I kinda agree with Gruden that that is a pretty cheap call as it was...verging on uncatchable (maybe), no matter which side it is called for.

That being said, the rules are the rules and everyone knows them and has to play by the same ones.

There was ZERO offensive PI on Hernandez on that call. That's disgraceful.

He didn't look that badly hurt, so yeah it's curious.

Dennard is playing really well though.

Offense needs to do something here - they've been shut down since the 3 TD drives.

New England Patriots cornerback Aqib Talib suffered a hip injury late in the second quarter of Monday night's game against the Houston Texans and is questionable to return to the game, the team announced.

Right. And recovered outside of the endzone, so it's not dead at that point when recovered by an offensive player?

Gruden's had a chubby all night over the "SEC LINEBACKER CORPS OF THE PATRIOTS!!!!!!!"

Talk about tiring. It's like someone gave him that one fact and that's all he can think to say.

And that's the 2nd time at least he's talked about how Beli loves versatile DBs.

Can we just fast forward to the inevitable NE vs. Denver AFC title game? I guess the good news is Houston has to actually play its last three games versus coasting against Indy in week 17 due to having home field advantage through out. You kind of have to wonder if Houston held back in case they meet during the playoffs. I just don't think a 11-1 team gets smoked 42-14 when they are interested regardless if they Pats are involved or not.

It really comes down to Denver vs NE in the AFC and NYG, GB, and San Fran in the NFC. The #1 seeds in both conferences are going to be one and done. If GB goes to Atlanta in Round 2 it'll be 2010 all over again. Houston isn't beating Brady or Manning in the playoffs.

I don't think you hold back there. Even if you do, no way that results in an ass whooping. They had a bad day while Pats were damn near perfect. One is not as good as it looked and the other isn't as bad. I'm looking forward to the rematch.

Only the fumbling player can recover and advance it on 4th down or in the last 2 minutes. I think it's also illegal for an offensive player to intentionally bat it forward (which wasn't the case here), but I've never seen that called.

We did get the 2 huge fumble luck plays (Lloyd TD and Hernandez recovery before the 1st TD), and had at least 1 TD drive extended due to a questionable call, so I agree the margin looks bigger than the difference between the teams, but the Pats weren't close to perfect... like Brady said they left a lot of points out there in the 2nd/3rd quarters.

I don't know any stats on it, but I don't think you do either (since I don't think you're right about it being better at least 99 times out of 100). Usually, offenses are pretty bad at tackling, so there's a good chance for a game-changing play there -- even if it's not necessarily the best option in terms of expected value, the reward probably outweighs the risk.

I agree with DT when the player catches it in the back of the end zone or needs a second or two to get his momentum turned around, or goes to the ground and gets back up. I have no problem with McCourty's decision to run it out last night - he caught it basically at the goal line, and while his momentum was carrying him sideways he was at pretty close to full speed. (Plus, he's the primary Kick Returner, so that probably adds a little expected value.)

I think nearly everything bounce and timing of things went the Patriots way last night. They were also the much better team. Schaub threw 0 TDs. You won't win many games with that stat line.

Paul Tagliabue affirmed the findings of Roger Goodell in the NFL's investigation of the New Orleans Saints' bounty program but vacated all discipline issued to the players who were punished, league spokesman Greg Aiello announced on Twitter.

Tagliabue, in ruling on the players' appeal, decided that Goodell's findings "could certainly justify the issuance of fines. However, this entire case has been contaminated by the coaches and others in the Saints' organization."

What I mean is that the league wants this to go away. So they issued an opinion that will end the litigation by the only entity with the incentive/power/etc. to litigate.

It means when the Patriots were caught with a pay-for-performance scheme, the NFL only fined the team $25,000 and there was no discipline for the players. (Same thing with the Packers). So the much harsher penalties on the Saints organization remains, the penalties on the players are forfeit.

The Packers incident was allegedly in 1996. When was the Pats?

There was clearly an effort to put a stop to this when the NFL sent around that memo to teams saying so during last season. I thought the Saints punishment was because they were still employing it (allegedly) after that.

The Packers and Patriots incidents referenced in Tagliabue's report were in 2007 and 2008. The Saints players key violations were in 2009.
