Anyone Here Use Police Scanners?

My grandmother just got A Uniden Bearcat BC345CRS. She gave it to me and asked me to program it. WHAT THE HELL IS THIS THING?

I thought I was on the right path by going here RadioReference.com - Scanner Frequencies and Radio Frequency Reference, and looking up the frequencies for my area but the machine is only letting me put 6 digits in when each frequency is at least 7 digits. I'm effing lost.

I had one so long ago that they still had crystals. (No, I'm not exaggerating)

I can't vouch for the accuracy of this but from radioshack.com

Question: How do I enter a 7-digit frequency when the scanner only takes 6 digits?
Answer: You will need to round off the last digit.

note: Increasingly, police frequencies are encrypted & cannot be picked up by civilian scanners. Not sure whether that list you mentioned is pointing those out or not.

I think I figured it out, not sure how exactly. My grandmothers died and she's bought 3 in the past month and returned them all because they "get too many channels". I was just gonna get her A used one on ebay like the her old one (had it 20+ years) but hopefully I got this one figured out.

What is she using it for? To make sure the coast is clear for her drug deals?

There are some good android and apple apps that will let you listen to scanners. Two good ones are scanner radio and scanner 5-0. You can pick up local channels and others, like chicago and LA, etc. Also, stuff in other countries.
