So here is the situation... I have FM2013 sitting unplayed because I couldn't walk away from my 2012 Crystal Palace side...and FM2014 is now on sale for $12.

Now I'm looking to start a new team in a new edition of the game, so should I dive into FM2013 or just get the upgrade?

If you play FM Classic it is much better. No three league max, no player limit.

I'm not sure if this was removed or not. I used to love in the older versions of the game where it had the green and red arrows next to each stat so you could see how a player's skills were trending. I can't seem to find that anywhere in the new versions of the game. Anyone know if there's a place to show that or make it visible?

That's still there. You access it through the training window for each player.

Just found one of my favorite names for a newgen:

Carlos Centurión

I almost want to sign him for the name alone.

picked it up as part of the Steam Summer sale and after not even touching FM2013, I decided to start a career with it. Very impressed with how it looks and feels, this game has evolved so much...

Started unemployed and passed a good number of jobs. The manager of my beloved Luton Town got in trouble, lost his job but they didn't replace him right away and despite my telling them I was really interested in the job, they ended up keeping the replacement manager.

A month later, the job at QPR came open and that's where I will start my career, in March 2014. Lots of simming has been done, will kinda give the world a life of its own before I start digging in.

Marc or someone else, do we know why the American Developmental League is hardcoded as the 2nd division in the US? It's not a huge deal when trying to make a somewhat accurate league structure for the US, but it is an annoyance.

It's pretty amazing given how good and realistic FM is that they still haven't squashed the bug that means nobody ever misses in a shoot out. I've never seen less than 8-7 with one guy missing I don't think in 400+ hours of playing

That and all the crossbars really stand out as sore thumbs when I think of the last 5-6 versions of the game and both seem like they would be really minor tweaks to make

It was the FM Classic stuff that sealed the deal for buying 14. I had a lot of fun with 2006. Back when all we had were dots, and it was all ....well there seemed to be fewer things to deal with. I'll be trying FM Classic in the upcoming weeks.

FM Classic loses me right off the hop because I can't use fake players. I always use fake players in my sim sports and I don't understand why Classic omits that option.

The book, "Football Manager Stole My LIfe" just arrived in my mailbox. I am really looking forward to reading it!

I'll read it as I play my latest dynasty to restore Sporting Lisbon's prominence in Portugal after it was relegated to the Secunda Liga....

Damn. Missed the sale. I had tried buying it yesterday morning for $12.50 on steampowered.com at work and it kept giving me an error. Oh well, there's always next year.

For FM classic, people should just download CM 01/02 and use the data updates. Not perfect, but its definitely a simpler time.

I love and enjoy FMC, but this is definitely an option I'd like.

Another option I'd like would be the ability to add a player or two to the database (even via some sort of restricted wizard, so you can't "see" the database, if that's necessary).

I know you can purchase "Get your son into football", but the results are kind of random. I used to enjoy creating each of my sons into the database with world-class PA, just to see what they'd do (since I always play starting in the lower leagues, they're never on my team anyway).

I'd definitely pay money for the latter option.

In the past it was a separate (free) download from the Steam "tools" library or something like that.

I'm not in front of Steam right now to say for sure.

I'm not in front of Steam either, but I think I saw it as an additional charge, $5.95 or something.

The base FM Editor (aka the one where you edit the DB before you start a game) is free.

The in-game editor is the one that costs money, though there's a free, less polished one available as well.

It's late in 2021 and we have been playing solid football all year. This has been the best season that Larne have managed to put together. A combination of youngsters developing and an attacking front line benefited by a 433 formation have vaulted us toward the top of the league. We've won the Antrim County Shield and the League Cup already this year, but it hasn't impressed the board.

Linfield, those devils, are also playing top drawer stuff. We have been chasing them down and with 8 games to play had reeled them in to second. Linfield, as has been well documented here, have just killed us for years, but this year has been different.

We just went on the road and dismantled them 6-0 to jump them into first with 7 games to play. Take that! Larne have clearly been the best in the Dankse Premier with only 3 losses and a +43 goal differential. I only hope we can hold and and complete the task. Linfield had won 6 straight. We outshot them 19-2.

And surprise! We will play Linfield in the Northern Irish Cup Semi-Final. I think it'll be the 34th time we've played them now. A good 10 times more than any other team.

Do you mean besides using the little menu on the player's page (in the attributes section) that will highlight important attributes for each role?

I know a couple versions ago (may be even more than a couple) there was kind of a dummies or beginners guide that broke out each position. I just started tinkering around with the game over the weekend and will have to check out the little menu you mentioned. Thanks,

Marc Vaughan's guide from 2008 is still pretty good as an overview, look at page 11 for the info you're talking about: http://mrdaniels.files.wordpress.com...s_and_tips.pdf

This site is also pretty decent: Roles & Duties | Football Manager 2014 Guide

If you look at a player, under the Overview/Attributes tab there is a filter in the top right corner called "Highlight Attributes for Roll" that will highlight the important attributes for every position.

dang, I've been away from this game for so long, forgot how addictive it can be. Just managed my first two games at QPR and I'm hooked back in, but overwhelmed quite a bit, so much to look at!

Q #1 of a million: There are no reserve teams in England anymore?

I see most of my unwanted players are listed with the U21 squad, even though many are like 34 or 35...

However, there is a key difference in that there are a significant age limitations as to who can play in the reserves league, which didn't use to be the case in FM as far as I remember.

As with most everything in FM I believe this is true to real life.

Here's my current frustration. Last season I added 1 new player to my team. I had 4 leave, but I had too many on the roster anyway and only 1 received playing time and that was only 3(4). Yet despite that it's like I'm starting over with my tactics. The same players running the same tactics should have some sort of major headstart I would think.

Yeah, I get the same thing. Field a small number of new players, and all of a sudden your tactical knowledge just plummets. Rather annoying.
