It was interesting to see France and England obviously working together but at the same time bouncing each other in the English Channel.

Actually, that can work very well. England could have been stopped from getting 5 builds had you not suggested the Burgundy bump. I had been planning going to Ruhr, still should have done it in hindsight.

Germany could have survived a fight with Russia, I was pondering moving to the Baltic, and even had I not moved there, I was still in a position to fend off Russia. Germany was not in bad shape until everyone moved in. Russia is the big enemy of Germany and England. England could have VERY easily moved to St. Pete, and had they done so, Russia would have been declawed. England SHOULD have made the move anyway seeing the Turkey and Russia cooperation.

As I said before, I should have volunteered for one of the side powers, not a central power. Oh well.

I told you I had no intention of attacking Germany, and I wouldn't have had you not messed things up in Sweden. If you don't want to work with anybody then nobody is going to work with you.

I assumed that, and I've seen that strategy used often before where england/france agree just to bounce each other there for some time. It does make life easier for some time.

Fall 1902 Movement

--ENGLISH ARMY CONVOY FROM BELGIUM LANDS IN DENMARK. RUSSIAN SUPPORT CRUSHES GERMAN FLEET, GERMANS RETREAT
--FRENCH OCCUPY BELGIUM AS ENGLISH LEAVE
--FRANCE, ITALY, AUSTRIA PRESS NORTHWARD
--STANDOFF CONTINUES IN BALKANS

Current Game Map: http://www.angband.org/~radii/dip/fofc/index.html

We have one retreat. Germany loses a supply center and must retreat from Denmark. German fleet may retreat to Baltic Sea, Kiel, or Skagerrak, or may disband. If it retreats Germany will have to choose a unit to disband in the build phase.

France and Russia each gain one supply center. England, Italy, Austria/Hungary, and Turkey hold steady with no gains or losses.

Yeah, I'm not going to say too much, but I cannot believe the lack of communication going on in this game. Regardless of whether or not you are going to work with someone, you should still talk in Diplomacy. It's just not happening in this game.

I am pretty much dead with no hope of surviving at this point. I am just absolutely positively amazed at how SkyDog is playing the board. I would have loved to have taken him out early, but no one was willing to talk. Just amazing.

Yep, that's also what killed the first FOFC Diplo attempt. Lack of communication.

It wouldn't be any fun if everyone was quiet. The beauty of the game is when you and an ally are about to eliminate a power, but that weakened power keeps talking to you until they finally convince you to stab your ally. I really love those moments. That is when you find out who the real players are.

a quick note... this has been delayed until Thursday at 3pm at the request of a number of the players. I would always rather see a delay than see people send in orders w/o finishing negotiations, or some country not have any orders at all.

Spring 1903 Movement

--GERMANY TAKES BELGIUM, FRENCH FORCED TO RETREAT
--FRENCH NAVY LANDS ON ENGLISH MAINLAND, BUT FOR HOW LONG?
--AUSTRAIN FLEET SECURES GREECE
--RUSSIA PRESENTS STRONG DEFENSE AGAINST AUSTRIAN/ITALIAN ALLIANCE

A lot of standoffs this turn, espicially in the southeastern portion of the map, Austria, Turkey, Italy, and Russia is about to get extremely interesting, while England/France/Germany and possibly Russia started to get interesting in the last couple of turns and the positioning and conflict in the western part of the map is continuing to ramp up.

Game Map: http://www.angband.org/~radii/dip/fofc/index.html

We have one retreat, France must retreat to Picardy or disband. I will process that order as soon as I receive it.

Fall 1903 Orders will be due Tuesday at 3pm.

FALL 1903

--TURKEY CONTROLS SOUTHEASTERN SEAS, DRIVES ITALY OUT OF IONIAN
--GERMANY HOLDS BELGIUM, GAINS STRENGTH DURING THE WINTER
--FRANCE VACATES LIVERPOOL
--RUSSIA STRENGHTENS DEFENSES, FORCES AUSTRIAN ARMY OUT OF GALACIA

Game Map is updated: http://www.angband.org/~radii/dip/fofc/index.html

FALL Retreat orders due next.

Austrian Army in Galacia will retreat to Vienna(if they chose to disband their only build option would be... an army in Vienna, so there is no point offering this option).

Italy, however, has a decision to make:

Italy: Fleet Ionian Sea can retreat to Adriatic Sea or Albania or Apulia or Naples

Or that fleet may disband, allowing Italy to build something else in the Winter if they choose.

Italy has until Thursday to make this decision, though sooner would be nice

After Italy's decision is made and announced, France will have to remove one unit, while Germany gets a build, which must be in Berlin, and may be either an army or a fleet.

Oops, I never posted here on the retreat!

Italy chose to retreat to Naples, while Austria retreated to Vienna.

And then the build orders:

France disbands its unit in the Irish Sea
Germany builds an Army in Berlin

I will update the game map shortly. Spring orders for 1904 will be due Tuesday at 3pm.

SPRING 1904 MOVEMENT

--AUSTRIAN RADIO FAILURE ALLOWS TURKEY TO TAKE OVER GREECE, AUSTRIAN ARMY ROUTED
--FRENCH ARMY RECLAIMS BELGIUM FROM GERMANS, GERMAN UNIT DISLODGED
--FRENCH AND ENGLISH NAVIES MAKE CONCERTED PUSH TO THE SOUTH

This one is a pretty exciting turn. Austria unfortunately sent in a couple of invalid support orders, causing most of his moves to simply be holds(the 'radio failure' mentioned above). A couple of supply centers change hands in Greece and Belgium, while there is some major re-positioning that appears to be taking place by Italy, France and England. In order to progress, a couple of countries have now found it necessary to leave their back doors wide open to allies, the ultimate sign of trust.

Game Map is updated: http://www.angband.org/~radii/dip/fofc/index.html

NOTE: The first game map I put up I screwed up Germany's orders(if anyone happened to see that early on). If you click on the wrong place on the map when inputting orders you end up issuing a support order instead of a move. I had to roll that back and fix it. The map should now be correct.

Fall 1904

--NATIONAL HOLIDAY DECLARED IN LONDON, ENGLISH CELEBRATE SPOILS OF WAR AS THEY TAKE HOLLAND, KIEL, AND PORTUGAL DURING THE FALL MONTHS
--GERMAN ARMY DECIMATED, LOSES FOOTHOLD IN HOLLAND AND KIEL TO ENGLISH
--ITALIANS LOSE FOOTHOLD IN SOUTHERN SEAS
--FRENCH GAIN EDGE IN MEDITERRANEAN BUT GIVES UP PORTUGAL
--RUSSIA GAINS STRENGTH, ADVANCING INTO SERBIA
--AUSTRIA/HUNGARY LOSES ALL PREVIOUS GAINS

Daaaaammmmmmnnnnnn...

Only Italy and Turkey stayed static this turn in terms of supply centers(this *turn*, not this year), everyone else either gained or lost something on this turn. Turkey does hold on to Greece to earn a build.

Austria and Germany have been severely beaten back and both appear to be on their last legs.

England had one of those incredible turns where everything went perfectly.

Angband is down at the moment it appears, I'll get the site up in an alternate location momentarily.

We have 4 retreats(!!!) that will be due on Monday. Remember that each may retreat or disband, and remember to consider your build orders in that decision:

Russia: Army Galicia can retreat to Bohemia or Ukraine or Warsaw
Germany: Fleet Kiel can retreat to Helgoland Bight
Austria: Army Serbia can retreat to Budapest
Italy: Fleet Tyrrhenian Sea can retreat to Naples or Rome or Tuscany

Assuming everyone retreats instead of disbanding units, here is what builds everyone would have, and the total supply centers owned after 1904:

Austria: Removes 1 unit
England: Builds 3 units
Germany: Removes 2 units
Russia: Builds 1 unit
Turkey: Builds 1 unit

Centers

Austria: 3
England: 8
France: 5
Germany: 2
Italy: 4
Russia: 7
Turkey: 5

Actually it wasn't all that impressive, he knew what I was doing. Whether that was my fault or not, he has France by the balls and I think basically said, you help me, or you're out. I was offering to split France up with Paris and Marseilles for me, and the rest going to him in exchange for Denmark.

Can't say I blame him if SD signed on board with him. The thing that sucks, is right out of the box I was slammed by a three way, and there was nothing I could really do about it since Russia and England are so tight. That is what is really driving the game right now.
