War Lords on the MLB Radar

SP Ronald Abbott - The now 17 year old was a solid starter for us in his first season and will be counted on now to be even better. He projects as a potential first rounder as he has great movement on his pitches but needs work on his stuff and control.

SP Jesus Martinez - The 19 year old Cuban is coming off of a season where he won the Roger Clemens Pitcher of the Year Award. He needs to be even better now to make up for our talent deficiency.

C Tim Reid - Reid is now 19 and going into what will probably be his final year in town. He has been a masher, and with 84 RBI last year he won the Barry Bonds MVP Award. He projects to be a top pick in the upcoming draft.

3B Robert Campbell - Campbell has big power potential but is very raw. He might be draft eligible, I am not 100% sure yet. Most likely he is a one and done though and should be a first rounder.

CF Jim Walter - Walter is a solid all around player who is most likely a one and done. He plays good D, is fast and projects to be an all around solid player. Most likely a top 40 pick.

RF Mike Shaffer - Shaffer has yet to really develop his skills but his potential is otherworldly. If he comes out this year he will go in the first on potential alone but faces a long haul to the Show.

So where we had 7 guys go in the top 50 in this past draft, we might get 3-4 if we're lucky this year. It's a lot of talent but hardly any depth which will cause us to rely heavily on these guys. As they go, we go, and even then it might not be enough.

War Lords: Quarter Season Report

Well color me shocked. Through the first 15 games we go an astounding 13-2 to give us a 3 game lead in the East. What's more insane is the production our two rookies Robert Campbell and Jim Walter are giving us.

Robert Campbell is on a pace that hasn't been seen on this level in a long time. Through 15 games he has an amazing 16 HR! Add in 32 RBI and you have what you might think is your leader for MVP.

Then you see Jim Walter who has an absurd .446/.563/1.089 line with 10 HR and 21 RBI. These guys are almost out homering full teams. Mike Shaffer is finally getting it, with a .371/.420/.790 line with 6 HR and 21 RBI while Tim Reid is his usual great self at .328/.388/.607 with 5 HR and 14 RBI.

Meanwhile Martinez is 3-0 with a 4.30 ERA and Abbott is 3-0 with a 2.08 ERA.

I want to say we can keep this up but I cannot see how it is possible. We'll enjoy the ride though.

War Lords: Midyear Report

We come back to earth in a big way, going 7-9 to fall to 19-11 on the year. We're still in first, but only 1 game up on both Lewisburg and Unitah.

Tim Reid has fallen off, down to .267 which has hurt the offense but we're still doing well. Campbell is at .313 with 21 HR and 52 RBI. Walter is at .387 with 14 HR and 35 RBI and Mike Shaffer is hitting a whopping .410 with 13 HR and 43 RBI.

Meanwhile Martinez is 4-2 with a 4.17 ERA, Abbott is 4-2 with a 2.49 ERA and Jose Moran, our ex closer, now starter, is 4-0 with a 2.66 ERA.

We will most likely lose out on 1st place over the next 15 games but I will say my expectations have been exceeded thus far.

War Lords: 3/4 Report

We are at 26-19, 3 games behind Unitah with 15 games left. We're most likely out of the race but again, all things considered this has been a success.

Shaffer currently leads the league with a .381 average. Campbell leads with 26 HR and is in 3rd with 71 RBI.

Abbott is at 5-2 with a 2.56 ERA while Martinez is 5-3 with a 4.14 ERA.

War Lords Season Review

We finish 34-26, 4 games back of Lewisburg who got hot late to jump ahead of Unitah. This was a huge success for us when it looked bleak to start the year, though with the draft looming we could lose a lot of talent and really be bad next year.

Robert Campbell hit 36 HR and had 96 RBI. His 36 HR were 8 off the season record of 44 set way back in 1908.

Mike Shaffer was right behind with 32 HR and 96 RBI. He also hit an astounding .372.

Jim Walter had a .335 average with 20 HR and 55 RBI.

Tim Reid ended up out for a week but finished decent at .296 with 14 HR and 43 RBI.

Jesus Martinez finished up 6-6 with a 3.82 ERA.

Ronald Abbott was great going 8-2 with a 2.26 ERA.

Jose Moran slumped late and went 7-4 with a 4.78 ERA.

Hybla Vally War Lords: Draft Edition

3B Robert Campbell - Coming off his 36 HR season Campbell was repaid by being selected 28th overall in the 1st round by the Houston Astros. He signed a minor league deal with the club which included a $1.18 million bonus.

SP Jesus Martinez - Martinez, a 20 game career winner for the War Lords, was selected 19th overall in the 1st round by the Cincinnati Reds. He signed a minor league deal with a $1.5 million bonus.

C Tim Reid - One of the all time great War Lords, Reid was taken 24th overall by the Los Angeles Angels. He signed a minor league deal with the team with a $1.95 million bonus. He was subsequently traded off to Arizona in exchange for SP Christian Knight.

CF Jim Walter - Walter was taken 20th overall in the 1st round by the San Fransisco Giants but failed to sign with the club. He will instead college at Norfolk.

SP Carlos Pagan - Pagan at 16 will have to come in from the get and be a top end starter. Currently he is just (2/8/2) but has a potential of (6/13/10). Not much of a future I would assume but he could be decent enough.

CF Mario Campos - Campos is a burner who already plays excellent D. At 16 he has plenty of time to grow, and if he does, he could turn into quite a star. Right now he is just (1/2/1/1/1) but has a future potential of (13/19/11/8/12).

That's it. We added about 6 other guys and none of them are good. This team is not going to be good at all. All the sandbagging I have done in the past about us going to suck and this year it is 100% certain.

2018 War Lords to Know

SP Ronald Abbott - Abbott was sensational last year as he went 8-2 with a 2.26 ERA and a 1.14 WHIP. He is the ace of the staff as he is easily our best pitcher.

SP Carlos Pagan - Pagan at 16 will have to come in from the get and be a top end starter. Currently he is just (2/8/2) but has a potential of (6/13/10). Not much of a future I would assume but he could be decent enough.

RF Mike Shaffer - Shaffer is coming off a season in which he was named the East League Barry Bonds MVP. In his 4th year with the team it is expected this will be his best year and that says a lot when last year he had a .372/.443/.854 line with 32 HR and 96 RBI. He will need at least that for us to be a .500 team.

War Lords Season Review

Record: 31-29

Key Players

RF Mike Shaffer - Shaffer did everything he could for the club in his final year, having a .310/.341/.740 line with 30 HR and 86 RBI.

CF Mario Campos - Campos Freshman year was solid enough, putting up a .299/.361/.483 line. He also added 7 HR and 48 RBI.

3B Manuel Rivera - Manuel Rivera was solid in his first year on the club hosting a .277/.352/.472 line with 12 HR and 54 RBI. He'll most likely be back next season.

SP Ronald Abbott - Abbott dealt with some injury problems which lead him to a 3-6 record with a 3.96 ERA and a high 1.68 WHIP. A disappointing final year (most likely) for the club.

SP Carlos Pagan0 - The youngster Pagan was sensational, posting a 6-4 record with a 2.48 ERA and a 1.21 WHIP. He will most likely take over as our ace next season assuming Abbott leaves.

RF Mike Shaffer - Our one high draft pick this year (Abbott is staying put) happened to be the #1 pick in the entire draft, as he was selected by the Washington Nationals. He subsequently signed a minor league deal with a $3.04 million signing bonus.

RF Vic Meyers - Meyers had spent the last years at Mt. Ayr College where he was doing quite a bit of damage. He was taken 22nd overall in the 1st round by the San Francisco Giants where he signed a minor league deal with a $1.39 million bonus.

SP Stanley Paul - Paul is 19 and has a ways to go to develop but he is a flat out stud. He currently is at (4/11/3) with a potential of (14/17/18). Automatically our best pitcher.

SS Dieter Ekkel - Ekkel is a decent SS and at 17 he has some potential to be a very solid player. He currently is at (3/3/3/2/3) with a potential of (10/7/10/9/10).

LF Ronald Tillman - Tillman is a great hitter who at 17 should get two years in with the team. Presently he is at (3/5/3/3/3) with a potential of (14/14/16/11/11). Without question Tillman is a future 1st round pick.

Well clearly you guys are doing something right. Let's see if they tear up the majors in a few years...
