You Know You're a Geek When...

...you invent video games in your sleep.

Seriously, I had a dream last night that I was playing a video game. It was a Theme Park-esque type game, and for the first part of the dream I was buying stores and rides (all of which I can vividly recall, which is strange because I forget 95% of my dreams as soon as I get out of bed), but there was a twist... after I'd built my park and was watching people walk around it and get on rides etc., aliens invaded! It then became what I guess could be described as a bit like Galcon, with ships attacking my buildings, and when they reduced the building's HP to zero, they owned that building, so I had to build a spaceport inside my theme park to create a defense force to battle the aliens.

I can honestly say I've never had a dream quite like it and I actually think that it would make for a pretty strange yet awesome game!

Or maybe I just need to get out more.

Crazy stuff happens in dreams. I fell asleep watching Lost on DVD last week and had a dream Sawyer gave me a gun to use in case Locke or any of the guys from our IT department at work caused a problem.

I remember waking up in a cold sweat one night in the dorms because I dreamed that my Diablo 2 character had suddenly gone from regular to hardcore and then died (thus killing him permanently). The next day, I decided I might be playing too much so I should put it down a little bit.

Funny, I read the title and thought. . . "I am a geek, ANYTHING remotely geeky in this thread will describe me"

And yet it didn't. Disappointing.

I attended a gaming convention over Memorial day weekend, and my family came up for one day. The convention was Kubla Con, in case anyone cares. Anyway on to the geeky part.

This morning, I spied a twenty sided die on the kitchen table. I picked it up, curious why some of my gaming supplies were running around the house, and also not recognizing the die. At that point my daughter pipes in "That's my D-20". I was taken aback, as "D-20" isn't in most ten year old vocabularies. I must have gotten a pleased look on my face, because at that point my wife tells me "I knew you'd be proud".

So not only do I know I'm a geek, I'm happy to be raising them as well.
