ROB NIELSEN: ERIC LINDROS 2.0?

When Rob Nielsen left his home of Palm Springs as a 14 year old for the bright lights of Las Vegas, his parents thought he was just going there to play hockey for a team who had a shot to get to the next level. Rob always wanted to play in the WHL en route to a career in the NHL. So you could imagine the delight at Robs home in Palm Springs when he was drafted 2nd in the WHL Bantam Entry Draft (Behind teammate Karl Bernal) by Swift Current. Rob was finally getting to fulfil his dream of being a WHL'er. Or so we thought.

Apparently Rob's time on Las Vegas changed who he was. He became accustomed to winning. After losing in Nationals in 2006 to Team Illinois, a dispondent Rob said there was unfinished business in Las Vegas; Karl Bernal agreed. Both returned to the Outlaws for the 2007 season with the sole purpose of being National Champs. It would come down to a rematch of the 06 finals, as Las Vegas and Team Illinois battled it out again. This time Nielsen and Bernal would edge out Colton Mayes and Kevin Thomas, two other highly touted 91's 4-2, off of a Nielsen hat trick. Rob had won his National title, and now all that was left was joining Swift Bridge in the WHL. Or so we thought.

As Rob experienced success, Swift Bridge floundered, finishing last in their divison again, and experiencing a drop in attendance. When Nielsen heard the team was losing, he said it was no big deal, he'd turn that around. But when he heard people weren't showing up to see the team play, well that was too much. Nielsen became incensed, saying he could never play in a piss poor market like Swift Current, and began demanding a trade. American teams knew his unrest, but USHL team's decided he wasn't worth a pick because they couldn't see him playing. And while the USHL may not have beckoned, the NAHL did, as Nielsen was selected 3rd overall in the NAHL Draft by Texarkana. Nielsen said he'd consider the NAHL if something didn't happen with Swift Current. Their management called it a bluff. They were oh so wrong.

On July 4th, fittingly America's Independance Day, Rob Nielsen declared he'd be playing the upcoming 2007-08 season for Texarkana of the NAHL unless Swift Bridge traded his rights to a new team. It didn't even need to be a better team; just a team people paid to see.

With the season looming, nothing is settled. As of right now Nielsen is scheduled to join his Texarkana teammates at their training camp in San Antonio this year, but anything is possible. With the way Nielsen has whined and complained you would've forgot that afterall this is just a game ..

... Oh yeah .. and that Rob Nielsen is only 16 years old.

Rob Nielsen knows damn well people want to see Rob Nielsen. Rob Nielsen goes where the people are. Now that Rob Nielsen and his best friend and teammate Karl Bernal have our National Title, Rob Nielsen is moving on to where the people want Rob Nielsen.

Greatest show in the world is what Rob Nielsen will give you. They will be singing songs and writing books about him in the years to come. The future is now. The future is Rob Nielsen.

Rob Nielsen damn fell over in his chair laughing at this.

Rob Nielsen does not deny his eating of a Yak, either.

INTERNET RUMOR

The original script of Walker, Texas Ranger called for Rob Nielsen to play Walker and for Chuck Norris to play District Attorney Alex Kayhill.

Chuck Norris's leg is made out of titanium. This is because he once tried to roundhouse Rob Nielsen, who in turn merely glared at Chuck Norris's leg, causing it to explode instantly.

While all this may be true, Rob Neilsen has never, and will never, score on Sean Treacy.

WHL PRESS RELEASE

ROB NIELSEN TRADED; REPORTS TO CAMP
Lethbridge anties up; Nielsen ecstatic

The Rob Nielsen saga has finally reached a conclusion as Lethbridge dealt star player and 3rd round draft pick (2006) of the Chicago Black Hawks Colton Yellow Horn and the rights to Marko Hunchak to Swift Current for Rob Nielsen. Rob Nielsen was said to be ecstatic about the deal, and can't wait to start playing for Lethbridge. All eyes however are on the October 23rd game between Lethbridge and Swift Current, as several Swift Current players have said they plan on welcoming Rob to the WHL themselves.

It's going to be a wild ride this year in the WHL.

2007-08 Pre-Season

MAJOR JUNIOR

Kevin Thomas: Kevin Thomas realized his dream of playing in the O by becoming the 4th overall pick of the OHL Priority Draft by the Sarnia Sting. Sarnia has a solid, but not spectacular club, thus relying on what will hopefully be an impressive rookie season by Kevin Thomas.

Mark Ritschel: Mike was another kid who realized his dream of playing in the Q, as he much like Kevin Thomas, was the 4th overall pick in his draft by the Saint Johns Sea Dogs. Ritschel is going to be a great case to watch in an offensive minded league like the Q, where many defensemen go but don't come out alive. Ritschel has the look of a kid who'll break the mold though.

Rob Nielsen: Rob is in the WHL finally, and playing for one of it's potentially top teams in the Lethbridge Hurricanes. Rob has a target on his head this year with the off-season drama he caused but he honestly doesn't seem to care. Nielsen alongside 2007 1st round pick (12th overall to LA) Brett Leffler are expected to cause quite a stir in the WHL this year.

Karl Bernal: Bernal is playing on the Regina Pats, a team who's struggled mightily in the last two seasons, but that doesn't stop Bernal from being optmistic on the upcoming season. He personally predicted that he would be have an 80 point rookie campaign and lead the Pats out of the cellar and into the WHL Playoffs. Much like Nielsen, he's wearing a target on his back, but he is expected to perform.

AMERICAN JUNIORS

Daniel Turner: Turner jumped one step closer to becoming an NCAA player when he became the 8th overall pick in the USHL Entry Draft, when he was selected by the Sioux Falls Stampede. His physical play will be much needed in the Sioux for a team who lost 49 games last year. Thanks to the power of the trade with Des Moines, the Sioux were able to make two first round picks, taking Turner on the backend. He's expected to be a steal if he plays the way he's become known for.

Ivan Carrillo: Ivan Carrillo was the #1 pick in the USHL Daft, of the Omaha Lancers. Carrillo keeps getting bigger as he's now up to 6'4", 195 lbs, and impressed everyone in the USHL last season with his extreme physical nature and ever increasing maturity. Expect more big battles as Carrillo and Turner will be battling it out all season long.

Sean Treacy: Sean Treacy may not have been taken in the USHL Draft, but it didn't stop the Bozeman Icedogs from making him the #1 pick in the NAHL Draft. Then again, Bozeman's GM just happens to be former NHL goaltender Mike Richter, who bought the franchise. So the fact he decided to take a small goalie isn't a shocker. Treacy is the man for Bozeman, and with a good season could see an NCAA schollie head his way.

Colton Mayes: Mayes was the shocker of the whole junior draft. He was bypassed in the USHL and NAHL drafts, so he signed with the Springfield Junior Pics of the Interstate Junior Hockey League. Mayes is looking to prove himself all over again to the college scouts, so he'll need a great attitude and solid work ethic to dig himself out of this rut.

HIGH SCHOOL

Owen Hunter: Nothing new to report on Owen Hunter, as he is back for his Junior year with the Govenors. He's getting near that point where colleges will be knocking on his door, so he will definetly be looking to make even more of a dent.

Dan Ertmann: Dan Ertmann is back for his Junior year at Richfield, but he's becoming impatient with the NCAA process, and is having trouble motivating himself. This could be doom for Ertmanns chances if he doesn't pick up his game, because his talent may be golden, but with no work ethic, he'll become increasingly useless to teams.

Joe Mazeika: Back for his Junior year at Catholic Central, Mazeika is looking for his 3rd straight D1 State Title, and is on perhaps his most loaded team to date, which features several other NCAA D1 perspective players. So long as Mazeika, in his second year as Captain can keep the team focused on just that, the team, then CC should have no trouble walking through the season.

Lethbridge vs Regina will be a great matchup as well. Rob Nielsen will treat his buddy to a long night of drunken debauchery when he comes to town!

And those pissant nothing wankers at Swift Current will be demolished. Rob Nielsen does not play for a team whose fans won't support them.

2007-08 Mid Season Review

MAJOR JUNIOR

Kevin Thomas: Half way through this rookie year in the O, Kevin Thomas is playing like he's 18 instead of 16. In 37 games thus far, Thomas has netted 18 goals and 32 assists. Thomas impressed so many people thus far that he was on Team OHL in the Canada/Russia challenge. Thomas added a goal in their 3-1 win over Russia. Look for a second half sure from KT to get him in the top 10 in the league in scoring.

Mike Ritschel: Ritschel, who many wondered about because of the speed of the QMJHL game, has shown no ill effects, as he's had 3 goals and 23 assists, to go along with his 154 hits and 4 won fights. Saint Johns has benefited greatly from Mikes presence as they've given up the least amount of goals in the Q. Mike was also on Team QMJHL who routed Russia 7-1.

Rob Nielsen: The self annointed Superstar, is .. well .. a superstar. Rob has proven his worth to Lethbridge by netting 41 goals and adding 33 assists, making him the top scorer in the entire WHL at this point of the season. Rob, battling a hip flexor, was named to Team WHL but won't be able to play. Still, Rob's unbeliveable play has those #10 Lethbridge Jerseys flying off the shelves.

Karl Bernal: With the hype machine Rob Nielsen making headlines, his teammate from Las Vegas Karl Bernal has been just as good for Regina, carrying them to 2nd place in their divison. Bernal has 37 goals and 23 assists, placing him 6th in the WHL, and also landing him a spot on Team WHL to take on the Russians.

AMERICAN JUNIORS

Daniel Turner: Turner has been a welcome relief to Sioux Falls, and has shown that last year was just a fluke, and not really Turners fault, as Turner has 3 goals and 20 assists to go along with 145 hits and a perfect 10 for 10 in fights. Turner has the highest league average per game in the league at 8.7 and has college scouts salavating.

Ivan Carrillo: Carrillo has been almost as good for Omaha as Turner has been for the Sioux, as Carrillo has 3 goals and 22 assists, but he's only 2 for 3 in fights and hasn't put up as many hits as Turner. Still, Omaha and Sioux Falls have really formed a rivalry since these two titans joined the league, and with a game coming up, we expect fireworks to fly.

Sean Treacy: If anyone knows of a goalie with a .500 record with better stats then Sean Treacy, do not believing them because they're liars. Treacy is 11-11-7 with 1.42 GAA and a .966 save %. Bozeman has been awful this year, leaving Treacy out to dry in every game they play. Treacy, with these kind of numbers, will have no worries come recruiting time.

Colton Mayes: Playing for Springfield, Mayes has shown he's a man amongst boys, with 18 goals and 34 assists in 30 games. Mayes is giving everyone who passed him over .. Which is actually everyone the comfort of knowing they utterly fucked up, and Mayes is going to keep rubbing their noses in it.

HIGH SCHOOL

Owen Hunter: Owen Hunter needs to move now. Half way through the season he's netted just an asanine 70 goals and 24 assists, and he still has aprox 30 games to go. Govenor is going to run away with their state title, and Hunter is the catalyst of their assault. Chances are he'll stay out East but every team in America is scouting him.

Dan Ertmann: Dan Ertmann is back to his old form. 30 games played, 41 goals, 15 assists. His numbers pale in comparison to Hunters, but Ertmann has been equally dominate, just he's playing better competition, or so many pundits think. Ertmanns love of the game seems to have come back but it still wanes. We'll see what happens as the year progresses.

Joe Mazeika: 5 goals, 24 assists, 9.00 rating a game. He keeps on rolling, and won't be slowing down anytime soon. Colleges are calling, where will he go? Only time will tell. The only thing thats for certain is that as long as he's playing for CC, they'll keep on winning and Joe will keep on producing.

USHL PRESS RELEASE

DANIEL TURNER VS IVAN CARRILLO
Bench Clearing Brawl Undercard

When Lancers winger Trevor Patrick ran Sioux Falls goalie Brad Dries in the 3rd period of what was a chippy game already, we knew it was the straw that broke the camels back. What Trevor Patrick didn't realize was that Daniel Turner was on the ice. The next twenty or so seconds Patrick would love to forget, if he can even remember them, as Turner pummeled him. The refs gave them 5 minutes, Dries was okay, everything was supposed to be okay. Supposed to is the key.

When Daniel Turner got back on the ice, he wanted to make a dent, so he took a run at Lancer D Eric Goulet, who also happens to be Ivan Carrillo's partner. Goulet went down, and Carrillo went after Turner. The two titans battled in what some fans say was as good a fight as Probert vs McSorley. It was a battle that went over a minute, that left both guys with bloody noses and black eyes. Daniel Turner won this round, as he ended the fight with a haymaking left that dropped a weak kneed Carrillo. Still, it wasn't enough for Sioux Falls, who wanted to show Omaha they meant business.

The benches ended up clearing, and finally, after 5 minutes of fighting, order was restored thanks in part to some Sioux Falls security. The game finished out without incident but the tension was still in the air.

Both Turner and Carrillo were suspended for a game a piece, but both, barring injury will be playing in three weeks, when Sioux Falls visits Omaha. Everyone heard their was tension between Turner and Carrillo when they were playing for the Barons and Golden Wolves respectivley, but it's finally come to a head, and it's safe to say a rivalry has been born.

I love it!!! I have to be almost perfect in my fighting career, as it seems like I'm always kicking the crap out of anyone. Bring the whole team on next time, I'll take them all down, then proceed to score on the next shift! Gotta love the rivalry!

Nielsen gets all the hype, but I'm carrying a whole team on my back. I can do it all...score, pass, play physical. I don't mind, though, as long Team WHL can beat the Russians. I don't much care for Russians anymore, after my dad was killed by a knife-wielding gang of Russian pre-teens while hunting for chinchillas.

2007-08 Year End Review

MAJOR JUNIOR

Kevin Thomas: Kevin Thomas started his OHL career off on the right foot, finishing 2nd in OHL Rookie of the Year balloting after a season that consisted of 33 goals and 59 assists. Thomas is expected to be a top 3 point getter next year in the O. Thomas strong play lead Sarnia to the playoffs, but they didn't make it out of the first round.

2007-08 stats: 68 GP, 33 G, 59 A, 92 PT, + 43 [Regular Season]
2007-08 stats: 6 GP, 5 G, 5 A, 10 PT, + 4

Mike Ritschel: Mike Ritschel answered all the doubters that questioned whether his physical play could translate to the Q. Mike offensivley continued to impress with 4 goals and 44 assists, and he packed a wollop with over 300 hits. Mike lead St. Johns to the QMJHL Semis where they lost to eventual champions Lewiston. Ritschel also picked up quite a bit of hardware, winning the QMJHL's Rookie of the Year, Defensemen of the Year and 1st team all QMJHL.

2007-08 stats: 67 GP, 4 G, 44 A, 48 PT, + 30 [Regular Season]
2007-08 stats: 17 GP, 2 G, 13 A, 15 PT, + 26 [Playoffs]

Rob Nielsen: The Rob Nielsen experience started off with a bang. In his 4th game he set a WHL Record with 6 assists in a game, and he never looked back, netting 54 goals and adding 57 assists, making him the leagues 4th leading scorer. Nielsen was runner up for WHL Rookie of the Year and finished third in the league in goals scored. Nielsens great play lead Lethbridge to the WHL Conference Finals. Along the way they beat Karl Bernal and Regina in a 7 game series that saw Nielsen score an epic game winning goal with under 2 minutes left. The rivalry between the two has just begun.

2007-08 stats: 68 GP, 54 G, 57 A, 111 PT, + 58 [Regular Season]
2007-08 stats: 18 GP, 15 G, 13 A, 28 PT, + 19 [Playoffs]

Karl Bernal: He went under the radar for the first half of the year, and then, he was the man. Bernal was the WHL Scoring Champion with 64 goals and 65 assists, and he lead the Pats to the playoffs, where they lost to Rob Nielsen and Lethbridge (See Above). Bernal won the WHL Rookie of the Year and Scoring Titles and is expected to contend with Rob Nielsen as the scoring leader next year, in what will be his last season before he's drafted. Expect fireworks.

2007-08 stats: 72 GP, 64 G, 65 A, 129 PT, + 60 [Regular Season]
2007-08 stats: 12 GP, 15 G, 12 A, 27 PT, + 17 [Playoffs]

AMERICAN JUNIORS

Daniel Turner: Daniel Turner enjoyed a great season in the USHL notching 8 goals and 47 helpers for Sioux Falls. Turner has become the premier recruit according to the scouting services, and is currently looking at Wisconsin and Boston College. Still, he has another year to make up his mind, so anything can happen.

2007-08 stats: 50 GP, 8 G, 47 A, 55 PT, + 61

Ivan Carrillo: After the brawl, Carrillo and Turner battled hard but without incident the rest of the year. Still many people say nothing is finished between these two, and expect more battles for years to come. With that said, Ivan Carrillo had 5 goals and 35 assists this year, and after the Turner debacle went 8 for 8 in fights, reprising his tough guy image. Presently Maine and New Hampshire top the list of schools fighting for Carrillos services, but there's still time to decie.

2007-08 stats: 48 GP, 5 G, 35 A, + 35

Sean Treacy: If Sean Treacy ever gets a team in front of him who scored 3 goals a game, they could go undefeated. Treacy had a pedistrian 23-20-10 record, but a Super Hero like 1.43 GAA and a .964 save %. Treacy has become a hot topic amongst colleges, with Maine and Dartmouth heading his potential suitors.

2007-08 stats: 53 GP, 23-20-10, 1.43 GAA, .964 save %

Colton Mayes: Colton Mayes ran through the Imperial League with 40 goals and 59 assists, but right now is only getting looked at by DIII schools, like Amherst and Wisconsin-River. Mayes has another year to make things happen and hope for something better to come along, but it's all questionable.

2007-08 stats: 50 GP, 40 G, 59 A, 99 PT, + 24

HIGH SCHOOL

Owen Hunter: Owen Hunter dominated everyone. That perfectly sums up his 117 goals and 49 assists this season, as the Govenors rolled to another State title. Hunters amazing flare has attracted the interest from several schools, but right now it looks like an interstate battle between Michigan and Michigan State for Hunters committment for the 2009-10 season.

2007-08 stats: 60 GP, 117 G, 49 A, 166 PT, + 99
2006-07 stats: 60 GP, 84 G, 38 A, 122 PT, + 24
2005-06 stats: 60 GP, 56 G, 52 A, 108 PT, - 4

Dan Ertmann: Another year, another dominating season for Dan Ertmann, as he posted 79 goals and 33 assists, and swam in letters from NCAA schools. Presently Harvard and New Hampshire headline Ertmanns potential suitors, but as with all our players, he still has another year before anythings confirmed.

2007-08 stats: 60 GP, 79 G, 33 A, 112 PT, + 60
2006-07 stats: 60 GP, 69 G, 37 A, 106 PT, + 53
2005-06 stats: 60 GP, 76 G, 34 A, 110 PT, + 10

Joe Mazeika: Mazeika was Mazeika as CC claimed State title #3 during the Mazeika reign. Joe had 15 goals and 52 assists and was named Mr. Hockey of Michigan as a Junior, the first time ever for such a feat. Presently Joe is being recruited by Michigan and Harvard, but time will tell where he laces em' up next year.

2007-08 stats: 60 GP, 15 G, 52 A, 67 PT, + 81
2006-07 stats: 60 GP, 14 G, 51 A, 65 PT, + 68
2005-06 stats: 60 GP, 14 G, 68 A, 82 PT, + 80

Rob Nielsen would like to extend his congratulations to his buddy Karl for winning the Rookie of the Year. Beers are on me.

Rob Nielsen however, would like to also take a moment to gloat, as he led his team to the finals.

Nope. Unfortunatley none of you made it but I am expecting that to change this season.

We could end up rivals - I'm apparently being recruited by Dartmouth and Maine.

2008-09 Pre-Season Report

MAJOR JUNIOR

Mike Ritschel: Mike is back at Saint Johns and is ready to build on his amazing rookie season, while also raising his NHL Draft stock. Ritschel is the anchor for St. Johns and the best player in the Q according to most scouts, so he's expected to put up career numbers this year.

Kevin Thomas: Thomas is expected to be top 10 in the OHL in scoring this year, and will be leading Sarnia to what is expected to be a top 3 OHL finish. Expect more big numbers for Thomas as he works to be a top 10 NHL Draft Pick.

Rob Nielsen: The Rob Nielsen Experience was informed his petition for the 2009 NHL Draft was denied and he must play another year in the WHL before he can be drafted. He is of course incredibly furious with the ruling and has promised to show everyone how much they're losing by keeping him out of action.

Karl Bernal: Bernal will be eligible for this years draft, and has promised everyone he'll be leading the WHL in scoring again this year. Only one person is doubting him, and that's former teammate Rob Nielsen, who has promised the world he will take the WHL Scoring Title and not only win the WHL Championship, but the Memorial Cup as well.

NCAA

Owen Hunter: Owen Hunter shocked the world by graduating early and enrolling at Dartmouth, where he will be spending the upcoming season. Dartmouth was considered a darkhorse in the running for Hunter, so his committment sent shockwaves throughout the East Coast. Hunter is another kid eligible in this years NHL Draft.

Dan Ertmann: Dan Ertmann also shocked the college hockey world by committing to MSU-Mankato. Ertmann, like Hunter, enrolled early and was promised immediate icetime for MSU-Mankato, so he jumped at the offer. Ertmann is also eligible for this seasons upcoming draft.

AMERICAN JUNIORS

Daniel Turner: Daniel Turner is still at Sioux Falls in the USHL and is still looking at Wisconsin and Boston College for next season. Turner is eligible for this years NHL Draft, but many expect him to be a lower pick for now, but with a good year, you just never know.

Ivan Carrillo: Ivan Carrillo, also eligible for the draft, is back at Omaha and is ready to make a name for himself, and also get his revenge on Daniel Turner. Maine and New Hampshire continue to lead the pack for the colleges all looking to land Carrillo.

Sean Treacy: Still at 16 years old, Treacy like Nielsen will be sitting out this draft, but he'll be in Bozeman playing for Mike Richter, attempting to get into one of the top NCAA teams. Maine is still looking long and hard at Treacy, but Qunnipac has also joined the fray. But as we saw with both Hunter and Ertmann, anything can still happen.

Colton Mayes: Mayes is back in Springfield and is eligible for this years draft but he isn't expecting to be taken, unless it's in the last round. Mayes continues to draw interest from DIII teams, such as Bethel and Lawerence, but he has his fingers crossed he might be able to land a DI schollie still.

HIGH SCHOOL

Joe Mazeika: Looking for his 4th State Title at CC, Mazeika is still looking at Harvard or Maine and might be eligible for next seasons draft if he can get the proper petition in and authorized. Mazeika is now a man amongst boys in high school, and is expected to repeat as Michigans Mr. Hockey.

To be honest, your initial ratings were as gooas theres. Your potential was good too, but for whatever reason some of Mayes basic ratings won't go up sadly.
