Always fun when stores from my town pop up on here. The 1993 game was the first one I ever attended. I live in Easton but went to school in Phillipsburg.

My brother went to Phillipsburg HS for two years before moving to Bethlehem and graduating there. He was amused by the story, too. Kudos to Gatorade for this out of the box marketing idea.

Phillipsburg defeates Easton 27-12 in Gatorade Replay game - lehighvalleylive.com
Phillipsburg defeates Easton 27-12 in Gatorade Replay game It was a team effort for the Phillipsburg Stateliners. One that involved several months of preparation and came more than 15 years after a 1993 game ended in a 7-7 tie. Express-Times Photo | SUE BEYERGame MVP Joe Luke finds a hole in the Easton defense. While 30 participated, it was the big three of Keith Kullman, Mike Lelko and Joe Luke that put Phillipsburg over the top in a 27-12 victory over Easton on a game played in 90-degree temperatures at Fisher Stadium on the campus of Lafayette College. "I think they had a couple more weapons than we did," said Easton defensive tackle Chris Shannon. "Speed kills and they were faster than us." Lelko put up huge receiving numbers in the first half before leaving with an injury. Luke amassed 236 all-purpose yards and Kullman finished with 302 passing yards and three touchdowns on the afternoon. Luke was named the game MVP and teammate Robert Wargo was named the game's outstanding defensive player. Easton center Eric Detweiler earned lineman of the game honors. "I know this whole experience means a lot to every single one of us," Kullman said. Brothers Eli and Peyton Manning were the 'Liners and Rovers, respectively, and were duly impressed with the quality of play and support of the community. "Those two teams are obviously well organized and well coached," Eli, quarterback of the N.Y. Giants, said. "You could see the emotions in their eyes, and they obviously worked extremely hard to get in shape. I'm real proud of both teams." Indianapolis quarterback Peyton Manning was shocked when he saw the crowd. "What an unbelievable crowd," Peyton said. "You can tell how important football is around here. These are the kind of towns you want to play in." Express-Times Photo | SUE BEYERPhillipsburg players try to cool off on the sidelines during the Gatorade Replay game. This was the first road test of this concept by Gatorade. While there were speed bumps and a learning curve along the way, the end product was highly successful and the "Mission G" staff made a great selection in choosing the Easton-Phillipsburg rivalry. "This is the matchup everyone knows about," said Jeff Kearney, Gatorade sports marketing manager. "(The Easton-P'burg game) has been on ESPN twice. We were well aware of what this game means to the community. That's why we chose this one." Based on the success of their first venture into this concept of a rivalry series, Gatorade is exploring other regions of the country and a variety of sports for the next event. "This game exceeded our expectations," Kearney said. "We're just trying to get a sense of how other fans from other areas are reacting to this, and we'll let them determine what direction we go in next." |

Damn, those two look old. I hope they're healthy enough to make it back for their 20 year HS reunion.
