Make Mine Rare Returns - (congrats korme)

Time for the return of Make Mine Rare. The object here is the opposite of IWS. In this game you want the answers that were picked the least. There is a penalty for incorrect answers in this game, if not everyone would pick off the wall answers in order to get the lowest score.

If you pick an incorrect answer you will be given the max score for that question.

Example: If the question is to name a letter of the alphabet and you answer 9 you will be given a score equal to the number of participants for that question. You will have also reveals that you are probably a Cowboys fan with that level of comprehension.

Now for the good part. I was feeling very giving over the weekend and picked up a copy of FM 13 on Steam (it was a great price). That will be the prize for the winner. If more than one person is tied for the lead the winner will be chosen randomly from that group.

If you don't want the game, or already have it, you may pass on the prize and it will go to the next person in line (on down the line until someone that wants it gets it).

Answers will be accepted up until Midnight on Saturday EST. Technically Sunday morning. 12:00 entries will be accepted, 12:01 will not (WW flashbacks there).

Reserving the next post for the questions which I will post tonight.

I wouldn't start referring to Spring 2013 as 'past Spring' until summer started (or at least unofficially started (June 1st). Maybe a future Make Mine Rare question should be "in what year was 'past Spring'?"

especially if you asked after June 22, 2013 (year for example). People in the Northern Hemisphere would answer 2013 whilst Southern Hemisphere would answer 2012.

Ditto, heading away next week for a vacation in some countries winter. Although it will be warmer and dryer than our current (almost) Summer, go figure.

1) Name a team that has won the Stanley Cup at least one time since January 1, 2000 (real team, real winner, not in your game of NHL).

The Ducks were looking like the answer to have until two relatively late entries named them. Same for Lightning but with them it was three straight that picked them.

2 - Detroit Red Wings
2 - Pittsburgh Penguins
2 - Chicago Blackhawks
3 - Anaheim Ducks
3 - Colorado Avalanche
4 - Carolina Hurricanes
4 - New Jersey Devils
4 - Tampa Bay Lightning
5 - Boston Bruins

2) Name a team that has won the World Series at least one time since January 1, 2000 (real team, real winner, not in your game of MLB).

No love for the Angels. The White Sox had a run near the end (5 of the final 12 entries). Early it looked like the Phillies and Red Sox would be the popular picks.

1 - Anaheim Angels
2 - New York Yankees
2 - San Francisco Giants
2 - Arizona Diamondbacks
3 - Florida Marlins
4 - St. Louis Cardinals
4 - Philadelphia Phillies
5 - Boston Red Sox
6 - Chicago White Sox

3) Name a team that has won the Super Bowl at least one time since January 1, 2000 (real team, real winner, not in your game of Madden).

It seems that going with the most recent was the way to go here. Everyone tried to avoid that I guess. Two early Patriots entries but everyone else seemed scared off by them, surprising with the number so Red Sox and Bruins entries. The Buccaneers seemed to be many people trying to outsmart the rest.

1 - Baltimore Ravens
1 - Pittsburgh Steelers
2 - New England Patriots
2 - St. Louis Rams
3 - New York Giants
3 - Green Bay Packers
4 - New Orleans Saints
6 - Tampa Bay Buccaneers
7 - Indianapolis Colts

4) Name a color in the rainbow, according to ROYGBIV.

I used red text as a test, to see if it would affect the entries. It seemed to keep people away from Red, I guess.

2 - Violet
3 - Blue
3 - Red
4 - Green
5 - Indigo
6 - Yellow
6 - Orange

5) Name a TV show from the past spring prime time lineup on CBS.

Thought these next two would be make or break questions, with enough room for there to be single entries.

1 - Vegas
1 - Mike & Molly
1 - 60 Minutes
1 - Elementary
1 - Survivor
1 - NCIS: Los Angeles
1 - Undercover Boss
1 - Golden Boy
1 - Criminal Minds
1 - Person of Interest
1 - The Job
1 - The Good Wife
1 - The Big Bang Theory
2 - Hawaii 5-0
2 - How I met Your Mother
2 - Two and a Half Men
3 - Rules of Engagement
3 - Blue Bloods
4 - Two Broke Girls

6) Name a TV show from the past fall prime time lineup on ABC.

Had our first incorrect answer, wrong network.

1 - Private Practice
1 - Malibu Country
1 - Suborgatory
1 - Saturday Night Football
1 - Zero Hour
1 - Dancing with the Stars
1 - Don't Trust the B in Apartment 23
1 - Last Resort
1 - Castle
1 - Revenge
1 - Nashville
2 - Primetime
2 - Grey's Anatomy
3 - Modern Family
3 - 666 Park Avenue
4 - The Middle
*1 - Two and a Half Men

7) Name a player that started at quarterback at least one game in the NFC last season.

Another incorrect answer in this one. No love for Foles. Hoyer surprisingly had 3 people pick in in a stretch of 5 entries.

1 - Josh Freeman
1 - Cam Newton
1 - Mike Vick
1 - Colin Kaepernick
2 - Kirk Cousins
2 - Sam Bradford
2 - Ryan Lindley
2 - Russell Wilson
2 - Jason Campbell
2 - Tony Romo
2 - Christian Ponder
3 - Drew Brees
3 - Bryan Hoyer
4 - Alex Smith
*1 - Joe Webb

8) Name a player that started at quarterback at least one game in the AFC last season.

I'll allow the Sanchez answer, though we were looking for actual quarterbacks....

1 - Brandon Weeden
1 - Peyton Manning
1 - Phillip Rivers
1 - Chad Henne
1 - Greg McElroy
1 - Ben Roethlisberger
1 - Mark Sanchez
1 - Jake Locker
1 - Charlie Batch
2 - Brady Quinn
2 - Byron Leftwich
2 - Thad Lewis
3 - Terrell Pryor
3 - Carson Palmer
4 - Matt Hasselbeck
4 - Andy Dalton

9) Which will end the world: zombies, asteroids, global warming, nuclear holocaust, alien attack, return of the dinosaurs, pissed off diety, whack job terrorists or the Eagles winning a Super Bowl.

Surprised that no one said Eagles, I guess they thought that would be the popular answer because of me. We are least prepared for the terrorists and there are a lot of angry Gods out there and dinosaurs will return.

1 - Terrorists
2 - Zombies
2 - Aliens
2 - Global Warming
3 - Nuclear Holocaust
4 - Asteroids
7 - Pissed off Diety
8 - Dinosaurs Return

10) If you are on a deserted island which of the following would you want with you: FM 13, MLB: The Show, Madden 13, NHL 13, FIFA 13, NBA 2K13, Civ V, Minecraft, Sim City or Hearts of Iron.

NBA 2K13 was the killer here. If you picked that, forget your chances.

2 - Hearts of Iron
2 - Madden 13
2 - FIFA 13
2 - FM 13
3 - Sim City
4 - Civ V
5 - MLB: The Show
8 - NBA 2K13
*1 - No Answer

Way to twist the knife, EF.

My strategy was to pick popular answers, guessing people would steer away. I went Bruins (bad), Red Sox (bad), Pats (good), Phil Rivers and Mike Vick (I was the only one), then when EF gave choices: I simply picked the first choice, guessing people would try to grab something in the middle. Worked out favorably.

Sorry, that didn't show in my search on him, just showed that he started a game the previous season.

If I include that it will move you up a place in the standings. :-)
