gauging interest on my game concept
I want to float this out there before I actually put myself on GM list, so if there are enough people that are interested and willing, I will add myself to the small game list and get my ruleset finalized, so if this idea is something you would be interested in playing please post so in this thread...note that this is not a game signup thread
how many times has someone been lynched because they "are not acting the way they usually do"? how many people have gotten lynched using the logic that "if Lathum is alive on day 2, he must be a wolf"? if you have ever been one of those people, you understand how ridiculously frustrating it is to invest yourself in a game, only to be killed by your teammates without benefit of any actual evidence, simply because they have no one better to kil. well here is your chance to get away from the stigma that is attached to your screen name....(and the gender confusion)!! Saldana brings you - -Werewolf, the Double Blind Edition!! in order to play Werewolf, the Double Blind Edition, you must be willing to give the GM and one other player your FOFC password the werewolf game will actually be pretty simple, no insane mechanics, no action points, or bidding on services...just straight up wolves trying to eat villagers and villagers trying to kill wolves the spin is that, when you sign up to play, you will send your FOFC password to the GM, and during Night 0, the GM will give each player someone elses log in information...for the duration of that game, you will play under the guise of a different player. there will be a value to keeping your true identity hidden, so Olierage, HULK SMASH, vilegar, and even the avoidance of the shift key that is permeating this post, would need to be avoided. lots of people get by (or get lynched) based on their reputations (see me in the Werewolf Draft game, or the fact that Hoops has only been lynched as a villager once)...this game throws away those preconceived ideas about all of us, and lets us prove our werewolf abilities in an unbiased arena and when the game is over, you can change your board password |

I could be talked into it. Certainly creates options for people to "re-create" themselves =)

Hmmm, sounds interesting. I'd consider it, but depends on when it would be done. Starting in mid August, no more werewolf for me.

you know I would do it but I don't get the password concept.
Why can't I just create my own alias and register under it for the game? |

This is what I was wondering. If the names are the point, then the gm could assign the usernames - Lathum2, st.cronin2, etc. |

I am against providing private information such as passwords and/or phone numbers.

I thought that might be a better option as well. But if not, we can always change our passwords to something just for the life of the game and then change them back after the game is over. That way people won't have to have your 'real' password. |

I can see this being a feature re-used, so maybe have Barkeep sign up 20 or so aliases for use in multiple games?

This is a really good idea. BK sign up 1-30 Player X (X being the number) with simple passwords, then when a new GM assigns the aliases to players via PM, the player must change the password to his player to something he only knows, and send that password to the GM, too, so the GM can change it back if the player goes AWOL or forgets to switch the password back after the game. It would require some cooperation, but I think the benefit of trying something like this outweighs that. We could even do it with every game, not just sal's, although I guess we wouldn't be breaking any post records then with the forum's "new" status.

I just think the concept of playing and not knowing the "characters" would be awesome. We have all kind of adopted personas and certain things/traits we are known for - that is why people like Lathum, Hoops, AlanT, etc...get the heat they do as always playing a certain way. Maybe I'll get SeaLion into this game - that would certainly make his head explode!!!!
I showed him the ruleset (all 13 pages of it) for the Spawn game and his eyes about popped out of his head. He is now convinced I'm crazy... |

This idea certainly is one that could be reused as the idea has been floated by me in the past, and I know of at least one upcoming GM who wishes to do something similar. We have official OK for this and I indicated this to saldana via PM this morning. My guess will be that he'll want to do this and I will be happy to help facilitate it. There are obvious limitations with these identities, the most obvious being that we should only use them in this forum, but otherwise generic WW accounts are certainly feasible at this point.

That's a good idea, but I would advise more discrimination between user names then Player1, Player2, etc... I think if you did that people would get who said what mixed up quite a bit.
I would suggest something along the lines of Apple, Banana, Cupcake, Doughnut, Eclair, Frenchfry, etc... Or something like that with athlete names, locations, whatever. Last edited by Danny : 07-12-2008 at 07:00 PM. |

We could use athletes for people on teams we don't like. It seems all of the athletes who get names after them on here end up in some kind of trouble.

I suggest the names of Large cities around the world.
Paris, new York, Berlin, London, moscow, tokyo, Rome etc etc. easy to delineate in conversation, can be swapped around to new players every time a new game comes out. |

And it should be easy enough to come up with 30 unique cities, can anyone say..."Atlas"?

We could go with some FOFC history in the screen names. Think of it: HM, Kevin, GroundCat, a variety of Wigs, jdmagic, etc... all in one WW game, just think of the possibilities. Maybe even add some non-WW players in there for fun as well... QuickSand, Jeebs, BarnieLou, JohnG, ...
Of course this could also lead to us all being boxed. |

for those that asked, the answer to the question about aliases is: i asked about this a long time ago, and skydog never answered me, then i asked barkeep to ask him, and he either didnt get an anser, or was told no...the password swap was the only thing i could think of as a workaround, but since we now have alias creation authorization, that would absolutey be my first choice.

I'm the guy that was/is looking to use this in a future game. For "Apocalypse 2" when you pick your superhero/villain you will be signing on as them for the duration of the game.
Obviously I think it is a neat concept and I'll be excited about the possibility of playing with a name that is not "hoopsguy". Not that I have the best/worst rep, but there are consequences associated with a WW track record. |

well, under my game idea, there will be multiple winning conditions that can only be met by either remaining anonymous until the end, or by correctly figuring out who other people are, so it will be to everyones advantage to disguise themselves. |
