Matt Flynn and Alex Smith being traded for the 33 and 34 pick respectively seems like deals that benefit the Jags/Chiefs and possibly could happen. The strength of the draft looks to be defense.

plus for pioli it makes a ton of sense because drafting a qb buys you a couple years as he 'develops'

Pioli was fired this morning.

You do realize that Pioli is no longer with the Chiefs, right?

I mean, Matt Hasselbeck has a $7.5MM cap number for 2013 if I'm looking at his contract right.

When you compare him against other FAs, he's a great option. And if you want him as a FA, you will be competing with around 10 teams who are looking for a QB, so on the open market, you may be laying out more than $8 million anyway. I'd view it as being better to acquire him with a mid round pick, pay him the money, and allow him the opportunity to play his way to a long term deal.

From my understanding, the Niners would be the ones paying him the $8M dollar roster bonus and any subsequent trade would have the team acquiring him only on the hook for the salary. I don't see why the Niners would pay $8M for a draft pick.

Now if a team wants to trade for him prior to this deadline to beat the bidding war you mentioned above, then yes I can see that happening.

Hard to be terribly precise, but the best thing I can think of is that the career-based comparison acts as if Roethlisberger is done playing (and perhaps judging by totals). The year-by-year comparisons, OTOH, chart a player's trajectory more thoroughly -- this is who Roethlisberger resembles after 1 season as a pro, 2 seasons, so on. Kelly (a HOFer himself) is #1 all the way, but two other HOFers (Warren Moon and one of Montana/Young -- sorry, not looking at the page) have crept their way up to Ben's top 4 comparable QBs after this much of his career.

doesn't year-by-year just show who they resembled in that one year and not cumulatively?

Now that KC has hired Andy Reid as their new HC, all the KC BBQ joints will need to stock up.

According to his contract details on rotoworld, it's not an $8 million roster bonus: he's due a $7.5 million salary in 2013 plus a $1 million roster bonus paid in March. And if that bonus is paid, the 2013 salary then becomes guaranteed. So I'm not sure why that entire salary would remain with the team.

Another guy that could be worth something is TJ Yates. He's made 5 starts with OK numbers. I'd imagine the Texans will try to cash him in now that Schaub is signed long term.

Judging by tonight so far, they might want to hold onto him a little longer.

It's looking like Chip's going to be the next coach of the Browns. What do you guys think they'll get for trading Weeden? What's the highest draft pick you think someone will give them for this stiff??

Btw- I can't stand the Kelly hire.

Something like a 4th maybe. He's 29 years old and had more INTs than TDs. I think the hire is interesting, but I'm not sure it works.

I love seeing Kelly go to the Browns. I can't stand him and I was afraid my Eagles would hire him.

I think Chip Kelly will be in way over his head. He's not going to be able to outspend the other teams with better facilities and equipment using Nike money.

The Browns would've been better off waiting til Tuesday and feeling out Brian Kelly, in my opinion.

I can't believe the number of people on the Bengals message board ready to dump Dalton and Gresham. I agree that Dalton was a little inaccurate this year, mostly with overthrows, but I still feel like he's a good (not great) QB at this point. Maybe I'm an idiot. Feel the same about Gresham. He's good but just hasn't turned the corner into great but both of these guys are 25 I think.

I know. I lived here when he bailed on Cincinnati.

Just watched too many of these guys profess they aren't going anywhere then all of a sudden they up and go.

But if I had to chose a Kelly that I think would be successful at the pro level, it would be Brian.

He was a former Saints offensive coordinator and is given credit for turning around the Syracuse program.

He's been viewed as "future NFL head coach" even before he went to Syracuse.

Doug Marrone to Buffalo, per ESPN.

And Eagles and Browns in "apparent dead heat" for Chip Kelly. I wish the Eagles would lose this race. I'm just not so sure that NFL players will respect a guy without any NFL experience telling them what to do. Totally anecdotally, my perception is that the "college guys" who succeed in the NFL actually have some NFL experience in their background: Harbaugh, Carroll, etc.

You just described Pittsburgh...after a regular season loss. Actually, every regular season loss. Wild swings of emotion. Either fire everyone, or keep them all, because they're the best ever.

As an Eagles fan who cares a little bit less about football than he did thanks the past two passionless seasons, I wouldn't mind Chip Kelly. I don't think he'll be very good in the NFL or that his system will work in the NFL but I'm in the mood for some excitement.

Smith has been one of the best RTs in the game. Letting him go would prove the Bengals aren't willing to spend to win. The top free agent resignings are Smith, Johnson and Jones. The rest aren't important, but losing any of those three would mean the Bengals have to draft to replace rather than to improve.

do you mean pacman jones? I think Hawkins looked good... as long as no one wants to pay him, and Malaluga is worth keeping if afordable.
