FOFC Diplomacy

Using the extremely scientific method of pulling names out of a hat, I have assigned everyone a country and we are ready to begin.

Turkey - CastleRock
Russia - TargetPractice6
France - Skydog
Germany - Warhammer
England - Celeval
Austria/Hungary - PackerFanatic
Italy - Tredwel

I will be sending out an e-mail to everyone shortly. Contact each other however you prefer. I will provide an e-mail address for each player, and of course we have PMs here.

Since pre-game planning, espicially over e-mail, can take some time, we're going to go ahead and take a week for the first turn. That should give everyone enough time to plan out initial alliances, and for the newbies to see what its all about.

FIRST ORDERS DUE MONDAY, AUGUST 22nd, 3pm EST

EDIT: The official site and game map are now up.

Noobs can *win* at this game. The mechanics of battle really aren't that difficult. Good luck.

Spring 1901 Moves

HEADLINES
-- FRANCE AND GERMANY TUSSLE OVER BURGUNDY
-- ENGLISH CHANNEL REMAINS VACANT
-- BLACK SEA DOES NOT
-- BALKAN STATES PREPARE FOR MAJOR BATTLE
-- FRANCE MOVES ON IBERIAN PENINSULA, OCCUPIES SPAIN

We had one set of orders bounced in Spring of 1901. France and Germany tried to move armies into Burgundy from Paris and Munich, respectively. All other orders succeed. Of note, Russia occupies the Black Sea, while Russia, Turkey, Austria-Hungary and potentially Italy align themselves to fight over the four key Balkan supply centers. France and England appear to have maximized their ability to branch out by agreeing to leave the English Channel as a neutral zone, allowing France to take both Iberian supply centers easily, while England can fully pressure Scandanavia.

Great to see everyone get all their orders in!!

Spring 1901 movement map can be found: http://www.angband.org/~radii/dip/fofc/s1901m-o.html

The current game map going into Fall 1901:
http://www.angband.org/~radii/dip/fofc/f1901m-o.html

EDIT: Spelling.

Burgondy is without a doubt French and will be taken as soon as possible. Where will we build our Maginot line in the 30s if we don't have Burgondy?

Alrighty. Austria seems awfully trusting of Italy. I'm not sure if that faith is warranted, especially with the way the Venice Army held. The temptation to stab might be too much, even this early in the game. Sorry if I am going to make those negotiations difficult between you guys. Taking Trieste away will deprive Austria of a second build (assuming they take Greece in the Fall). Of course, Army Budapest could make this bounce, but they might have visions of taking Rumania.

Turkey also must have Russia completely on their side, else they could be in a real pinch in short order. A Russian/Austrian alliance, that somehow managed to keep Italy in check, could put Turkey under quickly. Best hope for Turkey is for Italy to go after Austria and somehow keep Russia from taking a center from them next turn.

Speaking as an observer(which I will do as long as I don't become privy to alliance discussion whether by accident or on purpose, if that happens I'll keep my mouth shut)... I wonder about the Black Sea and if there is a Turkish/Russian alliance or if there was an agreement to DMZ the Black Sea and Russia went against it.

I also wonder what caused a bounce in Burgundy, whether that was dumb luck or if one of those two powers found out that the other had a trick up their sleeve.

England/France is always great to watch, who dives into the Enlgish Channel first

FALL 1901 Moves

http://www.angband.org/~radii/dip/fofc/index.html (updated, it was cached for me from Monday still, you might have to refresh the main page and the Fall 1901 page to get the orders/moves to show up).

Headlines
--RUSSIA, GERMANY CALL IT A DRAW IN THE BATTLE FOR SWEDEN
--ITALIANS INVADE AFRICA, CLAIM TUNIS FOR HOMELAND.
--FRANCE COMPLETES CONQUEST OF IBERIAN PENINSULA
--AUSTRIA TAKES GREECE, RUSSIA GAINS CONTROL OF RUMANIA
--ENGLISH ARMY LANDS IN MAINLAND EUROPE, CONTROLS BELGIUM

Our only bounce this turn is in Sweden, between Germany and Russia. The Balkans are efficiently gobbled up, leaving Sweden as the only unowned supply center in the game.

We have no retreats today so we move directly to the build phase for tomorrow.

As far as Turkey is concerned, that should be in the works!

Losing Black Sea is not too good for Turkey. Without some slick diplomacy, their days could be numbered.

I can't wait to see how Spring 1902 plays out. Major alliances should become obvious everywhere on the map. The only truly interesting thing,I think, from the build phase, is where Russia chose to put its one new army. A sign of non-agression? Placement anywhere but Moscow would have likely showed what Russia's immediate plans are.

That could be quite an understatement.

Spring 1902 Movement Complete

--GERMAN ARMY DISLODGED FROM RUHR THANKS TO FRANCO-ENGLISH ALLIANCE
--ENGLISH SUPPORT ALLOWS RUSSIA TO OVERTAKE SWEDEN
--RUSSIA MOVES TOWARDS WESTERN EUROPE, SUPPORTS TURKISH HOLDINGS IN BULGARIA
--ITALIANS THWARTED IN MOVE TO DOMINATE SOUTHEASTERN WATERWAYS
--AUTRIA INEXPLICABLY VACATES GREECE, MOVES NAVAL RESOURCES TO ALBANIA

There appears to be a major convergance towards Germany, and one must wonder if the Germans have any friends at all.

No changes occur this turn in the Balkan supply centers, though there may now be a huge opening in greece for someone.

Germany's only retreat option is into Kiel, though Germany is allowed to choose to disband the unit instead, which would allow a fleet to be built next year assuming Germany doesn't lose any supply centers. Germany has until 3pm Thursday to issue the retreat order(though I will process it as soon as I see it and get the updated map out.

Yeah, I think I would rather go out to a juggernaut than a F/E.

I think it is long term suicide for England to aid Russia. France I can understand, Russia no.

Note to self, never take the center position when other people know others better than they know you...

To some degree, my allegiances were up in the air. What tipped the scales in favor of the direction I've chosen was the decision to bounce Russia in Sweden, combined with England getting two builds in '01. An F/G against a 5-center England holds very little hope for advancing when germany has to deal with a fight with Russia. I'm usually more of a pragmatist than anything else.
