The Ladder - 2020

The preseason is here! Time for redshirts, custom OOC schedules, set up recruiting boards, etc. Please let me know who you'd like me to try to add to your OOC schedule. Remember that I can't schedule a team that is in your conference.

Couldn't get any truly elite opponents for you OOC. The good news is you have #2 Alabama in Week 1.

Alabama right off the bat, I am very excited for this. Lots of new starters to break in on my side of things, and even though he will again be splitting snaps (at least early on), I anticipate QB Chris Frederick to be a much bigger part of our offense this year. Excited to unleash RB (and former punter) Jim Fry as well. He has learned a lot in his time waiting for his opportunity, and I think we can produce 2 1000 yard backs this season with him and Collins in the backfield. WR Atkins will also be a huge contributor, his speed is incredible and his hands have slowly caught up to that in his time here.

Will be interesting to see which of my top 2 QBs becomes the replacement for Raymond Bell. I think they will alternate quarters until one becomes an obvious choice over the other. Right now, I somewhat favor the sophomore over the junior.

We cruised in week 1, but I was not terribly pleased with the defense. We threw the ball pretty well. Adjusting to life without a superstar TE is going to be interesting, but Danny Bain seemed like he would be up to the task so there isn't too much of a drop off after our stud monster beast TE Brian Davis left us this past season.

Hey guys just a quick heads up.

A while (march/april) back I was a hold up a bunch while my Godfather/mentor/uncle was very ill. At one point they had brought hospice in and the family had gathered to pay their last respects etc. Well inexplicably he made a dramatic tun and things were really pointing in the right direction.

He was dismissed from the hospital and we had placed him in an intermediate term rehab facility where he had regained his ability to walk and transfer himself from bed to wheelchair and was making great progress. We had a meeting scheduled for Tuesday with the medical team to discuss end game strategies as it related to him moving back home and out of treatment.

Well last night he passed. Alone. And without any spectacular event. Simply ate dinner and laid down to rest around 7pm and they couldnt wake him for his meds at 9pm. Only 59.

So the next few days for me are...unknown right now.

I know Ill be home tonight and if my mind is right ill try to get both leagues up to date.

Very sorry to hear of your loss, CU. At least he got to enjoy a bit of a rebound, and got to go peacefully. But 59 is way too young to go.

Don't worry about these leagues, unless you want a distraction.

Thanks for all the support guys.
Talk about getting kicked while down.

Last night at the visitation we had some ...family drama. Not all that unexpected.

Then on the way home I get pulled over and detained for nearly an hour. Apparently someone in a black Tahoe robbed a store. Never mind we were in a Blue Suburban...but whatever and a family of 4 dressed in suits and dresses. Oh and I forgot the subject was black and we aren't. Anyway that was resolved and the officer was as polite enough during the process I suppose. Then we get released and...Apparently we ran over a chunk of metal when we pulled off the road for the cop. So I got to change a flat tire. On the side of the road, in the dark, in dress pants. My son held the cell phone flash light and we made do and were on our way in just a touch under 20 minutes. The cop pulled out and drove by during this and never offered to stop, help shine his headlights for us to work by anything...but the spare had air and we knew how to do it so I guess we were blessed in that regard.

Anyway. Finally got home around 1.
Just knocked out recruiting here. About to head back to the funeral home/church for the service.

Thanks guys. Just got back in from the service.
It was a very touching service done very well.

A tad awkward because my entire (very) extended family are (very) devout Catholics and I am...well I am... religiously lazy. Havent been to any church in years despite probably classifying myself as a believer. It was a Catholic service complete with mass and a collective gasp (im not exaggerating) was heard when I didnt walk up for communion. I'm the black sheep but I'm comfortable in my black fur.

But other than the scorching (102F) heat at the graveside it was a nice day to re-connect with lots of folks I hadnt seen in far too long.

Enough BS let's play some football and forget.

We struggled hard against Oregon but finally managed to wear them down late and come away with a 44-28 win. Our offense barely cracked 400 yards I think, if that. I don't know if it was their defense being hot or our offense being cold, but things weren't easy at all.

We had a very frustrating debut. I thought Gilmore was starting off his Heisman campaign in grand style as we took a 21-0 lead before the 1st half of the 1st quarter was over. However, he got hurt in the pocket and was knocked out of the game before getting to make any more plays. Davis had a surprisingly huge amount of bad throws and threw a few bad picks. With 20 seconds left, we were only up 21-17 but then Davis found Stewart for an electrifying TD reception that went over 80 yards. We took a 28-17 lead and we were ready for big things from Stewart in the 2nd half...

But, then Stewart went down on the 1st play of the 2nd half and our starting HB would not play (for reasons I don't understand.) We had to use our 3rd and 4th string backs and our offense struggled for a bit and they closed the gap.

Then, the game became truly strange. Suddenly, neither offense could be stopped. We exchanged TD after TD. I've never seen a CPU offense play so well against us. They got an offside kick and made it a 56-51 game late on a quick TD.

Fortunately, we got the next onside kick and marched it down the field for the final score of 63-51. Bizarre game. Good news is that Gilmore and Stewart are both back next week. Hopefully, one of them can have a huge game to stay in the Heisman race.

We came out of the gate a little slow, but then proceeded to whip Stanford. It was over by the half.

Ok, game is done. Sorry it took so long, my oldest graduated from High School this weekend and I traveled back to Buffalo to be there for it.

We barely pulled off the win against #14 UCLA. Our young talented QB kicked ass but he fumbled twice and threw an INT.

I have to shore up our defense.

Indiana manhandled UCLA today. Held them to 40 yards or so in the first half. Love our kickoff guy - he hasn't allowed a kickoff return this season.
