I realize this info is probably buried somewhere in a thread but I'm to lazy. Anyone have a hockey sim to recommend?

Eastside Hockey Manager was the one most people played. OOTP picked up the baton after it was discontinued, and are working on Franchise Hockey Manager.

Franchise Hockey Manager appears to be positioned as the next OOTP since it's made by the same company.

I'm personally playing Strat-o-Matic Hockey which is a really fun game. I play it exactly like the board game, so you feel the skills of the players (or lack thereof) affected by the rolls of the dice. You know exactly how hard it is for your 3rd line RW to score so when he does it's a big deal. Same with defense, a good defender can take away a ton of opportunities, and a good playmaker can setup some clear chances for his linemates. It's not a career sim so that's a minus, but I enjoy being exposed to the engine, it seems to make every play mean more to me. I pretty much play every text based sports sim, and to me the Strat-o-Matic games have gotten me interested in playing out the individual games, vs. the more career oriented gameplay of the current sports sims. This is something that's developed in me over time, because as soon as Front Page Sports Football came out a long long time ago it's been all about the careers and not the games.

Probably should have been a bit clearer.

I would love a game that is basically a better version of the old free Eastside Hockey Manager.

and one that is out already.

The beta of FHM is out now, and is available if you pre-order. The game is scheduled for release on Sept. 3rd.

I am doing some database work on FHM. It is shaping up very well and is very similar to the OOTP games. As Cartman said, it is scheduled to release Sept 3 and updates are released during the Beta about every week or 2.

I've really enjoyed FHM so far. It's still a bit rough - but coming along very nicely.

I still play it, using the CSD makes it more fun with updated rosters.

If you would at all be interested in a non-career based game, ActionPC Hockey is a great season replay hockey game. Focuses on coaching/gameplay and does a really good job in providing a good hockey experience. Currently the base game is on sale for $35, with a lot of the seasons up to 50% off right now.

Action! PC Hockey
