yard pass converts their next 3rd and 6.

They are eating up clock.

Betters picks off the next pass! 8 1/2 minutes left. We have it on their 42.

Sanders overthrows his receiver. Sayers is hurt trying to go high for that pass.

Sanders hits Jones in stride for 15.

Sanders throws it too hard and Jones can't catch it!

2n and 10 on their 28. Sanders undethrows Franklin.

3rd and 10: Sanders hits Franklin for 15 on the deep out.

1st and 10 on the 13: Sanders with a quick pass to Malcolm, but he only gets 1.

Sanders hits Jones on a curl for 12 yards and a TD!!! 30-27 with 5 1/2 minutes to go.

Let's go defense...

Touchback. Good job Mason.

Their QB throws for 9 on 1st down.

A throw of 6 for the first.

We stuff Don for a 1 yard loss.

Play fake, but they overthrow their WR.

Sheesh, he scrambles and throws it for 27 to convert 3rd and 11!

We stuff them on 1st down on our 40.

We stuff them on 2nd down.

3rd and 9, we must stop them here. Don with a good run, but he only gets 6!

They make a 50 yard FG. 33-27 with 2 minutes left!

Betters returns it to our 28 to star the drive.

False start pushes us back 5.

Sanders hits Franklin for 26!

Sanders is sacked by DT Harold Bono which costs us 5 and plenty of clock.

Sanders is sacked by DT Mike Anderson.

Sanders is brough down by FS Mack Sievers!

4th and 17 - Sanders is sacked by DE Ray Newman...

Disgusting.

I guess the Sanders vs Randy conversation was a bit premature.

Game over. 33-27 loss to Oregon State.

Pros: Not much. Good passing yardage at least. At least the loss was early enough, that we might climb back in the polls..

Cons: Horrendous defense against a mediocre QB. Dwone's worth to this defense was just really shown.

Injury Report:

Randy is 100% again.

WR Michael Howard is recovering very well from his hamstring injury. He could be ready to play again next week if his grades improve enough.

WR Billy Kelley suffered a nerve injury in his arm. He is doubtful.

WR Dick Sayers has suffered a spinal compression injury! His season (and career likely) are over.

DE Jim Stacy suffered a pulled Oblique muscle. He is probable.

MLB Robert Peete is 100%

Dwone is probable with his groin injury.

CB Gerry Brown suffered a spinal injury this game. He is out for the season!

SS Harry Bartrum is mostly recovered from his knee injury and is probable this week.

Depth Chart Issues:

Randy moves back to #1, which became a much easier choice because Sedrick managed to lose. Sure the defense let us down, sure the O-Line let us down, but Sedrick should have won if we wanted to keep his job as #1.

Of Course, Sedrick only drops to #2 in the depth chart.

Sayers is of course removed from the depth chart.

Franklin will have to start for us.

Kelley will be the #3 receiver because we need him this game.

Counts will be our #4 receiver.

I'm taking a huge chance with Kelley this week...

Sophomore Kevin Posey becomes our #5 receiver by default.

Jim Stacy is going to continue to start despite his injury.

Robert Peete moves back into his backup MLB role.

CB Gerry Brown has to be removed from the depth chart.

Dwone returns to his starter's role despite not being 100%.

By default, Freshman EJ Evans becomes our 3rd string CB at each positon.

I push Harry Bartrum back into his starting SS role.

Polls:

That loss dropped us to #5 and propelled Oregon State to #23.

Full polls will start next week.

Preview:

Today we host Cal. Cal is 4-2 and we are 5-1. We certainly can't afford another loss.

Cal's offense is 76th and is led by HB Ed Angsman who has over 800 yards rushing on the year.

Their defense is 49th and is led by FS Raonall Dun who isn't nearly as good as Bob from last week. Raonall has 54 tackles and 3 INT's on the year.

Despite the subpar game last week, our offense is 1st in the nation with over 522 yards per game. Our defense is 44th and is giving up 370 per game.

They have a reasonably good QB, and I hope our defense plays much better this week as we are getting back Dwone and Harry.

Despite our WR injuries, we are running the same wide open offense.

We are focusing on stopping the run defensively.

We are 10 point favorites at home.

Another sell out. It is 74 and sunny.

Posey with a weak kickoff return and we start on our 11.

Randy with a quick pass to Kelley for 22 to start us off.

Randy hits Kelley on a streak, Kelley outraces the entire defense! 67 yard TD!!!! 7-0! Way to come back Randy! That drive took just over 20 seconds

They start on their 15.

We force a 3 and out!

Very bad punt allows us to start on their 39.

Randy hits Jones on a cross, he breaks away from a defender. 39 yard TD!!!! 14-0. Their starting CB hurt his leg on the play and probably won't retun since he had to be carted off the field. 14-0 with over 12:30 left in the 1st quarter

They start on their 17.

Kevin Thompson stuffs them for a short gaino on 1st down.

Terry Betters picks off a deep pass on 2nd down. Jim Stacy exacerbated his injury and has to leave the game.

We start on our 35.

Randy hits Jones for 6.

Randy hits Eric Williams for 20.

Randy throws it to Franklin for 19!

Malcolm runs it for 2.

Rady hits Leon Counts in stride, but he drops the ball.

Randy hits Kelley for 25 yards and a TD!!! 21-0. With almost 9 minutes left in the 1st, Randy has already thrown for almost 200 yards and 3 TD's!!!

They start on their 37 thanks to a short kick by Mason.

We hold their running back to 2 yards on each of his 3 carries and force a punt.

A good punt pins us back at our 5.

Malcolm runs it for 6 and a face mask adds 5 more yards to give us breathing room.

Malcolm runs it for 3 on the draw.

Malcolm runs it for 3 more on a toss.

Randy hits Franklin for 5 to convert the 3rd and 4.

Franklin runs a reverse for a yard.

Randy throws it to Franklin for 6.

Randy scrambles, rolls right, throws it to Counts, he is hit as he throws. Randy hurts his back! He has to leave the game, and it is doubtful he will return. We punt as his throw was bad.

First play, they throw deep. Ferrario intercepts it and returns it 69 yards for a TD! 28-0 with 3 minutes left in the 1st.

Randy's stats before he was hurt (in just under 12 minutes of PT): 9 of 11 for 209 yards and 3 TD's 0 INT's.

Their next drive has 2 big plays including a 26 yard TD run by Ed Angsman to make it 28-7.

We start on our 31 as Betters has a nice return.

Sanders hands off to Malcolm who runs for 19.

Sanders hits Jones on the quick out for 12.

Malcolm is stuffed on 1st down.

2nd and 10 on their 38: Malcolm runs it for 4.

End of 1: USC 28 - Cal 7.

Sanders overthrows Franklin on 3rd down and we attempt and make a 52 yard FG. 31-7.

Sanders does much better on our next drive which ends in a TD pass. 38-7

They manage to work down field for a FG on their next drive. 38-10.

Sanders leads us down the field for another crisp drive just before halftime which ends a in a TD to Counts! 45-10.

Halftime: 45-10. Sanders halftime stats 8 of 12 for 178 yards and 2 TD's. Not as good as Randy's that were in less time, but still good enough

I decide to work on my book as this one is over, and I could let it go in cruise control..

Our defense is dominating this QB and we are dominating period. I come back a bit later to watch Sanders throw a TD to our backup TE Artose Morgan.

A great kickoff return starts them on their 1, where the backup QB throws a TD. 55-17

End of 3: 55-17.

Ouch, with 8 minutes left Franklin just hurt his finger and has to leave the game.

We miss a short FG and it remains 55-17.

End of Game. 58-17 win.

Pros: Our offense was simply amazing. We put up over 700 yards of offense! Even our backups played well. Donckers made some nice runs in the 4th after Malcolm came out. The defense was very good as well.

Cons: Not much, other than Randy being hurt again.

Week 9:

FB Louis Liske and WR Michael Howard have been restored their eligibility. That is great in Howard's case.

The big negative is that SS Kevin Thompson (who had a huge game as the backup last week and was going to start if Harry re-hurt himself) is suspended for the next 3 weeks.

Injury Report:

Randy herniated a disc in his back. He is out for at least a month! I guess Sanders gets to start most of the season after all..

WR Lennox Franklin dislocated his finger and is doubtful for this week.

WR Michael Howard is probable with is hamstring injury

WR Kelley is still doubtful with his elbow nerve injury. However, he played well with the injury last week, and I'm going to press my luck.

WR Dick Sayers is out with his spinal injury.

OG Eric Bieniemy fractured a finger but is probable.

CB Gerry Brown is out with his spinal injury.

DE Jim Stacey is 100%

CB Dwone Secules is 100%

SS Harry Bartrum is 100% (very important with Kevin's suspension.)

Depth Chart Issues:

Randy drops off the depth chart with his injury.

Sanders is the #1 QB. The raw Larry Garron becomes our #2 guy. The horrendous walkon Freshman Bill Christensen becomes our #3.

I don't want to remove Keith's redshirt, but if Sanders or Garron goes down, I will remove Keith's redshirt.

Liske becomes our primary backup FB again.

Due to Kelley's injury, I'm going to keep him a the #3 spot. Howard, despite his injury, will start at SE. Franklin will be our #4 receiver despie his injury. Counts will be our #5 receiver.

Bieniemy will remain the backup LG.

With Kevin's suspension, Courtney Carlton moves up to #2 at SS. Harry will start of course.

Polls:

1. Wisconsin 7-0 (37-18 win over #19 Minnesota)
2. Oklahoma 6-0 (Bye)
3. Miami 6-2 (44-28 win over #15 BC)
4. Ohio State 6-1 (27-13 loss to #10 Iowa drops them 2 spots)
5. Florida 5-1 (Bye)
6. USC 6-1 (we drop from #5 despite crushing Cal as Miami jumped from #6.)
7. Clemson 6-1 (51-7 loss to Georgia Tech but they move up 2 spots?)
8. Florida State 5-2 (50-0 win at Duke moves them up 3 spots)
9. Penn State 6-2 (34-31 loss to #12 Michigan drops them a spot)
10. Iowa 5-2 (27-13 win over Ohio State moves them up 7 spots.)

UAB Update:

After 2 tough losses, UAB beat Tulsa, Houston, and Tulane. Their current record is 3-3 (3-1 in conference.) Looks like Josh is doing well for himself so far. Even though he told people he was running an option offense, they have been throwing the ball with great success. Their offense is 70th in the nation and their defense is 66th.

Their QB has over 1200 yards passing with 12 TD's and 3 INT's.

So true. So true.

It's even worse with him tantalizing me with my most explosive first 12 minutes ever.

Do you find recruiting easier with a top rated team?

I don't have any baseline for comparison. I haven't tried any other team besides USC.

With USC, if we aren't stacked at a position, I think it is suitably easy to get a good player. However, I've lost out on some very good players as well, even with need. I'm happy with the difficulty level of recruiting so far.

You ever get the feeling that the rest of the team probably have a side bet going on when Collins will be hurt?

I was really hoping that Collins would have stayed healthy enough to have started. That way Sanders could have won the Heisman without starting games.

JB, I have played with a USC team with prestige in the 80s and a UCLA team with prestige in the 60s. The number of Top 100 guys interested is definitely higher with USC. I also feel like I can pitch more options with a higher rated team - prestige, chance to win - than with a lower rated recruit. I like to make my pitch early in the process, rather than waiting around too long for the scout information to tell me what to do. That approach makes it harder to identify when "playing time" is going to be "very important".

Overall, I definitely think recruiting is easier with a stud team. But I think the falloff between a USC and a UCLA is not all that great. Now a USC and a Troy? A world of difference as the best players won't even consider teams with low prestige.

I'm still waiting for someone to explain to me how transfers works, as I haven't been able to sign guys with USC, UCLA, or early in my playing days with Illinois or Virginia. The last three programs all look like they would be capable of signing guys based on results from other schools. And I've lost recruits to transfer with all four of those schools ...

Sorry for thread-jack, just thought this was an interesting topic.

No problem, I never mind these type of tangential posts in any of my dynasty threads. I think it is an interesting topic as well. I suspect transfers will be tweaked in the next patch.

Edit: Right after I posted this, I went to the general forum. I see 1.04 is released and it does address transfers for user teams (along with many other things.)

That is just cruel.

Edit to add:

Imagine how outrageous Randy's numbers would be this season if he and my WR's could stay healthy.

Had some personal stuff preventing me from playing much the last few days, but more updates are coming soon (i.e. later tonight.) Alas, he will graduate this year though. I wonder if a new glass man will take his place

Preview:

Today we travel to play Oregon in what should be a very easy win. I hope we don't fall into a trap again. We play 1-5 Oregon. Their offense is 85th and their defense is 115th. They don't have any true stars to speak of.

Our offense is 1st and our defense is 24th. We are 20 point favorites on the road.

Their WR has 33 catches for 534 yards and 2 TD's and he vs our secondary which is 30th against the pass is listed as a key matchup.

Gameplanning:

Our OC will be looking to air it out again.

Our DC is looking for a balanced approach to stuff their QB who has more picks than TD's on the year.

They have over 44,000 fans here today. It's 70 and cloudy.

They fumble the kickoff after a vicious hit by Seau and Counts recovers it!

We start on their 12.

A falst start puts us on the 17.

Sanders connects with Howard for 12.

Sanders hits Howard for 5 and a TD on the quick hook! 7-0.

A few quick passes gets them across midfield.

On 3rd and 8, their QB hits Carl St. Pierre, a freshman receiver, for a slant and he breaks a tackle and cuts back to the sideline. He runs it up the sideline for a 39 yard TD! 7-7.

We start on our 26.

Sanders hits Jones for 31 on a nice double move.

Maston with a nice run for 17.

Sanders with a checkdown for 2 yards to Kelley.

Maston is stuffed for a loss.

On 3rd and 10, Sanders hits Kelley for 14, but an ineligible receiver downfield on our LG causes a 5 yard penalty.

Kelley is crushed on a cross and drops a pass for our first incompletion on 1st and 10.

Sanders overthrows Kelley on 2nd down.

Sanders throws a screen for 14 to Malcolm on 3rd down.

They stuff us on 1st and goal from the 1.

Sanders hits Malcolm for a 2 yard screen TD. 14-7 with 7 minutes left in the 1st. We need to play much better defense this drive.

8 yard pass to WR Victor Stamper on 1st down to get them across midfield.

Trevor Malone with a sack to force 3rd down.

Trevor Malone sacks him on 3rd down, but a defensive holding call gives them a 1st.

We finally stop them outside the 10. They kick a 30 yard FG. 14-10 lead for us.

We start on our 20 and drive 50 yards before Sanders overthrows the ball on 3rd and 4. We connect on a 49 yard FG but lose OT Randy Williams to a hand injury on the play. 17-10 as the 1st is winding down.

End of 1: 17-10 lead for USC.

They start on their 28.

Sanders hits Kelley for 10 on the out.

Pass interference gets us another 6.

They sack us on the next 3rd down and we end up punting from around midfield. They start on their 20.

Sanders is back and hits Jones for 26 yards with 45 seconds left in the half.

Sanders is sacked on 3rd and 4th down and we turn it over on downs as the half is ending. They have 4 seconds to heave it, but it is incomplete.

Pros: We won.

Week 10:

Injury Report:

QB Randy Collins is out.

WR Lennox Franklin is doubtful due to a finger dislocation.

WR Dick Sayers is out.

CB Gerry Brown is out.

WR Michael Howard is 100%

WR Kelley is 100%

OG Eric Bieniemy is 100%

Polls:

1. Wisconsin 8-0 (41-34 win over Michigan State)
2. Oklahoma 7-0 (56-3 win over Baylor)
3. Miami 7-2 (17-16 win at #19 VT)
4. Ohio State 6-1 (Bye)
5. Clemson 7-1 (38-35 win at #16 BC)
6. Florida 6-1 (34-31 win over Georgia)
7. USC 7-1
8. Florida State 6-2 (45-7 win over Maryland)
9. Penn State 6-2 (Bye)
10. Iowa 6-2 (19-16 win over Indiana)

Depth Chart Issues:

Now that Kelley is 100%, he moves back into the starting SE role and Michael Howard moves back to the #3 receiver slot.

No other changes.

Today we host Stanford. Stanford is 4-4. Their offense is 64th in the nation. Their defense is 103rd. Our offense is 1st and our defense is 29th.

Their QB Marcus Robinson is very talented and has over 2000 yards passing with 10 TD's and 4 INT's. However, our offense and defense have much more talent according to our scouts.

The key matchup is their HB Robert Dudley who has been injured quite a bit but is talented versus our front 7 which is allowing 124 rushing yards per game for 24th in the nation.

We are 23 point favorites at home.

Gameplanning:

No changes from last week offensively, but defensively we are focusing on stopping their QB with a combination of blitzes and nickel defenses.

Beautiful 77 degree day. Sold out stadium.

Kelley with a very good kickoff return to start on our 45.

Sanders throws a pick to MLB Chris Bullocks on his first pass.

They return it to our 45.

We stop them inside the 15, but a penalty on the FG gives them another 1st down. They take the points off the board and accept the penalty.

2 plays later, they throw a 13 yard TD pass to their FB. 7-0. 4:20 minute 10 play 43 yard drive.

We start on our 21.

Sanders with a few quick passes to get us to midfield.

A delay of game pushes us back into our territory and a sack for a loss of 4 forces us into 3rd and 19. They stop us well short of the 1st.

A punt starts them on their 13.

15 yard run on the option gets them going.

11 yard run by Dudley on the option.

We stuff them for a 2 yard loss the next running play.

We stop them the next 2 plays and foce them to punt from their 45. A long punt bounces into the endzone.

Sanders throws to Jones for 26.

Sanders passes to Franklin on a quick out for 4.

2 incomplete passes forces a punt from midfield.

We exchange failed drives and get it back on our 43.

2 quick passes drive us inside the 5.

Sanders hits Kelley on a 2 yard out. 7-7. 3 play 57 yard drive all via the pass.

End of 1: 7-7 tie.

We stop them after only a 13 yard drive. Betters with a few great moves and he finds a seam for a 77 yard punt return for a TD!!! 14-7.

We force a quick 3 and out.

We drive to the 20, but are then stopped. We settle for a 37 yard FG. 17-7 we lead.

We force a 3 and out and get the ball back.

2 penalties foces us into 1st and 25.

Malcolm runs it for 10.

Incomplete pass on 2nd and 15.

Franklin drops it on 3rd and 15.

We end up going 3 and out. A great punt pins them down on their 3.

We force a fumble on the deep out, but they recover it.

We stop them at their 30 and force a punt.

They sack Sanders on 3rd down and force a 3 and out by us. Our offense has been struggling the last 2 weeks..

We exchange a few more failed drives.

Halftime: 17-7 lead for us. Sanders stats: 14 of 21 for 172 yards and 1 TD 1 INT.

They get the ball to start the half, but we stop them short of midfield and force a punt.

Offensive pass interference kills our drive before it gets started. We end up going 3 and out.

We exchange failed drives before we finally get a good drive going.

However, a holding call negates a 19 yard TD pass and forces us into 3rd and 17 on the 29.

However, after another play, Sanders hits Jones on a short pass, and Jones jukes two guys, hurdles a last defender and finishes the 34 yard TD pass! 24-7 on a great play by Jones.

A dumpoff pass to their HB Irving Ashworth ends up as a 42 yard gain.

However, we stop them the next few plays and they settle for a 46 yard FG. 24-10 we lead.

Betters returns it to our 45, but Artose Morgan had a penalty on the play, and we start in our 35.

Sanders comes out with perfect passing. The 6 play, 6 completion, 65 yard drive ends with a 26 yard TD pass to Howard. Sanders was phenomenal on that drive. 31-10 with 3 minutes left in the 3rd.

We stop them after another short drive. Our defense is finally playing back up to their potential.

We start on our 15 as the 3rd is just about over.

A 9 yard run and a 17 yard pass to Malcolm end the 3rd.

End of 3: USC 31 - Stanford 10.

Malcolm hurts his Elbow two plays later and has to leave the game. This is a big loss as Donckers isn't really a star quality starting HB.

We end a 11 play 85 yard drive with a 3 yard TD run off tackle by Donckers. 38-10 with 11 minutes to go in the game.

They hit us on a big pass to their FB. A long TD pass to their WR is negated by a holding call against them.

2 plays later we force a punt.

Betters with a 25 yard return on the punt brings it out to our 41.

We drive inside their 30, but Sanders overthrows on 3rd and 6. We kick the 41 yard FG to make it 41-10 with 6 minutes left.

They put together a nice drive which ends in a FG to make it 41-13.

They recover the onside.

We force a fumble of a short pass and Joshua Lewis recovers it to get us back the ball.

We run the ball 3 times in a row and then pass on 4th and 1 to for 9 yards to make the 1st down.

We run the ball down the field before getting stopped on 3rd and 4. We kick the FG to make it 44-13 with just under 30 seconds left.

Game over. 44-13 win for us.

Pros: Very good passing, particularly in the 2nd half. Very good defense against a solid QB.

Cons: Malcolm was hurt. Sanders threw a bad pick early.

Randy is still out with his back injury.

RB Malcolm Maston strained a ligament in his elbow and is questionable this week.

FB Tony Seau bruised his ribs and is probable.

WR Dick Sayers is out with his spinal injury.

WR Lennox Franklin is questionable with a dislocated finger.

CB Gerry Brown is doubtful with a spinal injury.

Depth Chart Issues:

I'm going to play Malcom and Tony despite their injuries. Therefore, there are no changes to the depth chart.

Notable Stats:

Sedrick Sanders is 1st in the nation among regular starters with a 186.7 QB Rtg.

Despite missing significant playing time (when Randy was healthy), Sanders is 4th in the nation with 2767 yards on the year. He is tied with Notre Dame's QB with 29 TD's to lead the nation. His 3 interceptions allowed leads the nation among regular starters. His 73.2% completion percentage leads the nation among regular starters.

Jerry Jones leads the nation with 64 pass receptions. He also leads the nation with 1232 yards. He also leads the nation with 14 TD's.

Billy Kelley is 4th in the nation with 62 receptions. He is 15th in the nation with 811 yards. He is 18th with 6 passing TD's.

Senior OT Mike Walker is 5th in the nation with 23 pancakes. He has only allowed 2 sacks on the year.

Brad Adams is 11th in the nation with 9 stuffs.

Joshua Lewis is 10th in the nation with 6 FF.

Sophomore CB Terry Betters is 2nd in the nation with 7 interceptions.

Polls:

1 Wisconsin 9-0 (26-20 win over #17 Purdue)
2. Oklahoma 8-0 (59-13 win over Texas A&M)
3. Ohio State 7-1 (34-9 win over Illinois)
4. Miami 7-2 (Bye)
5. Florida State (38-13 win over #9 Clemson)
6. Florida 7-1 (27-17 win over Kentucky)
7. USC 8-1
8. Iowa 7-2 (38-3 win over Temple)
9. Clemson 7-2 (38-13 loss to #5 FSU)
10. Ole Miss 7-2 (40-31 win over ND)

Today we play Washington. They are 5-4, but they have been unlucky. They have a very good offense that is 29th in the nation. The balanced offense is led by senior star HB Jim Tyler. Jim has over 1300 yards rushing on the year and 14 rushing TD's.

Their defense is 17th in the nation. They have an outstanding linebacking crop led by MLB Gil Dyer. Gil has 81 tackels, 5 sacks, 7 stuffs, and 1 interception on the year.

In comparision our offense is 1st ad our defense is 29th.

Talent wise, our offense is considerably better according to my scouts. Our defense is slightly better.

The key matchup according to my scouts is how Malcolm does against their front 7 which is 3rd in the nation against the run.

We are 13 point favorites at home.

Gameplanning:

Offensively, we are going do the same thing we have been doing.

Defensively, we are going to cheat up with the SS at times, but mostly play a balanced defense.

We have a sell out today. It is sunny and 68 in LA.

They have a very short kickoff which we return 27 yards to the 49.

Sanders is 5 of 5 on the opening drive ending with a 11 yard TD pass to Kelley. 7-0.

Washington puts together a balanced drive that eats up 5 minutes but ends with a 9 yard TD pass to Johnson. 7-7.

We respond with a 80 yard drive all through the air in which Sanders connected on 5 of 7 passes for 80 yards ennding with a TD pass to Kelley. 14-7.

We each exchange a failed drive.

End of 1: 14-7 lead for us.

They drive down the field, but we stop them in FG range and they settle for 3. 14-10 we lead.

Penalties kill our next drive and we punt. Their QB drives them into our 5, but we stop them after he hurts his ankle. They settle for a very short FG. 14-13 we lead.

We start on our 20.

Penalties hurt us at midfield, and we end up punting from our own 45.

We punt to their 12.

We stop them after a short drive and force a punt.

Sanders drives us down the field and connects on another TD pass to Kelley! That is their 3rd each of the day. 21-13 with 4 minutes left.

They drive mostly on the ground, before throwing a screen for a 9 yard TD. 21-20 after the XP. 50 seconds left.

A good kick return starts us on our 39. First play Sanders pumpfakes on the out, throws the up to Kelley. 61 yard TD!!!! 28-20!

Halftime: 28-20 lead for us. Sanders stats: 17 of 21 for 274 yards 4 TD's 0 INT's.

They start on their own 33.

They put together a 6 1/2 munute drive ends in a TD pass from their 3rd QB. We stop the 2 point conversion. 28-26.

Sanders with 4 quick passes drives us 72 yards and inside the 10.

We run it on 1st and 2nd with Donckers. Donckers is stuffed on 3rd and goal from the 1. We settle for a 23 yard FG. 31-26.

We force them backwards on their drive and force a punt from their 4. A good punt return starts us on their 23.

They sack us on 3rd and 8 and force a 42 yard FG. 34-26 as the 3rd ends.

End of 3: USC 34 - Washington 26.

They start on their 25.

We force a 3 and out and get the ball on our 40.

2 incomplete passes, but Donckers converts a 3rd and 10 with a suprisingly good run.

Donckers is stuffed the next 2 runs.

They start on their 7.

Dwone Secules intercepts the ball when the WR bobbles it! He returns it 15 yards for a TD! 41-26.

They put together a 8 play 73 yard drive which ends in a short TD pass by their QB. 41-34 after a good 2 pt conversion.

We go 3 and out and end up punting with 6 minutes left.

They start on their 43.

A good pass to their TE for 24 converts a 3rd and long and drives acorss midfield.

Brad Adams comes up with a sack on the next play.

We force them into 3rd and 11. A good tackle by Wayne Cole forces 4th and 5. They settle for a 37 yard FG. 41-37 with 2:30 to go.

They kick it long and we start on our 12.

Malcolm had been hurt earlier, and Donckers runs it the first two plays.

Donckers runs for 10 on 3rd and 4!

Donckers runs for 1.

Donckers runs for 15 after stiffarming their MLB!

We run out the clock.

Game over. 41-37 win

Pros: Very good passing offense. Donckers ran well at the end.

Cons: The defense looked bad today. Malcolm was hurt again.

Preview: Today we host #16 VT in a critical game. Their offense is 4th in the nation and is led by junior QB Sammy Griffin. Sammy is a big strong QB with a very good arm who has passed for over 2700 yards with 21 TD's and 9 INT's.

Their HB, Jay Wilson has 859 yards on the year and he provides some balance for the offense. Their defense is 22nd in the nation and is led by star junior cornerback Tim White who has 5 picks on the year and is a threat to pick one and take it the distance on any play.

Our scouts believe their defense has just as much talent as ours does. They believe our offense has significantly more talent.

We are 14 point favorites at home.

Gameplanning:

We will run our same offense. Defensively, we will run plenty of nickelback formations and blitz quite a bit.

Pros: Excellent game by Sanders. Excellent game by the defense against a very good QB. Perhaps, our best defensive effort all year.

Cons: Not really any.

Depth Chart Moves:

As you can see, Randy is 100% again. However, Sedrick is now a Heisman candidate who just had a mindblowing game last week. Sedrick will continue to start.

Randy will be our #2 QB now.

OT Mike Walker is recovering very fast from his hamstring injury and he will be our backup LT. Alexander will shift to LT and Hayes will start at RT.

Lennox will remain the #4 receiver despite being 100% now.

Basically, everyone plays except for our suspended guys and our WR Dick Sayers and our CB Gerry Brown who both had spinal injuries.

Media Poll:

1. Ohio State 9-1 (Bye)
2. Wisconsin 10-1 (Bye)
3. Oklahoma 9-1 (Bye)
4. USC 10-1 (Bye)
5. Florida 9-1 (Bye)
6. Florida State 8-2 (Bye)
7. Clemson 9-2 (Bye)
8. Penn State 8-3 (Bye)
9. Michigan 6-4 (Bye)
10. Virginia Tech 8-3 (45-10 win against Pitt)

Preview:

Today we travel to play 6-4 UCLA. Their offense is 27th and their defense is 26th. Our offense is 1st and our defense is 37th. This might be the year we finally fire our DC unless he coaxes 2 more great defensive efforts the next 2 weeks.

UCLA's offense is balanced and their offense has over 2300 yards from their QB Hall and 1000 yards for their HB Brown. Their defense is led by cornerback Jerry Long who has 5 picks on the year.

The key matchup is Jerry Jones vs their secondary which is 34th in the nation against the pass.

Jerry Long vs Jerry Jones should be a great matchup.

We are 21 point favorites on the road.

Our scouts believe our team has MUCH more talent on offense. We have equal talent on defense. We have slightly better special teams.

Gameplanning:

Offensively, we will be doing nothing different. Defensively, we will be playing a balanced defense with plenty of 4-3 plays.

They do not have a sellout here at the Rose Bowl. We only have 85,000 plus fans here today.

It's sunny and clear with temps around 74 at kickoff.

They start on their 33.

Brad Adams sacks their QB on the 1st play.

Big run by their HB for 35 yards on the next play.

Gonzalez with a 4 yard run on the next play.

Harry Bartrum with a face mask penalty gets them inside our 20.

Another facemask penalty, this time on Trevor Malone gets them another 1st down.

1st and 10 on our 14: Trevor Malone stuffs the HB for a loss of 1.

2nd and 11: 3 yard run up the middle.

3rd and 8: Screen for 11 yards to their 2nd string HB.

1st and goal on the 1: PA pass is incoplete.

They run it on 2nd down as 3rd string HB Vince Clark scores. 7-0 UCLA leads.

Betters catches it on the 8, runs down the left sideline, cuts back towards the middle, jukes the last man, and scores on a 92 yard kickoff return! 7-7.

A good kickoff return starts them on their 41.

Holding call on 1st down against UCLA.

Brad Adams stuffs the HB on 1st and 20 for no gain.

McCadam overthrows his receiver on 2nd down.

Screen to the HB for a gain of 3.

Betters returns the punt 25 yards to their 40.

No one is open and sanders scrambles for no real gain.

Malcom runs for 13 and a facemask adds 5.

Sanders throws to Jones on the quick slant for 8.

A holding call gets us 10 and an automatic first down.

1st and goal on the 7: Sanders to Howard on the quick hook for a TD! 14-7.

We force a 3 and out.

Malcom with a run for 13.

Sanders with pass for 23 gets us inside the 10.

Sanders throws to Kelley for 3.

We gets stopped after 2.

On 3rd and goal from the 3, Malcolm is stopped for no gain.

We miss the 20 yard FG wide right!

Gonzalez with a few good runs to get them a first down.

McCadam throws for 8 to convert a 3rd and 6 a bit later.

Brad Adams nails the WR who ran quick slant, and forces a fumble which he recovers!

End of 1: 14-7 we lead.

Sanders overthrows on 3rd and 4 and we go 3 and out. We attempt a fake punt on 4th, but do not make it.

We exchange several defensive oriented drives which end in punts.

Finally we drive into FG range and make it 17-7.

On their next drive, Harry Bartrum intercepts the deep pass and returns it to their 40. We get into FG range, but they stop us. We make the long FG and make it 20-7.

3 plays later, Jeremiah Bratton intercepts a pass into the flat towards their HB. He returns it 49 yards for a TD!! 27-7 with 90 seconds left in the half.

Harry Bartrum hurts his elbow on the first play of this drive.

They hit their WR Keith Wong for a 50 yard pass, but we stop them the next few plays. They kick a 45 yard FG to make it 27-10.

Halftime: 27-10 we lead. Sanders stats: 10 of 16 for 111 yards 1 TD 0 INT. Randy's stats: 2 of 2 for 9 yards.

We start on our 20.

Sanders with 3 quick passes drives us to their 40.

A 1 yard run is followed by a play action bomb to Lennox Franklin for a 38 yard TD! 34-10.

We stop them on their next drive, before putting together our own drive which ends with a short TD run by Donckers. 41-10.

We stop them on their next drive before midfield.

Sanders quickly drives us inside the 20, but they stop us short on 3rd and 7. We kick the 30 yard FG. 44-10.

End of 3: USC 44 - UCLA 10.

They put togehter a 50 yard drive to get a FG to make it 44-13. Good defense today overall.

Malcom with some great runs on this drive is helping us move the ball.

However, Sanders overthrows it on a 2nd and 10 on a deep route. On 3rd and 10, we throw another incomplete and end up punting from their 43. We pin them inside the 5.

We force a 3 and out.

We start on our 40.

Quick pass from Sanders to Eric Williams, the safety lights him up and causes a fumble. UCLA recovers.

They throw a deep bomb for 44 to get inside our 5.

They hit TE Mike Zorn for a TD on 3rd down. 44-20 with 6 minutes left in the game.

They stop us and put together another nice drive for a TD. However, time is almost out. They go for 2. We stop it. 44-26.

They go for an onside which we recover. We run out the clock.

Game over. 44-26.

Pros: Very good offense, very good defense for 3 quarters.

Cons: The defense got lazy/tired in the 4th.
